Chalain

It's a slightly spicy citrus oriental / amber. I get the comparison to Shalimar / Guerlain above, in the "smells like" section (I could also add the original Lyra by Alain Delon and Fifi Chachnil's eponymous fragrance, and also Shem-el-Nessim by Grossmith all 3 spicy citrus orientals and slightly powdery too), but I like this better (exceedingly elegant and smooth / uplifting) and as Luca Turin once said about a perfume (I think comparing Estee Lauder's Youth Dew Amber Nude to the OG Youth Dew), this is a subset of a Shalimar type fragrance, classical genre, and I think I prefer it to the full deck, in fact I know I do. Shalimar is more "sour" and more "smoky" and feels a bit dated, this Chalain feels bright and absolutely intoxicating, perfect radiance etc. I have the Les Brumes spray version. It's also a somewhat mysterious perfume imo that requires a bit of study and contemplation, does not give its secrets away immediately. I have just been testing it for a few hours, and will give it a full body wear and see if I can detect the flowers more: slightly powdery iris, slightly bitter but pretty jasmine, and the spicy geranium. This is my third Henry Jacques Les Brumes parfum, after Osara and Temporaline, and I am consistently impressed by the radiance and blending of this line of perfumes. I have tested quite a few and found them all to be beautiful and special even when more simple and straightforward (tuberose / Dentelle au Coeur, and Lily of the Valley / Dorilene or Lilanka for instance). Probably my personal favorite house.
