Savannah Gardens

I remember having this perfume many years ago, I can’t remember exactly what it smelt like but I have a few faint memories of it. Heavy, heady, boozey warm, cozy I would class it as a orential, great projection and very long lasting, not like the watered down rubbish perfume manufacturers produce now. I loved it! I loved the name, it made me think of sitting on a porch in Savannah, Georgia rocking on grandma”s chair whilst listening to the crickets. I know it was a winter time scent but still It made me think of Summer in Savannah. I seem to remember it smelling like Casmir by Chopard.

I came across a body lotion of this quite recently, and it smelled exquisite. Strong white floral notes mixing with spices and vanilla left a sultry, creamy and almost animalic impression on me; kind of like Ungaro pour L'Homme II, if you are familiar with that fragrance. If I didn’t know better, I would say there must be some civet in it. If the perfume counterpart is as good as the lotion I experienced, it can become a deadly “weapon of mass attraction” on the right woman.

I have the original version of this perfume and I love it. It is very ambery with deep vanilla notes. The flowers are not too floral and the vanilla is not sickenly sweet or cloying. This would also be perfect for a man to wear as it does have some masculine facets with the spice and amber. I wear it during fall and winter. My bottle is the frosted glass one with the enameled leaves on the front. I don't know how the vintage version compares to the newer one.

I used the Eau de Toilette and body spray in the 90s and loved it. So sad it's discontinued. What would be a similar scent to replace it with? (There are still some drops in my bottle and I won't throw it away...)

I always loved this powdery scent!! I worked for Crabtree and Evelyn back in 1989-90. I really got to know and love their scents.

Ahh, this takes me back! I remember buying this for someone I really liked, along with the body lotion. It really is a lovely perfume. I actually find it really quite syrupy. It's quite decadent! Just based on my memory, I think the Jasmine here is paired with other white florals, maybe Gardenia... which to me might be related to the olfactory representation of this perfume as evoking a Southern United States vibe (i.e. a garden in Savannah, Georgia). It is a little heavy and can be somewhat sweet, but it's very intoxicating. I think this is discontinued now but it was quite unique and made the wearer feel very special. Brings back happy fragrant memories!

The lotion is currently discounted and available at Marshall's. It is a slightly spicy white floral amber. Very reminiscent of vintage Estee Lauder

I used to live in Savannah Georgia and I can confirm this fragrance takes you there - almost. All they needed was touch of Spanish Moss or in the case of fragrance formulas oak moss. Oh if only they had given it some woodsy notes like oak moss! This is not bad though. It makes me think of Savannah and I wear it every time I'm in Savannah. This is a simple uncomplicated day time fragrance. It's quite strong because of the spices so the trick is to spritz once behind your ears or on your neck. This tends to smell like a floral scented shampoo but I love when that happens in perfume. The white flowers are abstract but there is definitely magnolia in this. Gardenia and jasmine is clearly there so I would say this fragrance looks like this: Top Notes: Aldehydes Magnolia Neroli Gardenia Orange Blossom Middle Notes: Jasmine Lily of the Valley Hyacinth Spicy Notes Base Notes: Amber Vanilla Neroli is not listed here but I can smell it. It's a light touch of something orange but floral so it's gotta be the oil of either orange blossom or neroli. It's fresh and there's also aldehydes. The other flowers namely hyacinth is very pretty and feminine. The fragrance feels and tastes green to me so I'm guessing there are either green notes or the greenery of the lily of the valley. It becomes powdery and soft at the end and very soothing. I can wear this all day and then go to bed with it. It's a Southern Belle fragrance. Scarlet O'Hara would love this! It's dainty but powerful like a woman who is in charge but you'd hardly imagine she would be. A Steel Magnolia. This is a fragrance I have loved for a whole year. It attracted the man who proposed to me in Savannah's Forsyth Park in front of the beautiful fountain. Thank you Crabtree & Evelyn. And if I can't find my perfect wedding perfume then I guess you're it.

I purchased this many years ago. It was a heavy, rambunctious floral. If you could imagine a southern belle in a sense with a little animalic attitude. As heavy as it was, I would blend it with a little oil from 'The Body Shop' called, 'Deep Woods musk'??, which is no longer produced. I would get so many compliments. It can stands alone with no other help, but I always gave it a push over the edge when blending it with that particular perfume oil. It's floral and spicy! If you can buy, try. Beautiful!

I, too, worked at Crabtree and Evelyn during college in the late 90's. My manager there wore this every day. It was very spicy to my nose then, but very pretty. I miss a lot of their oldie-but-goodies. Their newer scents/reformulations just are not as magical, somehow. I wish Veranda would be added to the database-I'd love to see the notes.

If C&E would start making Savannah Gardens again in the original formulation, I would literally buy every bottle I could get my hands on. Heck, I'd buy a 55 gallon drum of it! As of 2019, the closest thing I've smelled to this in a while is Gucci's The Eyes of a Tiger. Any other recommendations?
