Jockey Club EDP isn't a modern design that's a vintage wannabe - it's an authentic historical fragrance rebuilt from the ground up by Pascal Gaurin, and it's like nothing else in the current market. It has a bright bergamot opening with a hint of fresh citrus. You can detect carnation and thyme almost immediately providing a neat and clean aromatic spice. This scent is extremely structured and well balanced. The heart is the signature of this fragrance. Rose and jasmine provide a floral richness that could become too sweet, but orris root and basil hold them in check with a dry, rooted earthiness. The orris keeps this scent semi-masculine. Although rose is a critical ingredient for the flora component, don't be surprised that this isn't a rose fragrance. The drydown is where Jockey Club really shines. It settles into a soft, warm skin scent where the florals recede, and a quiet amber warmth emerges. It doesn't collapse into powder overload the way the note pyramid might suggest - it simply gets closer, more intimate, more personal with a beautiful hint of powder. Hours into the wear, what remains is clean warmth with just a hint of floral to remind you what you're wearing. What Caswell-Massey understood with the original, and the update, is fragrance is designed and created for the wearer. They have to be confident enough to pull it off. Jockey Club EDP is a complex and refined, scent that doesn't demand attention. It's designed for the gentleman wearing it. At $200 for 100 mL EDP, you're paying for a classic and elegant scent that most houses at twice the price can't match. JFK wore the original Jockey Club. This is a classic, wonderful, revision of that. It is truly magnificent. Sample it and you will understand why. It is my daily wear and one of my gold-standards!

Out of all the heritage sample kit I bought my husband Jockey Club was our favorite. This is a wonderful citrus amber rose patchouli cologne. It starts off w/ a lovely thyme, and carnation smell that really captivated my husband and I right at the start. It turns into a wonderful powdery, patchouli rose scent. This could almost lean unisex and I have to say I think I could wear this one. Spicy, floral, amber, patchouli, green, powdery, musky, woody. It has all of the accords to my nose anyway that I really love. I think Jockey Club is full bottle worthy for my husbands collection. This is such a classic scent that more men should discover. It has depth, character, is sensual yet classy. This is a great cologne for a man of confidence, warmth and sensuality. Would be a great date night scent. Edit:6/8/22 I should have mentioned this before the notes and accords as listed above for this perfume are all wrong! The website says the notes are as follows.....Bergamot, carnation, thyme, honey, rose, jasmine, orris, basil, and powdery notes. Jockey club is primarily a rose/carnation/patchouli scent w/ powdery nuances. It is not overly citrus at all like the above accord suggest. I also don't think this brand gets enough attention here. Which is sad. Many of Casswell and Massey fragrances smell a lot better than what so called Niche brands put out, not to mention that what does the word "Niche" mean anyway? Many so called "Niche" brands are owned by corporations now.

Sampling Caswell-Massey Jockey Club EDP, a fresh spicy men’s scent from this now-revived classic American house, with a simple note breakdown of bergamot, honeyed rose, basil, and orris root. I certainly get the rose, along with a greenish woody powdery background, and it has a bit of an oriental-meets-chypre vibe to it, a less-woody-and-spicy-than-usual men’s offering from this house that makes up with some headiness and sharpness coming from rose and orris. Its opening is fairly bright but it dries down to being a bit more midway between bright and dark. I think it’s great, even if not quite as compelling as Number Six or Oaire, my two favorites so far, but I still quite like in a sort of heady, old-fashioned way that’s high-performing, interesting, and one I would consider buying a travel size of to consider further. Still, it’s probably my third favorite of the line and very strong, overall. As with most of the house’s EDP lineup, this is pried at $200/40 for 100/7.5ml, sold seemingly exclusively via the house website. There is also a Jockey Club Cologne, but this is rather the EDP. 8 out of 10

There are three bottles from three separate batches in my wardrobe: 2016- heavy on the powdery note, more florals than citrus 2017- equally heavy on the floral and citrus notes, with the powder always lurking 2014- a beautifully balanced batch and easily my favorite The florals and citrus make for a cheerful, uplifting feel; the musk keeps this scent leaning towards the ‘masculine’ side; and that heavenly, powdery note really sets this apart from today’s current scents. Admittedly an older gentleman’s scent, it dominates its niche and is a study in 19th century perfumery. Call it dated but there’s a reason it is still in production today. This scent has become my signature, as it’s such a comfort to wear. Tabac original, Lagerfeld classic, and Clubman Pinaud all provide the classic barbershop talc/powder note but none equal Jockey Club in its ‘dandy’ splendor.

For me, this is the textbook barbershop fragrance. Cannot help but think of those visits to barbershops in the old country back in the day. Amber is quite prominent, and I think I get lavender, too, but it is not listed among the notes here on Fragrantica; so, take my word with a grain of salt. Those who are sensitive about "old men" fragrances should stay clear away. This reminds me of my dad, and I am no young dude myself to begin with. So, we are talking grandpa level stuff here; which, by the way, is perfectly fine with me.
