Musk

This tiny bottle is quite a powerhouse. It is not like any other musk I have in my collection right now. I know it was formulated before the 90s, but my brain immediately read this as a " Early 90's," musk. I am wondering if someone from my college years wore it. am not picking up the soap others have, but definitely a wee bit of rose in the top. It smells like a hug and a warm bosom, I am now wondering that perhaps it is similar to a body shop musk. My best friend used to bring a suitcase back from England before they had US shops. Whatever I am experiencing, it is familiar. Right now the warm bosom is my own. I'm outside on a cold winter day and it is radiating from my chest. It is, like others have said like Jovan or other drugstore musks. It is not at all like head shop Egyptian Musks or even pricier Arabic musks. Definitely leans feminine, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying it. Especially since it is so affordable Those unfamiliar with the brand, they were established in the 1830s in NYC as a chemist.

I'm on a perfume oil binge. So I added this soapy, clean smelling scent to my collection. It's just that: like smearing yourself in an ocean of delicate soap bubbles. It reminds me of the old, hardened, unused French soap bars I would find under a bathroom sink in my parents house. Which actually sounds horrible, come to think of it. But really, what I'm getting at is that this isn't a complex wonderland of notes: it's just a simple musk. I'll use it for layering with other scents. Or when I need to venture out into the world of the great unwashed and need to feel and exude a super, high-maintenance, old world clean. Like a mix of fastidious hygiene and musty, if beautiful, glamour.

This is a simple, floral, soapy kind of musk. It's very soft and light, a true skin scent. It's definitely not an animalic or dark musk, and even though the bottle is similar to Kiehl's Musk, it does not smell anything like Kiehl's. On my skin, it barely lasts an hour or two. But it does smell pleasant. It reminds me a bit of Terri Michele Shenandoah (formerly known as Fresh Scents by Terri Breathe) -- it has that light, bright, shower-fresh quality. It would be good to wear in situations where fragrances that are strong or have a lot of sillage are not appropriate.

I got it after reading that it's Liv Tyler's favourite oil, and I was just curious what one of my favourite celebrities smelled like. I was surprised. The oil is just pure musk, nothing else. On my skin one drop was so strong and soapy that it made me feel sick. I took a shower and I could still smell it on my wrists. It is a kind of 'skin' fragrance, indeed, but I immediately associated it with older ladies scent. So, for me it's a big 'no no'. I just hope this oil miraculously smells amazing on Liv's skin...

I remember getting this in a swap about 10 years ago. I really wanted to love it and thought something was wrong with my nose but gave it many chances. It smelt like clay. A really odd smell not like the various musks that I'm aware of. Smelt very old as in dusty attic like. Also like the reviewer describes below about the old hardened soap bars. Just awful. I gave it away to a very happy swapper! It smelt divine to her. So our perceptions were opposite.
