Pearl Oud

This thing is so good and absolutely addicting. I have to say, this is definitely one of the best rose-oud I've smelled. Having smelled ROJA's ouds, Fragrance du Bois's, Frederic Malle's, Spirit of Dubai's, MFK's, etc, I can still say this is definitely among my favourites, if not my favourite. To be honest, I have never been a fan of Kilian as I always thought they produced some sweet-mass market synthetic gourmands. I guess Musk oud (which I want to try now) and Pearl oud, their most expensive fragrances currently by far, has a reason to charge that much. Sad thing is that you don't get that fancy packaging anymore, instead, you get this cardboard boxing that feels like Nicolai packaging funnily enough. Pearl Oud is not that heavy heavy hitter oud like FM's the night. It is cleaner and less aggressive in scent profile overall. It does opens up with that typical dirty(barnyard) oud (makes me think there's real oud inside, maybe trace amounts?not sure though. The dirty opening mixed with castoreum, similar to the castoreum you find in Antaeus or Chypre Palatin (although castoreum never smells dirty to me, it just smells herbal and leathery). The barnyard opening is quickly tamed down(within 10 min) by the iris and a fresh rose in this. This is not a jammy rose at all, it is more powdery and almost pink, though not feminine. The scent then moves on to quite a clean and almost fresh smell. The overall scent profile is like a less sweet discontinued indonesian oud edt by Zegna on my skin. Unfortunately, although Zegna also smells amazing, the amberoxan base that Jacques Cavalier threw in there makes it run flat on my skin. Pearl oud also has a strong iris facet-- if sprayed on paper, you get a very clean powdery iris note, similar to the one you would find in Dior Homme Parfum (DHP). On paper, at one point, it definitely reminded me the sillage of DHP. I am aware that DHP has oud and rose in it too, but this one obviously amps that up and takes it to another level. Longevity was great, 8+ hours on my skin, which doesn't react well to a lot of the oud roses...(even oud satin mood lasts less than 8 hours on my skin), on clothing I'd imagine days... Projection is moderate, not a screamer. Very classy performance, which is surprising for this scent profile.

Utterly intoxicating scent. I found the opener poop-like and offensive the first time I smelled this, but I hung on to the card. Surprisingly, an incredible alluring sweetness emanated from the same card, lasting for days. I clung on to the same card, inhaling the fading scent in deeply. I knew I had found something special. I tested the scent for 8 months, falling deeper for the scent whilst looking for an opportunity cheaper than retail. In those months, I tested different oud-roses, all that I could find around me in Sydney (which is very limited tbh). I couldn't find something in the same genre able to compete. Fast forward to now, the bottle is finally mine. The opener is dark animalic civet, very funky and could be easily mistaken for excretion. However, I've spent enough time with it to recognise a rich, sweet undercurrent such that the opener does not bother me. I wouldn't call the sweetness jammy (like Rose d'Arabie, Argentina, OSM or VR&O) but it is lychee like and dark. The tropical sweetness of the ylang-ylang is muted, but adds to the sweet funk. The oud is dark and resinous, almost dripping, but not at all medicinal. Up close, there is a slight birch-like leather but throughout most of the ride it is imperceptible. For the first time, I was able to recognise iris as a mild powdery facet in the drydown. Gradually, the sweetness quietens, but the scent projects substantially for over four hours. The longevity leaves nothing to be desired, forming a lush scent bubble for easily over 12 hours (edit: can detect after 24 hours). The scent exudes opulence and confidence, yet I'll also wear it whenever I want to feel comfortable. This is my gold standard oud!

A great scent at what it does: smelling luxurious, expensive 🫰 and upscale. Pearl oud to me smells like how one would imagine an expensive fragrance boutique smelling. For me this is a fabulous western oud. For all the talk of animalics and the such and being an exclusive middle eastern perfume, let's be honest this is tame and decidedly western. Smell something from Ajmal's purely orient collection and see the difference. However sometimes I do actually want just a western oriental and this is the best I came across so far! It's a great blend, great mix of florals and leather and good synthetic oud. Oh I would have loved for the delicious castoreum in the opening to be more pronounced and last longer, but alas on me it's gone within the first minutes. But you are left with a great blended rose oud leather that will be universally appealing and smell like wealthy people in Monte Carlo. Is the price worth it to hunt this down? Hell no, you have a lot of good alternatives in this area. I however enjoy it. For me it is as close to perfect as you can get in the wearable western style oud category, it also has great performance and is from a brand I enjoy. So I would say it is objectively not worth the price, but fragrances are hardly ever about objectivity 😄

By Kilian Pearl Oud is perhaps the most provocative fragrance I've tried from their house--a brilliant, dirty, lovely oud-dominant fragrance that is floral but never truly sweet. A very pungent opening of black pepper and saffron dries down into a mix of roses, with the base notes of oud and (hopefully synthetic) castoreum providing the oud and leather scents throughout the entire experience. The main evolution of this is from the spicy opening to the rosy heart. Truly a powerful experience, Pearl Oud is one of the best-performing fragrances I've ever tried, as it's on the extreme of both projection and longevity. To that effect, surely this should have mainly cold weather usage, and probably for more important occasions at night as opposed to everyday wear. The main downside is--like many other oud-named fragrances from By Kilian that are also excellent, such as Incense Oud and Amber Oud--Pearl Oud too is significantly overpriced, and to an even greater extent. Its pricing of $475 for 50ml is greater than the typical oud pricing of $395 for 50ml and well above the other city boutique exclusives at $295 for 50ml. It's just a tough sell, which is a bummer, because it's such a great scent. 8 out of 10

Pearl Oud a gem formed within the shell of a pearl Rose and Iris. Pearl Oud is an homage to Doha, to its ancestral culture of the pearl and a wink to the magnificent mall where Kilian opened his first boutique in Qatar: THE PEARL. Perfumer: Christiano Provenzano. Opening: a cocktail of spices, of saffron and black pepper, powdered by iris. Heart: a rich and opulent bouquet of jasmine, turkish rose and ylang ylang. Drydown: indian oud and castoreum come together to give an intense animalistic personality to the perfume. The rose and iris smell are strong in this one but the leather and castoreum make this fragrance dirty, animalistic and give its base a unique character that surrounds itself with rose and iris. The opening is beautiful, opulent, exotic and dangerous. The black pepper and the oud make the opening very aggressive, but that aggressiveness quiets down quickly and it becomes a very classy and expensive smelling scent. Unfortunately, the longevity of this one is not a beast mode, it becomes a skin scent after 4 to 5 hours. Projection on opening is phenomenal, it definitely fills up the room and the price of it empties your bank account.

3rd time testing this, and I was compelled to get a bottle. They managed to give this one a texture of velvet and leather, and the experience is uber luxurious, classy, and classic. I watched a review that describes this as how a modeling shoot might smell, and I agree. Animalic (sweat) clothing (leather and textiles) makeup (iris) etc. The opening here is punch in the face of castoreum, and takes me to the edge of my comfort zone, but not past it. In about 20 minutes it transitions to the mid which is similar smell of Kilian Incense Oud. The rose that they used here is excellent 👌 After a couple hours, I'm left a woody, slightly floral, musky drydown that lasts and lasts, and lasts! My bottle is from when if first launched and it's super potent. Hard to describe the drydown precisely, but it smells like luxurious skin in a wealthy persons house. Smells clean and expensive. Beast mode performer Wealthy business tycoon vibe. Top Notch Rose/Oud/Saffron with interesting twists. Scent 9.5/10 Performance 9.5/10

First impression, this is the most beautiful oud I have ever smelled. Only time will change my mind or make that statement better. It's a little medicinal in a perfect way, not cloying but very strong. A little on my skin is projecting hard. Perfect balance of notes and sweetness. Niche at its finest!! Ok so I have been playing around with this fragrance for awhile now. It's amazing. We have all had our fair share of oud now. It's in everything. Rose oud is a combo that is really just over for me. But this composition somehow was able to blend the two notes tog In such a well done way that on skin I feel I just discovered the note of oud all over again. It's got a sweet undertone and a slight tinge of medicinal oud which here it works perfectly. It's masculine but still has that rose. It's very well done and I highly recommend one to pick up the kilian exclusive sample pack to get your nose on these not so common compositions . Art.

Pearl Oud is an astonishingly and surprisingly deceiving beauty; it’s one of those fragrances you catch in the air and something awakens inside of you, demanding to explore it further. Those expecting a real oud fragrance, you won’t find it here - but why would you expect that from Kilian anyway? What you’ve got with this scent is a wonderful sweet rose. This rose is the most dominant note to my nose, tempered by the soapy delicate nature of jasmine and Iris, warmed by the comforting embrace of saffron and patchouli. It doesn’t smell like oud at all to be honest, but I’m not complaining, because either way it smells damn good. I’m not sure why castoreum is listed, for those that have smelled true castoreum fragrances it seems undetectable here. It’s not animalic in the slightest. However, as someone who often struggles with rose-forward fragrances, this is an absolute delight.

I was getting a bit of buyers remorse as this was being shipped to me - mainly because I was able to secure a 100mL of Boadicea's Nemer for the same price but chose this instead. Fast forward: WOW am I ever glad I chose this. This has risen to one of my favorite ouds in my collection. No wonder that Kilian Hennessy himself has stated that this is the best oud Kilian has released. I'll take it a step further and say, after testing countless and not buying many (as I usually prefer oud attars), this may be one of the best Oud fragrances as an all-rounder by a Western fragrance house available right now. I can also see why this was an ode to their shop in Pearl Island - fitting of the affluent Middle Eastern clientele that shop there. I will cherish this and try my best to secure a backup bottle.

A beautiful addition to the oud power lineup by kilian. It smells...well, to me it doesn't have a discerning note...it smells like all the other ouds smashed together...I pick up rose and incense and some musk and then just plain oud...medicinal and roses on the top to a heart that is darker and smoker...I really like this one. When freshly applied it has a very dank animalistic rankness that is heavenly. Smell 10/10...beautiful and potent and so different to the others...more akin to an Arabian release from by kilian. Projection 8/10...room filling when wet, it dries down a bit closer Fortitude 10/10 one of their best....still smell it on my skin, faintly, after 24 hours To me a mishmash of all the other ouds that somehow finds it's own particular spot on the shelf...The best of the bunch

Kilian has a number of exceptional Ouds. Pearl Oud is not to me a beast mode fragrance. That is not what it was created for. Its initial audience for for his store in Doha. They know what real Oud is and have many top fragrances houses trying to top the others. In this competitive market Kilan doesn't do anything radical. He does the simple well her. Oud embodies the whole journey of the scent, the rose is there as a strong and loyal sidekick, (more of a Brad Pitt to Leo's Lead in Tarantino's latest). I wouldn't categorize it as dirty either. Its ingrediants are not aiming for barnyard, IMHO. Sophisticaed, Unisex, and more subtle (in a good way) than many of the seemingly endless attempts by perfumers to bottle the "strongest" Oud

So I haven't actually bought this, but every time I go into Flannels I get the chance to smell it and each time I wish I had the money to drop on it Something about this keeps luring me back in! It starts off somewhat bright, rosey and faintly leathery, which contrasts with the bright, sort of a Yin-Yang kind of relationship at the start The dry down however, oh my god! It becomes this earthy, minerals and rosey leather fragrance which would be the absolute pinnacle of well dressed, leather jacket gentleman! If you want to standout from everyone and smell and feel impressive, this would be the one for you, one day I will own this, I just have to find the right possessions to sell

The opening to me smells like lychee, a beautiful brief lychee scent which is then transformed to a controlled barnyard oudy smell in the background from the get go. It is pretty leathery thanks to saffron but everything is balanced with the floral sweet rose. I wouldn’t say it is a linear scent. This is definitely a beautiful perfume but I am a tad disappointed with the performance. The first 30 minutes it will falsely give an impression of being a beast mode perfume but after about 1 hour, it becomes a skin scent. It’s not surprising since just like all watered down Tom Ford perfumes, this house is also under Estee Lauder. Otherwise, it would have been a stellar perfume.

An amazing masterpiece with one of the best opening for Oud-Rose combo. There is a natural sweetness (not Jammy) to the Rose and an overall dark and mysterious vibe to the scent profile. As a comparison, to me, the Rose felt less sweeter and Oud less prominent than in Ombré Nomade. Further, the Oud never feels skanky. Average performance on my skin and clothes but not stellar. A must for enthusiasts and CognoScentis’ however outrageously priced for others. If you love dark, mysterious, deep and bold scents and are ready to pay for it, then this is it. Unisex with target for mature audiences. Great evening wear. Enjoy!

This is one of the best scents that by Killian truly offers. Pearl Oud smells unique and charismatic. The combination of the notes is well blended. It gives you sweet notes, but also dry notes. The oud in Pearl Oud is not strong and friendly enough to wear. You will definitely get compliments when wearing this. Is it expensive? Yes. It is. Is it worth it? If you love the scent - yes. The longevity is very long lasting and it projects a lot - one of the few Kilians that achieve that. I can't describe Pearl Oud well enough. Try to smell it yourself and you'll see if you love it.

Kilian - Pearl Oud To me this is a beautiful rose incense and synthetic musks. I don’t get any oud here. Beautiful airy and effervescent composition yet typical of Christian Provenzano’s style. Easy to love especially in the middle east to me this is reminiscent of Halfeti and Blue Sapphire not Nemer or Celestial. I would give this more but 50ml at $460 pricing is a joke at $180 I would think it’s a fair deal. For retail there many many nicer options out there which you could probably buy multiple bottles of. Scent 8.5/10 Sillage 8.5/10 Value 2/10

To my nose I get the oud and iris primarily... perhaps because iris is easy to pick out and this is clearly a real oud fragrance. The animalic side of the oud is so perfect and complimentary to the floral notes that I'm intoxicated every time I smell it. Hands down a love from me and it would be my signature frag were it not so expensive. If you want real oud done well you're going to have to pay for it... performance on this is stellar it lingers and lingers with moderate projection after 3-4 initial hours of power

Luscious Mid-East rose oud touting that rank animalic undernote typical of true Eastern ouds. Spicy, leathery, incense-y masculine-leaning exotica. Saffron, pepper & smoke waft into evolution, conjuring a vision of the anomalous pharaoh Akhenaten gliding majestically through the hypostyle halls of his Great Temple of the Aten, a stunning Nefertiti on his arm mesmerizing all who looked upon her. Come to think of it, she would have carried this scent more eloquently than he. 😉

Wealthy Oil barron vibes. Vintage is incredible, and modern is also excellent. If you are on the fence, I encourage you test this vs Boadicea Nemer. I'm talking really test it, not just smell on paper, or wear it once. Wear them each at least 3-4 times and you'll understand why the original is better than the copy. You might be challenged at first by getting punched in the face with castoreum, but give it some time to get past the learning curve.

I have tried more than a dozen niche oud-themed perfumes and to me BK Pearl Oud is the clear an unequivocal winner. Seductive, elegantly "dirty" and animalic it creates a mood of freshness and sophistication. Exemplary longevity, projection and silage make it a staple in my den. If I were to choose only one perfume for the rest of my days, it would undoubtedly be the Pearl Oud by Kilian.
