Call For A Good Time

Call for a Good Time by Discothèque feels like the much, much louder sister of Gucci Flora Gorgeous Jasmine — bolder, brighter, impossible to ignore. If you adore that fragrance, consider this a safe blind buy. This is jasmine bathed in sunlight: clean, bubblegummy floral sweetness, wrapped in something creamy. Not green, not rain-soaked or dewy, and not the skanky indolic jasmine I usually adore. This is jasmine at high noon, blooming unapologetically in all her glory — soft, buttery petals warmed by the sun. The yuzu and ylang-ylang blur into the jasmine that reads as a creamy citrus to my nose, polished and luminous. It leans more bougie laundry detergent than sharp lemon cleaner. She stays linear from first spray to drydown, never straying far from her opening melody. As the hours pass, the edges soften; the musk quietly rises, like silk against warm skin. Maybe this isn’t the most groundbreaking scent profile for niche scents, but I don’t care because this is love. The kind of scent I would reach for every single time, no hesitation, even on my deathbed. That’s how deeply I adore it. Signature scent worthy in every sense of the phrase. And the performance? Incredible. Twelve-plus hours on skin, over twenty-four on clothes, lingering like a memory that refuses to leave. The sillage is beautiful too, though for me longevity matters more. I wear fragrance for myself — to live inside it, not to announce myself to anyone else. Some fragrances impress you, some intrigue you, and some simply become part of your story. This one feels like comfort and indulgence wrapped into one — familiar enough to feel like home, but beautiful enough to still make me pause and smile every time I catch it on myself. If loving a fragrance this much is dramatic, then so be it. This is the kind of scent that reminds me why I fell in love with perfume in the first place.

Call For a Good Time is a beautiful, feminine, soft spicy, powdery white/yellow floral fragrance. While my description might make this perfume sound like many other fragrances available on the market, it has its own unique character. Pairing of notes like jasmine, ylang ylang, pink pepper and amber is quite frequent in feminine perfumes, but in Call For a Good Time, we have the addition of yuzu, angelica and violet that creates a spectacular, distinctive scent. I am not trying to exaggerate how beautifully this combination smells like, but it’s definitely addictive. If you love a dominant indolic jasmine with exotic, spicy, powdery, green facets, this one is fantastic! I have bought recently a travel size of this perfume and another one from Discotheque, and after trying Call For a Good Time for three times (may I add out of season for a floral perfume), my hopes for the second scent, All Night Until First Light, are very high. I am confident that when spring arrives, I will go through my travel size in no time and I will probably purchase a 50 ml bottle. For a new niche brand, the perfumes are not terribly priced. Will update in a couple of months if that happens.

I wore this to Austin City Limits and when I got back to my hotel room that night, I still smelled of this perfume. I smelled Good! Even after 6 hours in the sun and heat and three different packed crowds. I was up front at the Strokes show surrounded by sweaty dudes and when I took my outfit off before my shower I kept catching wafts of this from clothes. It’s very alluring and sexy and bright and pretty indolic. I really love it and want to get a full size once I finish the sample — which may take a while as a little goes a very long way. It’s a very straightforward floral. There’s nothing really strange or different about this scent, but I think it’s remarkable in how pretty and how strong it is. I’m a huge jasmine lover so I really do love this. To me this scent is flirty but only if you’re flirting with some seriously heavy handed innuendo. Does that make sense? It’s not raunchy,.. it’s playful,,, but it’s not mysterious. And it definitely smells like summer to me.

It’s a corny name, but I won’t care when I get a full bottle and wear this repeatedly. It’s an airy and carnal jasmine scent that will immediately catch your nose and eyes when this scent tickles your nose in the ballroom of the mansion you are currently partying in. I think of this as a friendly and benevolent woman who approached you, but secretly has a seductive and dark personality. This scent feels so innocent from the bright yuzu and florals, but turns dark quick with that intoxicating jasmine.

I love the ironic and tongue-in-cheek names of all the discotheque fragrances and this one is my personal favourite in that department. While this one is a bit more feminine than I would wear, layered with my favourite scent of theirs (heathens cowboys), it’s a very enjoyable combo. Overall a very well-constructed white floral if that is up your alley and definitely evokes the light shows of tokyo as the inspiration describes.
