Rose Roche

I’ve had 3 people so far asking me what I was wearing coz it smelled good. I'm starting to realize Fabrice Pellegrin's artistry is by sneaking up on you. He did it with Leau Papier and now with Rose Roche. I didn't think it had a lot to offer on first wear but I gave it time and boy did it surprise me. This is a rose for non-rose fragrance lovers. It's not complex and may smell familiar to some but it's understated. Pretty but not fragile. If Eau Capitale and Eau Rose had a gorgeous yet rebellious baby (think Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler in Aerosmith's Crazy MV), it would be this. Longevity is really good for a floral freshie and projects quite well too. To my nose it doesn’t smell similar to Paris-Paris but they work really well when layered. It works best in warm or hot weather and smells dull when it’s cold or rainy. I bit the bullet and bought it ‘coz the sample I had put a spell on me. My colleague said it smells like something a law firm name partner would wear. It's funny but I kinda agree.

You can see the similarities between this and Eau Rose if you squint, but the rose aspect of both perfumes is where the similarities start and end. Eau Rose is rose water through-and-though with a little woodiness in the base to give it some longevity whereas Rose Roche is green, herbaceous and a little spicy! I actually really like how @Bubblebee3 likens it to a "strawberry lemonade with leaves on top". A wonderful comparison! Don't expect strong projection though; while this has surprisingly good longevity (about 8 hours) it stays close to the skin, like most Diptyque's do. I already own Eau Rose so this is a pass for now but it's a strong contender to replace it when I finish the bottle! ... ACK, I just googled the price... £250??? Sweet jesus. I'm definitely torn because this balances fresh, floral and spice in a way that makes it soooo versatile! I'd wear this day, night, cold or hot weather... sigh. Another expensive monster goes on the wishlist I suppose!

I am absolutely in love with this fragrance. I went to my local Diptyque boutique to sniff around, not expecting to buy anything new, but when I smelled this I knew I had to have it. I was surprised though to come on here afterwards and see the reviews not being so positive, but that's the beauty of fragrance, it's all so very personal. To me, this perfume is fizzy, like soda, it's bright and perfect for spring and summer. I almost get a hint of dr.pepper or coke or something in the first hour of wearing, but afterwards it turns into a very uplifting citrus rose, which isn't harsh on the nose (and for me, many rose scents are just WAY too heavy and nauseating). I recommend trying in person if you can, I think it's quite unique.

My favorite bottle from this series. The top notes are a very sour rose, and the middle—wow! Cola rose! But it doesn’t have that fizzy soda feel; the lemon and ginger add a refreshing kick. It feels like it could debut as a beverage-inspired fragrance. Unfortunately, the base notes go back to a rather boring rose scent.

Got this in a sample pack, it’s a very beautiful lemon rose. Usually I’m not a big fan of rose but the lemon and patchouli soften it. It’s not too sweet. I really like this

My personal favorite from the new collection. I get the most beautiful, luxurious Coca-Cola with a splash of rose water.

Rose Roche is a very interesting and unconventional interpretation of rose. It does not smell like rose jam, nor does it resemble the classic velvety rose often found in traditional perfumery. Instead, it brings to mind a sparkling pink lemonade or a blooming garden where roses grow alongside citrus trees and other summer plants. The composition feels light, airy, and effortlessly pleasant. In some ways, it reminds me of Rose Atlantic by DS & Durga. However, while Rose Atlantic combines rose with a marine breeze, Rose Roche focuses entirely on the garden itself. There is no salty sea air or coastal atmosphere here—only flowers, citrus fruits, and warm summer sunlight. Compared to Diptyque Eau Rose, this fragrance feels far less traditional. Eau Rose comes across as more mature, more classical, and more centered around the rose itself. Rose Roche, on the other hand, intertwines rose and citrus notes to create a fresh, slightly juicy, and vibrant composition. The rose never tries to dominate the fragrance. Instead, the scent is built around a partnership between rose and lemon. At certain moments, the lemon even takes center stage while the rose quietly steps into the background. The fragrance does not undergo dramatic transformations over time; rather, it gently shifts between its floral and citrus facets while maintaining the same overall character. That balance is probably why I prefer Rose Roche to Eau Rose. It feels fresher, lighter, and more open. While Eau Rose surrounds the wearer with a soft soapy veil, Rose Roche feels more transparent and effortless. I think this fragrance would particularly appeal to those who do not enjoy traditional rose perfumes, rose water accords, or overly classical interpretations of the flower. Here, the rose feels modern, fresh, and natural. To me, this is unquestionably a fragrance for warm weather and summer. It does not feel cooling, but it is undeniably refreshing. There is no heaviness, no density, and nothing overwhelming about it. It remains light, comfortable, and easy to wear even after several hours. I do not think Rose Roche will become my ultimate favorite rose fragrance, but it is certainly one I would happily revisit and explore in different weather and moods. Its appeal lies in its lightness, natural character, and beautiful balance between rose and citrus.

Sometimes, you just feel like you have to correct the record even if you make some enemies. So, in that spirit: this is not a rose fragrance. This is a mineral fragrance. It smells like ocean caves, rocks, salt, and the glimmer of sunshine on the surface of the ocean. It makes some sense that it smells like salt and minerals, because the inspiration for this scent is a desert rose, which is crystal formation made of a few different kinds of minerals. We see that patchouli and lemon are also paired in Christine Nagel's Eau des Merveilles Bleue for a mineral/sea effect. Pacific Rock Moss also uses a woody-citrus combination for its sea effect. The fact that the official note listing on Diptyque's website contains rose should be utterly ignored in my opinion. Nevertheless, this perfume is a minimalist, naturalistic beauty.

You've just finished driving a long leg of the dusty desert highway in your roadster before stopping. You step out of the car to enjoy an (inexplicably) ice-cold, fizzing coca-cola from a chilled bottle. By the side of the road, you drink the soda in an unhurried fashion as the sun's heat simmers around you. You smell the clean, scent of the nearby cholla and desert rose. After the first burst of fizzy lemon-lime zest freshness, there's a dusty rose which settles in like a hazy dusty sunset in Twentynine Palms. Seems like it would be a great perfume for spring or summer - not a boring citrus, but a sort of green/citrus with a deeper rose undertone that doesn't overpower. Decent projection & sillage - it's there, but you won't violently offend anyone.

This is what an apothecary smells like in my mind. I wouldn't say that there is an obvious rose scent in the opening, but definitely floral. The citrus and patchouli are wonderful additions to the rose, and make the fragrance more complex overall. Less pink and more green. Sweet herbal is how I would describe Rose Roche. Side note: I'm reminded so clearly of summers back home in Shanghai with this scent. Mosquito repellent patches? I'll be thinking about this connection all day.

A sparkling, fizzy, zesty rose with noticeable green and citrus notes. It reminds me of frozen strawberrry lemonade with green leafs on top. Definitely a summer of spring scent, with the citrus and floral notes. Although I do enjoy it and find it unique compared to others in my collection, I’m not sure it’s worth the price point.

bubbly, playful, sensual. to me this smells like taking a walk by the ocean, pink sparkling drink in hand. there's something so captivating and feminine about it. almost a bit peppery or tea-like, perhaps that is the patchouli. the rose is present in the background, yet not understated; wondefully subdued by the popping citrus.

Best way I can describe this scent after testing it a few times, is with the Chinese drink VLT lemon tea. The stuff of my childhood. And it smells extremely similar to it. I struggle to find the rose, it’s definitely much more on the lemon/ citrus, but frankly I love it because it reminds me of my childhood favourite drink LOL

At first, rose is a little too strong, but dries down very warm and delicate. Does not remind me of fresh roses or rose water but more muted, like a nice soap. If you like rose but don't want to be overwhelmed, this is perfect

This is really growing on me. It smells like a kind of rose-flavored cola got spilled in the back of a dirty pickup truck on a hot day. The earthiness grows as the scent dries down. Definitely works better in warmer weather.

This is beautiful. To my nose a lighter prettier more feminine version of Eau Capitale. Eau Capitale is moodier and more gothic while this is a more light hearted but still mature, not as light and pretty as Eau Rose edt.

Rose with lemon and clove on the first hour and dry down is more amber. I like it but it's not a masterful example of rose. The rose feels a bit generic but the punchy clove or dianthus is nice.

It’s honestly very pretty and wearable, but it does feel a bit too soft... Just wish it was a little stronger, It stays very close to the skin and fades quite quickly

I like this more than I expected I would! It’s a strong 9/10 for me. Very fresh and feminine, full of life, quite citrusy.

the opening of this was really lovely! I definitely understand the comparisons to rose water with how delicately scented and pretty the rose was, and the lemon added a nice, bright, sparkly note that made it feel quite fresh. I was so pleasantly surprised that I suddenly started reconsidering everything I’d thought about rose perfumes! then, once it dried down, the patchouli came in and completely bulldozed everything else for the rest of the time I wore it (though to be fair, it lasted ages!), turning it into the most generic smoky, vaguely rosey incense scent you could imagine. I’d like to try wearing this again when the weather cools down, because I think it'll at least suit the cold weather better if nothing else - I hope the cloves and spices other people are mentioning would be a little bit clearer. in hot weather like today, I felt like it became so thick and cloying it was genuinely unpleasant at times.

Def not worth $340... just get a decant. I have this fragrance in a mini, and I don't think it is full bottle worthy. Like all diptyque fragrances, they never "wow" me out the gate. Diptyque fragrances have to grow on me. It has to be very specific weather and I have to be in a very specific mood to wear this fragrance. This is not a girly, aquatic, or jammy rose. It is a very green and slightly mineralistic rose. It can be very headache inducing if you spray too much. My main issue with this fragrance, is it lasts TOO LONG. I have worn this a few times, and it stays on my clothes after a wash. Wore this to work, it lasted 24 hours plus on my skin and clothes. If you like this perfume, you could easily get away with owning a travel size or decant because a little goes a long way!!

Starts with a sharp and spicy rose. The lemon comes off as a mix between lemon zest and lemon pepper for me. It smells like something very familiar at first, can’t pinpoint what- maybe the scent of Vernors. Then for the next hour I'm getting a very realistic pickled ginger that eventually mellows down to something a little creamier. Patchouli comes through on the dry down. Interesting but not extremely pleasant to me. It was okay sprayed on my wrist to test, but I can't imagine actually wearing this

I get zero rose in this one; lemon and patchouli take centre stage. The opening feels incredibly familiar, but I can't put my finger on it – perhaps a bit like potpourri, popular in the 90s in stores selling trinkets and decorations? Not for me – makes me feel like I'm trying my Grandma's perfume and playing dressup. A bit like Eau Capitale spiced with lemon (which was also a no for me).

It’s quite a herbaceous and spicy rose with looooooots of dark, earthy and somewhat sour patchouli. It really reminds me of Eau Capitale EdP, so was a bit disappointed that it doesn’t really smell unique. But anyways it’s not my usual type of fragrance so I’m not here to judge.

Fancy hotel soap (checks out since this is diptyque). Seemed incongruent with my heavy eyeliner. An inoffensive office-appropriate scent

As a rose lover I don’t smell any rose and don’t think it should be called Rose Roche. Not my taste.

Rating: 1 / 5 (and that one star is only because it's my favorite brand) I am a Diptyque fanatic. My vanity looks like a shrine to their artistry, and I’ve spent enough money there to personally fund their next three limited-edition launches. But I have to stop pretending that they know how to handle a rose. Rose Roche is screetchy. If you’re looking for a fresh, dew-kissed garden, keep walking. This isn't a flower field; it's a damp, dark basement where they dropped a single rose petal into a bucket of wet dirt. The patchouli here is disgraceful. It doesn’t enhance the fragrance; it stage-dives into the scent profile and crushes everything in its path. It is obnoxiously forward—heavy, earthy, and too masculine to be called unisex. I wanted a mineral, crystalline rose. Instead, I got hit in the face with a patchouli-flavored brick. It’s dense, it’s moody, and it’s depressing. I love this house, but they consistently miss the mark on their rose scents. They always lean either too medicinal or, in this case, too much like a deadly gas. Bottom line: If you actually like roses, stay far away. P.S. Since I clearly won't be finishing these, I have 2 samples up for grabs in my Mercari shop by the same user name. Please take them off my hands before the patchouli knocks me out.

An unfortunate Jekyll and Hyde with my skin chemistry. On paper I got a delightful craft root beer: sassafras, ginger, and a lemon wedge. Truly effervescent, with a magical sparkly quality to the spice. Readily the most endearing opening of Les Essences. However, on skin I got something gnawingly spicy, which took to my sinuses like sandpaper until I scrubbed twice with dish soap. In this monstrous form, it became a tenacious and abrasive cardamom, ground up into a nostril-needling storm with dehydrated rose petals. Can't speak on longevity, because I could only take an hour of it. While it does capture the raw, abrasive character of a desert rose, to quote the late, great Anakin Skywalker: “I don’t like sand.” Mental Snapshot: You’ve got a crush on the soda jerk at your local high-brow hipster haunt. Suspenders, sleeve garters, stick-n-poke roses flashing beneath their collar. They slide you a shiny copper mug. Moscow Mule, on the house. “But you mustn’t let them taste the passions of the flesh!” Your conscience nags. “Remember last time? You were lucky to escape with your nose!” tl;dr: Dr. Pepper and Mr. Migraine 🍺👺

I’m liking the smell of this, and I’m not a rose-forward fragrance lover. Definitely has rose mixed with citrus, and the patchouli gives it more depth. It’s somewhat a linear scent, and it projects. I’m smelling the rose cola a few have mentioned. It’s bright, punchy, a little traditional rose, but a little modern with a fizzy element. I think while the patchouli makes this fragrance more full-bodied, it can be a hit or miss for the wearer. It was giving me a mild headache during the initial stages, but it’s mellowing out now (I’ve been wearing it for 10 mins). Maybe a date night/evening scent for the warmer seasons, but would feel clear and transparent in the autumn and winter months. Update 01/21/26: you know what, in the far dry down (2 hours and beyond), I actually do not like this. The patchouli starts to shine more, and I can’t stomach it. It’s the type of patchouli I’d like to scrub off. Just thinking about the smell of it on my skin makes me cringe. It’s a shame because I thought it was beautiful in the beginning.

I decidedly despise this fragrance and all its heavy, cloying rose-patchouli-ness. From first spray to dry down, all I get is a faceful of patchouli. I'm not sure if it's just my skin composition, but I don't get citrus at all. It also lasts forever on my skin, which, if you like this fragrance, is great. For me, it is unfortunately hell. It's odd to me, especially because I really do enjoy Diptyque's Eau Capitale. Something about Rose Roche smells heavy and linear from beginning to end compared to Eau Capitale's dimensionality. A shame, because the bottle's so beautiful!

Very interesting Rose perfume. Very polarizing. I wonder if it is the patchouli that gives it this men's shaving cream-like feeling but it has a weird sourness to it. Like L'ombre Dans L'eau the people who like it, will like it, the people who don't like it won't like it. There is no middle. Definately not a safe blind-buy. The longetivity on my skin is between 6-8 hours. I wish it would evolve into something else, but no. It is very linear. If you came here expecting to find something similar to Chanel's Paris-Paris, this is not it.

A hot and spicy rose! I couldn't get into this one since patchouli is my least favorite stinker and a base ingredient. This is definitely a unisex fragrance, that leans more masculine. To me, the rose is fleeting, and then the heavy patchouli comes out. Nope. I just listed my sample on Mercari. You definitely want to test this on your skin before you buy.

Lately, this Diptyque has been kinda annoying me. 💀 For that crazy price, it’s way too simple, and the projection? Weak like 3 hours tops on my skin. Honestly, I’d rather roll with Miller Harris Rose Silence cheaper, lasts a bit longer, and that rose hits way prettier 🙂↔️

This has the best opening of the entire line. The rose is perfect in combination of the lemon with the patch to bring beautiful but subtle depth. If only this would remain. The dry down is horrific, it becomes a headache inducing cheap cologne for me.

First spray of this smells exactly like bug spray. Way too much patchouli in this for me. Like wearing bug spray and walking through a rose bush. Sour, stinky, and just downright wrong.

Roses and cloves. Not a great combo. Masculine, but not something I'd want to smell on a guy, because that clove I'm getting from the patchouli could easily shift to body odor.

An unpleasant slap in the face—with everything BUT the rose. For me, this turns into a harsh patchouli bomb. If you want a beautiful well-rounded rose from Diptyque, opt for the Eau Rose EDT. It’s beautiful, fresh, and slightly sweet.

Patchouli ambroxan mess, nothing Rose about it.Very screeching medicinal and it’s staying very long.

This radiant fragrance is unlike any other, and I'm certain of that. Even what's mentioned on the website is completely false. Let me say that this fragrance is legendary, and its concept is brilliant, combining aquatic roses and desert dryness. After acquiring this fragrance, I truly felt this sensation. The fragrance is elegant, cheerful, and never boring, as you will long to spray it at least every 4 hours to feel its vitality, elegance, and the innocence of the roses within it. I don't care about its longevity or sillage, although they are excellent, but what matters to me is the beauty of this scent, which I would like to call the scent of "Angels" I highly recommend you try and acquire it, as the fragrance is light and pleasant on everyone. Overall 10/10

Very patchouli heavy! I’ve heard this compared to a “sparkling rose water” ... maybe in the opening? But it soon becomes a patchouli bomb to my nose, with the rose and lemon in the background. It lasted long on my clothes (I could smell it on my sleeve the next day) but not as much on my skin. I prefer Eau Rose EDT from Diptyque, it smells much more fresh and watery. Eau Rose is like a bowl of cold, still water with rose petals and stems floating in it - whereas Rose Roche is a single mature rose flower stuffed in the middle of a bed of damp patchouli. Much more earthy and edgy.

A rose perfume I actually finally like! Rose perfumes give me headaches.. most of time they are scrubbers, but I decided to buy the mini collection and was very pleasantly surprised that I really like the Rose Roche. To me it’s a rose done right. Very well blended. It’s not your soapy rose smell.. thank goodness. I appreciate the greenness of it, I really like the citrus and patchouly.. it’s goes really well with this particular rose note.

Nothingburger. We have more than enough rose and patchouli fragrances and this one isnt much more than that. Slightly spicy and slightly mineralic but utterly boring and uninspired. At least its the first ambroxan fragrance where i dont feel like im being mauled by a perfume The ginger doesnt smell too different from a non-descript citrus here, so its not even unique in that regard. Why did the diptyque lady give me TWO samples of this

I have appreciated scents that blend rose and citrus in the past, but for this one i find it hard to do the same ... Especially because the citrus here is sharp, almost annoying and literally does not allow the rose to bloom at all. I am getting cleaning product vibes from this one. If the Rose somehow overpowered the lemon, this would have been awesome for me. - Bhavna Darira Chesan

I love Diptyque’s Eau Rose EDP, so I had high hopes for this fragrance. I love rose perfumes in all forms-jammy, fresh, dark and brooding-but this one is sharp and unpleasant. The sharp smell of freshly cut tomato vines is heavy, and I’m not certain where that’s coming from. This fragrance came in a discovery set and I am happy I did not blind buy a full bottle.

For starters, patchouli isn’t my thing! It reminds me of a dirty hippie person who has 10 cats. This though, it is unique and the patchouli note is like butter on a biscuit! I love the scent of rose, a pure fresh rose not your grand mama’s cheap rose! I love this scent and the less I smell it around, the better! I don’t want everyone to smell like me!

This is definitely nothing like Chanel Paris-Paris other than, on paper, they have citrus, rose, and patchouli. Rose Roche is a citrus rose grounded with a little earthy funky patchouli. It wears unisex leaning masculine. Overall a lovely different take on rose and relatively long lasting given how it isn’t largely heavy.

If you take Eau Rose from the same brand, add a ton of patchouli and ambroxan with some citrus touches, you get Rose Roche. The rose is basically drowned by the patchouli and the ambroxan. I find it very masculine, synthetic and metallic. A sample is more than enough for me.

Not directly lemony, but some sharp, spicy citrus nuances (maybe pink pepper or some other spice helped the citrus), rose-patchouli. The scent itself is delicate, but it's just a bland, uninteresting scent. I'm not sure this is the right scent for the price.

To me, it reminds me of a soft rose -Chypre-patchouli combo like in Wow Joop! For woman. Easy to wear and soft on skin. Nice new fragrance but not revolutionary...
