Calvin Klein

So glad this one was added to the database! My mother used to have a little round container of the Calvin Klein solid perfume. That magical red plastic doohickey was what made me fall down the rabbit hole that is perfumelove. Sadly, it's been so long that I can't remember exactly what it smelled like, other than that it was glorious and somehow different from the other perfumes on my mother's dresser -- that's a chypre for you. Not long ago, I was reading a biography of Calvin Klein that talked about the launch of this, his first fragrance. Turns out, CK was offered what would become Lauren and rejected it in favor of this scent. He ended up kicking himself because Ralph made a mint off his sloppy seconds. Such is life in the perfume world.

I am very lucky to have a bottle of this precious juice in my hands as I write this (thanks to the ebay gods!!) This is the perfume I would always have my mom spray on from the tester bottle at Marshall Fields in the late 70s' (I was too young to afford to buy it for her yet!) it may have been launched in the winter because I remember that each time we did this, my moms' winter scarf would then smell of this for weeks after! O.K. now the scent.. sniff..sniff..aahhh..This is undoubtably first and foremost all about The Rose.. which is splashed with a little bit of peach juice and then it's surrounded in a light cloud of spices and woods..Sooo Beautiful and Sophisticated...The Masterpiece in the burgandy box simply titled Calvin Klein!

I wore this when I was in grad school, in NYC, and realize now, reading the notes, that it's still my go-to scent profile: orris, carnation, rose, maybe some white flowers, oakmoss and NO vanilla or gourmand elements, ever. CK was at the lower end of what I considered the elegant ideal, but it was affordable, so I disregarded something a bit screechy about it. Stuck now in Egypt after loosing all my beloved perfume in the Sudan war, I'd love to find a bottle of CK right now, even though I probably wouldn't wear much of it in the summer heat.

This was the very first perfume I loved. I was a young teenager when I started wearing this and it made me feel grown up and classy-I loved it! It was so modern. It’s interesting to me that it has notes like rose and oakmoss that are not usually my favorites, but all together in this perfume, they’re great! This one is the only Calvin Klein fragrance I’ve ever liked, none of his others ever interested me. Unfortunately, he never was able to produce anything better than this, his very first fragrance.

THIS is rose done right in my mind. Testing a vintage original mini of cologne. The rose is soft and edged with woods and aromatics. Rose lovers you will like this one for sure. Interesting, and not too sweet or cloying. From the 70 ́s which was an interesting perfume decade. Softer than the shoulder-padded 80 ́s.

What A Distint Classic Fragrance it really stands alone.....Like it could be Lauren sister of Ralph Lauren I think also released in 1978, Some Real Excellent time wining fragrances release that year.......A truly treat of a fragrance to wear, why do a the Best always become....."Discontinued"....How Sad!

This was such an insanely beautiful creation. Of course I'm relying solely on childhood memories of how much this enchanted me, but oh my how it enchanted me.

Wow. This is a deep, green, trip. Velvet to the nose. A little like Creature, with a Boucheron feel maybe. To me this is feminine but rich.

I am surprised to see this listed. It was my college fragrance. I felt sophisticated wearing this. How long did this survive?

Perhaps the most sophisticated and nuanced of all the fragrances from Calvin Klein also happens to be its first, released in 1978, and it's the most beautiful woody rose with fruity, peachy top notes and a green floral heart. The green notes here, however, aren't necessarily sharp or cold, there is just as much velvety as its verdant: the feel of petals and closely packed moss. As it further develops, a carnation merges with the heart, lending an ever so subtle granularity to the velvet, like occasional beads embroidered in, teasing the skin. The full-figured rose lasts into the dry down, extended by an oakmoss that rivals that of the most hallowed chypres, shades of cedar, lingering whiffs of stone fruit, and a musky resonance. That this has been overlooked seems criminal; perhaps this is due to Calvin Klein's inconsistent reputation in the perfume realm. If their Obsession gets all the attention when it was really their competently done "also ran" of Must de Cartier, surely we should show some reverence for this truly original and magnificent creation.

This was the first fragrance i bought with my own money. I had a job in high school at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf at the mall. I would spend my money on men's button up rayon shirts with paisley prints, YSL lipgloss in Soleil, monogramed Calvin Klein slippers and this fragrance. I had worn Emeraude, White Shoulders, Love's Baby Soft and Chantilly, given as birthday and Christmas gifts. Finally ready for a grown up scent i found this. Everything about it felt modern and new. I wish i could smell this again to see if i love it as much now or was it just the excitement of finding something that was just mine?

Thank you for explaining this perfume to me complete with photos. This is my best friend's favorite and I have listened to her sadly reminisce. It is her birthday and I managed to sleuth down a bottle with luck and this site. I am thrilled to give it to her! I will add photos when she opens present to add to this perfume profile. I love this site and didn't know it existed.

BEST ROSE SCENT EVER. 😭 So sad it is discontinued. Have never seen it on Ebay. I saved the last few drops in the bottle but alas, the good scent has decayed. There has never been another scent to compare. I never cared for any of Calvin Klein's subsequent fragrances. Still longing for a rose scent but have not found anything I want to buy.

This was the first perfume I bought with my own money. I had the powder and perfume and I kept it for the longest time. How I wish they still sold this. In my opinion, the best Calvin Klein. Very woodsy, almost masculine yet amazingly delicious. I would love to find it again!

Very feminine floral perfectly blended;a note of comfy warmth wraps itself around the florals, ending with the smoothest trail of a fragrance reminder left behind to make anyone ask, "Hmmmm...what is the name of that gorgeous fragrance?" Absolute perfection.

Just got a decant of this. I remember this one back in the day. Who knew it was gonna become scarce as hens teeth. Smelling this takes me back to discos and I remember it mostly on men. Yummiest of ck frags. They should bring this one back for sure.
