Hugo XY

Simple, linear, possibly safe and dull to some, but I think people are surely missing a trick with this one. It looks like it's been voted as a spring/summer scent here on Fragrantica, but stick with me a second here for a bit of a leftfield suggestion that can really make XY shine. Try it on those cold, winter (and maybe early spring) days, when the sky is blue and the air is cold, crisp, and fresh. The pear leaf and mint are definitely the notes than ring through and rather than fight against the cool winter air, it embraces and harmonises with it. Just below it all, you get the peppery basil which is subtle and fresh but just adds enough herby spice to give it a touch of warmth along with the mustiness of the patchouli. I absolutely love this fragrance for those rare days that are already so invigorating and this scent just adds to what nature is already giving us. I only ever wear this during those rare days which means it's lasted me a lifetime but every time I do get it out, I find it so pleasing. You can pick this up really cheap now so I say give it a go if you see one for a steal. It's no great shakes at being a summer freshie for sure, but for that handful of days in the depths of winter or in early spring, it's an absolute winner in my eyes. It's not going to blow anyone away on a test strip, I get that. Wear it this way however and it can be a bit of a surprise special. Notes: Pear leaf, mint and basil stick out to me far above anything else with a subtle, soft underlying musty patchouli. When: Winter winter winter! When the sun is out, but it's still 0 degrees out and the air is crisp, sharp and fresh. It would suit any occasion due to it's soft, somewhat safe vibe.

I LOVE THIS! SO UNIQUE! This is such a beautiful spring and summer cologne. It smells just like you'd imagine it to smell by the notes listed above. I smell every single note listed with the exception of the patchouli. I smell the minty note, basil, cedar wood, and bergamot the most. And then I smell the pear leaf and musk in the backround. So yeah...expect a very green fragrance with this. But a well made one. I don't own many fragrances with mint as a note so I was excited to get this. Anyway, I really love this. I at first voted above with a "like" but I just changed my vote to "love." This is definitely a crowd-pleaser type of fragrance. I consider it blind buy safe and it's a super pleasant fragrance for anyone. I consider this perfect for a man in his 20s and 30s but anyone of any age can really wear this. The one and only complaint that I have about this is that the projection isn't great. Longevity - About 4 hours. Moderate in my book so garners no compaints. One touch up will last ya a whole work day. Projection - Only projects about 2 feet for about 2 hours. Last two hours it only projects about 1 foot. I do wish it were a tad stronger in terms of throw. Overall Score - 8/10 This is I think my 4th buy of this fragrance house. And I actually really like Hugo Boss as a fragrance house and I think they have at least one fragrance that any given person would love. Another unrelated comment...I have the female counterpart "XX" and that one is very pleasant too. A beautiful laundry detergent type smell with a fruity twist. Big thumbs up Hugo Boss! I'm gonna buy some more from you.

I hate that this fragrence doesn't get the love that it deserves.. I first saw this bottle in the downstairs toilet at my uncles house and thought let's spray it.. that was around 15 years ago and I still love that fragrence the way I did when I first put my nose to it. The most freshest minty basil smell with a sugary base note. Such a masculine fragrance deffo to be worn with a suit or can be used in the gym too. Smells lovely and a little powdery on dry down too. Doesn't last too long tho 10/10 deffo recommend can get it cheap

Juicy and fruity, masculine attention grabbing scent that was such an easy reach I am sad I lot it in a suit case traveling for work. Definitely rebuying this sometime soon, just because of the smell. I remember this having a magnetic cap which is also a plus. Simple presentation with a basic, good smelling juice inside. Boss knows how to please the masses and this just shows how much. Simplistic though finished. Great addition to any collection, and really I don't have anything that smells quite like it, aside from memories.

I love the balance of pear, mint & other notes. Very nice little synthetic mix. This one is good on hot summer days as it projects like you just stepped out the shower, sprayed some musky-woody cologne & brushed your teeth. I feel clean & warm. I just wish it last long enough. Nice but there are other choices that performs better. And yes most boss fragrances wants you to spray frequently and buy more. Im done with hugo boss in my collection. Rating:5/10

I remember the launch of this product. When I first smelt the tester to this I was amazed by how different it was from all the others. I knew this was definitely going to be one that is soon going to be sitting on the fragrance shelf in my room. It has a long lasting smell and is quite unforgettable. Don't be afraid of the basmati and greenery, its the signature ingredient which makes it unique from everyone else.

Hugo is always green! And I love it. This doesnt stand out of that! I love it from the very first sniff, and decided to buy immediately! But, By that time, I didn't recognize that it's too light and weak, all I thought is about the beautiful green herbal scent. Very disappointed, it smells good but too weak and light, no one notice that u wearing fragrance, and it's gone in about 1 hour.

I definitely agree with Scotchegg review. Its beautiful at a particular time and definitely unique any day, any time. If you blind fold me & make me smell 200 fragrances, I would easily find this one cause its so different. Not earth shattering but nice & beautiful especially on fair summer weather. Like you literally step out of the shower & just brushed your teeth.

Spring awakening, Like a slow start from the deep winter sleep. Starts soft green, fresh, juicy: Good morning! Then is mostly tree blossoms, like the one in spring, everywhere around you: Good day! Really nice, clean scent to carry you through the day. Sillage is medium to soft, but longevity is quite long.

Very easy to wear ,happy scent for young crowd perfect for summer,fruits, green and a bit of kind roses or jasmin at the background . It is skin scent not loud but imagine smelling green and fruits with hint of jasmine amazing.

A perfect fresh and clean fragrance for summer! As strange as it sounds, it kinda reminds me the smell of a water park (in a good way). That's probably why I like it so much lol.

I have a lot of affection for this fragrance - it is a unique scent from a large design house (not even remotely close to niche quality)...but, again, the unique notes are what make this stand out. It is a well-constructed, woody aromatic with some very nice green notes, most notably Pear Leaf - interesting. I don't know another fragrance that has the notes of pear leaf, basil, and mint with refreshing bergamot on top that also warms up so nicely. I have summer scents that stay fresh and clean and then fade. This doesn't have very good longevity, but it dries down with some nice, herbaceous patchouli and a fair amount cedar. Not overly synthetic in any way (as in 'off-putting'), but I would not know how to squeeze the juice out of a pear leaf to make this composition more natural. However, in reflection, I don't know what pear leaf smells like precisely - this is green, crisp and warms to be a bit earthy and woody. The musk (a key base note here) underneath gets it off the skin a few inches, but really this is moderate projection at most. It smells refreshingly "green", and I'm glad it is not 'fruity' in any way. So, to me, this is a truly original fragrance that is office-friendly, business casual or suit and definitely one that draws female attention. It is, for me, a casual scent and I enjoy wearing it on sun-filled days. I have said this before - I don't like fragrances with monster longevity all the time, although I appreciate powerhouse scents for what "they" are. This is opposite of that...it is a wonderful, fresh, vibrant, green, inviting and sensual scent that lasts about 3-4 hours or so (apply liberally and to clothes and skin). 8-10 sprays is not too much (layering it helps on skin as well - plus use the After Shave Balm if you buy a set...a nicely-scented base). Hugo Boss has done a lot with bringing originality to the world of fragrance (the classic bottle from '95, "Hugo", is one of my favorites from my start in the great big world after college) and this is a rather solid scent based on how it smells to me alone - forget longevity. Reapply or put another fragrance on later in the day or evening. Simply put, good stuff with allure. 6.5-7/10.

Hugo XY such a unique fragrance ... It has the touch of refreshing, calm, and tender, yet masculine enough. IMO First time I sprayed XY I catch the fresh scent of pear leaf, cedar, mint, and a little bit citrussy? (I know that it is not supposed to be on the notes listed) Quite strong for a couple minutes and when it's on the dry down process the citrus scent fade away and all notes become softer leaving basil - cedar - mint - musk - patchouli and pear leaf all mixed together well enough giving the sense of calm and refreshing. I love this kind of scents on fragrance, too bad XY doesnt have the sillage well maintained, and too soft after 1 hour on my skin and after 3 hours it's gone completely.. But last about 4-5 hours on my shirt. I have to apply more than 3 sprays on my shirt, 2 sprays on my wrist, 3 spray on my neck (behind right and left ear + under my chin) With enormous spray i think it won't hurt other people nose.. it is light, soft, and have pleasant scent.. the package gives the picture of the fragrance type it has sleek glass bottle with silver cap - looks clean and refreshing. suitable for daily use at Office, College, hang out, or dates. Longevity : 5/10 Sillage : 7/10 (Soft) Scent : 8/10 surely if the longevity + sillage longer and stronger I would have this for my first choice.

Just got this a couple days ago. Good scent for the cost, definitely can smell the mint, bergamot, and basil, but it’s NOT as green as something like Polo Green. Kind of has that Mall cologne scent. You get what you pay for. I recommend it if you’re on a budget, it is definitely a masculine scent and I’d say it’s wearable daily. Went on a date with a girl and she liked it, but if you want a more bougie green scent I wouldn’t recommend this. This is great for active men, maybe gym-goers, not so much your date night sweet fragrance leaners. 7.5/10

I have a bottle of XY and after I have tested it for a couple of times, I think I can talk some about this fragrance. Definitely XY is a woody aromatic. I can clearly smell pear leaf in the opening and some woods during drydown. XY is a nice casual scent with longevity around 6 hours. This is that kind of inoffensive, modern and clean fragrance, perfect for hot days. My final rating: 8.0/10

No the best from HB, but works good on me, fresh, clean and green, I ́m using it this fall, but in spring and summer seems like have to be better. longevity: 4 to 6 hrs. versatility: Is the best thing of this fragrance, can be used in a wedding or to go shopping, to go dinner, to the gym, to the movies, to the office, to walk outside.

Today was the first sign of spring in my part of the world.cool but sunny and clear. I really enjoyed wearing this scent today for the first time in months and I will happily continue to use this throughout the spring after not being overkeen in the other seasons. Very different from any other scent I own.I really like it.

got this one yesterday smells ok def doesn't smell as good as original hugo but its not bad I'm wearing it so yea and def not aquatic at all it was a blind buy for me I def don't regret it would recommend hugo original before this though

Very nice juicy green scent that has the synthetic signature Boss DNA running through it. Good presentation and very versatile. However it gives away its cheap price through its lacklustre performance. Nonetheless, I'm glad I've had it.

Smells like fresh nothingness. I feel swindled for paying 20-some-odd bucks for a small bottle of XY. The bottle's nice, but that's where it yields. The scent itself is good to freshen up the inside of your car.

In the opening smells similar to the newer formulations of Armani Code with some basil and minty notes. Quickly dries down into a very minty, herbal and masculine fragrance

Bought it as a fan of Hugo which was the first one. Used it during my days in college, wasn't very heavy just about pleasant.

Nice fragrance...No tension for daily use....very different.....overall good....last for 4 to 5 hrs.

Funny story I actually got this from my boss who didn't want to use this anymore so I just took since I am trying to build a larger fragrance collection. I personally don't really like the scent I think the patchouli is kind of a bad smell if you ask me. But I do see some good thing about it When you wear it you don't smell bad, so I would say, a good fragrance if your not that into fragrances Honest opinion 6/10

You can tell it's a boss scent. The top and mid disappear quickly, and the dry down is just okay. It might be suitable for office use (with A/C).

This was my first expensive cologne. Bought it when I was 22 because it was Boss (brand recognition) and felt I needed a more serious perfume for my job. Definitely serious, there is nothing sweet or floral in this one but it just smelled too weird(maybe its my skin), and girls didn't like it. In the end I got tired of using it and now it is stored in the basement.

Yup, woody and aquatic. I like it but I don't. I was initially dissapointed but then comparing to that disappointment the drydown doesnt seem so bad. In aquatics, i have encountered a fair number I'd much prefer. I'd accept it as a gift but wouldn't go and pay for it. I find myself disappointed in Boss these days.

This perfume is terrible and it pisses me off each time i wear it. First it smells nice and sweet, and in few minutes it gets heavy as many other manly perfumes. The longevity is less than 2 hours. I regretted buying it. It is a tricky perfume and it taught me a lesson not to buy a perfume from the first try

Hugo XY is a interesting herbal based fragance, start very green, performing trough the time a fresh/herbal structure,it feel a bit bitter/sweet but it's really good, long lasting on skin...young and dinamic, without season restriction IMO, i like so much.

I have tried out a lot of different smells this summer, and the only one that really dissapointed me was this one. I just dislike it! (I'm a D&G Pour Homme, DHI, GA Eau de Nuit-guy).

This 'thing' is outrageous. Offensive, like all Boss line. Smells overly chemical - synthetic (in a bad way) and it has poor performances. Nor masculine, nor unisex. I am still wandering if it can be considered a fragrance or just a 'smell'. Punches you in the face and probably you'll just want to scrub it off. Smells cheap and teenager. Hope it could at least be a gateway fragrance.
