Dark Chocolate

This fragrance is a beautifully blended. I would never, ever have expected such a complex and layered journey from a chocolate perfume. The top notes open with a refreshing burst of cardamom, grapefruit, and mandarin. The cardamom brings an aromatic depth, while the grapefruit introduces a bright freshness and the mandarin offers a lively, sweet and almost effervescent quality to the perfume. Bright, uplifting, sweet and clean. Absolutely lovely. As the fragrance develops, the middle notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, jasmine, and anise combine in the most delicious way. The dark chocolate and cocoa feel velvety, while a soft floral jasmine peeks through. The anise adds an intriguing fennel and licorice-like accord, that brings to mind a delicious sambuca. Finally, the base notes settle into a warm, powdery amber, slightly sweet labdanum and vanilla as well as a sensual musk. The vanilla lends a soft sweetness that blends seamlessly with the musk, creating a dry down that is both powdery and skinlike. The result is a fragrance that is wonderfully layered—starting bright and zesty, evolving into a rich, chocolatey heart, and finishing with a warm, powdery musk. Despite its chocolatey heart, the scent remains clean and bright throughout, lingering sensually on the skin.

I was not expecting a fragrance this complex. I got it because.....duh.....I’m a chocoholic. I figured this would make a great layering fragrance. I have Choco Musk, and use that for layering. But I figured a dark chocolate scent would be even nicer. This is one of those rare fragrances that you can actually detect all of the individual notes without them clashing. The grapefruit and cardamom play together so richly against the chocolately cocoa notes with a beautiful kick of spiciness. And the musky vanilla ties it all together. I really do think this would be wearable all year long, and that it’s going to have different personalities depending on the season. And I know it’s going to layer very nicely with some of my other gourmand perfumes. If you like gourmand scents, and if you like chocolate, this is going to be a very safe blind buy. It’s perfectly unisex in my opinion. So get it, and have fun!

This perfume is stunning, sublime and sexy. The most delicious, decadent scent I ever have in my collection. I love the bright opening of sweet cardamon. It is well blended and smells uber pricey. I'm blown away 🌪🤤🥰

A big positive surprise, I kept skipping every chance to meet him because the name didn't promise me anything, but today I got a sample and I was delighted. There is chocolate, but nothing unpleasant for the perfume, the mandarin also comes through, and I don't smell anything specific, but the combination that raised this perfume so much that if you didn't know what it was made of, you would enjoy every breath. This year I discovered a lot of perfumes from Gulf Orchid and I thank them because they really made me happy.

I smelled this without knowing the perfume name and i would've thought this is a woody amber fragrance. however when you do know the name it becomes clear =) you cant really go wrong with chocolate and orange! and a powerful jasmine vanilla mix.

I am sorry to be the first one disliking this fragrance so far, but Dark Chocolate by Gulf Orchid has issues. It used to have a very alcoholic opening blast that lasted a minute or two but now that it "matured" or whatsoever for 2 months it's gone. What immediately hits my nostrils is musk, like a lot of it, I don't know if I got a bad batch or if I'm too sensitive to it, but the musk here nearly overpowers the rest of the notes and it makes the experience wholly unpleasant to me. Performance is meh too, lasted 4 hours on my skin max and it was a skin scent almost immediately. Pass. EDIT: I tried it again today (19/04/2025), still this funky musky vibe, my girlfriend says it smells like cocoa scented shower gel (???) but she likes it , I really hate it. EDIT2: Tested again today (08/06/25), no alcoholic opening anymore, still has this weird chocolate-musk combo I really dislike, the smell hasn't changed much, it's a bit stronger now, I'd say it pushes to 5 hours now. It smells exactly like a shower gel I recently bought which is called "Chocolate".

After almost a whole damn year this finally somewhat smells like its pyramid implies. I put an old review on here with some updates. It's 70/30 orange and chocolate in the opening. Then it smells like a chocolate infused shower gel, pretty meh still.

I eagerly anticipated the arrival of Gulf Orchid "Dark Chocolate" only to feel disappointment. Upon applying the fragrance on skin, the first 15-20 minutes deliver an overwhelming alcohol carrier note that is downright harsh and unpleasant. The fragrance eventually develops with BARELY detectible, milk chocolate notes and a large amount of tart, mandarin orange. If I concentrate, I detect a very faint, floral-jasmine note that seems misplaced with the chocolate and cocoa accord. I get zero cardamom (a note I love) and no anise, etc. The perfume is barely detectable despite spraying and over-spraying. Based on the experience of others, I'm wondering if I got a counterfeit. Disappointing, to say the least. But I'll see how it goes with additional applications...

No huele a lo que promete, definitivamente pruebenlo antes de comprarlo. Luego de 1 mes de maceración: En la salida sí huele a una mandarina no tan cítrica con chocolate, y cardamomo que lo hace un poco atalcado y suave, a los pocos minutos comienza a dominar el cacao con especias de muy mala calidad o algo similar (lo típico que da el "olor a perfume árabe"), no huele a chocolate amargo y menos con naranja. Es un olor muy oriental y maduro, aunque unisex. Lo "bueno" es que dura y proyecta bastante, pero es un olor muy invasivo por el exceso de especias de baja calidad.

I don’t like to down fragrances because scent is subjective. My taste isn’t everyone’s taste and that’s okay. That disclaimer out of the way, when I first sprayed my 2ml tester on a paper strip, I thought I had been sent dirty dishwasher. I don’t detect any notes that would signal what the fragrance is going for. I can’t understand its direction. Without this site’s and Paris Corner’s note breakdown, I seriously couldn’t tell you despite sniffing my tester. I can’t in good conscience encourage buying or sampling DC.

This is a very rich, heavy amber-y perfume. It has chocolate and orange in the opening and you get that but the dry down is giving something that reminds me of car dashboard polish. I tried it several times but it just wasn't meant to be.

Maybe it just needs more time to macerate... but as it stands, Dark Chocolate is nowhere near what the name or note breakdown promises. As a gourmand guy, I was genuinely excited for this, the idea of a rich, indulgent chocolate scent had me sold. Unfortunately, what I got was a powdery, bitter mess that barely hints at anything edible, let alone chocolate. There’s nothing creamy, sweet, or inviting here. The only thing “dark chocolate” about this fragrance is the sharp, almost unpleasant bitterness that dominates the entire wear. No warmth, no depth, just a dry, chalky scent that smells more like expired cocoa powder than a dessert. It could be that my bottle needs more time to settle, but at this point, I’m left feeling completely let down because the performance is not great either. I wanted something decadent and comforting but instead, I got something that feels harsh, flat, and frankly disappointing. Beautiful bottle though I’ll give it that. 2/10

Ok so I love anything with chocolate especially fragrance and this one is another beautiful one Start on first spray for me I can only described as hot dark chocolate covered with juice tangerine that makes my mouth watering I don’t smell any alcohol and for the first day has a great performance it last on my clothes about 6 hours projection on first 3 hours and I can smell my skin for at least 4 hours as we all know the middle eastern fragrance need to sit down for a while before the become a beast but I’m already satisfied and price so affordable I got a second bottle just in case. If you have Quissa delicious this is not the same because of the tangerine orange note that is very present you would love this
