Chant d'Arômes Eau de Toilette

I'm reviewing from a bottle of the most recent release as it is pictured above. The overwhelming note in this perfume is unfortunately absent from the notes list on this page and is Aldehydes with a capital A. Of the hyper-aldehydic perfumes I know well (No 5, No 22, Jardin de Bagatelle, Iris Poudre, La Myrrhe) this stands out as perhaps the most aggressively, unapologetically clean and soapy of them all. This will do great harm to anyone who is not an aldehyde fan, although I personally find it less challenging than Iris Poudre or La Myrrhe simply because Chant d'Aromes smells inexplicably familiar. The image of a pristine, cold and wet bar of white soap best captures the opening 15 minutes. Chant d'Aromes is like an enormous, desperate gasp of mountain air in a bottle, the aldehydes push it into this state of "hugeness" and "vastness" which is really quite remarkable. Lurking underneath is an ethereal bouquet of decidedly chilly flowers, tinged with frost, cold and breathy. It's an abstract floral, quite green and not given easily to olfactory dissection - it's very beautiful though and not remotely shrill despite the apparent inclusion of several white florals (it's not too far from lily of the valley in terms of mood). The base does warm up a little bit, with a soft woody emanation which fades away into nothingness. There is only a very vague suggestion of vanilla, and this perfume is only very slightly sweet. This perfume doesn't, on me, linger as a skin scent for very long - it's an aldehydic EDT through and through. I love this scent and think it's one of the more worthy of the old Guerlains for rediscovery by a modern audience. Not remotely dated and utterly timeless, this scent can be worn by anyone because of how innocuously it smells like clean soap. Lasts on me for about 5 hours at most.

Gorgeous springy floral! Aldehydic. Green. Powdery. Vintage!!! Sparkling and clean, fresh and invigorating. I find hints of White Linen and no relation to more famous aldehydics like N°5, Caleche, Rive Gauche...there’s character like Ma Griffe and lightness like Givenchy III and YSL Y (the original, the 1960’s version). Smoothness later on brings it close to Arpege but only slightly; while it becomes creamier, it maintains a woody feel and the bright sharpness of the opening. It smells closer to Y once again while remaining different. Chant d’Arômes it’s a beauty all of its own, and as an edt, it shines like a diamond!

This is a pleasant scent. It starts off quite soapy but it is less aldehydic than the bee bottle version. Then it's a soft soapy jasmine that doesn't project much. I do detect some honeysuckle. However the slight spice of carnation is missing, which I liked in the older version. Still very nice, well blended, smooth, clean. Update: if I overspray this on my clothes the hint of carnation is there, which I love. Just wish this had more staying power. Another thought, this would be a good alternative for those who find chanel no. 5 too overbearing. It's a softer gentler cousin to no. 5.

This was my wedding perfume and I couldn't think of a better one to capture my spring wedding in a delicate silky white vintage dress, where we all stayed in a Dutch country manor house amidst the lush green meadows full of dandelions, with rooms from another era with big windows and thin white curtains, when finally the first spring days came and the sunrays broke through after months of rain. The only thing missing was a clawfoot bath tub, if you know what I mean. This is indeed the most lovely, vintage, clean, luxurious, white soapy scent. Bride in a bottle ;)

So, it’s soapy but it’s not. It has a powdery feel to it and thank god i barely feel the gardenia note. The honeysuckle is there, just like a whiff when you cross a fence covered in it. Got it at a very discounted price, blind, but love art first sniff. But that is because i love tangy powdery florals and i also don’t care if it’s marketed towards women. I will wear it!!
