Fresh Hay

Mostly clover-flowers (the scent of which I love!) with a little vetiver and tonka. Supremely-sweet-grassiness! Longevity is only about 4 hours or so on me, but I tend to use this more as a room spray to lift my mood, as it immediately transports my mind to long, summer days as a child spent wandering the countryside near my grandparents' farm. My mother taught my sister and I how to delicately pull the tubular petals from clover-flowers and sip the nectar of each one. For its ability to bring me back to those blissful days, I give it an A+. P.S. It will last longer if you layer it over one of Demeter's base-note fragrances- like mahogany, leather, etc.

This is a Midwestern summer day, late afternoon. The sun spreads golden light over everything and the air smells of the hayfields across the street. This is a braid of Sweetgrass your friend gave you, plaited tightly and tied with golden floss. This is a slow, lazy walk in August, the air humid, but a slight breeze ruffling your hair and the sense that you have all the time in the world. Fresh, clean hay. My friend gave me a hug shortly after I’d applied some and she said “Oh man. Oh man you smell goooooood”.

The first time I smelled this I felt like it definitely did not smell like hay. I thought it smelled sort of like sour candy and soap.. not unpleasant, but just not like hay? However as a few days have gone by and I've continued wearing it, my mind has changed and I actually do think it smells like hay now. It's more of like a green hay than like a sundried yellow hay. It grows on me each time I use it :)

Really good. For me a dried hay that takes on that edge of powderiness and sweetness underneath the more wheat heaviness. a little bit floral maybe too? i really like

On me, this is a soft, lotion-y linden blossom with surprising staying power- I love it!

I purchased the 15ml splash. This smells like a mix between sweet hay/straw and my grandma’s clothes. There’s something about it that reminds me of a cat sunbathing as well. It’s very sweet and clean in a linen-y lotion-y way, not really green at all. It’s nostalgic and pleasant. I would wear it in the late spring through early fall. I don’t think I would buy a full bottle though.

This is actually pretty nice smelling. But I don't get any actual hay. I get more just dust, honey, shoe polish and a little bit of Dolce&Gabbana Pour Homme. The overall scent gives me flashbacks to the closet where our vaccum cleaner and shoe polish were stored in my childhood home

A very good idea of hay, grassy, somewhat dry and almost a bit earthy, touch of vetiver. If this had enough longevity, I'd actually use it.

Oh I definitely get hay! Hay and dried wildflowers- it’s the smell of childhood summers at my grandparents’ farm.

When I was a little kid, I had a Strawberry Shortcake scratch & sniff book. The page that featured Almond Tea, Strawberry Shortcake's friend from China, smelled exactly like this perfume. It's synthetically sweet and powdery in a way that suggests almond, but smells nothing like actual almonds or almond extract. Such a nostalgic, early-aughts, childlike, whimsical, artificial scent. Probably not hay, though. There's really nothing green or fresh spicy to this scent, contrary to what Fragrantica would have you believe.

I imagined to smell like either a freshly mown field drying in the sun or these big balls of hay in barns, but didnt smell like any of it. I really really dont enjoy how it smells. I dont have much experience with fragrance so maybe i understood the scent of hay wrong, but from life experience it really doesnt smell like it...for me it smells very powdery, it reminds me of the smell of old peoples clothes...im so disappointed tbh but there might be people who really enjoy it? And everyone smells differently sooooo go for it, dont buy a whole bottle and DONT expect a naturalistic hay smell!!

Ohhh, Demeter, you did me wrong. I blind bought an oil roll-on, because I've loved every perfume I've sniffed that had a hay note. This was just straight chemical sweetness. I wondered if I could convince myself it smelled like alfalfa. No. How about "sweet feed"? That's a super-sweet smelling grain thing you give horses as a treat. And also no. A fake honey (the way cherry candy is fake cherry) so cloying it was unbearable? Yessss. Also made me salty that it had the audacity to leak in transit.

I was a little kid who never paid attention to anything. I perpetually had my head in the clouds. Of course, when you’re forever checked out of what’s going on, things happen without you noticing. Sometimes these are things like your mother signing you up for summer camp and you don’t know anything about it until she’s packing you up on a bus with a lot of kids you don’t know to a place you’ve never heard of. Still, there’s daydreaming and imagining to be done, so I’d just find a seat by myself, lean my head against the filmy glass of the bus window, and breathe in the clean, cool morning air of an early June morning in Ohio, as the vehicle picked up speed and we drove out of the suburbs into the sunshine. Demeter’s Fresh Hay smells like honeyed red clover blossom, warm, dusty earth and soft woody grassy vetiver; the fertile ground of summer daydreams and limitless expanse of a young person’s imagination.

This is my first Demeter purchase and I was initially disappointed because on first spritz this smells like a cheap cinnamon room spray on me. I put a few sprays on before bed thinking I'd probably get rid of the bottle, but when I woke up it really smelled grassy and nice! Like the previous member noted, it smells heavily of a sweet clover filled meadow in the dry heat of summer. And, contrary to what I've heard about this brand, the longevity on my clothes is pretty decent. Nice little find for the price. I will be trying more from this line.

My parents didn't smoke, but they kept a pack of Rothmans International at home for the guests. I liked to open the box from time to time and just smell the unlit tobacco. It smelled like this. A bit heavier maybe; a bit sweet, a bit fresh-green. References to D&G Pour Homme (a tobacco fragrance) are right, and to linden blossom - even more so. It is exactly like Jasmin et Cigarette, but with linden. Or chamomile, or most likely mimosa. Makes me smile every time, as if there was some kind of a smart joke implied.

Sort of disappointed by this one. I came in with a very specific expectation and while it's not an unpleasant scent, it wasn't at all what I was hoping it would be. It has a sort of powdery, very familiar smell I had to wrack my brains for before realizing it was the same smell as when my mom would do homemade soap bars and had it all hardening in molds on the dining table. I guess it could be sort of evocative of hay but I don't think it actually smells very much like it, if that makes sense.

Many online reviews here and over at Basenotes say this doesn't smell like hay, but I can smell hay and clover. It’s not a definitive copy of actual Hay, and does have some glue/base chemical notes, but overall it’s very pleasant and reminds me of summer out at my friend's house in the country.
