straordinario ma assai difficile, questo profumo ormai fuori produzione nella sua formulazione originale, è per me un archetipo di bellezza poco accessibile. ho trovato per caso un tester dal mio pusher personale di profumi, che per sbarazzarsene me lo ha venduto ad un prezzo ridicolo. e poichè ne avevo letto come di una meraviglia l'ho preso al volo! ed effettivamente di meraviglia si tratta: un profumo astrattissimo e dicotomico, in cui le primissime sensazioni "sporche" di erba terrosa si smorzano presto su un effetto legnoso-floreale di raro equilibrio, trasfigurandosi infine su uno skin-scent lievemente dolce. non cito nessuna delle note della piramide semplicemente per il fatto che non si distinguono: qui siamo alla sintesi perfetta in cui non solo i singoli componenti non hanno alcun senso da soli ma acquisiscono valore nella totalità della sensazione olfattiva, ma anche per il fatto che l'evoluzione della sua percezione nasce da una iniziale sgradevolezza piacevole (non so descrivere meglio di così l'esperienza sensoriale che ne deriva) per assestarsi su un odore quasi innocente, che richiama vagamente il talco da bambini. come molti ritengono anche secondo me questa fragranza è assai simile al musc ravageur di malle, ma qui l'effetto complessivo è ancora più astratto e, per me, decisamente superiore. ottimo.

Not a fan of vanilla orientals and not a fan of baby powder scents, but this is one I can get behind. This could be a distant cousin to Shalimar and Prada Homme, and there is something about this that is cozy, familiar and comfortable. More smooth and soft than sweet, this will remind you of something you can’t quite put your finger on, and maybe this is part of it's charm. This is a clean smelling mellow musk that is not my taste at all, but this one works for me, maybe because it is nothing like anything I usually wear. I get zero flowers and almost no woods, this is 100% vanilla infused with lavender and it is quite beautiful and completely unisex and wears like a second skin. There is also a distinct animalistic note deep in this somewhere. Very hard to describe, but it’s what gives this an edge. I know this signature by Helmut Lang has a rabid cult following and I got extremely lucky and found a vintage pure perfume for a steal on line. I’ll appreciate this one for those special occasions. Rabid cult following now completely understood.

It's definitely easy to see Roucel's journey from this to Labdanum for LL to Musc Ravageur. Perfectly unisex skin-scent. The Le Labo has a bit more of an animalic "breath" to it, and MR feels like this structure pumped up on steroids (and with a noteable civetty presence). L de Lolita feels like the "beach" version of this scent. The sultry "used bedsheets" story that was supposedly the brief for this scent feels apropos. There is a soft, starchy feel to the aromatic lavender combined with the heliotrope and coumarin notes and a lovely human warmth in the well-behaved but definitely present musks/light animalics. Light enough to be worn any time but substantial enough to make an impression as it melds with the wearer's skin. I do have what I believe is an older parfum version--it smells more or less the same as the original EDP, if perhaps a little less diffuse.

This scent brings back lots of memories for me. My Yiayia (grandma) wore this perfume when I was a child, and recently I found some of it in her cabinet and it’s genuinely one of the best perfumes I think I might ever come across in my life. This is sheer perfection in a bottle. Is it powdery? Yes, but it’s so beautifully blended that it comes across as an elegant, put together, and graceful note, and to me it’s not overpowering. The scent is quite mature, a little too mature for my age, however, I hope that they make the very wise decision to bring back this scent because I would wear this for the rest of my life if I could.

For his namesake fragrance, Helmut Lang supposedly instructed Maurice Roucel to evoke the odor of his lover’s sweat. Mission accomplished, I'd say! This EDP does smell organically human, but also lived-in, comfortable, cuddly, sensual. Echoes of lavender and rosemary—remnants of his lover's cologne—are balanced atop a sweet, creamy musk with just a hint of something dirty at its core. To me, this is a fragrant abstraction of a lazy weekend, a morning after, a rainy day spent reading inside. ETA: Wearing this tonight (05.07.20), I came to a realization—Chanel’s Boy has a dry-down that’s strikingly similar to Helmut Lang EDP.

Before Escentric Molecules, there was Helmut Lang EDP... I love this perfume so much that, without realising at the time, it became my signature scent. I have the original EDP from 2000, which does not smell like much at first spray. However, it warms beautifully on the skin and diffuses throughout the day into a permanent state of being. I cannot believe I just typed that. It smells warm yet new, sweet yet woody, cosy but fresh, familiar yet unique. I love it. I have yet to smell the re-release, but I hope they have not changed the formula, because I adore the scent - and the effect it has on me - so much.

Smells beautiful like the softest lavender baby powder!!! Very much a musky skin scent with some earthy undertones. Intimate sillage as well that lasts a few decent hours- I love my gourmands so Ive layered with sweeter or fruity notes but I can appreciate a good stand alone floral accord. Reminds me vaguely of Chanel number 5 I think although that one is much more intense but they do share a few notes in case that may better suit someone???

Helmut Lang Eau de Parfum is one of my favorite goto parfums - perfect for a quaint evening out because of its subtle but lasting drydown scent thats sexy and powdery that's not in anyway offensive. This does remind you of baby powder but I think it has a sprinkle of edge to it elusively airing more towards cedar and sandlewood. NITTY-GRITTY: Last 10+ hour,for anyone, similar to philosophy scent family.

Great scent. Very similar to roucel's musc ravageur, with a bit of seductive purple velvet flowers. One of my favourite scents as a charming potion. A rare and precious jewel, unfortunately recently discontinued, that remains one of the most brillant pieces to have from collection. 9.5/10

An interesting parfum wearable and original..in the line of Roucel Maurice muscs. Sadly discontinued.. definitely a piece to obtain . 10/10 there is a clear/dirty animal note maybe could be unisex like Malle's Musc if you are interested to have one ; contact me,i'm in Italy

This is one of my favorite frangrances, i feel really feminine wearing it. It ́s very long lasting on me. To bad that it ́s so hard to find. I use it only at special occasions becouse I only have a half bottle left.

I wore this on my wedding day and loved it. It is slightly more masculine and not sickly sweet, which is why I loved it so much.

This is such a beautiful fragrance; cozy, soft, feminine and very elegant. It has everything... Well worth the price tag.

I found someone selling 2 used bottles for $135 and I could not pass it up. Combined there's about 2oz of juice left. Batch code 0235. The opening is very barbershop-y, like OLD SCHOOL barbershop. The dry down is powdery, and in a way reminds me of play-doh on your hands. I'm really not big on lavender AT ALL, and this does nothing to change that fact, but the dry down is worth it. Performance is pretty abysmal, but seeing how this is a used vintage fragrance (whose storage conditions are unknown), I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt and assume that, once upon a time, it performed fairly decently. I'm also gonna assume that time & oxygen have also wreaked havoc on the note pyramid. I've been wanting to smell this fragrance for the longest time, and now that I have it.... meh... it's okay... but nevertheless I'll cherish it. I have no regrets in purchasing it. I may not be getting much use out of it, but I'll gladly hold on to it as part of my collection until i decide to pass it on to it's next owner. on a separate note: I have no idea why they've stopped producing perfumes under the Helmut Lang label. I'm sure it has something to do with their current owners and the deal P&G originally had with the brand prior to the acquisition. But for a fashion house, fragrances are a no-brainer MONEY MAKER, and Helmut Lang doesn't seem to be doing so hot these days. I wish they would stop trying to revive the fashion line and just sell perfumes- or just let this house die entirely. It's sad what has become of this brand, but Helmut Lang himself had the right idea to leave this industry behind... and for that he will always have my respect.

My husband bought this for me in 2002. He said that he tested it in a tax free shop in an airport while travelling, and he fell in love immediately. I thought the scent was okey. I do like it, but it doesn't have the same Whoa-effect on me as it has on him. He first gave me a 50 ml bottle, and when it was finished, I managed to buy one of the last 90 ml bottles on Strawberrynet just before everyone stopped selling it. I keep it in dark to keep it fresh. And I use it really seldom because it is so rare now. It still has this magical effect on my husband, and therefore I use it almost only when I am on a date with him. He just can't stop sniffing my neck ;) That's good enough fo me! By the way, I am wearing Balenciaga Cristobal today, and I find some similarities between these two. Unfortunately it has been discontinued too.

Found this fragrance for a bargain and I couldn’t let it go Bought it....wore it.....enjoyed it The best way to describe it is if you would’ve liked a version of musk Ravageur that is intensely floral without the animalic notes A discontinued gem that didn’t get the recognition it deserved lost in the sands of time never to come back again I’m a performance freak I love my fragrances to last all day long but in this situation I was willing to make an exception A little thin and it doesn’t project at all but nonetheless I enjoyed it and feel privileged that I have it

Musc Ravageur's sister. No doubts. In my vision Helmut Lang EDP was Roucel's prototype for his much more hyped Musc Ravageur. Replace the cinnamon/spices combo of the Malle with slight yet spohisticated floral patterns, tame it down a little bit et voilà, here's Helmut Lang EDP. Same dirty/clean vibe, same overall allure. Simply brilliant and undeservedly overlooked. Terrific! Rating: 9/10

Refreshing, soft and fluffy on my skin. I pull out a sweet lavender, drying down into a powdery musk scent. I like it and enjoy wearing it. I can imagine wearing this anytime, anyplace, even to bed. Big like from me.

On my skin this one is more on the masculine side. I cannot detect the sweetness of vanilla I expected. The opening is rather green and herbal but the drydown is more agreeable. I consider myself an oriental-vanilla kinda girl but this is definitely not my cup of tea.

I argue any perfume is genderless but this is a heart achingly breathtaking aromatic, floral musk any man or woman can wear. Helmut Lang were several steps ahead of their time when they initially released this, paving the way for the “your-skin-but-better” genre of fragrances like Glossier You, Juliette Has A Gun Not A Perfume, Geza Schoen’s Molecule creations. However, it isn’t overly floral, or musky, or woody or papery, neither synthetic in nature or too refined or cold. There’s equal parts warmth to the cool aromatics, enough sweetness to temper the musk, just enough patchouli to ground it and lend a slight earthiness to the composition. A slightly creamy woody backbone from the sandalwood and crisp elements from cedar. The orange blossom and heliotrope snatch my heart over and over again. What makes Helmut Lang Eau De Parfum a cut above the rest is the Maurice Roucel’s meticulously crafted musk, it is a tiny bit funky in the nature of human skin/sweat (fresh sweat not cumin-like)/almost baby like) It is sweet and aromatic and cozy and cocooning but not in the way a deep, vanillic or woody perfume tends to do. Yet elevated, elegant, polished. But never austere. A sure fire contender for a signature scent however, because it sells for a small fortune on the grey market and bottles of it in any formulation are pretty scarce... it is why it isn’t my signature. It’s a crime that this is no longer in production. I pray they release it again. For now, I savour every drop. A perfume that feels like home.

I must admit, I did not treasure this gem as it deserved. I am going to be one of those irritating people and describe the 2000 version. It was given to me as a Christmas present by one of my exes relatives, a lady of refined taste and ladylike demeanour (that was one of the positives being with him...) So, on first spritz a spicy, masculine mix of Musk and woods appear, I believe there IS musk in the composition, but that lasts a few minutes, what follows is a very seductive combo of patchouli, vanilla and herbs, the Vanilla here is more of the spicy kind, NOT gourmand thank God, and the whole concoction becomes softer, smoother, still spicy but there is a definite nuance of sandalwood and heliotrope. What I absolutely love about this perfume is that soon it starts giving, an aromatic concoction of woods, florals and a whisper of vanilla, never cloying, dull or common. At this stage the herbs kick in and add a very aromatic and persistent depth that stays with you for a long time. I always thought that this scent smells of understated elegance amd money! Mimosa reigns supreme throughout with the help of cedar and herbs. I can see why it can be perceived as more of a masculine scent, but this is not true. This perfume is elegant, refined, smooth, deep, spicy and utterly memorable! This is the scent that lead me to Miller et Bertaux and eventually to Fragrantica, and to appreciating all things fine and beautiful. I do hope the current reformulation lives up to its predecessor! Pure love!

when it came out, whole arthouse cinemas in vienna smelled of it because so many women (and men) in that specific arty surrounding were fond of it. hmm musky babypowder gentleness. sadly I haven't encountered it for many years...would be like being in a time capsule to smell it now: mulholland drive in a dark cinema or helmut langs big atelier in zelinkagasse when he closed it only some years after HL EDP was presented, werner schreyer at the top of his carreer lasciviously hanging round in the "volksgarten"-club. when I miss those wild years, I get my HL jeans with its gaffa-strips, sheer tops with white elastic bands and the fish-leather-half-of-my-monthly-salary-at-that-time-shoes out and try to catch a whisper of his perfume:-) ps.: I find the comparison to musc ravageur kind of misleading because helmut lang perfume was not bitchy nor vulgar (as I remember it) and it was actually not spicy, more herbal (lavender)- so it had a very different- and I find more original- tune than MR. it was just this "double underlined" musk which made it smell kind of futuristic at that time...and the integration of a masculine quote into an otherwise VERY feminine perfume was unusual too.

Beautiful woody and flowery combination on a delicious vanillary base. It has got a special powdery echo made by heliotrope as well as candy cotton.Not sweet, not loud, but slightly aromatic and spicy in a rather dry way. I can`t understand why it `s classified as masculine perfume?It`s a scent of warmth, safety and idyllic childhood. Almost like a sitting on your mother`s knees:) Helmut Lang`s composition has much in common with a younger Maurice Roucel`s evergreen - Musc Ravageur .Although not mentioned among the notes it is musk which joins both of them.There is some art of conversion,like in a mirror: what is clean, soft and silent in HL becomes dirty, powerful and wild in MR.Those two are telling a kind of story, a fairy tale about inner change.Childhood breaking into growing up.Archetypes :Yin and Yang if you prefer;)Man in woods and spices and woman represented by vanilla, powder and flowers. Outstanding longevity with a tender aura around a wearing person.Moderate sillage and a very good emanation. In a word :alluring ! Unfortunately some years ago classic version disappeared from the shops and 2014 reedition though promising is not as good.

While lovers of oriental vanillas might get dissapointed by this one, this is the one to try if You generally find that cathegory too volouptious or gourmand. The herbal notes that to some feel masculine adds a fresh quality, defining it a contemporary interpretation of classic notes. Wich to me corresponds well with the designers name. Not complicated, but still sophisticated. Cant feel any cotton candy, the patchouly are used lightly to ground this experience. On me; medinum sillage, lastingpower very good.

Very good quality perfume, so smoothly blended. Bravo to the creator, Maurice Roucel. A soft skin type, warm and cozy, yet elegant, perfect for both casual and formal settings. Pleasant scent, you won't offend anyone. Wish I could afford it - would be a perfect everyday scent and I'd smell like a million bucks! I'm very surprised that musk is not listed as a note here, because I find it a smooth, soft lavender-vanilla-heliotrope musk...it reminds me of a high end version of the drugstore classic, Skin Musk!

I love this. But really.....where is the cotton candy??? I get every other note in this but cotton candy, it does dry down to a powdery scent. This is for a powerful confident woman or man. To me very Unisex. Sillage good and longevity not bad. I’m wondering if this is still available because I’ve seen prices upwards of $300

LOVE it so much! Own it since 2000! It works well in all occasion, work, date night, music fest a-must(!), traveling. This is exotic, smart, sophisticated, charming to me, and is one of my signature scent. Only have 2 bottles of 2000 version left on my shelf. Using it with gratitude.

I bought a sample of this from Luckyscent a long time ago thinking I was ordering the 2014 unisex version - this was much sweeter & powdery opened with boose, pepper, & oud notes dry down was sweet & powdery wasn't bad but wasn't what I hoped for, oh well my mistake!
