Soliflore Wisteria

I'm really amazed. Wisteria, to my knowledge, isn't a flower you can extract the scent from in any way. Accordingly, I've never smelled a perfume that smelled like Wisteria or even at all reminiscent of it, including ones that claim it as a note. This really does smell like it. My very favorite type of wisteria is American wisteria, which is native to the US but rarer here than Chinese and Japanese wisteria, which are invasive and grow more easily. American wisteria smells the very best to me. I haven't smelled it in a while, and so I'm not sure if I think this is meant to be American or another kind. In my mind, American wisteria has an additional green aspect that I don't sense in this. This scent is all floral, like a heady, clovey, romantic springtime wisteria concentrated, but the perfume itself isn't so strong as to be overpowering. Really beautiful. Wisteria is my favorite smell and it's kind of shocking more perfumers don't try to replicate it. If you like wisteria I expect you will be very pleased with this.

Soliflore Wisteria perfume oil and Eau de Toilette are available again on the Dame Perfumery website. This is one of my favorite of the Dame Soliflores, besides the Narcissus and Gardenia. The Wisteria smells to me very much like the wisteria that blooms in a nearby park in early Spring. It's difficult for me to describe; wisteria smells multi-faceted to me, with a floral nectar and pollen with a hint of spiciness in it. Whatever it is, I find these facets represented in the Solifore Wisteria very well. I get a good moderate sillage and excellent longevity, and I don't experience that with many florals. It's really quite lovely.

This starts with straight out of the garden purple florals but then pivots to a dark incense. It's spicy! This is femme fatale stuff. And it goes into perfumey honeyedness-- like tuberose, but darker. I swear this smells like cinnamon and incense. In a few hours it's a slightly soapy dark purple floral, but still sort of incensey. It hung on pretty well all day.

Blown away by Dame Perfumery again. I don't know how he makes it smell like a hanging wisteria arbor on a cool late spring/early summer evening in NorCal, but he does. I, for one, am grateful bc when stress gets the better of me, I pull this gem out and use it like aroma therapy. Instant calm, focus and well being.

I am originally from East Texas, where, as a child and up through my late teens, I lived with my family next door to my maternal grandmother. She had quite the green thumb, and along with some spectacular roses, African violets (indoors), jonquil and paper white narcissi, and a lot of heavily fragranced honeysuckle blooming forth from very old, established vines, she also had a rather large wisteria that had been trained as a small, freestanding tree in her front yard. Along about the end of April and into May, it would be absolutely covered in mounds of purple/blue blooms. It could also be quite hot at this time of year, with the heat sometimes being visible as undulating waves in the air. Be that as it may, the heat could not stop me from standing for long periods of time right in front of, or even sitting under, this marvelous plant. The perfume that emanated from those flowers was almost like a drug. I was so drawn to it that I didn't even mind the many bees and bumblebees that also loved them and were constantly swarming about. I miss those dream - like days, being carried away to some beautiful place in my mind by that fragrance. This soliflore wisteria perfume from Jeffrey Dame, both the oil and the EDT, bring those memories rushing in. I am actually a bit amazed at how much it smells just like those blossoms - a purplish, pollen-y, slightly powdery, lightly spicy fragrance. It has good lasting power, and also develops in depth as the hours wear on. For me, this is really quite addictive.

The best wisteria I have ever smelled. Bought for my husband, who loves the stuff and grows it lavishly. Soliflore is a word that seems to imply some kind of simplicity or unidimensional aspect, but it is more of an opus in this case. It is a portrait of the smell, all of the parts showing up in a condensed and impossible timeline, an Uber real representation of the flower. It opens with the clovey-ness you smell in full glory, after the blooms hang in the sun like grapes, then dives into the stomach churning coumariney sweetness that makes you lightheaded if you stand amongst the flowers. A heavy, heady "white flower" envelops you, not gardenia, nor tuberose. The perfumed heart of the Wisteria. But it doesn't quite overwhelm. It's like a magic trick. You are just about drowning when you realize you can actually breathe underwater. You realize there is actually an oddly beany, lactonic greeness tempering the whole thing. Not like soy milk. More like eating raw green beans that are slightly overripe. And a very pleasant spicy muskiness. If you like wisteria, this is gorgeous, very vintage, and glorious. My favourite wisteria ever.

Disclaimer: I've never smelled a real Wisteria This one smells very similar to a bar soap that I used when I was very little. Such great nostalgia. Backing the smell up is a bunch of mixed white floral smells. Very beautiful.

Does this one actually exist? This and several other Soliflores listed here do not appear on DAME's website.
