Bangla Yasaman

As Mrs. Robinson said (and was sampled in George Michael's 1992 hit 'Too Funky'): "Would you like me to seduce you? Is that what you're trying to tell me?" I would be lying if I said I was searching high and low for exactly this kind of jasmine, because I didn't know this kind of jasmine could exist. But it does, and leave it to the genius of an independent perfumer with the freedom to explore new frontiers for our great King of Flowers. Isabelle Larignon allows the intoxicating nature of jasmine to reach its full intoxicating potential, lets it run the gamut between feral wee and green pearls tea, and gives the nose a headspace home run, all without actually incorporating natural jasmine absolutes. Think of Bangla Yasaman as a seductive holograph of this rakish, white-petaled gay dog (old slang, look it up!) of a flower. Other naturals play their part, with the eyebrow raising use of buchu, the most hormonal plant: blackcurrant, sharp mint, ammoniac, dangerously sharp. It's one that perfumers must dilute to effectively use, but it really does make a mark, if you will. The sensuality is really under way as citrus and spice ease into a celery seeds, the sensation of warm, aroused bodies and heavy, excited indole. The illusion of jasmine is in full force, along with enough tea to drink and loose leaf to put in one's pipe and smoke it. There's even a bit of daffy daffodil yellow flower action in the mix. It's sexy but poised, which is no small feat, so I do tip my hat. It takes some savvy to balance brassy with classy, and this is a TKO.

a bit pissy at first, but it goes away very quickly, on the spray you get a spicy, citrusy white tea with pretty herbal white flowers, and on the dry down you get a really nice, very pleasing and soft jasmine with cardamom, the spices calm down over time and it gets softer and smoother after a while on the dry down, an earthiness starts to come out, with an animalic funk and smoky, tobacco-y aspects, which is really interesting, reminds me of the animalic complexities in Marlou's fragrances, it brings a really seductive and sexy vibe to this, probably an insane spring/summer date fragrance :) it's actually pretty accurate to a freshly brewed jasmine pearl tea, which is one of my favorite teas, jasmine in general tends to be my favorite tea to the point where I always have a box in one of those classic chinese blue tins genuinely shocked by how well made, high quality, and perfectly balanced this is, and to top it off, this fragrance has no jasmine in it, Isabelle Larignon brews her fragrances like potions, everything she touches is perfectly balanced, really unique and just works

It's sad to see the limited reviews, so I decided to contribute. This one is very, very pretty and easy to wear. It has touches of tartness and sweetness, as well as depth from tobacco, which sets it apart from the usual freshies or light florals. However, it is non-offensive. My husband, who is sensitive to fragrance, finds it "pleasant." If he were to buy me a bottle, this would be the one he would choose. I really like the green facets in here. I am new to the perfume world, but find myself leaning towards chypres, green florals, and 'clean' scents. I have a 10mL but plan on buying a whole bottle when it's gone. Lovely and worth exploring.

Really love this one, and loved it even more when I read that it is a sleight of hand, to so perfectly recreate the scent of jasmine, without jasmine in it. It is really magical, quite deep and sensuous, it doesn't have the saccharine, overly indolic smell that some jasmines do (especially the otherwise magnificent Jasmin de Pays). It is earthier, more mysterious. It's great.

This is good. I'm actually very intrigued by the fact that the perfumer put together a jasmine accord without using a natural absolute for this. I love osmanthus in general and here it gives a fruity, deep, slightly balsamic edge. Smells high end and so well thought out. I wish it was a tad greener but overall a good performer, never boring.

If you like an indolic jasmine fragrance, then you need this in your life. On strip it was INTENSELY indolic but on skin it's far more rounded, with many sweet, fruity and floral facets. It's utterly gorgeous.

Cardamon and citrus, as well as the saffron, lend themselves as a bitter, spicy accompaniment to big animal jasmine, all grounded in a fruity tobacco base. Has an earthiness that's incredibly sexy to me.

Bangla Yasaman was the one perfume from the four from Isabelle Larignon that I thought I wouldn't like. Jasmin is either too soapy or too pissy for me, and I love white flowers on paper, but on skin, it's complicated. To me, that's how a sexy philosophy teacher would smell, or should smell. The opening is a really nice cardamon, not my favorite note, but it's really well done, and it's well complimented by the citrus. I would love to smell more buchu to get a better idea of what it's doing here exactly. After the opening it's a nice, round but still complex scent, a bit less spicy than the opening; the jasmine note has just the right edge; it's on the verge of pissy, but it stays velvety. It evokes '60s/'70s green and purple subcultures in a really refined way. I would not have guessed the sage, but knowing it's here I can detect it, but everything is just really well blended, and the jasmine impression is pretty impressive. The tobacco in the base is just the cherry on top, making it a sexy perfume. Very nice, even if it is not my vibe.

I am stunned by the fact this perfume has no actual Jasmine in it! The indoles are present for me immediately, and the green jasmine notes are lush, and velvety in feel/scent just as you'd expect from the natural oil. After reading the description of the celery like tones emphasized in here I can smell it distinctly and it's really beautifully done. I am not partial to green florals, or that daffodil scent, or woody green notes. I love indoles in moderation, and these are just perfectly on the edge of too dirty for me then they are pulled back by the spices and balsam/vanilla. I fell in love with Milky Dragon after a few wearings but this I think has surpassed it in originality, and sexiness. It's like what you'd expect the cardio-mommies at the gym with the huge glutes to wear. Just kind of dirty and clean at the same time. A lot of sex appeal coming from here but I think you could wear it during the day not just as a 'special date' kind of perfume. Kate Jackson, meow~ ! I tested on skin, not paper - huge longevity/ medium sillage.

maybe its one of those i come around to eventually. i have no idea what occasion u wear this to.. probably some yoga outdoor retreat where women with long hair wear toe shoes and talk about their children who attend waldorf schools. i'll think abt it.

Review of “Bangla Yasaman” by Isabelle Larignon This was the one I expected to love the most — based on the notes, it seemed perfectly aligned with my taste. But, interestingly enough, it turned out to be my least favorite of the three. The opening is herbal, but not in a fresh-cut grass or dewy green way. Instead, it reminds me of freshly cut flower stems in a florist's shop — that sharp, almost metallic green scent mixed with something slightly synthetic and hard to define. It's quite unusual. As it develops, the fragrance takes on a very peculiar character that instantly transported me to the countryside — like cooking outdoors while camping, or preparing a barbecue in a park. There's a shifting blend of smoky and floral elements, moving back and forth without ever fully settling. It's a bit chaotic for my personal taste, though undeniably creative. While not my favorite, I can truly appreciate the imagination and boldness behind it. Once again none of the three perfumes made me want to purchase a full-size bottle.

I will say like this on first impression : spicy jasmine, definitely the core of this perfume. Kind of get a urinal vibe, which can happen with jasmine perfume, not really pleasant but it’s really like the 5 first minute with it on skin I have a sample of the three first perfumes from Isabelle Larignon and I was surprised that the three of them have more or less the same top note (bergamot, bucchu and cardamom) but the three of them are really different and convey a different mood. This one give me summer in east Asia after the rain when all the flowers open up again
