Well Dressed Werewolf

Glad this is finally in the fragrantica system. I’m not sure why it’s getting so much hate. I suppose I would also be mad if I blind bought a perfume at this price point and it wasn’t for me, but that’s why I didn't pull the trigger. Instead, I got myself a decant and loved it... so I asked for this for Christmas before it sold out. I think my family is going to come through with the goods. Fingers crossed. Anyway, Well Dressed Werewolf is a sticky labdanum bomb with violet flower and a nice dose of lightly animalic fur tincture. The fragrance that projects off the skin is a rich, deep amber with whiffs of powdery violet. Up close to the skin I get more fur and patchouli. It’s a great little tongue-in-cheek Halloween limited release and wears extremely well in cool weather. I imagine the protagonist of Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London” wearing this. He smells of caramelized labdanum, patchouli, and delicate violet while prowling around rainy cobblestone streets. He has immaculate, dark, slicked-back hair that is the envy of all the other men at the bar. Kinda rugged, kinda sexy. Nothing to fear here. It has garnered compliments on me.

Absolute fucking cash grab, I’m honestly blown away (in a bad way). If you ever smelled Amber Kiso (AK) you smelled a little less nuanced version of this perfume. I’m a sucker for violet animalics and woodsy powder, so when I saw the notes I bought it immediately. WdW is definetely just a take on AK DNA, which I adore. Unfortunately, to me, this scent lacks blending and direction. Opening is this sickly sweet heavy handed labdanum and cedar, you can sense some faint warmth from castoreum and some dry florals. Labdanum is so over-powering that it destroys all depth and poorly bridges with violet and castoreum. Cedar note is basically the same AK note. I am not sure about “fur” note. Even considering this is just a marketing note to illustrate animalic facets - this perfume is extremely faint and animalics just give it slight fuzz which is again very poorly blended with powdery and woodsy facets and just doesn’t develop into something meaningful. I think if you never smelled AK in your life, that could be one of really cool cedar perfumes in your collection, to me, however, it seems absolutely redundant to have both. WdW tries to hit new depths and olfactory realms for AK but it just fails to let the hand of older brother go. You get discombobulated version of their cheaper, older perfume with poorly planned, executed and layered additional accords.
