Kologne, Shield of protection

I purchased a brand new, unsealed bottle of this from eBay with quite a saving so my thoughts are coming from that starting point. This was actually a pleasant surprise, firstly because the performance is better than expected. It is light but longevity was better than expected with some noticeable projection when sprayed on my tshirt. Although it’s far from a beast, it’s not as weak as some ratings on this page would suggest! Although, I’d agree that performance should be better at this price point. As for the scent. Well I think some of the reviews below capture this fairly well. It’s a traditional cologne style fragrance that isn’t trying to be groundbreaking but does have a certain quality about it. I’d describe it as a tart, citrus green fragrance. There’s a sharpness in the opening with a slight floral undertone. I can’t say I particularly pick up on any mint but I do detect a strong presence of neroli (the clean metallic type as opposed to the sweet floral neroli) and there’s definitely a greeness to it. There’s a touch of woods in the base but I wouldn’t say that’s it’s overly woody. At the time of writing I can see that someone has rated this similar to Nio. It’s been a long time since I smelled that fragrance but from memory, I would say this is in the same ballpark. Personally, it smells high quality to me but it isn’t unique and you only get 50ml, even if that’s in a lovely bottle. It is what it is and it’s not trying to be anything else so approach it with that in mind and you may not be so disappointed like others before. Ultimately, I guess we all want different things from this hobby we love. For some it’s value, others quality or novelty. It’s probably overpriced and not unique enough for most and therefore unnecessary but I really don’t regret my purchase, especially at the price I paid. I’ve always liked my cologne style fragrances and this will serve me very well for the summer months ahead. However, I’d agree with most that although it’s lovely, it isn’t ‘special’ enough to command full retail price.

First I'll say this smells nothing like Histories De Parfum 1828 and maybe ever so slightly (in the first minutes) like Paco Rabbane Genius Me. Genius Me is MUCH more synthetic. I own them both. As for Kilian Kologne, I really like it. It's got an amazing effervescent sparkle of fizzy orange and bergamot in the opening before a big dose of petigrain kicks in. After that, the neroli and rosemary arrive and steal the show from the citruses. The drydown is super clean classic mens high end cologne. It's almost like an Italian cologne but this feels more astute, and slightly less leisurely. I picture sparkling white tiles. Soapy clean vibes. This would be a great scent for the office. Longevity is about average to slightly better than average. Scent 8.1/10 Performance 5.5/10

I didn't like this fragrance at first. I still kind of don't. It smells good but not amazing. But pure smell should not be what fragrance is about. Also, Shield of protection sounds stupid and naïve. Don't just smell this from your wrist and then decide: don't judge a book by its cover. Put this fragrance on and go about your day. That's where Shield of protection shines. This fragrance, like many others, isn't meant to be just smelled. Shield of protection is meant to be experienced. Whenever I wear this scent, I feel comfortable, confident, and happy. I feel like I can do anything when wearing Shield of protection. I guess the name does fit after all.

A higher quality version of Artisan- John Varvatos. It opens up bright, sparkling, herbal and green. Might be slightly harsh for some that don't enjoy sharp citrus scents. After a few minutes it dries down and mandarin starts showing up with some floral aspects. Not as soapy as Artisan, but it's there. Unisex but on the masculine side of things. Performance is mediocre. 3-5 hours of skin performance we with good sillage. If you can get it for cheap, I will recommend this you check it out.

If you’re into scents like Bleu De Chanel, Aqua Di Gio etc etc, it’s in that genre in regards of fragrances. It smells fantastic, the mandarin and rosemary play off of each other wonderfully and the cedar which I assume is ISO-E SUPER hangs out in the background. This a mass appealing fragrance from Kilian that is for sure a winner but the price for what this fragrance is makes it not worth it.

I love a freshie admittedly, but I absolutely love this. Very sceptical blind buy, it’s fresh, slightly sweet and I totally get a sweet/vegetal type sap accord. I cannot stop sniffing my arm when wearing this. Sits closer to the skin but good longevity on me.

A great & unique unisex freshy. I like to wear it alone or layers nicely with fruity or floral - like one of my Jo Malone fragrances. Opening is aromatic, which lasts about two hours, and the. dries down to a light fresh musk.

Never heard of this before (it was in the "Fresh" Kilian discovery set). Absolutely to DIE for herbaly citrus dream. I'm living my best island summer Mediterranean fantasy with this one!

Third of the four Fresh Citrus fragrances from my discovery set and so far this is the one that projects the best and is liked best by my family. Kologne Shield of Protection was the fragrance I was looking forward to the most after Moonlight in Heaven, and I must say this one didn't disappoint either. It opens with a strong citrus wall, though unlike something like Versace's Eros Energy, Kologne blasts you with a very refined and natural, woody, slightly earthy citrus scent. Once it dries down the citrus remains (though this may be because citrus chemicals adhere extremely well to my skin, a problem I went over in my Virgin Island Water review) but it becomes a "green sandalwood" scent. Sandalwood isn't part of this fragrance at all, which is why I find it odd that all the flowers and plants from the middle and base notes blend to make a smell very close to sandalwood. In a sense I can see the argument being made of Kologne being a linear scent, but simplicity isn't necessarily a bad thing and Kologne is an extremely good fragrance in my opinion. As I alluded to earlier, Kologne is the best projecting scent between it, Vodka on the Rocks and Bamboo Harmony. Kologne projects much more strongly, being perceived from farther than arms' reach like the other two, but not strong enough to have someone sitting across the room from you smelling it. I'd say it's a middle point between moderate and strong sillage from the site's scale. In terms of longevity, I can still smell it on my skin clearly 6 hours after spraying, but not as strongly as I could Bamboo Harmony. Considering this is a citrus scent with most other notes being plants and flowers, this too performs surprisingly well. Despite it being a fresh scent I wouldn't recommend overspraying this as it's quite dense and you'll smell yourself a lot even spraying lightly (I only did two sprays on my neck and once per forearm and shoulder), and it would probably be very asphyxiating in high summer heat.

So, I finally smelt this today. I am on the fence. Rather slightly disappointed, but when this has time to develop it becomes something beautiful. It starts with a VERY fresh lemon/mandarin smell. My nose goes lemon; and it’s like smelling the peel. At first, it’s underwhelming. It’s like “really? This is what they did?” But when it’s settled I started getting whiffs of it... “wow this is beautiful!” It envelops into something floral and has this sweet undertone. I don’t really know what the notes are per se, but I’d be satisfied with a travel sized of this for sure. Initial impression: 5/10 Once it’s settled: 8/10

Man, if they could just get the opening to last on this it would be a real banger! Unfortunately, the zesty and sharp freshness of the citrus dissipates rather quickly and it becomes a soapy, sweet orange scent that slightly radiates off the skin and reminds me of some kind of scented lotion. The opening leans masculine, but the dry down is very unisex. After a few hours the sweetness fades away and you’re left with a simplistic clean and soapy scent that you have to bring your nose close to in order to smell. Pleasant, but too weak on my skin to be worth the price.

Passed by the By Kilian shop in Paris. I had a bad opinion on the brand, having tested some best sellers. I always found them too boozy, too sweet, too annoying. I tested yesterday Kologne, Bamboo Harmony, A moonlight heaven, Playing with the devil and was pleasantly surprised. Kologne is super fresh, classy yet not too mature, and a very traditional cologne kind of scent. Problem is the performance is bad for an EDP, too bad. Too expensive for this. 7/10

When I first sprayed this I knew it smelled familiar, but I couldnt quite put my finger on it. Looked on here, and sure enough, it was LV Imagination that I was smelling. They are different enough that I can tell them apart, especially in the immediate opening, but they have enough similarities that owning both would be redundant. If I had to choose based on scent I would choose LV. If based on price, I would choose Killian.

I got my hands on a decant pre-release. Straight forward, basic. It smells great, citrusy and fresh but nothing unique or over the top to scream my name for a full bottle. I do enjoy quality and this smells clean and professional but also relaxed. Overall 7/10. Clean and well done By Kilian but not unique enough for me to seek a bottle.

For me it’s too herbal green. After an hour it was much nicer, less herbal and more sweet citrus. Got to admit, I’m bought! I got four hrs on skin and over twelve hrs on clothing performance.

7/10 Agrumé elégant clean masculin, polyvalent, mais rien d'extraordinaire ni de particulièrement original. Bonne fragrance, sillage moyen mais superbe tenue de plus de 12 heures.

I think they rebranded the Prelude to Love from the first series. Smells amazing for sure

Deeply disappointing release but an understandable one. They had to fill the void of a cologne-type fresh fragrance in their lineup and this release serves that exact purpose, almost to a fault since it smells as plain as white toast. It opens with lots and lots of green accords with mint at the forefront. I was actually excited by the opening as I hardly smelled any citrus notes; sadly, my excitement did not last very long as Kologne quickly dissipated into a painfully minimalistic duet of mint and bitter orange. There's no particular woodiness, juiciness, or even earthiness here. Now I'm not going to tell you "hurr durr why spend $300 on a cologne fragrance when you can buy the same thing for $50"... you're free to spend your money in anyway you please; HOWEVER, I believe that if I'm to pay niche prices for an otherwise generic DNA, I expected a truly unique twist or a clear level of quality you wouldn't find anywhere else. If you want bold greeneess and woodiness, buy Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Forte; If you want citrus executed to perfection, buy Creed Pure White Cologne; If you want beautiful delicate floral accords, buy Frederic Malle Cologne Indelebile; if it's MINT you want, get either Amouage Beach Hut Man or Kilian's very own Love The Way You Taste. Kologne doesn't really have anything remarkable about it, it's just "there". I'm very much looking forward to the release of Single Malt in the Liquors collection, which was confirmed by Kilian himself at a meeting with North American reps last year. Boozy fragrances and gourmands are where Kilian is at it's true element.

This fragrance is overpriced for what you get. It opens up smelling like a rainy day with a lot of green notes and I can appreciate what it’s trying to do but the dry down is just cologne to me. The more fragrances I’ve tried the more I realized there are other fragrances that do this style better and are easier to wear. I wouldn’t buy this again and honestly I probably shouldn’t have bought it in the first place. Get Creed Virgin Island Water instead.

Smells really nice. Fresh, natural citrus with some aromatics. But idk if it’s worth the price considering what it is. I’ll probably use up my sample but won’t get a full bottle EDIT: After a few weeks of trying this again it smells too much like public bathroom air freshener so it’s a no for me

Smells like a shampoo I had 10 years ago like H&S or something the smell of it came immediately, 100% not worth the price for me

this is a thicker, denser aromatic citrus. feels kind of condensed and dark mixed with standard cologne woody citrus notes.

Smells like a light version or reformulated Diptyque Philkosykos EDT. Smooth and simple.

I’ve been trying this one four times now, the opening is bug spray, the dry down is “sweaty, haven’t washed for a week”. Kologne, Shield of repulsion By Kilian. (I really think my skin has an issue with Kilian, at best they smel “meh” or very feminine on me. But most of them are horrible on my skin.)

I didnt hate it, but I get a strong floor cleaning product smell from it. The opening is nice but it is short lived. Not my cup of tea.

Tried it in store.. couldn't smell it after 10 minutes. But those first 10 minutes were glorious. Overpriced by far.

Boring. Not cool old style overpriced, I prefer ARTISAN PURE . Clone of artisan pure.

This fragrance is insanely overpriced and smells like seaweed 🤢🤮

I’ve been sniffing this for the last 48 hours and have been waivering on buying a bottle. It’s really beautifully done. Very green, with an almost vegetal dryness (which I last got with philisykos) that suggests not sap to me but the leaves or even the bark). The neroli is very well rounded and doesn’t have that astringency that you often get with neroli fragrances. The Drydown is woody and warm with still that hint of freshness, with an almost TF white suede creamy musk faintness lurking pleasantly in the background. Edit: was back in the store with my wife. I sniffed it again. She liked the Aventus cologne, so I had one forearm with the creed, the other with the Killian cologne. Waited two hours. And we bought the Killian. The Drydown is just so nice. I get why they went with the daft but accurate shield of protection. This isn’t fresh-fresh like my acqua di Parma bergamot, arancia or c.l.u.b but it’s a very nice cologne which I think will work nicely at a summer dinner, drinks on terrace. The price point is, well, high end, but as a treat from my wife I’m glad I have it in my collection.

So far best citrus piney scent, but to me this is eather game changing, eather a particular personal hit? Because I don't like the pine note in most fragrances, own a few as well, not my jam. So I guess the way byKilian handles this part of the spectrum? The fresh, the citrus, the blue? Yes supremely classy. Very much fresh, also get a similarity to Moonlight in Heaven after the opening. Three to four hours performer, will definitely try out a few overspray sessions to see how it goes since, I've heard it's not natural oils, do not get the synthetic feel on this, at all. Don't trust, sample yourself, no, it's doesn't smell like a cheap shower gel, the opening isn't bug spray, doesn't smell like laundry detergent. Get a joyful standing at the heaven gates type opening, after less than half hour settles into sheer elegant freshness. It's a full treat for those few hours, like it gets you and gets you. Maybe citruses work well with my pH, at the moment, idk, but it's a party.

In this comment of mine, I do not want to offend Cecile Becker master perfumer who create this. I just want to say that I tried this perfume and my first association is Autan mosquito spray. This is a slightly more fragrant version of the same. I don't know if the perfume industry is playing with us, but you can clearly recognize the scents as scents, if they replace cheap deodorant from 90s, aftershave lotion, deo stick... or cheap eau de toilette from 80s which now cost over 100 euros. Miracles happen and people buy everything that is offered to them. It is important that it is a name and that it is a brand. This is Autan mosquito spray. Shield of protection suits him very well... ------------------ A less brutal comment The smell is not bad, I just took a shower and I can still smell it on my neck. The smell is like some kind of body cream / lotion after showering. Smell : 6/10 But it reminds me too much of Autan .. so I simply don't want to be authoritative for this.

See what the 2°C, 35°F wet drizzle does to that distinctive major cool upper tier green citrus. Stays solid, brings just a bit of woods out and slowly starts to seize it all with sheer byKilian aromatics. I would say it's not a freshie due to the fact that it misses that slight extra sweet, fresh out the shower, clean, soapy, it's pretty much out of the mainstream. Medium strong and a relaxed safe oversprayer. Initial reaction quite few years ago and quite for a while was that it's too acute, too bitter green forest, can't really fathom, sampling. After finally got the bottle, few wears in suddenly got the straight up hit with the novel, the up to date of all times, the seriously fresh elegant. Personally understand it's the reason why I go straight for the blind purchase in circumstances such as these, the way them hidden hidden dimmension gems hit? It's a movie.

I'm convinced they send stronger versions for the testers. I tried this at Bloomingdales and couldn't wait to purchase a bottle. It smelled amazing in the store. Therefore, I went back the next day excited to wear, however, I was disappointed after spraying many times on all major points of the body that help to emit and project the cologne. Honestly, I could not smell this after 30 minutes to an hour. I will be taking this back and swapping for something else. It cost $250. It has potential, as long as it stays in the bottle. Once you spray it on, the scent literally leaves and barely becomes a skin scent... Such a let down...

This is my favorite citrus fragrance hands down, dark and bright at the same time. Masculine for sure and projects decent for a citrus scent. Bought 2 for $120 each from The Cosmetics Company Store. Just got a sample of it at Douglas when pourchasing Straight to Heaven. I am jut in love with it. Musky orange. I am even able to compare it with Orange Sanguine which was my sotd. Both are veri nice and very photorealistic and natural smelling. Which one do I prefer? This one thanks to petitgrain which is really gorgeous. Would I buy it? No, because it is overpriced for a citrus cologne. But quality and smell is 10/10.

Smells like hot plants warmed under the beating rays of the sun. The neroli is really quiet in this. All I pick up is plant juice dripping out a snapped stem and citrus. I guess this is what a Eau De Cologne from this house would smell like for a day away from the family cellar in the park. It is mixed well. However lack luster after the opening, semi enjoyable, low projection and a comically inflated price tag.

Kologne is a nice new addition to Kilians freshies . It smells dense rather than airy. It has an orange soapy , rosemary smell that is somewhat addictive. It brings back happy childhood memories of mornings in Europe. I love those natural fresh out of the shower scents !! I really want a bottle ! Hard to come by , they sold out fast.

This smells fantastic, but By Kilian is smoking crack if they think a fragrance that's in the same realm as artisan pure is worth 295$ for 50ml retail, and 170-230$ for 50ml at discounters. I mean seriously? The most I would spend on this profile is 80-90 for a 50ml, and maybe 140 for 100ml. These houses must think we are suckers.

Re-imagined version of Love the way you Taste from 2018 Miami Vice collection. Top is similar, but the mid and base are totally different. Projects better & lasts longer. Way overpriced though, you can find similar eau de cologne style scents for a fraction of the cost of this. My go to is eau de narcisse bleu from Hermes.

Really nice but nothing different as there is only so much you can do with these citruses and notes, they almost smell the same Not an essential but I liked it enough to buy it but not really touched and will be selling Closest match for the is guerlain bergomotto

Super sharp cut citrus fragrance. It could be described as a little sour, green, fresh and slightly metallic/medicinal? On my skin it is long lasting and very bright citrusy. Perfect for hot summer days and nights. Definitely herbal and woody too.

Unripe zesty mandarin, very leafy and fresh. Strongly leans towards soap territory, which can be a turn-off for many. This is a definite summer scent, though for the price, ugh, do Acqua di Parma instead.

Right in the opening it is so close to Virgin Island Water, not long after that I can feel the John Varvatos artisan vibe not really artisan pure . I love it, but definitely I hate the price more.
