Jardin a New York

I wear the original Vanderbilt and this fragrance feels like it's scaled down version with the white floral notes being the showpiece rather than the rose or other floral notes i.e. ylang ylang, carnation, and without the fruity citrus or the dry down of musk. Jardin a New York doesn't feel like a New York garden and I've lived in NYC so I know what that city smells like and it's gardens and parks; and this is not it. Instead of a garden scent this is more of a spring season or summer white floral bouquet or white floral arrangement in a church. It's giving me Easter Sunday vibes. There is a woodsy note that jumps out at you in a good way, a clean wood that feels like a kind of church lectern. There is a very toned down gardenia but it's mainly jasmine. This is a light powdery white flower scent. The sweetness is floral without any real fruity flavor to it. There is supposed to be a citrus based opening via the petitgrain (bitter orange) and neroli but it only provides this scent with a green and fresh and invigorating opening. Smells like opening up a window in the morning in spring/summer and letting the fresh air and sunshine in. It's a delicious opening but fades quickly. Little green herbal specs here and there. The white flowers emerge and run their course. There is a woody dry down with a bright amber. This perfume is simple and very clean, great to wear for after your shower and when you don't want to make any statement with your fragrance. You just want to smell clean. It's also good for spraying on bed sheets and pillows and on you before bed time. It's a soothing and relaxing scent. Great for spring and summer season because it's fresh and zesty. Dries down to wood and powder, soft and delicate. A scent that sits close to the skin and lasts about 4 hours. Very nice. At an affordable price on Amazon.com you end up with a fragrance that smells more luxurious and high end than it's retail price. Smells as good as for example Chanel Gardenia Crystalle or a toned down No. 19. I love this perfume. If you like clean green white florals you gotta try this.

This was a blind buy, and I’ve had quite a journey with it. When I first tried it, I wasn’t super impressed, though I agreed with other reviews noting that it really does smell like a fresh spring garden. (And @isabelleschou’s review below is possibly the most beautiful and moving review of anything ever.) A few months after introducing Jardin à New York to my collection, I gave it another go, and I realise I gave it far too little credit in the beginning. No single floral note stands out more than any other, which makes good on the “jardin” objective. Trailing each sniff is a hint of sweet mint, which I love, and which I assume can be attributed to the petitgrain. The fragrance is not linear to my nose; the florals gradually fade and give way to a lingering, airy sweetness; none of the individual notes listed are particularly sweet, so I guess it’s just down to the combination again. This is very much a skin scent; I don’t gather any projection, even with reapplication. I’ll try it again in even warmer weather, but I don’t have high hopes. But, on the plus side, that makes this a solid and inoffensive choice for the office.

I see different opinions down here, as is mine.. I have the original yellow GV and the pink GV - Minuit a NY- as well and I consider both rich, voluptuous and feminine scents. So I went the other day to the drugstore and one the shelf was this bargain offer for GV Jardin in NY, I could not resist and bought 2 bottles of 100 ml right away. It's the same glass bottle with the swan and golden cap, just the colour of the juices inside differ: yellow, pink and green. The scent is so different compared to the yellow GV and pink GV. This green GV is sharp in the first seconds of opening, it makes me sneeze but it develops quite soon into a flowery scent with a hint of warmth at the background. After 15 minutes the white flowers develop but do not blend and I agree with the comment of taureanrage69, its a bit loud. The harmony starts after 30 minutes and the warmth stays quite long. i do like this perfume, especially when I'm tired. It's uplifting in a good manner.

This was a "buy to get free shipping" purchase, and I didn't have high expectation but this pleasantly surprised me. I sprayed once to my wrist and a couple minutes later I was surrounded by a lovely green garden. I suspect this won't have much longevity, but the sillage is very good.

I cant smell this at all in heat or humidity. Ive noticed a cool fall day brings out the beauty in this one, im thinking maybe winter might make it stronger. I hope so because upon first spray im in heaven and i want that to last!

I really like this one. An easy grab when I'm craving a lighter fragrance. Not very wow objectively, but to me it's a plain green floral. It's so lovely to me, but it shines more I think when layered with a similar mist or oil.

Pleasant green floral but VERY short-lived, lasts under an hour, reminds me a bit of Elizabeth Arden's "Beauty" which is also light but lasts a little bit longer

Smells a bit like Halloween EDT for her, but a bit fresher. Pleasantly sweet.

Jardin à New York is Spring in a bottle, and it brings me back to my childhood, calling forth in my consciousness vivid memories of spending time with my father taking care of our garden with massive amounts of grass, trees, bushes and flowers. These memories are priceless to me, as my father has Alzheimer's Disease and he no longer knows who I am. I love my father. I miss my father. Wearing this fragrance is like being back in our garden with him. That said, the memories are not the only reason why I adore this fragrance; it is a positively gorgeous and decadent bouquet of flowers, tamed by green and semi-sweet freshness, balanced by woody resinous depth and ambery warmth and sensuality. I find it hard to not constantly bring my wrist to my nose, close my eyes and inhale deeply. Ahhhhh! I am not a fan of the original GV Vanderbilt (yellow juice, swan bottle, 1982) because aldehydes almost always make me queasy, GV Minuit à New York (pink juice, swan bottle, 2015) is a rich and feminine oriental floral, this one, GV Jardin à New York (green juice, swan bottle, 2016) is gorgeously fresh, floral, woody and green - the petitgrain is simply lovely in this one. It opens clean and smooth with gardenia and petitgrain, giving an uplifting and vitalizing sensation, evoking smiles. The opening is quickly enriched, not overpowered, when the heart notes of earthy neroli, pink peony and night-blooming jasmine kick in. Neroli and petitgrain both come from the bitter orange tree; neroli from the flowers, and petitgrain from the leaves and twigs. Neroli is airy, citrussy, green, honey-orange. Petitgrain is woody, fresh, green, slightly sweet, bitter, masculine. They are like family, different but complementary, and they are best friends with the peony and jasmine. The delicately fresh and calmingly soft pink peony is daringly paired with night-blooming jasmine, and it is brilliantly done, as the natural smell of this jasmine is heady and overpowering, intoxicatingly gorgeous, when in bloom. The cedar grounds the fragrance by its woody freshness with hints of resin, adding depth and balance in collaboration with amber, which is a ‘fantasy’ accord, usually of labdanum, benzoin and vanilla. The warm and powdery amber adds a touch of classy sensuality. Amber can come across animalic, but this fragrance never smells animalic to me. On me it lasted about 4 hours before becoming a skin scent, which surprisingly lasts for quite a long time. The projection is moderate, my boyfriend could smell it a couple of meters away from me. He likes it, but had it been sweeter, he would have loved it - it is a guy thing, I think. I would wear this for any occasion in Spring and Summer - and any other time, when I miss my father, for the priceless childhood garden memories. Note: Petitgrain contains geraniol and linalool which are known to trigger sensitivity in some people, most are unaffected though (including myself).

Perfect for the office, for days when you just want to smell good without overthinking it. It lasts around 6–7 hours on clothes and, honestly, for the price, it’s almost absurd. There’s no pretension here, no “artistic concept.” It’s simply a well-made fragrance. Nothing about it feels retro, even if the bottle might suggest otherwise. This is modern cleanliness, the kind that feels natural, not synthetic. It’s one of those perfumes that doesn’t change my mood... but somehow puts my day in order.

I bought this perfume this last summer in 100ml format directly because of its low price and because it was recommended as a fresh perfume by a youtuber that I really like how she reviews fragrances, Irasema from Memorias de un perfume, and I am so glad I listened to her, because she described it very nicely and it really is. I have already spent about 35ml in about two months, now that the cold has come I no longer use it but I am sure that when the heat returns I will finish it. It is really a fresh perfume that does not bother the people around you and is appropriate even in summer with very high temperatures. I used it on skin and clothes because there is a lot of humidity where I live and when you sweat that much, any fragrance doesn't last long, but on clothes, it holds up to washes and washes, it's wonderful to open the closet and have this scent there hanging on your summer dresses. It smells mainly of gardenia and petitgrain, but especially gardenia, a fresh gardenia. It is the smell that Monoi tiki tahiti oil has with the gardenia flower inside, but that is heavy, on the other hand this perfume has nothing heavy or burdensome. Wonderful.

This is a lovely fragrance from Gloria Vanderbilt--a tried and true brand. White flowers, cedar, and amber are the stars of this feminine, but flirty fragrance. Longevity is wonderful, as it dries down to a gardenia, amber treat. Projection is moderate--which is my preference. The price for the value is simply excellent. There is a touch of soapiness contained in the dry down, as well. This is perfect for brunch with the ladies as the weather cools, or a picnic in the park as the temperature rises. I believe this to be a safe blind buy for women of all ages.

To me, this perfume smells of syrupy flowers. A little bit on the sweet side, but still nice and extremely good value for the price. I don't think it smells expensive, but it could definitely beat a lot of mid-price feagrances in quality. For some reason, to me this smells of raspberry, and I'm surprised it isn't a note. One thing I will say is that I usually struggle with an alcohol smell from most cheaper fragrances, which this doesn't have at all.

Another blind buy gone right. The gardenia is beautiful and creamy. I would describe the woman who wears this as being feminine, humble, classy and timeless. Something in this smells familiar, but at the same time, I get a very fresh and mordern vibe too. I am using this during hotter days because I feel the florals in this are really elevated on my skin with heat. However, I don't like this in cold weather.

Very uncomplicated and cheerful white floral with the aldehyde lift. It's fresh but not green. Great dimestore fragrance that is nice on skin and as a room perfume. Brightens my mood, fades quickly. At 1 hour there is a surprise water note on top of the flowers, nose to skin.

This is lovely. I like white florals. There’s definite citrus, which must be the petit grain that keeps it very fresh and aromatic. Overall, it’s a pretty feminine scent. Makes me think of flower gardens in late May.

Bitter, floral, creamy limes. Is that the petitgrain? I quite like it. This gave me a flashback to middle school, when I used and LOVED "Limelight" body splash from B&BW.

Beautiful, sweet, calming, interessting. The sweet undertone comes from the petitgrain, gardenia and amber I guess :) Love it !

This was a blind buy at a very cheap price. Seeing that it had one of my favorite notes (petitgrain) as a top note, I took the chance. At this price (under $10) I'm not disappointed. The presentation is the very same bottle in the GV for her, with the swan and all. The difference you'll see with this one is the color of the juice: a very light green, so light I had to look twice at it in different light to make sure of what I was seeing. Although I like this more than dislike it, I can't see myself wearing it often. The flowers in here are very loud. Gardenia, jasmine and peony are all quite sweet, and there's a lot of loud sweet floral going on that tend to overwhelm the petitgrain. I was hoping the petitgrain would balance it all out nicely, and although it's detectable, it just seems like the shy girl on the playground that gets bullied by the loud aggressive girls. On the positive side, it does smell better after it mellows for a while, say half an hour. Projection is fairly light to moderate, similar to the GV for her. It lasts a few hours, around average to most other perfumes I have. If I would have pre-smelled before purchasing, I probably wouldn't have bought it due to the rude flowers and overly-shy petitgrain, but at least my curiosity has been satisfied.

So, like the poster below me, I purchased this fragrance to get free shipping. I've actually been curious about it since it came out since it's gotten mostly favorable reviews and I usually go for white florals. I'm also old enough to remember when the original Gloria Vanderbilt scents first came out and I remember being quite captivated by that swan bottle although I never owned any scents of the line. So, I hate to say that I am very underwhelmed by this fragrance. It seems to lack character and is the very epitome of 'non-descript'. It's pleasant enough - I get mostly a soapy and slightly aromatic vibe from it - but I can't really see a reason to leave it in my collection. I think I'll be passing this one on.

Pretty white floral but with zero sillage or longevity. In fact, I can only smell it in the air as it is spritzed and not on myself. May be due to skin chemistry, but I can see others also have qualms with longevity and sillage. Also quite linear, I can't catch any amber or woody base notes, just a simple jasmine and gardenia with a hint of petitgrain.

This opens very green but this soon passes and it then settles down to a smooth pleasant almost vanilla to me scent. I’m disappointed that I don’t really get any gardenia and it certainly won’t replace my much loved Secret Gardenia by Miller Harris. Sigh, the search for a gardenia as good as that goes on.

Jardin a New York is a nice and elegant fragrance, especially for the work environment. Nothing groundbreaking or original. Definitely well blended. Smells more expensive than it is. Projection moderate and longevity is fine (5 hours on my skin and a bit more on my clothes). @deepgreenbeauty

I got a monster-bottle (100ml/3.38oz) of this green water :)) I was very curious about this rewarded perfume, and I was in for a nice surprise ;p Well, it smells very good, if you like gardenia, and it is fresh and green. I don't get much of the peony, or neroli, or the jasmin. But, I get the cedar and much amber. The drydown is in fact very nice, and I think this perfume is office-safe. 7/10

I don't understand the reviews calling out smelling creamy notes, if anything this perfume is the farthest from that. Instead it reads as citrusy and floral, something I'd personally have worn out on a sunny day had it not smelled too generic. Not for me.

Unfortunately I get no freshness or green notes from this - just the same powdery sweetness that I got from the original GV. It isn't a bad fragrance, it's just not for me.

Not terrible, but I think it smells too much like a cleaning product. Like a "garden fresh" hand soap, or something like that.

I suspect the New York garden theme comes from Gloria Vanderbilt's connection to New York. Beyond that, I'm not entirely sure what feels specifically New York about this fragrance. Still, it's a really lovely scent and, yes, very Vanderbilt. It's quite different from the original. A few reviews mention that it's creamy and powdery. I honestly have no idea what those reviewers are smelling, because this couldn't be further from creamy or powdery. Soft does not automatically mean creamy or powdery; those are entirely different scent profiles. This is green. Very, very green. It's soft, fresh, and slightly dated, though not because it smells like a grandmother's perfume. I'd describe it as sophisticated rather than mature. Younger people with a poise could pull this off. It definitely doesn't smell modern, but it doesn't feel stuck in the early twentieth century either. It's the elegant 1970s Vanderbilt character. I'm still debating whether to buy a bottle. I've been looking for a low-key green fragrance, but around here it's only available in a 100 ml size, and I'm not sure I wouldn't eventually get tired of it. I'd love to find a smaller bottle, but that doesn't seem to be an option. For now, I'll probably pass and pick up a full bottle of Éclat d'Arpège instead. I currently have a 30 ml bottle as a test to see if it's a fragrance I can live with long term. That said, if I ever come across a 15 ml Vanderbilt Jardin à New York, I'll buy it. Overall, this is a very pretty green white floral with body-spray-level longevity and soft sillage. It is not powdery and it is not creamy. It's soft, bright, elegant. And as I said in my review of the original Vanderbilt: elegant, yes. Expensive-smelling, no. And definitely not "old money" - mentioning it specifically for the old money influencers in beige Zara pants.

I find it quite surprising that I love this fragrance that much because I did not expect a lot from such a bargain fragrance from the lowest shelf of the drugstore. I love my greens - my first perfume loves were Jovan Fresh Musk and Coty's Chanson d'Eau. I think this fragrance is in the latter's cathegory as I find it very green and citrusy that never past the territory of the acrid citrusy fragrances because the lace of whote flowers balance it out beautifully. This also remind sme of a 'green tea' scent, a fictive green tea, of course but comforting and calming and sensual in a good way. This is indeed a very affordable fragrance and smells kind of that way but I don't mean this in a tasteless 'cheap' manner but in a SPA body mist manner that makes you feel luxuriously treated. So far this is my favourite of the newest releases of Vanderbilt.

Blind Buy - Nice , however a "familiar" vibe that , may have you going "I've smelled this before". Smells much more expensive that it actually is and for a cheapie -- smells better than a lot of Marshall's "$24.99" product. If you're getting into Gloria Vanderbilt , maybe this is not the one to start with. (Vanderbilt - the original is leaps and bounds better). Longevity seems below average. I cannot smell this after 7 minutes. Overall, likable but forgettable. Good for office and job interview : it's very light.

Bought this for an extremely good price, based on good reviews - what intrigued me was a comparison to the long lost Eau De Givenchy. Alas: not even close but a nice, fresh floral scent, office friendly and completely BLAND. I do not regret buying it, it will very probably be my last bottle, though. Edit: I have been using this every day now and it is not bland, merely held back. It has really grown on me. 10€ well spent on an unobtrusive fresh white flower scent, all good. Happy.

Another bad blind buy. Smells like citrus house cleaner. Very sharp smelling. Then it turns into a sickly lotion type of smell. Very like Mugler's Alien. Not good. This one is going in the trash. Edit: 5/27/22 The jasmine note really reminds me of Mugler Alien jasmine. Very otherworldly, cloying, and very, very, fake. I haven't thrown this out yet. I do try to give a perfume every chance but this one has got to go, and it will today.

It came to me as a swap and I must say I'm not disappointed. It's white flowers topped with petitgrain with some underlying amber. I get the tiniest bit of rose, but this is a predominantly fresh white floral fragrance. This is something you could wear in spring especially, as an everyday perfume and everyone will compliment you or at least note to self that you smell wonderful. Inoffensive but memorable, pretty, very feminine.

Green but not fresh. I’d swear anybody thinking this smells « like a garden » hasn’t smelled the real stuff for a big big while. But if you’re looking for a laundry gardeniaish flower on creamy wood base, this will be your thing. I got my bottle for 8€ so nothing wrong. Several years later, I came back to it. In winter, its floral milk soap is comforting. Like taking a warm green bubble bath.

Ohh my this is beautiful! The opening of Jardin reminds me of some expensive perfume, well at least more expensive than a 10 pounds vanderbilt. Something like Eau de Givenchy, or even Chanel No. 19 EDT. Crisp, crystal like, fresh and green. Like a love child of Chanel No. 19 EDT and Chanel Cristalle EDP. Definitely worth every pound! Go for this perfume, don't think twice!

It starts out Rich, Sweet and fresh and I really like it. Then it starts to turn into a strong Jasmin scent. It reminds me of Alien by Mugler. I dont like the latter, so unfortunately this perfumed changed too much. So sad, cause I was really impressed over this one in the beginning.

I don't get it. This has just been awarded Best Mass Market Scent for Men at the 2017 "FiFis", so ... where are all the reviews? Where is all the "mass market" love? And why does arriving at this page feel like landing on the moon ...?

Very beautiful, and works for all ages. Such a great value. I absolutely love this on my daughter. She doesn't wear it in winter. I still think it would be pretty, but it makes more sense for spring and mild summer days in my opinion.

Gardenia is usually too strong a note for my taste, but here it is quite tame - not overtly sweet, but creamy. It is a simple fragrance, but I like it. My favourite from the Vanderbilt collection.

Actually it won "Best Feminine Perfume in Wide Distribution". I also wonder why there are no reviews by now. If you have this, you'd better spill it out! Thank you ;)

Very citrusy, fresh and delightful at the opening but then it fades into almost nothingness. Apart from a very very weak musky smell. Nothing else.

Old-fashioned ja! but still Beautiful and I use it a lot when it is summer. Fresh and happy perfume :-)
