Eau de Gucci Concentree (1982)

Initially, I get almost pure hyacinth, with a smidge of Spanish cedarwood, with the cedarwood becoming more prominent as the drydown continues. I have a jar of hyacinth tincture I made from purple hyacinths picked from my yard, and this is almost spot-on. I haven't tried the reformulation, but the original is very pretty and a must-try for hyacinth lovers.

I had this, on a denim printed packaging with the Gucci ribbons, and I loved it. I would have sworn there was a carnation note on it, it was what I thought it was not knowing what notes it was supposed to have. Hyacinth and lilac, ok, maybe. But it was, flower fresh and somehow spicy, quite longlasting and just inherently very composed, somehow perfect for every ocasion.

I had this, wore it, and loved it. It was marketed for women-- not unisex as labelled here. Yes, it was a beautiful floral, but grounded so well that there were no high-pitched, fly-away notes. IMO, a "wearable" masterpiece.

(I have the rectangular pocket spray with the word concentree having an accent over the second 'e'). This is a beautiful perfume. After a few moments of initial spray on my inner elbow smell very similar to a Anais Anais by Cacharel's dry down (nod to @Kentington, whose review I only looked at after I began writing this review and noted the Anais Anais similarity). I believe I can detect all but a few of the notes. Thankfully for me the tuberose and hyacinth are neither loud nor cloying which would have steered me away. My takeaway: flowery, muted vanillic woods with a dollop of aldehydes that is the glue that holds it all together and keeps it sparkly. Very lovely and classy.

For the guys who might be interested in this one...while "unisex" certainly applies to perfume in general, and you should wear what you want and not worry about what labels go on things (blah blah)...this is VERY floral. Reminds me a great deal of Anais Anais, but instead of an almost salty lily note, it's the powdery hyacinth from Chamade with a sweetish dry-down. If green-powdery florals are your thing, then this one is your perfume...but if your idea of "unisex" is a variation on the classic citrus colognes, then you're probably not gonna like it.

The vintage one I have (comes in a dark plastic bottle) is pleasant, but reminds me very strongly of the smell of 80's, 90's hair salons. Whether it smells similar to hairspray or perming fluid I don't know, but it makes me think of bad teenage haircuts :(

The opening of this Eau de Gucci is so eccentric. There is a deep, pungent greenness to it, one that is not listed in the note pyramid. I'm most reminded of neroli or petigrain, ...neither listed, ...and even oakmoss ...also not listed. If I ignore this profound green note (the elephant in the drawing room), the rest of the notes mostly make sense. This does play like mixed spring florals (lilac, muguet, hyacinthe, etc), and indeed, those are all constucted accords that do possess green and watery elements, ...but usually they aren't blended THAT greenly. The drydown does become whitely floral, and the'vanille et santal' in the base also comes through. These become a saving grace for calming that deep green wave that leans toward a masculine chypre. In truth, this scent is so odd that I'm really enjoying sampling this vintage novelty, ...but would I fully wear it? Never say never, but I'd have to be in an odd mood on a late spring day.

this stuff is amazing, i have a full bottle and it smells just as good if not better than when i bought it, it is a rich deep fragrance that lasts a good 24 hours and that is only using a dab or 2(i decanted in a smaller glass bottle) i am not sure why there are no reviews for this but i would love to swap a few of my wants with someone. i have more fragrances than i have added to my have list mostly older scents. I will get a better review this week and breakdown the scent.

This perfume is beautiful- and it saddens me that it was so short lived, and that many have forgotten it, or confuse it with the far inferior 1993 reformulation. Maybe a fresh floral missed the zeitgeist by a decade, as we were heading into the 1980s powerhouses when this was launched. It is a wonderful lesson in how something can be floral, yet not cloying, pretty, without being soaked in vanilla, like so many current "pretty" scents.
