Les Colognes Vetiver

Bright salty/citric vetiver in the top, that will quickly be joined by a lemon leaf/neroli combo as co-player, as some aromatics and subtle spicy support. The saltiness is way subtlier compared to the original Goutal Vetiver (1985), and the strong allspice-tobacco accord is totally missing here. It wears light, but that doesn't shock me since it is marketed as an EdC. This one is unfairly compared to the 'original' one because, aside a some saltiness facet of the vetiver, it does not have a lot in common, and I genuinely thing that it hasen't been blended to become - at all - an alternative to the original. No, here Goutal just wanted to market a light/fresh vetiver, and they beautifully reached that goal, imo. To my nose, it stands at the intersection with CdG Vetiverru, PE Vetiver Indien and Mugler Cologne, and shares some similarities with DS&D Cowboy Grass (but more remotely). A bit of a TdC 'Sel de Vetiver Light', focusing a bit more on citrus than earthy/salty facet. If one doesn't expect a heavy, dark, quite unique vetiver fragrance like its older brother, but instead shops for a refined, classic styled, mood lifting, easy to wear citrusy-woody EdC, I can't think of a better option. While full retail price is clealry too steep for what it is, I would still highly recommend it as an easy, simple but delightful reach for warmer days at discounted pricing. (current ebay pricing - $50/200ml - makes of this a big winner in my book). If this one sounds like it could walk right up your alley, I'd suggest to rush getting a pop, since this one also is now discontinued. Leans (a bit masculine), but very wearable by both genders. 25+, warmer days. I'm ending this review with a smile on my face :)

I really love this EdC Version of Goutal's Vetiver. I've been looking for a Vetiver scent that was more on the feminine side as most Vetivers are quite masculine and thus just not for me. I was very happy to find this EdC as it combines some of my favourite notes, - vetiver and iris. I wonder why there are only vetiver and "spicy notes" listed here? The Goutal website states vetiver, iris and salty notes and that is exactly what I get, a wonderful, simplistic, very refreshing and elegant combination of cool vetiver with a slightly powdery and sweet, but also fresh iris and a little bit of salt. For me this definitely is a feminine scent and I couldn't imagine my husband wearing this. It's exactly what I was looking for for a long time, an elegant and fresh vetiver scent, that is still very feminine and Annick Goutal gave me just that - love it!

A wonderful antitode to oppressive heat and humidity. What I appreciate is that despite being a cologne, here soft doesn't mean wimpy. An opening of zingy lemon sets a bright tone and alerts the senses. The vetiver that follows is strongly aromatic: flushed by the moisture of sea air and then dried out under a baking sun, leaving behind salt-crusted roots with a faint whiff of smoke, as if on the verge of catching fire. There's also a sprinking of iris - no more than a bit-part player but a worthy inclusion as a mellowing agent to wind down the day. If you want to trade the office for the beach, pounding the pavement for strolling across warm, powdery sand; still air for a wafting breeze; or neon lights for a dazzling outdoor sun... ...Annick Goutal's Vetiver Cologne is just the ticket. A summer staple.

growing up i had a grandmother-esque figure in my life who lived on the beach and always had a cocktail in hand and breeze blowing through her hair. i'm unsure of what perfume she wore, but the trifecta of those three elements has been something i've chased for decades. a few years ago i realized the closest i could get (for reasons i can't quite explain), were proper vetiver scents. but as the note became trendier, more diluted and thrown into whatever blend, i lost that nostalgic effect. i found a this-era bottle of annick goutal vetiver cologne today. i'm instantly transported again. vetiver and salt air. this is what i've been hunting for 30 years. (and alas, is virtually unattainable). i hope to smell the original vintage someday...

Good "salty" vetiver! It reminds me Vetiver Des Sables by Montale, although that one is more rusty and has stronger vetiver in it. I am surprised to see some entries in the reminds-section. Vetiver Ambrato? That scent is one of my absolute favourites, but it's not salty-marine type at all (as this Goutal's is) but rather amber-spicy vetiver, even having less vetiver than usual, and much stronger and deeper too. Cowboy Grass? That one is pungent clary sage herbal version of vetiver, very strong and good while Goutal's is weak, modest, light and has a different smell. But noses and skins are different so there you go, I only described my experience. Everybody's good friend Ms. Statistica here seems to know the truth :)

The simplest, lightest of vetivers stripped of any organic notes, with a clay-like saltiness and an airy spiciness that could be coriander or cardamom, growing fractionally grassier each time I smell it. So simple. In the top the wispiest of lemons, cardamom and salt, in the heart the simplified vetiver. Overall it's cool, mineral, dry, a little austere and masculine, very light indeed. It's addictive. I love it, it's a shame it's been discontinued and I'm glad I hunted down a bottle online. Perfect for sunny days, spring through to autumn, office or outdoors.

Interesting fragance from Goutal. Opens with the tipical Goutal citrus opening but it fades very fast. Then comes a natural vetiver that stay all the rest of the fragance with light floral and green notes. Too natural, well made and classic. Longevity is very good (more than 7 hours) and projection is low. scent: 7.5/10 longevity: 8/10 sillage: 4/10

This is the new Vetiver in EDC concentration. Being a fun of the EDT for years I was eager in trying this. Truthfully the scent is there and the unique accord that I had so much loved in the EDT is intact. A bit fresher of course with some of the darker aspects trimmed but still immediately recognizable from its sharp iodine opening and spicy heart. I grabbed a 200ml bottle and went away. While at the store I tried some other Goutals including Songes. When I reached home I took out the paper strips and arrayed them. Then I smelled again and in my surprise I mistook Vetiver for Songes. It seems that after an hour a short of white floral accord comes out of Vetiver. That was astounding since there is no white floral note included in the fragrance. I grabbed the EDT and test it too, the same thing happened. The white floral accord reemerged. In sum if you were a fun of the EDT and its feral, uncompromising beauty pull the trigger without hesitations.

Although Vétiver was part of the Les Colognes collection, I would not describe it as a cologne in the traditional sense of the word. In my opinion, the reference is less about the classic cologne structure and more about the fragrance’s lightness and radiant character. It creates an impression reminiscent of the moment when sunlight slowly dries sea salt on your skin after a swim in the ocean. The fragrance created by Isabelle Doyen is also exceptionally wearable. Moreover, despite being officially classified as unisex, I find that it carries a subtle masculine inclination — a slight but noticeable one. All of these elements contribute to my view that Vétiver is among the finest vetiver-based fragrances I have had the pleasure of discovering. It is particularly well suited for warm summer days, when its airy, fresh, and luminous character can truly shine. My rating: Recommended. (6/7)

Surprisingly straight raw vetiver in the opening , but the added salty/marine note that follows is quickly taking the lead. Fresh lemon is there to lift up the composition and herbs for an aromatic touch. The aquatic note is a bit challenging for me, as I don't like aquatics. The contrast between the smoky and spicy java vetiver and the ozonic, salty oceanic note is interesting, but not my style. The Different Company succeeded with Sel de Vetiver to pair salty notes with vetiver, but it's very different; that one smells of dried salty vetiver roots and Vetiver Cologne smells marine. After the first hour, it wears very light, almost untraceable. 7/10

A salty vetiver, with a touch of pepper. It smells natural and dry. In the first 10 minutes the salty notes make it a bit harsh, but don't worry, it will abate. Then, you will smell vetiver, and vetiver and vetiver. It's very polite sent and can be easily worn almost in any occasion. I have to say that it suits more on a mature and confidence man. I get decent performance from it. Its longevity on my skin is about 8 hours and projection is decent. I like it. Update: It's a nice scent, and get even better if it be worn on chest in the warmer months. Let the salty dried vetiver leaves to soak in sweat. They may get alive :)

AROMAntic! parte subito bene con un aroma di limone buonissimo,diluito,non agro che accompagna fino alla fine un vetiver da rasatura,ottimo,pulito. tutto si fonde benissimo addosso. fragranza leggera,ariosa,estiva.

Funny, I find it too feminine for a man to wear. I have this one on my left wrist right now, and Frederic Malle's "Vetiver Extraordinaire" on my right wrist, and I find the latter far more elegant and suitable for a man. This one dissolves after some time into an undefinable scent which hasn't much vetiver feel to it. Not recommended for someone who seeks a good vetiver fragrance, neither men nor women. **

Sorry, but this is so weak and such a shallow scent. I love EDC's, but this is silly. A very shallow vetiver in the beginning, then a decent citrus. 20 minutes and it's gone. Just go buy Tom Ford Grey Vetiver EDT.

This vetiver is a very plasent vetiver that its easy to wear and good for any occasion. It opens up with a citrusy vetiver floral note. It smells a bit like sprite with the vetiver note. I think its a buy and versatile for any moment.

this is the Goutal Eau de Cologne Vetiver, and not the Eau de Toilette Vetiver. The two are quite different (not just in concentration)

Were I to give this a Luca Turin-style two-word review, it would be "vinyl vetiver." That's all I got, folks.
