Guess by Marciano for Men

I stumbled across this scent when I bought a sampler set of Guess colognes. It was one of five and turned out to be the one I enjoyed most and have bought ever since. I am new to this scent reviewing deal but I do not smell any cheapness in this scent. Alas, I am new to the game so read the following with that in mind. I get the following at the first blast: A spiced orange scent that is reminiscent of the orange scent you may pick up in orange flavored black tea. An exact orange tea smell? No, but when I read orange in cologne reviews I think a citrus scent that is in summer scents and this is NOT that kind of orange. It pretty much stays orange spice until it begins to dry and that is when I pick up leather. I am sure the other notes are there but to me I can only believe they soften the leather. The result is a fragrance that is refined enough for the office because it is restrained in it's projection and sensual enough close to the skin for intimate maneuvers in the dark. It should be noted that I am 47 years old and it works very well for me. It may be too mature for members of the Millennial Generation. I would use this in any season but summer (too spicy and too much of a juxtaposition of summer citrus scents). Bottom line if you need an almost year round scent for work or play and you can remember when MTV was not all suck ass reality shows but a collage of music videos from anyone who had one well buy this scent. Oh if you remember yelling at your kids to turn the MTV down it will work for you too!

I blindly bought this full 100ml bottle off someone online and my bottle does not say, "For Men" or "For Women". I figured it must be unisex and since I loved the notes, bought it. I love it, though it does have a slightly manly smell, I'm trying it layered with True Religion Love Hope Denim, which is a very circus sweet scent. They only appear to share one note (musk) but pair so nicely so far though I just sprayed it about 30 mins ago, as the Guess spice keeps the sweet TR a little grounded and adds some earthiness and depth. When I saw here this Guess edt is for men, I briefly considered giving it to my brother for Christmas, but these two go very well together so I may just keep this. Ladies, don't be turned off by finding out this is a man's perfume. Try it first.. it may surprise you. I'd say for women this is more of a fall/winter scent and may be too much for spring and summer when I'd bet the more masculine notes would shine, but others may disagree. It's winter here in Canada now and I can't imagine wearing this in the dead heat of summer, it would be too much for me. On a man, it would likely be divine in summer. There's something really sexy about this perfume. Though that sexiness would be more vigilant on a man in my opinion, I'm quite enjoying it on me on this Christmas day. It's conjuring thoughts of a man's bare chest in my head. 😄 Delicious! 😉

Ignore the reviewer below me. This cologne is far from disgusting, or maybe he experienced what happened to me. I bought this about 5 years ago and sprayed it a few times and didn’t really like it too much. I put it in my cologne cabinet and moved on to more modern fragrances. Fast forward to a few years after my purchase and one day I was getting into my elevator and there was this middle aged man already in the elevator. I began to smell this beautiful scent and I remember thinking holy crap this guy is wearing a gods scent. It was mysterious and fresh all in one. I’ve never stopped a man and asked him what he was wearing “ever”, but I did that day. He told me he was wearing a guess cologne, he couldn’t remember the name of it so I asked him to describe the bottle. After hearing the description I went back up my elevator and rushed to my home and sure enough, it was the cologne I tucked away years prior. After putting on about 5 to 7 sprays I was treated to this underrated gem. I’m not sure where my head was at when I first sprayed this.. Maybe men are like women, we need to be in the right headspace and mood before we put on a scent, emotional mood can make all the difference in life. I will definitely be buy another bottle. 8/10.

I am suprised by this one. The presentation, the aroma, far exceeding my expectations. This is my first cologne from the Guess house. In the past, I considered Guess to be the cheapie king. Pretty low end. But the Seductive line has been getting good reviews. And that is what drew my attention to this cologne. The packaging really stood out, so at a price of $22 CDN, i thought, why not? SO glad I did. It's hard to describe the pleasant, warm smell this gives. So cozy. And to be honest, the longevity and sillage, though not powerful, are completely acceptable. Yes, you'll probably respray at lunch, but this smells so nice, who cares? This is a great product. Guess is now on my radar, and that's cool, because thier prices are so reasonable.

Smells fresh, clean and young. It's the kind of scent you smell in a young adult, making his way through seriousness, professionalism and responsibilities. It's for guys in their twenties and early thirties, shaking off all their insecurities and beautifuly blossing maturity. This scent is not intrusive in any way, nor disgusting. It's fresh, clean and young. I thought it would smell cheap and sticky in warm weather, but for my surprise it's really refreshing and pleasant.

This is one of my favorite fragrances. The first 30 minutes it leaves a great spicy orange smell, then the citrus leaves gradually and a subtile vanilla smell takes its place and stays on for a couple hours. Whenever I wear this, people are asking me what fragrance I am wearing. This is perfect for a man in his twenties, from the 4h lecture in the afternoon to the 8 o'clock beer at the campus pub.

I don't get black pepper at all as others mentioned, the main note that I get is a creamy amber (So sweet to my taste) , so the scent reminds me so much of hypnose pour Homme. The scent changes at the drydown to leather plus black pepper and patchouli Edit :After testing it more, I do find it to be a pleasant scent that I do love

A spicy leather/Amber floral with enough orange to keep it fresh. Not overdone in the pepper, but just enough to grab your attention and distract from the sweetness. This to me is an amazing fragrance. I think the bottle design and packaging are very reflective of the scent... like a very fine cognac and leather jacket. Rawr!

This is a really good cologne, especially for the price. If you like spice/pepper in your cologne then you will like this. It’s kinda similar to Burberry London which is one of my favorite cologne’s. I don’t understand why this cologne has so many negative reviews.

this is cheap & value for money! surprisingly heavenly-good smell nice for everyday use for office. Recommended...recommended...recommended!! girls would waanna smell your arms or your pits! ;)

blind buy for me and very good one at that, very nice for evening as it has a good warm/sweet feel to it. i also work in a refrigerated warehouse so its great for work and office use.

Awesome scent which remind of my beloved Mark Cross now discontinued! Both are fantastic scents for the fall 🍂❤️

Beautiful fragrance. This is a hidden gem. So smooth and just a nice vanilla orangey ginger.

* Pleasantly warm sweet, spice, amber and fougere oakmoss aromas * Very akin to Dolce & Gabbana The One * Settles and gets better and richer the longer it sits on the skin * Very affordable * Layers extremely well with Guess 1981 Los Angeles * Soapy oakmoss aromas overwhelmingly dominate the opening and needs time to settle for the sweet spice aromas to come out * Virtually non-existent projection and sillage; becomes a skin scent practically immediately upon spraying * Much better spice forward colognes on the market in the Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb line and Dior Sauvage Elixir * Requires both overspraying and reapplying to a ridiculous degree, more than with other Guess fragrances I've used Guess by Marciano is a nice if a bit underwhelming cologne. The opening is an overwhelming soapy fougere oakmoss blast. It needs time to settle on the skin, but when it does it becomes a very warm and sweet scent with plenty of spicy amber that blends well with the softened oakmoss. Interestingly, when sprayed on clothing the soapy oakmoss stays a lot stronger so its definitely the body heat that helps change it on the skin. This will immediately remind you of Dolce & Gabbana's The One. It's practically a clone if I'm being honest, with pretty much the exact same aromas, performances and issue of weak performance. Like The One, Guess by Marciano essentially has no projection and sillage. It becomes a skin scent almost immediately upon spraying. All Guess colognes I've used have the same issue where the weak performance demands both overspraying and respraying throughout the day, but Guess by Marciano really takes the cake here and needs it the most. Given the very affordable discount level price, replenishing isn't an issue, though. As a bonus, it also layers extremely well with Guess's own 1981 Los Angeles cologne which has a strong vanilla-forward scent. Placing this in perspective, though, The One has the exact same issues and costs 3 to 5 times as much and so is much more expensive to use and replenish properly. I'd rather spend the money on Guess by Marciano. If a strong spice forward cologne is what you're after, though, then the Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb line and Dior Sauvage Elixir might be better buys though they are far more costly.

Guess Marciano opens with a warm sweet spice, mildly fruity but not bubble gummy, there's also a faint floral note that will morph into a powder after a few minutes. As it dries down the sweetness stays as does the warmth but the spice becomes more of a vanilla and the powdery note shifts towards a soapy variation. It carries an overall clean vibe that feels slightly more mature than your typical shower gel fragrance. I chalk that up to the spices staying faintly in the background throughout wear. When I first purchased this I was expecting something old school masculine and heavily spicy because that's how a lot of reviews described it, I found that is not the case. When I tried it fresh it was so generic and a dead on typical teen freshy that I thought to myself did they reformulate this or were these other guys just blowing smoke? Every subsequent try resulted in the same puzzled reactions as it smelled similar to Mont Blanc Legend, then Hanae Mori HIM, then sharing notes with Invictus, to again returning to that generic teen freshy smell. I decided to let it sit a while and it's finally starting to smell like it's own fragrance and I can detect a spicy accord growing. It definitely still shares notes with Mont Blanc Legend and HIM, there's no doubt about that, but I feel like Guess Marciano is one of those fragrances that you absolutely need to let age and open up into it's true notes. I'm looking forward to see how this smells after a year of letting it sit.

This is my fall/winter day scent to work. It is not too strong, not offensive and it have a warm side, probably because of the pepper, that make it perfect for cold day. I wouldn t wear it at night, i don t think it is strong enought. It smell like a pepper/orange (mandarin) mix to me with some spices. It is a very special kind of scent for me. You know just the ok scent, with average sillage and longevity, that has nothing special about it, but that make you feel good when you wear it. I got it at a discount price, so I take 2 bottles :) Here is the score: Smell: 6,5/10, not a great scent, but this one make me feel confortable. Longevity: 3,5/5. Last about 5 hours. Projection: 3/5. Notice by a few only, arm lenght, but not a compliments guetting scent. Versatility: 3/5. For cold day, mayble some nights or specials occasions. Overall: 16/25. Try it first. I wouldn t suggest to blind buy, their is better choice for that price IMO.

This is a good blind buy if you want a perfume that smells dark, spicy, warm, masculine and very sweet. It's suitable for a casual or semi-formal night date. It has a strong amber with a hint of citrusy note in the opening. Quite headache-inducing for me. But after some time, it dries down to a powdery note with a hint of muskiness at the base. Not suitable for daylight use, in my opinion. As a young adult, i do feel like this perfume smells too mature for me, but i can get away with it. I know some people love this smell. It's sexy, sweet and warm. It gives you this mysterious energy. Projection is moderate-to-intimate, sillage is intimate, but longevity is nice. For a perfume that's under $30, i don't think i need to complain much. Especially since this perfume doesn't smell like everyone. Just don't expect it to smell fresh out of the shower. It doesn't.

Not a bad fragrance. Its a mix of Boss Bottled and D&G The One, but with a little extra spice. It is sweet yet still undeniably masculine. It's Autumn at the moment here in Australia, and I'm finding it just fits the season so well. The performance is not amazing but after 4-5 hours you'll still get a light whiff to remind you that its still there. Ideal if you just want something that isn't going to draw too much attention but still give off a pleasant scent up close. I have a 50ml bottle and find it convenient to keep in the glove box or throw in my bag for an easy top up re-spray. Just a nice all-round, easy to wear, casual fragrance. For such low price you really can't go wrong.

100mL for $24 on FragranceNet makes this a crazy good deal. This is a lot more similar to Ferrari Man In Red, Boss Bottled, and Eternity Flame than it is The One. It serves kind of that warm ginger/amber role and is a nice cheap alternative to The One situationally; just don't go into it thinking it will be the same. This one is pretty versatile and would make a good day or night scent in fall or winter. It's probably not a re-buy because I have more options that I prefer and just won't reach for this, but it's up a solid buy for most. The performance on this was around 5-6 hours. It tapers off quick. It's still my favourite option for cheap date night fall scents though.

I bought it coz my wife love Guess for Female by Marciano. This is a classic barbershop scent. Longevity is crazy long, I still can smell the scent after washing my shirt. However, it's sillage and performance is moderate for the first 4-5 hours and then afterwards becomes very close to skin (maybe 3-5 inches from skin) for the rest of its longevity (20 hours+). I agree by the comments that Guess Marciano for Man is a safe fragrance, but with it's longevity comes other benefits. I used this as base layer for other fragrance, its longevity carries other woody, tobacco, floral and leather fragrance to last longer. Even citrusy scent lasts longer as the second layer.

Received a sample from Fragrance X, and I liked it well. I can see their description of a "woody oriental" as it does conjure images of an eastern spice market. It's moderately sweet. I don't get a burst of fresh citrus so much as warm honeyed liqueur. The dry down is smooth, and the patchouli is evident but not overwhelming. The lavender is also present but mild. It's perhaps a little on the masculine side to be truly unisex, but as an evening scent it could work for anyone (except someone really young as it's a bit mature). If you're looking for something mildly dark, romantic, and warm but also quietly sweet, I would suggest sampling this.

I'm really, really enjoying this one. This is a nice one to go into the fall time with. A very nice, subtly spicy, amber/orange one that is inoffensive and soft to the nose that, I personally find myself sniffing it over and over throughout the day. This is a good one to have, more so because it is so cheap these days. You can't go wrong with this one. As for the age group, I'd lean more on the 25+, maybe 30+ The season, Fall time. It's not for the teens in my opinion. I do wish this would last longer though, then again, the price you pay, you can afford to spray on again later in the day.

A nice cheapie – spicy/warm/woody/ambery sweet , and I like it. Short-lived, but it will give a strong sillage the first couple of hours before fading to skin. Most young teenagers I’ve interacted with liked this scent and gave some funny comments which I took as compliments – a girl claims it “smells like a delicious waffle”; on a separate ocassion, one boy says it smells “expensive”. I finished a couple of bottles of this before joining here, and bought another one for my father since he likes it, too. An enjoyable scent, especially for the price ($20-$25/100ml). Hence, the thumbsup.

This is a fragrance I've been using for years, especially during the fall and winter. I really like the scent – it's pleasant, slightly sweet. I mainly wear it to work because it's not overpowering and doesn't fill the room. It projects at a short range but has good longevity, which is great for everyday use. One of my favorites for winter and autumn. Here in Brazil, it's hard to find and relatively expensive. But I usually bring it from the U.S. It's important to mention that the sealing on the Guess spray valve is defective – it tends to leak.

I bought a bottle of Guess by Marciano recently and wore it today. Here are my thoughts: Spray is fairly strongly "perfumey" with a significant warm/spice aspect (cinnamon?). As it fades, perfumey/floral/fruit notes remain, slight wood and musk notes appear, and just a whiff of spice remains. Scent fades fairly dramatically after about an hour. Not horrible or offensive, but not my favorite--too perfumey and a little too sweet for my tastes. 5/10 (This is my first review here! I'm enjoying this site and it's great to join in the community.)

This smells like Boss Bottled or Boss Bottled Intense. This has a big vanilla aroma but has a little bit more fruit in the mix, probably the star fruit. Overall this is just like Boss Bottled Intense but maybe not as spicy with the cinnamon. Marciano takes a more smooth and vanillic direction overall. I think this would be good for a man of any age and a safe blind buy if you like sweeter vanilla types of fragrances. I'm very glad I tried this! This is a very good fragrance to me!

Im really shocked to read that some of yall say it doesn't last long.. this is one of my top 5 colognes that actually do stay on.. I work 12 hours outside and I live in texas so its really hot.. and it stays on all day even longer on a cold day.. maybe yall got a old one or a knock off.. carefull buying online such as ebay, amazon ect. Make sure the numbers match the bottom of the bottle and bottom of box.. hope this helps

It's a nice scent , Elegant , Classy and Sophisticated. It opens up with fresh spicy, green and floral notes in the background then dry down is Woody Spicy. If you like Dolce &Gabbana The One EDT and Davidoff Silver Shadow EDT, you will like this one. This is perfect for the spring and fall. Longevity is good. I really enjoy it and I like Guess by Marciano EDT for Men. Thumbs Up. Rating : 8 / 10

True, very similar to D&G The one, but much weaker and this is more for everyday use. This one was released long before so thumbs up for it. I liked the gold and bronze idea since while I was walking I smelled it on my wrist and thought... this has the smell of a coin! How random, isn't it? It's sweet and friendly but has a very very very low projection. Still very nice for its price.

On the initial spray you get a spicy burst and yes, it is synthetic, but it has a great peppery/amber aroma. Vanilla kicks in a half hour later and then it starts to die down, just like some reviewers say, it has a short life or it is close to the skin. I like it, it's a not so sweet peppery amber scent. It sort of reminds me a bit of Ricci's Memoire D'Homme which is a bit airy.

I blind bought this one about 5 years ago, and I still hold the same opinions about it now as I did back then....it smells like potpourri. It starts off strong with orange, pepper, ginger, and violet. After 2 hours its spicy pepper and synthetic flowers. Its really a shame because it would be a good cologne if it weren't for the synthetic flower/potpourri smell.

If you’ve ever smelled Juicy Couture ‘Dirty English’ and Dolce & Gabbana ‘The One’ it smells similar but more sweet smelling.. like this one would be for boys and D&G The One would be for men is that makes sense.. I haven’t worn this cologne in about 9 years and I wore it the other day and I forgot how good this smells especially during the winter!!

Very nice juice. Reminds me of Dunhill Pursuit - but this, I think, is nicer. It's warm, smooth, sweet and spicy. The orange is noticeable, as is the amber. The dry down is a sweet lovely floral/spicy scent. The Longevity and silage are both moderate. In a lovely amber glass bottle too. This is a good fragrance at a good price.

Solid spicy "date night" cheapie. I agree with Nevashiva below that it smells like male cologne. Like generic male cologne. Like the label on the bottle should literally say "male cologne". But it still smells pretty good. I get mainly spice, and woods. Lasts about 6-8hrs for me with almost no projection after the first hour.

Blindly bought this fragrance. While I was not disappointed with it, It definitely is not one of my favorites. It is a very sugary but spicy dark scent. Smells great when you are outside during the fall or winter, but other than that it just feels out of place to me. Definitely a bold smell while it lasts.

Great bottle, nice golden color but in terms of scent, "the emperor has 'no cloths'". It one of those fragrances I'd really like to like.The listed "notes" are so elegant, but not much olfactory substance to experience. Alas. I doubt we're going to see any "clones" of this.

Nothing special on this one,its clean yet safer choices ,ginger orange vibe,fresh yet versatile,reminds me of hugo boss,longevity was around 2-3 hours,then becomes skin scent,i love wearing this on hot summer days,its 6/10 overall.

Guess smells like a cheap mix of D&G The One, CH men and Bentley Intense. All of which are better but it's a solid value nonetheless. For $10 more you could buy Bentley Intense.

This is a solid cheapie. nice and spicy. i love how well blended everything is. this is versatile for the fall and winter. almost a chocolate vibe from this.

As a woman I would not wear this myself as it’s too generic old-school men’s after shave. On a man, it’s safe, clean, green, good for day. But boring.

Yet another delicious sweet scent. It is not similar to DG the one and i dont know how Rocawear is. I like it and ll add 2 my collection soon.

This is pretty nice. Theres something about this fragrance that makes me really thirsty. Part of it screams summer part of it screams winter.

Spicy black pepper on a plain woody background. Decent scent, nothing special. "Like" & pass.

Like all Guess fragrances this is average

First Pass - Sweet. Fruity. 1 Hour Later - Still sweet and fruity. Some spices. A little powder. A little ginger. Maybe some wood 2 Hours Later - Sweet fruit has dissipated. Still slightly powdery, wood has swelled. Spicy and gingery. Build lists mandarin, bergamot, cardamom, black pepper, amber and wood notes Overall - To me, this toes the line between typical woody/amber colognes and oriental/spicy fragrances. Enough wood notes to feel masculine but spicy enough to give an Oriental twist. I think the average nose will find this an interesting take on a familiar profile. ***Scents, like tastes, are subjective. Wear what you like***

It is D&G The One EDP with some spicy twist in the opening. After ten minutes, in the air, it gets very close to D&G The One EDP on your wrist. DONOT smell up close from the wrist. You will find it quite spicy. Just like D&G The One, performance is not that good, still better than D&G. Price is the deciding factor as you will get it in less than half the price of D&G, so be liberal with sprays. I found it qualifying for all season signature scent for many. For those who like The One EDP, it should be 9.5/10 for them.

Initial spray is very generic in the grand scheme of fragrances but there seems to be a very strong musk presence that I wasn’t expecting. It’s not exactly unattractive but it’s a bit too reminiscent of BO for my liking... underneath the more flattering notes there’s this metallic, “just left the gym” murmur that’s disrupting my nose. I’ll wear it a bit more and see how it evolves.

Is it bad? Definitely not. Does it blow me away? Definitely not. It's nice scent, maybe a bit generic. Overall a safe office wear but nothing special or very interesting in my opinion.

Something went terribly wrong on my skin with this scent. I wanted to blind buy this for a long time but could never bring myself to do it and on a whim I found a 1.7 oz bottle at my local discounter for $15 and grabbed it. Ideally after reading many reviews on it, this scent seemed to suit my preference. Lavender, amber, pepper, ginger, and leather. Mmmmm, what a mouthwatering breakdown! Oddly, when I sprayed it on my skin, it was spicy, somewhat vanillic, and definitely warm but wow, there was something that literally smelled like spoiled cabbage after it settled. I'm a fan of literally everything but this fragrance had me gagging hanging on for dear life as I jumped in the shower to scrub off this animal! I was repulsed. So what do I do after a shower? I sprayed it on my hand and arm again and once again I turned green. What's odd is that I pick up the small hints of leather surrounded by a warm amber and fresh lavender but in all that beauty lies a stench I cannot bring myself to tolerate. I'm sure it was my skin. These reviews here are all spot on but my story is the only one with rotten vegetables. It's definitely modern and great for fall but sillage and longevity are some of the worst I've encountered. It was so easy to wash off ! All I had to do was run water over it! Seriously, it didn't work for me but maybe it'll work for you.

This is my first review so bare with me... I really wish this smelled better. The performance seems ok or better. I put 4 small spritzes on (small because the atomizer is trash) several hours ago before i left the house. Even on the bus, through my mask, I can still smell it, so the longevity for the $25 CAD I spent is definitely decent at least But it's just so "ugh" or at the very best, "meh". I don't pick up any good, discernable notes, just this very synthetic almost dollar store musky incense mixed with possibly cheap coffee & a few other things I can't put my finger on. Again, for the price, the longevity is very impressive, but lol, with it smelling as it does (at least on my skin), I'd much rathered it fell off a long time ago.
