Halston Man

this review is coming from a lady i actually like the male version of this halston more than the female version..a beautiful crisp citric yet long lasting invigorating deep mellow..how? how can a citrousy perfume be deep and last ..oh well Carlos did it.. i cant have enough smelling my hand its just so inovegrating ..so mesmerising..its full of bright crisp lemon lime basil citrousy notes bergamont mint in a background of mint labdenum musk with a passionate heart of passion fruit which makes it so subtle relaxing sophisticated . it smells like chanel egoist platinum the brightness of it but haslton to me has a deeper more profound character a truly innovative combination of notes..that will leave everyone wondering where this beautiful smell is coming from its also sensual in a way its easily can be used by both genders ..perfect for layering..an office scent ..a day out even a date perfume or a night out with friends its a perfume for all seasons all occasions..a just had a shower freshens with a deeper lighter muskiness as in silver musk its not so woods y but the patchulie gives it that extra dimension mellows everything down without the utter dirtiness of patchulie or musk its a clean crisp bright almost sweet in a dry sort of way .. i don't know why but i am in love with this perfume its the epitamy of masculinity ..old school with a modern touch ..its the kind of scent that makes you want to fall in love all over again just to smell it on that special someone.. halstone does great fragrances to me they are niche in affordable prices that last forever and smell great with a huge silage and are still decent they are not vulgar or so crazy that you cant wear them they are just simple truly beautiful scents that are so hard to find these days thy still smell some what natural and have an old school vibe to them in a modern way...i wish they were more available everywhere..it also reminds me of the citrucines of diors au sauvage

I have wanted this ever since I read the notes when it was released last year but could not find it anywhere. It is available on the EA website in an EDT concentration in the 125 ml size only for 75.00 USD...and well worth it! A doctor friend of mine's wife got it for him and it's like they took the original 80s releases and turned them inside out and added a sweet freshness to them without affecting the overall masculinity. The initial spray is dreamy as the passionfruit/citrus is tempered with the dry green tarragon. The overall aura is manly but restrained, the lavender and mint, so common in men's frags is augmented by the aquatic spiciness of the cardamom (it smells so much different than it tastes; the cardamom-not the cologne!)The base is rich with labdanum and patchouli and the musk is very clean. All in all this is a fitting modern remake of the very manly man originals. The platinum coloured bottle is just beautiful... Sillage: good Longevity: splendid Overall: 4.5/5 If Halston (RIP?) had made more scents like this he might still be a more respected name in the Industry as opposed to a mass-market staple at the discount stores. This is the first men's scent EA has released since the classic Arden Men Sandalwood in 1959, and it's worth searching out!

Very Well Done! Halston brought Z-14 to the Modern era. This juice is fresh and clean, I love it. Hard to find bought mine off ebay w/ free shipping for half of retail. Dark woody clean scent, just got rid of my Z-14, this is it's permeant replacement. 10/10

I also BB'd this from the TJMaxx for $12.99... I love HM Amber, so why not? Well, it is quite a different thing altogether. I've never smelled any masculine fragrance like this- there is something at work in the top notes that reminds me of walking into an upscale housewares shop like Williams-Sonoma or Pottery Barn. A strong potpourri-like scent, perhaps the result of combining passionfruit, citrus, and artemisia? Cinnamon is not listed, but it is definitely lurking in there. Well, it's not bad, certainly unique- makes you want to keep smelling it again and again because 1) its a comforting, calming scent, and 2) you've just never smelled something quite like these combination of notes in a men's EDT before. So, even if you don't love it, it won't be redundant in your collection or be a clone of anything else! It dries down pretty well, and after 20-30 minutes you are left with a spicy, warm, masculine scent. Longevity is average, becoming a skin scent not long after the dry down. Overall, I enjoy it. It's something different from the run-of-the-the mill designer colognes. Good for cooler days, perhaps at the office. Definitely good for a cozy night at home or on a hot date.... Just don't apply this right before you're going to Crate and Barrel. No one will be able to smell you there.

Let me just start out by complimenting the awesome bottle. Along with Halston Man Amber, it's one of the very best looking designs IMO. Looks fantastic on the shelf, regardless of its content -- which thankfully is also pretty good. The opening is a bit sweet and sharp at the same time, but not in an unpleasant way. But the dry down is where it's at with this one. There is a certain odd interplay of notes at work -- but a bitter artemisia and a deepish musk pulls it all together into something that is all at once soapy, slightly bitter and super clean. Not something I'd go to every day, but it's a fine example of a classic chypre/fougere(?) refined for a more modern sensibility. Halston Man reminds me of a a certain kind of classic 80's powerhouse -- going off distant memory, I would guess something like a Polo Sport or that soapy opening salvo of New West. In any case, Halston Man seems like a nod to the classics, but without all that hairy chested 80's excess screaming out. Longevity is solid -- 6-8 hours on my skin is pretty good. Projection is between arm's length and 6', depending on light/heavy application. Sillage is above average, as it seems to drag through the air as you move about. Quality punches in well above its price point IMO. Solid like.

This is such a great scent, I really wish the ORIGINAL was available instead. Anybody who's read my reviews will already know how I feel about the Arden company, and will probably be thinking "Dude just shut up" lol but today, I found two fantastic scents at only to find out they're in the Arden production line, so I don't trust them. Not happy. So about the scent; initial spray has a very subtle citrus dominance but accompanied but masses of musk. Now the patchouli and labdinum have become very obvious and playful. Is that passionfruit? I can't quite smell it, but either that, the mint or the lavender are giving are very soft side to the heart that the fragrance probably wouldn't do without. This scent is romantic, casual, a definite autumn/winter smell. Oh and to all having trouble, David Jones in Sydney is where I found this smell.

Halston man has a metalic, herbal quality with fresh top notes and quite a curious mixture of accords...it smells okay, not great or even good... just okay. The citrus opening is sharpened further by labdanum which gives way to a gentle musk and patchouli in the base. My tastes just won't allow me to subscribe to this one, I suspect it would maybe grow on me after several wears. Amber is a better fragrance for me but they both suffer from poor longevity on my skin.

Metallic, artificial opening. Drydown is a nice woodsy/citrus/lavender that retains some artificiality. Smells like cheap cologne with something weird and different on top. Decent projection, meh longevity, and I got a cheap-feeling nozzle but it could have just been my bottle.

The bottle is the best thing about this - the chrome treatment is an effective way to retain the form of the Peretti bottle while adding some modern glamour. If only as much care had been taken with the actual fragrance. It has a dry spicy quality that is more interesting than appealing. It's definitely not a clone of a typical masculine, so that's something, I guess. It doesn't really have any of the richness or depth of the original Z-14, and one would be hard pressed to find any commonality between the two, despite the press release discussion of Halston Man as a modernized version of Z-14. I'm adding this review as I've just discovered a new aspect to this argument - I've always avoided the current reformulation of Z-14, knowing that it's nothing like the original, but I had the opportunity to sample it tonight and I realized that it is in fact quite similar to Halston Man - there's the same spicy dryness, though I don't think Halston Man presents the same degree of Big Red cinnamon gum effect. The only problem with this theory is the launch of Halston Man is noted as 2009 and the Z-14 transition seems to have happened around 2011-2012. So was Z-14 brought in line to match Halston Man? Only Elizabeth Arden knows for sure...

Stumbled upon a bottle of this for $12.99 at TJ Maxx tonight. The opening is as others have said here--sharp, bright citrus with minty and herbal undertones. Heart notes remind me of Halston Z (the frosty purple bottle). Definitely some familiar DNA in there. So far, so good. It's fresh enough to wear in spring/summer, especially as a nighttime fragrance. The drydown is spicy, a touch dark, but not heavy or cloying. My initial impression is good. Maybe very good. Possibly excellent. Imagine Kenneth Cole Vintage Black (soapy, boozy) meets Chanel Platinum Egoiste (metallic, herbaceous). Not too shabby :)

I picked this up at Marshalls for a song... I love man amber, so, I figured what the heck.. well it has no resemblance whatsoever. This is fruity, spicy, and green. For a while I was stumped, what did this remind me of?? Then it dawned on me.. Muglers B*men ! It is nearly the same. The passion fruit note is replaced by the rhubarb note in b*men, and halston is a little sweeter, but they are 95% the same. If green spicy fruit is your thing, go for it, it is good, and somewhat unique..

Interesting. To the untrained nose, the opening smells a bit like Lava soap, which is not a bad thing, but it mellows out nicely to become a handsome, versatile aromatic. The scent is fairly light so I have to spray heavily to get much projection. Inoffensive and quite wearable, I will get plenty of use from this release in the fall.

As most others, I picked this little gem up at TJ Maxx... WIthout getting long winded, the best way I can describe this, is that it is a Modern take on the original Z-14.. at least to my nose.. It smells classic masculine WITHOUT smelling "Old Man" ... Perfect for cooler weather and preferably for the 30 and up crowd.

I really wanted to like this, but while it is a nice fragrance it wasn’t for me. Perhaps this is a biased opinion considering I prefer amber, Although Halston Amber Man seems to be more attractive and full of life. I found Halston Man to be quite subtle overall.

I have just purchased some of this for my partner and it is superb. It has more class and depth than a lot of other mid cost men's fragrances in my opinion. Definitely worth trying if you can locate a bottle.

Immediately I envisioned a very aromatic unsweetened iced tea. 1 hour later, and yep - still getting the same thing. It's perfectly subdued and lovely - a great scent for a summer day.

Suit and tie fragrance for the night time. Blended well. Smells like leather, a bit of wood mixed with like a citrus and some sort of metal. Worth a try. A solid scent, masculine.

Had this bottle some years now...not talked about much...underated I guess...still pretty nice! Modern touch of an old school classic..

Somewhere between unpleasant and mediocre to me. Got this as a gift, tried it a couple times, will probably never wear it again.
