Zuko

Meditative aromatic woody scent from the venerable Japanese natural perfume house. The scent has a central camphor note which in the beginning is surrounded by slight spice and Hinoki pine, in the heart by slight vetiver and patchouli and in the drydown by slight oud, benzoin and sandalwood. A meditative and calming unisex scent with many nods to Sasora from the same house, like most of the offerings of this house has moderate sillage and longevity. It is austere and reflective and reminiscent of the olfactory ambience of a Buddhist temple. Must try before purchase, the scent can be considered too astringent for many and requires a serene introspective mood to wear.

smells like a wildlife nature reserve center in the middle of a sticky, windy afternoon. for that same reason it's also kind of weirdly nostalgic? but very off-putting in a woody bug spray way. like everyone else has stated; not a safe blind-buy. edit 10/2/25: very forward cinnamon leaf and turmeric notes. also a little bit of lavender or tea leaf? or smth not quite medicinal but herbal bordering on medicinal. the camphor is very deep and humid but the whole thing is still pretty damn woody and fresh. i wouldn't wear it out BUT i'm not getting rid of it bc sometimes sniffing it can give me a reset and also for sentimental value (my dog's name is zuko).

This is a tough one. I appreciate the effort that goes into a creation like this. The notes seem to point to a contradiction - serenity meets anxiety. I respect what it takes to achieve that. And yet, I had a visceral reaction tied to a recollection of a negative experience: childhood flu. The strong camphor note reminded me of menthol rub - the kind meant to open sinuses. The clove and wood came across as animalic, acidic and rancid. I agree with one of the other reviews that this should be tested before purchasing. Very interesting stuff.
