Sakamoto 龙一

For me, this is one of the most successful & natural takes on a rainforest / forest floor after a heavy rain that I’ve ever smelled.

Sakamoto smells literally like the notes listed. I get mostly rain notes and earthy notes. The vetiver and cedar are prominent as well, although I am not getting very much of the green leaves note. The green leaves note is super subtle and really just an undercurrent to the more notable rain and earthy notes. While this is perfectly unisex, it leans a little masculine because of the vetiver and woody note. There's an outdoorsy ruggedness to the perfume that makes it male-leaning, but I, myself, don't mind a gender-fluid fragrance like this. This is petrichor embodied -- dirty petrichor. It feels a little gloomy and cloudy in the rainstorm, but still definitely a spring & summer type of perfume. Have you ever been caught in a rainstorm during a hike through the woods? Sakamoto smells just like that!

Just adding on here (to @morkant) about "borrowing" between Chinese and Japanese. Case in point: the Japanese language. The Kanji in Japanese are derived from Chinese scripts and characters. I don't think the Chinese ever thought it was a problem that the Japanese "borrowed" these from them. Lol. Another point is...the iconic ramen from Japan, is actually Chinese in origin. The "borrowing" goes both ways. And most usually, it's out of respect and admiration for the other culture; no disrespect intended.

Smells exactly how it rains after a sprout of vegetation, but its def an acquired taste nonetheless.

Funny how I don't see people like Morkant speak up when mediocre Western houses like Floraiku blatantly appropriate Japanese culture and releasing slops after slops. At least Fukudo hired Japanese perfumers and have a good understanding of their culture. From what I've smelled thus far alot of their perfumes did a decent~ great job of recreating Japanese atmosphere and the respective stories they're based off. I could go on and on about the correlation between Japanese and Chinese culture, but beating on a dead horse when the comments below already clowning on these ignorant Western comments is pointless. Their history of culture exchanges far exceeded their own existing culture.
