Eating ripe, juicy honeydew melon by the pool on a hot summers afternoon. Sweet. Aquatic. Nostalgic. scent breakdown - Opens with a bright and juicy punch of sweet honeydew melon and a fresh apple surrounded by a lovely salt water pool accord. As it dries, the focus never leaves the melon but the aquatic notes become more pronounced and a nice underbite of salt comes in to freshen it up and stop the fragrance from becoming sickly sweet. In the deep dry down a twinge of the Gallagher patchouli DNA comes out, but mostly comes off as just a slight androgynous woodiness. personal thoughts - A wonderfully sweet and nostalgic scent for hot summer days and evenings. If you like scents like “Millesime Imperiale” by Creed, “First Instinct” by Abercrombie and Fitch, or any other honeydew melon based scent you have to get your nose on this. A bit synthetic when you first put it on, but that quickly fades and isn’t at all noticeable in the air. Surprised this isn’t hyped up much more. Calone haters should stay away. performance - Great performance of 10 or so hours with a solid 3 hours of 4 foot projection after initial application. rating - 9.5/10. when to wear - Summer pool parties; Hanging at the pier with your friends; Sneaking into a yacht club song vibe - Waves by Alfie Neale TLDR - Juicy & sweet honeydew + Salt water pool accord + freshly cut apple + androgynous woody backbone. One of the best Melon fragrances and easily top 5 from Gallagher. A must try for Melon fans, but be wary if you’re sensitive to the aroma chemical calone. Extremely nostalgic of simpler times where the worst thing you’d have to worry about was a scraped knee or your parents catching you with your Nintendo DS under the covers. Side note - This shares a lot of similarities with Sunscape from the same house, and while I personally prefer this one, Sunscape is a much richer and fuller honeydew melon experience, this has added freshness through that added aquatic twinge. This is better for the warm weather, Sunscape is better for the cooler/transitional seasons.

This is an interesting one. My first purchase from Gallagher, and overall I'm quite impressed. I received some very generous samples as well as a hand-written thank you, and the presentation of the bottle and the box is very nice. As for the scent itself, it opens with a very fresh melon and crisp green apple. Very juicy, delicious fruit notes. There's also a bit of spiciness from the ginger and the patchouli. As it dries down, the vanilla starts to take over, and you get this very calming, tranquil, gentle ocean scent. Mainly melon, vanilla, patchouli, and a little saltiness. Very pleasant overall. My only criticism would be that it can get rather cloying and almost sickly-sweet, especially if you overapply, I actually feel like it could probably do without the vanilla, the melon already gives that very smooth, gentle sweetness, it seems a little unnecessary to me. I'd like to see a little more tartness and a little more salt, less or no vanilla, then I think it would be a perfect scent. As-is, though, it's still pretty damn good. Performance on this stuff is great. Aquatics usually vanish within an hour or two on my skin. This stuff sticks around all day. Sometimes I can even get a whiff of it the next morning. Very impressed. The projection is strong, but subtle. People will smell you, but you're not gonna choke them. I'd say 8.5/10 for this one. The performance and quality for the price point is fantastic, I just think the vanilla and sweetness is a little too much, and I like vanilla and sweet scents. Great scent overall. Edit: I'd love to see a "Noir" version of this, kind of a take on a stormy, turbulent ocean, rather than the peaceful one this evokes. Could be very interesting to see something like this with some darker notes. I'd definitely buy a bottle.

Updated review. While I still do think this fragrance is good I must say that I think that the new price is definitely waaaay too much for this fragrance. $135 was a lot when the fragrance was first introduced but now $155 for 100ml and $95 for 30ml is ridiculous. This fragrance is less niche and more designer. Nothing is wrong with that but these are mass appealing and really nothing that jumps out and bites you. For price point I need niche not designer quality. Breakdown: Longevity: 8/10 (lasts a good 8hrs on skin and forever on clothes) Sillage/Projection: 7/10 (projects good for the first 3hrs) Scent: 7/10 Seasons: Spring and Summer Purpose: Casual Price/Worthiness: 3/10 (Fragrance needs more oomph to warrant a purchase at such a high price point) 100ml for $80-100 would be sweet spot. Love this fragrance! Absolutely love it! Good performance! Amazing smell! Signature scent worthy for sure. Melon, apple, tulip , ocean breeze, vanilla, and patchouli! I can sense all of them. Amazing fragrance. Mr. Gallagher markets this as a year round fragrance and I could totally see it. It's crisp and fresh enough for the summer yet sweet, thick and creamy enough for the Winter. ★★★★★ A niche fruity aquatic that brings back the 90s nostalgia without the synthetic nature of the 90s. This starts out like a a fresh fruit liqueur, I can get apple and melon, sweet start, but the ginger is also evident and keeps things fresh and airy. The heart notes turn this beauty more aquatic, the sea salt along with the floral and watery notes bring out an amazing freshness that balances out the initial fruity sweetness, you can still smell the melon. When it gets to the dry down the scent turns (on my skin) into a light vanilla that is still fresh and has depth due to the patchouli. Overall it stays for more than 7 hours on my skin and I have a good sillage for at least the first 2 hours. Amongst Waves to me smells like the dewiness one can smell when they cut a ripe melon, mixed with the sea breeze. Another image that pops up when I smell it is the image of wet linen, wet from saltwater and limoncello. This is undeniably unique, fresh, nostalgic and classy at the same time. A serious compliment getter as well. My summer staple of 2017, thank you Mr. Gallagher, you clearly have talent and vision.

I am so pleasantly surprised by this perfume. The notes sounded interesting but I often find melon notes of any kind often veer into overripe/zombie fruit territory, combine that with the ocean water and this could easily have been Amongst Waves:CSI Miami edition. Luckily, this smells like eating some fresh honeydew melon while walking along the shore (perhaps this beach is pebbly instead of sandy). It's pure, joyous summer in a bottle with no sign of coconuts or suntan lotion and I love it. A unique and highly memorable fragrance. This is without a doubt a full bottle worthy purchase. Sillage is noticeable but quiet, it won't choke out innocent bystanders, and longevity is admirable lingering around eight hours, maybe longer if you're not doing yard work. Amongst Waves comes across totally unisex. Happiness knows no gender! As an aside, the sample pack is ludicrously generous. Give this house a try!

Opens with a juicy cocktail of mixed fruit along with a blast of something cool, fresh and spicy. A subtle salty breeze blows most of the spiciness away. A fresh vanilla is left, which along with some florals, give this fragrance quite a bit of depth. The earthy patchouli really brings this together as it appears during the dry down. There is a realistic water note in here the whole way though. I really like this one, it's a very uplifting scent. It reminds me of eating a fruit salad at a picnic table on a grassy, ocean side cliff, surrounded by woods and flowers. Waves crash below, exploding into a cool, salty sea mist. It has great longevity and moderate projection. It took me a couple wearings to fully notice and appreciate all the detail in this.

Love it! I actually enjoy the honeydew melon in this. The honeydew melon doesnt last very long in the foreground. It soon fades back with the other fruit notes. The briney air and patchouli base are a large part of this fragrance. The wonderful saltiness eases off quite quickly and it gets a little sweeter and more feminine. I start to notice the other fruit notes. Particularly the apple then the sweetness of orange. The fruits though keep relatively low key. This is essentially a fresh, fruity aquatic and I love it. A great scent to wear in warm conditions. It has managed to have quite good sillage and longevity in this cold room

Got the sample pack and tried this first since it's a nice warm day. At the start I get a juicy salty melon with a bit of apple as well. There's a bit of a patchouli in the far background as well, with something that I can't quite pick out individually but gives the scent a slight powdery feel. Iris maybe? Overall, this is a wonderful natural smelling fresh that is perfect for any warm day. Absolutely unisex to me. I'm going to have to think hard about getting a bottle of this.

I’ve been trying all of the fragrances from the sample pack and this is one of my favorites. I’m not a fan of patchouli but it is blended so well in this fragrance that it reminds me of Coromandel in that it provides a needed background and structure to the fragrance but is not harsh or too prominent. The melon note is sublime and along with the aquatic notes provides a unique experience for a fresh scent. Look forward to getting a full bottle.

Slightly salted watery cantaloupes. I'm a fan of melons in a scent, so it's no surprise that this one spoke to me. I ordered the sample set to try some other popular ones from the house (Rose All Dai, Wicked Good) but turns out this is my favorite. Love this particular scent and it has jolted into my top 5 warm weather scents. Disclaimer: From the sample I received, it is does NOT have good performance.

Wow, I have to buy a full bottle of this magic juice, it's simply incredible! I always find aquatic frags too fresh or clean, and usually they're super generic. But this is none of those things, even though it's quite fresh (but in a good way). It's more melon-y and fruity and it just makes me really happy!

Reminiscent of a pool bar in the Caribbean. Salty oceanic notes in the breeze mixing with the sweet frozen blender drinks behind the bar. Surprisingly long lasting. A very unique take on a fresh masculine fragrance, yet completely wearable and likable. I think this will really shine when it’s hot out.

This is a really intriguing take on a summer scent for men. The melon note is unique and refreshing. The melon definitely provides sweetness - but nothing heavy. Almost a watermelon type vibe. Overall I think this is a very unique summer offering and definitely something I'm happy with. 7/10

This is unlike anything I've ever smelled before, but in a good way. This fragrance is a straight up banger. I bought this blind and it arrived today. First spray was amazing. This is an awesome release and wish I had bought this sooner. Do not be afraid to blind buy this, you will love it.

In the summer i only wear this and Hacivat. This is sooo good. Melon, saltyness, apple, vanilla. Feels like you eating a fruit sallad on the beach with some sunscreen on.

Gallagher Fragrances' Amongst Waves has perhaps achieved the most acclaim of any of its offering except perhaps Bergamust. Certainly its name conjures the aquatic, perhaps specifically the sea, and I believe it consistently reminds me of the ocean via a salt water note that figures prominently in the experience. The honeydew is featured front-and-center, though, and while paired with a combination of several citruses, yields a bright and acerbic opening that eventually gives way to a more balanced coupling of the still-dominant melon with some of the other floral and still-lingering citrus, eventually softening further into a base of vanilla and patchouli. It's a unique taken on melon that, to me, deviates comfortable from Creed Millesime Imperial and Sean John Unforgivable, the oft-referenced melon-intensive options that similarly favor warm weather wearing. At the standard current pricing of $135 for 100ml, one probably has to be close to loving Amongst Waves to buy it, and it's not that I find the pricing unreasonable, but I don't think I quite like enough to buy it myself, though. If it sounds intriguing, though, it sure merits trying. A fun, inventive take on both melon and marine notes by Daniel Gallagher. 7 out of 10

I was very excited to order the Gallagher Fragrances sample set. I'd heard great things about Amongst Waves and Bergamust. I was super excited to get my nose on some fresh indie/niche offerings, most of all, Amongst Waves after the YouTube hype. I have to agree with Tennis3040. I'd heard Amongst Waves has a really great and authentic melon note. When I think of melon scents, Millesime Imperial, and Polo Blue come to mind. Amongst Waves has a really off-putting note I can only assume is the melon. The melon smells too strong compared to the rest of the composition and I don't see myself wearing this. I really wanted to like this, but so far I'm not feeling it at all. EDIT: I decided to test this again. I may have sprayed too much before, not waited long enough for the dry down or both. After putting one spray on the back of my hand, I've been getting whiffs of something nice! Changed my vote from dislike to like. This deserves further testing!

WOW! Melon BOMB!! I've never smelled that note so prominently, EVER. --Even melon doesn't smell this strong of melon! This fragrance is a cool ocean wave crashing against your skin, LEGITIMATELY. My skin even felt cool where I sprayed it. I have a sneaky suspicion it's the ginger, citrus and patchouli playing off of each other to produce a mint-like, almost mentholated vibe. That fades pretty quickly and gives way to a really well-blended cologne. Sweet, fruity, herbal, big-time aquatic, WOW. The overall package is cool, too: the bottle, the label and even the color of the juice all remind me of the cheap Avon-racecar splash my uncle used to wear, but this does it in a tasteful throwback type of manner to me. Like an homage to those blue-collar colognes. It's really neat. I would definitely own this! Will definitely be trying more Gallaghers!

Daring take on an aquatic: salt, sea and .... melon? Lots of points given to experimental risk taking. I like Amongst Waves, and upon first spray I started laughing. It’s just super fun and intriguing. As this developed I found myself liking it more. Yes, patchouli and others I can’t define join the seaside picnic, and the fresh melon note does not leave the party. The patchouli gives this composition a medicinal, musky vibe, and I can’t stop smelling the single spray to the inside of my elbow. I’m on my maiden voyage, about 3 hours in and Amongst Waves is still lightly noticeable on my perfume eating skin. My biggest regret at the moment is that Gallagher does not sell perfumes in smaller sizes, because if this came in a smaller package, say 30 ml, I’d be first in line.

I'm usually not a fan of cantaloupe - the smell is far too often either overripe to my nose, or completely artificial. I feel that this one is one of the few melon accords that I actually enjoy (and possibly the only fragrance with a predominant melon scent that doesn't put me off), capturing more of the rind than the actual meat of the fruit. This reminds me strongly of Creed's Millesime Imperial, but I will admit that I have not worn Imperial enough to judge which I think is better - I will say that Amongst Waves is probably more appropriate for a youthful adult though. Amongst Waves is soft, fresh, salty-aquatic, fruity, and slightly green smelling. Could be more complex, but a very easy wear if not overdone 8.5/10

Amongst Waves is my favorite of the Gallaghers I've tried. It's fairly simple and linear, yet I also find it pretty unique, since I have yet to come across another scent like this. The notes that I largely get are the honeydew melon, vanilla, and sea salt—and perhaps a wee hint of the green apple (but not much). They all blend very prettily to form a light, sweet-but-not-sugary, summery gourmand which feels tropical and fun. When I wear this, I feel like I'm eating honeydew melon sorbet while taking walking on the beach. Good, fresh fun all around!

I suspect now hes back from a short break away Mr Gallagher has his work cut out for him filling the sudden surge of orders for this fragrance after all the positive reviews on this site and other forums recently. Even though its winter here, Amongst waves sounds right up my ally. Congratulations Daniel, I cant wait wait to get mine sent to me here in NZ.

Talk about a change of heart! Now I'm considering buying a full bottle of this stuff. The dry down is really good and unique. The longevity is really good too. As far as my original review, I think I'd sprayed too much on the back of my hand and I was going off the top more than the dry down. This is good stuff and I'd misjudged it.

Smells very pleasant and performs well, very well for an aquatic. I don't know how "authentic" the melon note is, but there is some note in here that pulls this off for me. It smells thicker than you'd think for a fruity aquatic. Overall though, fairly nice for spring/summer. 7/10

Salty cantaloupe/watermelon candy. The opening is a blast of extremely sweet notes. Pretty linear on my skin but the dry down takes a wild turn. Ends beautifully on a really light and airy, slightly salty vanilla note. I can see my 11 year old daughter wearing this.

It's nice, quite interesting. It is fresh and green and slightly fruity with an edge. It's smells mostly of cantaloupe melon rind. Unisex, though it seems best fitted as a spring-fresh masculine scent because of the undertone of spiciness.

This perfectly fits the name. It has that soft, aquatic feel that is just super pleasant and enjoyable... and, by anyone, strictly for the summer. You can't go wrong with this one... It's a strong like for me.

Very cool to smell a realistic cantaloupe scent. Unfortunately, I don’t like the smell of real cantaloupe. The cantaloupe note does fade some after awhile (thank goodness). So, this is just OK+ for me.

Honeydew melon. Apples and oranges. Lime. A blast of minty, fresh sea air. Salt water. Very nice. Florals and ginger in the undertone. A touch synthetic but otherwise great.

Cucumber+ Melon 🥒 🍈 needlessly strong and last really long ...

Opens with a prominent melon note backed with tropical chewing gum. There's a light, floral heart, and the scent is overlayed with an aquatic veneer that remains for the duration. Drydown is surprisingly patch-forward for a scent meant to function as a freshie. I don't dislike this, and there are other scents out there that play the overly sweet tropical fruit card in a far more aggressive way than this does (Toukka Ta Tao comes to mind), but despite the citrus notes listed, for me, this could contain even more of an effervescent tart citrus element to freshen up the composition a bit. Or maybe a hint of mint. The fruit in this feels fun and lively, but I just wish it had more of a refreshing feel, that's all. This will almost certainly land better with certain folks than it did with me.

This was a blind buy, based on several recommendations for a pleasant, light fragrance with some staying power. I have resprayed several times (not because the scent had diminished significantly) in an attempt to figure out what I dislike about the opening notes. Whatever it is, I REALLY dislike it. The good news is, it only lasts about 5-10 minutes. But, what IS it? I'm thinking that whatever people are calling Green Apple might be the culprit. It's really obnoxious. But, once it leaves the party I'm getting the cantaloupe and other fruity notes. And nothing to write home about at all. Just pleasant, nondescript fruitiness. I probably won't replace this bottle once it's gone, but it's an interesting olfactory experience.

This is easily one of the most unique scents out there. I wasn't blown away by it initially but i really like how different and unusual it is. While wearing it, i felt as though i was some kind of otherworldly being. It smells a bit unappealing up close but much better in the air when it projects and also drys down pretty good. Need some more time with this to see how much i like it though as i imagined it to be very different to how it actually is! I do also get a slight hint of Juicy Fruit gum lol.

Oh no, the way the cantaloupe is done with the remaining notes give me straight up paint and varnish. This brought me right back to the apartment being under the early stages of construction. Yes, I can see the cantaloupe, but it is shrouded in a plastic, rubber, and whatever not-good-for-you chemicals present in that environment, at least back in the day. So stinky like burnt rubber and plastic, gasoline gone back, and something else that screams to me “danger!”

Amongst waves - a fragrance with aquatic name. How can this be more misleading. I get no aquatic feels at all, just melon with some spiciness, and thats all. Some people comment of wonderful base note on the skin once this dies away but i dont get any of that. It has good sillage and longevity, to me this is just an in-your-face melon fragrance. Doest smell niche at all and at the price point this retails for, its definitely a pass.

The performance of this one is stellar but after owning it for a few months, with minimal wearing, i decided to sell it as it just wasn't for me. I found it to be more artistic rather than wearable and didn't really feel like i was wearing a fragrance but more of an art piece. It doesn't smell bad by any means, it's just so unusual that i didn't feel comfortable wearing it. It is extremely unique though, i'll give it that!

Nice sparkling melon top. Nice salt note. Interesting blending with some dynamic facets. Somethingg headache inducing in the first 15 minutes though. Not for me. My wife loved it. Used a 2ml sample decant from American Perfumer from June 2020.

Generic green summer day fragrance, a lot similar to Nautilus Voyager but much more expensive. Received as a sample and not bottle worthy imo.

The most authentic juicy honeydew melon there is. Gorgeous yet delicious. I think fans of Millesime Imperial will absolutely love this one.

First Impressions (sample spray) This is a melon L’Impetrice by D&G gone severely synthetically wrong. Actually that may be a disservice to L’impertrice because at least that one is wearable. This fragrance is like opening a decomposed rotting melon. Absolutely not!!! I’m appalled. Edit 1: I tried grubbing this one off. WHY IS IT STILL THERE!!!! Summary: Smells like: synthetically salty rotting melon Family of: N/A Silage: strong Verdict: HARD PASS

As someone who lives in tropical climate, i put so much hopes with this fragrance. But it is one of the most nauseating scent ive ever smelled until now. Too loud, super long lasting, too sweet, too screechy. The notes of those fruits all indeed were blooming in high heat and humidity to the point of becoming repulsive.

Smells pretty good for the summer, but beware that nice looking green coloring will stain your clothes. Wear darker clothing because I wore a brand new cream colored shirt and it looked like I got spit on by a leprechaun lol

The drydown is nice and gentle and i get some - fruitiness,melon,vanilla and patchouli. Emotions - island of white sand,fresh melon fruit salad, pleasant,calming,sensual,relax. Occasion -perfect for daytime casual activities.

I'm going full Gall(review 7/8). One of his best and right up there with Bergamusk. This has what i call transportation quality meaning it has the ability to evoke nostalgia. Amongst waves could of easily been called Amongst fruit. The abundance of produce is from one end of the fragrance to the other showcasing longevity and depth rarely seen from fruit based perfumes. The water note is as natural as you will ever find in niche perfumery. The batch i'm testing has an accord that smells like i've been at a water park all day; very blue and can be very cloying. The thrill is real. It's impossible to spray and not comment on the authenticity of notes. Aromatic aquatics is not a genre i'm interested in nowadays but with that being said, I will always remember this creation for its succulence. In the end, this isn't too crazy and not too wavy for your sandcastle.

Was really excited to try this. The notes and description sounded fantastic. I got a sample and... Really? Thats it? The melon note is way too strong. It was all I can smell, even in the dry down. I think if they cut that melon note in half, and let the other notes shine, this would be an amazing summer fragrance. As it is right now, its gonna be a no from me. The best way I can describe it, is my girlfriend has a cucumber melon essential oil thing and it smells exactly like that. Someone else mentioned a walmart candle and yeah theyre spot on too. For the price, its not worth it. Id love to see some tweeks made because this truly does have alot of potential, but I really think this left the testing stage way too early

This would have pretty great without the melon bombe. Sadly, it's just all over the scent here; it's basically exactly a bit of a grown-ups Cool Water Summer Game. Refreshing but I really don't like the emphasis on limey, salty stuff and the melon being cooling and generally not among the sweeter of fruits just adds to the 'Calone melon' vibe. Was digging and groping for the Apple everywhere, but it was either too faint, the non-sweet type, or mixed in. Nope. Of course, this will be summer heaven for many, but I want a bit of a Pineapple sweet yellow, not fruity ozonic-green in my Summer scents. So, please take into account my heavily daft subjectivity in my opinions and my rating =) My rating: 4/10

I bought a candle from Walmart awhile back...cucumber melon. Yea, this is the exact same scent. No exaggeration, it smells like they bottled the cheap Walmart brand candle. I don’t think I’ve found two things that smell so similar in all my life. Im sure it’s a strange conscience, and as a candle it smells good, but as a wearable fragrance, not so much. It’s not bad, but it’s not something I want to smell like, ever, really. And I wouldn’t call it aquatic by any means, especially what you’d think to be an aquatic cologne like Bvlgari Aqva or nautical voyage. It’s very artsy as someone said, more of a novelty scent IMO. Not worth the high price tag. Try a sample before you buy for sure

I received this with a purchase as a sample. I pulled it out and used as my scent of the day and was rather surprised. It has a pretty strong opening note that you instantly pick up on a sweet cucumber. It last about 10 min then starts to settle down to a nice sweet honeydew smell. I got a solid 7 hours of good performance that could be picked up about one arms length away then another 4-5 hrs staying close to my skin. I would say this is a spring fragrance. I don’t get any aquatic from this like others mentioned. To me this leans more to younger audiences. I enjoyed it for the day and it is a nice and unique fragrance but I’ll leave it for you younger fella’s.
