Super underrated safe frag, linear clean fresh and fruity. Easy and non-invasive, perfect for a spring/summer day. I'm wearing this right now and it is super easy going, non synthetic and better projection than I expected. For the price this is a no-brainer. It won't knock your socks off, but the blend is quite remarkably well balanced and pure. The bottle is really nice to hold, and this smells WAY nicer than your average locker room scent, much less intrusive. Good for personal use on a hot sweaty day, not for dates or formal occasions. Longevity 6/10 Silage 7/10 Scent 8/10 Balance 10/10 Overall 8.5/10 the price makes this one of the best deals for a quality frag.

The absolute best fresh fragrance for under $20! I'm thoroughly satisfied with my purchase. I first smelled this on a coworker and ordered it that night. My favorite way of discovering a new fragrance is on someone else. It's out of the shower fresh, I get the zesty citrus' along with a fruity clean opening. As it gets to heart it stays fruity fresh especially with the pineapple but then the wood starts creeping in, then dominating the base. It last a good 8 hrs on my clothes with projection and silage being about 4 hrs. This fragrance will definitely stay in my collection. It does resemble Lacoste essential sport a lot. Overall I give it a solid 8/10.

let's say you go to the mall, all bored, nothing much to do and you have like 50 bucks in your wallet. but you dont have any fragrance on mind. so you decide to go to a drug store or a fragrance section of a mart. there you see this lil box...you give it a sniff...and you go like...wow not bad at all for 20 odd bucks...and its surprisingly fresh and sweet as well to wear on casual weekdays/weekends... you take it...enjoy it guilt free...coz its so cheap... thats what DB Essence is to me...lighter chrome legend with a synthetic pineapple...one of the best starter fragrances for any fragrancebro :) love it....beautiful bottle and juice color 8.5/10

This was on special for like $9 from the drug store,I decided to blind buy it even though previous David Beckham purchases were failures. So What do I get from this one...It starts off like nautica voyage, and dries down like an azzaro chrome. Not bad at all and am currently wearing it for my daily go to. Certainly not going to offend anyone with this. Is definitely one of the better celeb fragrances i have smelled. 2 sprays one on the front of the neck and one on the back of the neck and you are good to go.

Had a squirt of this one in Boots. Has a really lovely refreshing opening of citrus and violet. The dry-down stays citrussy mellow and fresh. Longevity is quite good too. Reminds me of Chrome or maybe Essential Sport. The David Beckham brand rolls out some really good quality scents by some established perfumers, unlike most other celebrities. Anyway, this is a very nice Beckham scent in a lovely bottle.

This is one of my favorites, second to Ralph Lauren Romance Silver, which is my absolute all time favorite. Gets a lot of compliments even just standing in line waiting to pay for something at the store, minding my own business and with this or RL Romance Silver, which both have certain common notes in composition of the scent.... a lot of "you smell good what is that?" 😂

I bought this blind based on the notes and I must say I'm very satisfied with the smell and performance of this fragrance,it smell very pleasing and it last a solid 6 hours,for under $15 this is the best cheapie ive purchased for the price,based on the price this is a 10 out 10 fragrance for me

This is such a good smelling fragrance, however I unfortunately get such bad migraines after smelling this on me for too long that I can't really wear this. Must be one of the sharp notes apple or citrus/grapeftruit that are causing this, such a pity. Otherwise, an awesome summer/spring buy

This is the 2nd David Beckham fragrance I've sampled (and bought)! Citrusy and woody. Its safe everyday wear fragrance. Bonus part it's easy on the wallet too. Bought 30mL bottle plus body wash for $14. 8.5/10

Back again... this stuff just makes me feel happy. Perfect for when you hop out of the shower or just want to hang out by yourself. You can spray liberally as the juice is cheap but smells great.

A little bit like lacoste essential sport, that freshness, woody, citrusy smell. Perfect for the weather, nice and clean smell. If you fonds of beckham products then this one is a must have.

Definitely one of the nicer citruses. The violet gives a lovely clean edge to the smell. The Essence is great value. An excellent and refreshing clean citrus.

This is a really good value perfume. It has a really subtle, but classy scent. If this scent was a personality, it would be the wealthy, but classy, kind guy that owns a yacht and wears a nautical watch, not a Rolex😂. This perfume is like a mixture of salty sea air and a fruity citrus smell. It does not have strong sillage, or longevity, however I think this actually attributes to the fragrance. It's not something you would wear out out night to be seductive, it something that you would wear to a more casual day event (in the summer). When people get close to you they would be able to smell it, but it would not fill up the room and be a 'look at me!' scent. It isn't a compliment seeker, but people would think to themselves 'that smells nice' when they get close to you. It would be a good choice for an event that only goes for < 5 hours, not something to apply for an all day event due to longevity. Ultimately, its just about choosing to wear it on the right occasion. And 100% really good price for the value. I've had my bottle for over 8 years and has gotten better with time.

A nice versatile fragrance. I've worn it at night and during the day and it seems to suit both. It's got a very clean scent, almost like a baby powder scent. To me there didn't seem to be much difference between top note and dry down though, it smelt exactly the same to me. I would say it's perhaps more suited to autumn/ spring weather, it's certainly not very winter-y and I think in summer you'd barely smell it. As with all of Beckham's scents the longevity and sillage is very weak but for just wearing around the house or to bed I think it's great. Also, bottle is gorgeous and perfect for ASMR videos.

I like several Beckham fragrances; they're good, pleasing fragrance offered at an affordable price - nothing wrong with this fragrance model. However, I wasn't a big fan of The Essence when I sampled it on two occasions. To me, it was like Axe meets Adidas with a touch of a Sports vibe tossed in for good measure. It's okay, but there are many other Beckham fragrances that outshine this one IMO. Longevity was around 4-hours and it projected well for the first 30-minutes before, overall, was pretty soft on my skin. Your mileage may very. Not bad but I'll stick to my other Beckham fragrances.

citric fruity fragrance..... Just like all other fragrances fragrance of this house it is good but problem of lasting and silage again says "hello we are here"....... From this house homme is the master piece... I cant notice all the notes described here....but it is more fruitier version and less citric .... No doubt it is clean scent.. Perfect for all time wearing. But I found some sporty feel in this bottle.... No compliment at all..... Not very special scent..... No need to discuss technical aspects here.. But it deserves one time buy at this price range........

I think Spartan hit the nail on the head. This is another surprisingly good fragrance from the DVB line. It is a fairly weak juice so yes you do have to reapply to enjoy that fruity-aquatic-ozonic top end but even if you don't reapply you are still treated to a very pleasant warm, aromatic-woody skin scent later on. It is almost as if the scent was designed for week days..........fresh and fruity for the daytime calming down to a relaxed and polite evening 'balm'. I just keep coming back to the DVB line of EDT's and trying another.......and another..... ☺

My wife bought this for me at the local drugstore. (I think she was tired of me experimenting with niche fragrances.) A very safe fragrance. LIGHT, too; many colognes in this spectrum tend to be overwhelming when you apply them. This sprays on very nicely, even 3 or 4 full sprays didn't choke me. A great cologne to wear when you just "wanna freshen up". Great to wear to or from the gym. Keep a bottle of this in your locker as a back-up.

A very light, sweet, pleasant cologne. I actually get some musk in this, but perhaps it's the tonka. It's basically a fresh, very light citrus, with a nice sweetness in it's base. This is also perhaps one of the most "sport" friendly colognes around. I tend to get fairly nauseated by cologne during intense exercise... but not this one! 5/10 for smell The longevity however is quite awful. It's gone after 1-2 hours. Overall Rating: 3.5/10

Great value fragrance that works especially well in springtime/summer although my opinion is that this could work in all seasons. The lavender and grapefruit notes are the ones that stick out to me. I think this is an excellent blind buy. The only downsides with this scent is that it smells cheap. Compared to a designer fragrance, The Essence feels one-dimensional and lacking in layers. 6.5/10

It's a nice fragrance, Fresh, Fruity and Clean. A bit generic, The Performance is weak but it smells so good with reasonable price. It opens up with like fresh citrusy fruity , slightly spicy and green notes in the background then dry down is green woody. This is perfect for the spring and summer. I like The Essence David Beckham EDT for Men. Rating : 7 / 10

I have a couple of Beckham fragrances and just like the others I love this scent. The dry down is a little reminiscent of Versace Man Eau Fraiche, minus the musk. Like the other Beckhams I have there are major issues with longevity. It’s easily the worst performing fragrance I own, 1-2 hours and it’s disappeared without a trace.

Nice fruity fresh scent. Lasts about 2-3 hours then *poof*. Linear, fresh, short lived. Call it a cologne? Can buy a 2oz for about same price as a chipotle burrito with guac. Like Chipotle, it's not really worth it but better than nothing. Scent 6/10 Performance 3/10 Value 6/10

A nicely done fragrance by Becks. It does not smell amazing, nor does it smell repelling, definitely one of the best ones around for that price though. nice, thats all there's to say. Longetivity is not so bad, round 4~6 hours for me, yet projection not so well.

the bottle itself reveals that this concoction may just be something of elegance...so on usage of said item....i find it slighty weak yet slighty sofisticated in its wonderfull scent...i give it a 8 out of 10.....inexpenisve

Smells like Polo Blue and Jaguar Classic Black. Drydown and skin scent also the same as Jaguar Classic Black. Very underrated because of its weak longevity. You can go trigger happy with this scent and its still okay. 7.5/10

My old solid go to for ages. Kinda gutted it's EDT has been discontinued. But it's what started my fragrance journey. Great fresh scent for work or after gym. Would try it if it came back, purely for the nostalgia.

If you like this one, try Nautica Voyage Heritage. Kind of close, fresh and sweet and in the same price range. In my opinion Heritage is the better one, both smell and longevity.

This review is based on the deodorant spray version of this cologne. The Essence isn't too bad, kind of a sporty generic cologne, but works well for casual settings.

The deospray has a sporty & fresh character. Loved it the first time but I'm not so excited about it anymore. Good and safe as a variation.

Initial lemon/citrus spray is way too harsh, but after it settles, its a really nice fresh fragrance. For $12, it's great. RATING: 7/10

I love the presentation, especially the classy bottle with its etched chrome lid which showcase the sapphire blue juice really well. The atomiser works really well too. I think that it's pretty versatile and can be used all year, but especially in spring and summer daytime. Alas that's where the good news ends. Don't go kidding yourself that it's some kind of bargain basement Creed or Invictus - it's cheap because it smells cheap, coming across as an uninspiring 'fresh blob' of a scent, of drugstore quality to compete with fragrances from Adidas, Gillette, Brut, etc. It also has quintessentially "Beckham-esque" (cr@p) longevity of 3-4 hours on my skin with pathetic projection. That lovely presentation deserves a much better quality fragrance than this. Not recommended, even at its temptingly cheap price. However, there is a silver lining from this disappointing line: the hair and body gel, which easily forms a long lasting luxuriously rich fragrant lather that is excellent and well worth getting in my opinion.

My first ever fragrance, a birthday gift from my uncle which came in the shower pack. When my 11 year old self received this I was quite fond of it. It's fresh and citrusy and you really can't go wrong with it being so cheap. Over time I've gotten more interested in fragrances and I still think it holds up, its not the best fragrance by any means but if your looking more a fresh, aquatic, citrusy fragrance at a super low cost I'd recommend this.

It smells alright, maybe a bit cheap, but it lasts only for about 15-20 minutes on my skin.

I bought this when it arrived at my job, and I liked the test strip a lot more to be honest. This is an extremely inoffensive fragrance, but it's simply generic and linear. It has a strong grapefruit note with a bit of the clean scent of lavender, to my nose. But the problem is it's exactly the same scent from when you spray it and until it's gone off your skin. If you're fond of grapefruit and want a cheap, fresh fragrance, I'd say give it a sniff. But this just didn't work for me. I brought it back as soon as I went to work again. This is a disappointment to me coming from the DB line. Rating: 2/5

I have been recommending this fragrance to lots of my friends and in my collection it gets more use than Nautica Voyage that I once swore by. jacobbonilla is correct - this is a hidden gem. The pineapple and lightly warm tonka seems to work better on my skin vs Nautica Voyages musky / cologney dry down. I notice women prefer this fragance a lot also. It is essentially a skin scent - low projection, but the longevity is above average. I get 4-6 hours of freshness and warmth. This and "beyond" are quality releases from Beckham.

Criminally underrated, tons of violet.. .I own many expensive fragrances and holy shit I LOVE coming back to this one! Subtlety fresh with plenty of masculine musk and whatever else at the base. This is something I’m picturing the legendary Beckham wearing right before he goes onto the pitch ready to disown defenders and leave them with his sillage trail of the essence! Do not let the cheap price tag fool you, while generic this does not smell fake or synthetic, they did a great job with this one! Super versatile, you could rock this in any setting but best for casual wear.Good long performance and weak sillage but damn it’s just good stuff. Don’t buy at target cuz it’s 25$ for a small (30?) ml bottle. Go to amazon and get the big one for 10$. It lasts a long time but only below average projection, if this was just a tad louder I’d never wear another fragrance again.

I have had this fragrance for a very long time now, but I recently decided to try it again after many years of it being in storage (I like to revisit old fragrances, as I am often surprised by them). This one to me reminds me heavily of Invictus Aqua (2015) and A&F First Instinct. The thing is, this was released many years before either of those fragrances. This is a super grapefruit/fruity fragrance that smells a lot like a fabric softener. It is nothing new/different but does smell quite nice. Performance aside, I would rather wear this than either Invictus Aqua or A&F First Instict. As it is less harsh and cloying compared to Invictus Aqua (2015) and has a MUCH better fruity vibe than A&F First Instinct. But it still gives the same overall impression of both.

Sprays on nice and citrusy mixed with a very woody trail which is very refreshing. There is a fruity note mixed with a watery sea spray kind of smell. On the dry down on my skin it resembles DSquared Ocean Wet Woods. When I saw the tester bottle in the store I was a little reluctant to try it as it has been compared to YSL Libre which I cannot stand as it smells sour on my skin. Thankfully The Essence smells nothing like it. The bottle is very nice looking and the blue watery juice inside suits the fragrance perfectly. I bought the 50ml EDT for £14.99 so it was a good deal and I will use this for the Office and after the gym. Good longevity and sillage. 8/10

I bought a bottle of this about a year ago at a chemist - was just looking for a cheap fragrance i could wear during the day, without having to worry about 'saving' it for a special occasion.. think i paid about 20 bucks for a 50ml and I was not disappointed. Obviously it's no yves saint laurent, but it does not have that 'cheap' smell that you'd expect. Fresh and citrusy, quite unoffensive and fairly linear - longevity and sillage is quite poor, but eh you get what you pay for. Most scents last quite poorly on my skin anyway!

I bought this one half off during the after christmas sales. Very good quality for an inexpensive fragrance! A must buy for someone looking to save money but still obtain a quality scent. Smells Great, sort of a mix between Chrome and Allure Sport, very hard to pin this one down, sort of a mix of all the best fresh scent on the market today. I really like this. the only draw back is that you need to reapply every 3 to 4 hours, but its cheap so who cares. Longevity 4/10 Scent Quality 8/10 Value 10/10

I get compliments with this. This is one of those scents that you may find a bit synthetic and bright if you stick your nose in it, but the sillage is where it shines. Fruity, but not too sweet, citrus, but not a bergamot bomb. It has a pineapple and cardamom mid that stays with the fragrance for quite a while. The finish gets just a little powdery but all in all a very pleasant and yes, underrated fragrance. Performance and longevity are surprisingly good for a summer and "celebrity" frag.

Sampled this today and I immediately thought "oh my God! this smells exactly like my beloved Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale." I think there must be some strong similarities in the opening, however, in the dry down the DB juice is more linear and lacks the projection and longevity of AE. Not a bad fragrance all in all and can be had for a fraction of the cost of AE. Good job, Mr Beckham. Nothing new here but a great alternative to some high priced juice.

My second Beckham outing and as I suspected from the note breakdown...no new experience to be had here. Clean fresh zing of citrus which I actually found too harsh but that might just be my nose at the moment as I find many openings don't appeal. When it settles a little it's a nice fresh scent with good value for money. Worth a go but it's not going to enchant anyone.
