La Rose Jacqueminot

This is the oldest perfume year-release wise that I own and I love it! Francois Coty, CEO and owner/founder of the Coty brand, created this beautiful scent in 1904. A reformulated 1980s bottle is what you can find today by authentic sellers on ebay. Starts off with at touch of citrus and green notes. The florals enter and they are sweet but strong. Other than the obvious rose, you can also detect notes of violet, lavender and a jasmine. It's mostly the rose that comes through. A full-bodied rose with stem and green leaves. It's sweetened up big time with the other floral notes around it. But rose the whole way through from start to finish. At the time in 1904 it was revolutionary because it smelled as realistic to the rose hybrid it represented as could possibly get. This may be good for layering with another floral perfume maybe a white or another softer rose perfume. It's strong as you spray it or dab it but it weakens very fast and gets into a quieter skin scent. It also does not last very long less than 2 hours. A little oily like rose oil. There is a little touch of wood at the end in the dry down. Absolutely gorgeous and worth the price if you want to smell a rose perfume from the turn of the century and want to time travel this way via a fragrance. It makes me think of roses on big hats from ladies in the 1900s i.e. the first class ladies with the flower hats on the RMS Titanic. A day time perfume to wear to tea or a nice lunch. Not as herbal or as 'flower shop' as other perfumes. It's just a very romantic and well-composed rose and violet perfume that is sweet but grown up.

I am rather amazed by this perfume. Something about it really must work with my skin chemistry, because I could still smell this on my wrist after 24 hours (and a bath during that time). I also sprayed it on my clothing, but it did not last long on the fabric. The sillage is good as well. For an hour or so, the notes were quite smoky and strong, perhaps a little bit sour since this is a vintage perfume. But it wasn't highly unpleasant. Soon, it mellowed out into a soft yet spicy rose. I think La Rose is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I bought this perfume when I heard that grand duchess Olga Romanov of Russia, the daughter of the last Tsar, used Coty's La Rose. Her sister, Tatiana, used another Coty fragrance: Jasmine de Corse. I was unable to find the jasmine perfume, but La Rose Jacqueminot I did find. And I am definitely in love with not only its history, but its scent as well.

After a very smooth transaction I received the coffret containing three 50 ml bottles of Eau de Parfum. One of them is the re-interpretation of "La Rose Jacqueminot" by Daphne Bugey, initiated by the François Coty Association. A fantastically realistic rose. I completely agree with roses44: this is an incredibly beautiful scent. As Mme Bugey had the opportunity to smell the original scent at the Osmothèque, I suppose this creation comes very close to the original. To me, who loves rose scents, this is a must. If you love scents from the past impeccably executed with all the headnotes still intact do yourself a favour and try this re-interpretation. I have bought many an old bottle giving only the shadow of a classic perfume. This is an alternative, in my opinion.

True vintages appear so rarely that when I spotted a full, circa 1960s PDT with crown cap at a reasonable price I purchased it immediately (the 1980s version is different). It is the most authentic-smelling rose fragrance I have owned. The scent is light but completely enveloping. It's got the flower, the stem, the leaves and even the soil as well, like a freshly-watered rose bush. It is also a bit boozy. Wish I could obtain it in parfum for more longevity, but am grateful for the one I found as it is indeed a treasure.

This is the most accurate rose perfume I have found. I have two small bottles (not the 1970s reissue). When you first put it on, it smells "off" but then becomes the most accurate rose perfume of all. I have about 27 rose bushes; the best smelling one is my Chapeau de Napoleon which is what this Coty Rose smells like. I'm always on the look out for another bottle of this.
