Un Jour

This was my main go to fragrances in the 1980's until maybe 1991, and I think I'm on my third bottle. And have been for at least 25 years. I don't know what fragrance eclipsed it. I happened to pick it up this evening while looking for something else, and put it on for the first time in years. It's still got it. Lots of contrasts here. Light but long lasting, white floral but not cloying at all. Absolutely not one of those heavy handed gardenia/magnolia/tuberose/jasmine bombs that came in during the early 1990's (and nearly sent Rosequeen to the exits). Un Jour is light, with mainly the ylang-ylang and maybe some light hyacinth. Safe for work, but you know it's French. I wouldn't be writing this review if I hadn't just seen a lot of it online. That sort of surprised me; I can't remember if it was even sold in the US. But it must have been, just not many stores carried it. I know I bought at least one of my bottles in Paris. Looking at eBay right now, some of them are in the same box as the bottle I bought around maybe 1993, but I have no idea whether the juice in these bottles is the same strength and long lasting (6+ hours if sprayed on, less if dabbed on). I don't know if Charles Jourdan is even in business now. In the 1980's they made high end fetish shoes; I remember I Magnin had a pair of 4-inch black stilettos that had rhinestones marching up the heel, for at least $200. I bet hundreds of women tried those on, knowing they'd never buy them. (Gee, how would my life change if I actually wore these?) But I digress. 4-inch stilettos are hardly unusual now. Buy the Un Jour spray. This last bottle I have is not a spray, and that fact may be why I stopped wearing it. I was busier than I am now, so I'm going to try to wear this more again.

This is one of the best perfume i ever smelled. is a unique and rich garden of exquisite roses. i never smell any perfume the half of nice like this one. sorry it not come back. ¿why always excellent perfumes are stop come? if you see this one close your eyes and buy it. you will never forget my words.

I wouldn't call it fresh. It's asort of a bittersweet yet deep fragrance you can easily trace it's quality. And musk maybe. Certainly equally wonderful for a man.

an aldehydic floral with vintage peach, hyacinth, musk, sandalwood, little hint of oakmos but not bitter just balances the sweetness of the florals and fruit

Bright, warm and uncomplicated. UJ is a cheerful, feminine fragrance and easy to wear. Modest performance.

70’s style (though was first issued in 1982), has complexity of older perfumes which I much prefer to the current, flat style. Too much aldehydes and oakmoss to become my personal favourite but a beautiful, well constructed fragrance nevertheless with some sweetness and florals, mainly hyacinth w some jasmine to my nose. I could see this having been someone’s wedding fragrance in the early 80’s. Maybe Cheryl Ladd’s.

I find this one very masculine on my skin, it's not what I look for in a perfume. Will give it a second chance ,maybe in summer.The heat of the summer seems to better all perfumes on my skin. And , if it won't smooth out , I will simply combine it with some ultrasweet or ultrafeminine scent , let's see what new creation will come to life ....... Update- summer 2015. As it isn't one of my faves and after becomming sort of bored with this and that ,I grabbed this bottle and sprayed on my hair.Like it.Still little bit masculin,sort of like Sander III ,but I needed a change and it's the right time for it. I think it will be my "signature" scent for the next days.

I used to wear this one in the eighties, had a big bottle and absolutely loved it. It had massive sillage and was to me an absolutely adorable scent. I wish I knew where to buy a big bottle again. I miss it. It did also smell to me of roses, strawberry and lemon. I do not reognize the composition listed above but mine was the original one and the bottle and the box were different. The box was white, pink and red, I think, and the bottle was sort of pear shaped, with three depressions on the sides and a golden cap. Might be different from the version depicted above, I do not know.

Green, herbaceous like camomile tea with strawberries. Not the jammy sweet strawberries though, but fresh, still slightly tart strawberries on the bush.White florals are just the backdrop not the main tune. This perfume esthetic is surely not to everyone's taste nowadays, but that is precisely why I hold it in such high regard- no sickly sweetness in sight.

Like Kraxa, I also remember it as smelling of strawberries. Strawberries and lemon.
