Isabey Gardenia

Wow! This scent is so classy, sophisticated and absolutely stunning. It's a grown up scent but not a mature scent and I could imagine it being appropriate practically everywhere, from day to night and from office to evening function. I feel like you could wear it any season too, but there is something mostly tropical about it. I smell a very realistic gardenia note and a very realistic ylang ylang note, both being quite dominant here. It's not a soliflore perfume though and more of a white floral bouquet perfume that would really suit a bride on her wedding day. There's something very precious, innocent and virginal about it. I don't really smell the tangerine in this thankfully, but I can detect the orange blossom note fairly prominently. There's some of that powdery iris there too and a very small hint of jasmine, but I don't smell the rose in this. All of this adds some complexity and depth to this fragrance. Finally in the drydown I can smell some subtle use of musk and slightly woody sandalwood, but these don't overwhelm the white floral composition. I can't smell any amber here and I'm guessing that's just adding some slightly resinous and warm sweetness to this perfume. If I had to say what perfumes this reminds me the most of, it would be both Fleur Nocturne (which is by Isabey as well) and Organza by Givenchy. It's like a cross between these two but more tropical smelling than either. Lighter as well. This perfume is as I said a white floral bouquet, but it is only very slightly indolic and it's not an ice queen white floral. It is quite warm like a hug from a loved one and it feels like a beautiful veil of white flowers that envelops your body, mind and senses. I find this perfume both relaxing and invigorating at the same time and I'd very higly recommend it to everyone who loves white floral perfumes as much as me. Sillage was moderate on me and I got 7 1⁄2 hours of wear from this on my skin, which is just right for me and how I like my perfumes to be. It's not too strong but it definitely has projection and won't dissapear immediately on your skin. All of this is why I'm giving this incredibly beautiful fragrance a 9.5/10. It's absolutely stunning and I have to buy a full bottle of this now to add to my collection after having smelt my sample! The gold bottle with the purple ribbon on the cap is beautiful too.

Gorgeous Gardenia! Living in the South, I simply adore gardenias, their beautifully formed porcelain-like blossoms, the intoxicating aroma, and I have searched high and low to find the perfect, realistic gardenia perfume! Not only do I love the scent of Isabey Gardenia — along with its longevity and performance, not to mention the exquisite gold bottle — but there is an enchanting history as well! Originally launched in 1924, great respect has been given to maintain integrity while breathing new life into this 100-year-old, embracingly warm and lavish French parfum. Creamy, rich and heady, Isabey Gardenia truly captures the essence of actual gardenia blooms. It is perfect for the spring and summer, and for wintering in Palm Beach! I have also compared Isabey Gardenia against Chanel Gardenia, which is another lovely scent... Chanel's interpretation is more watery/dewey, while Isanbey takes a creamier approach. Even though I adore Chanel's Gardenia, I am unwilling to pay Exclusifs pricing for a scent that does not last more than 2 hours on my skin. Isabey lasts 4-5 hours with beautiful, moderate projection. (I have the solid gold bottle, with gold cap and purple ribbon.) A classic fragrance yet perfectly modern while all together timeless, Isabey Gardenia is elegance in a bottle!

Isabey Gardenia is very understated , soft and elegant . When I first smelt it , I thought it was very nice but didn’t grab me straight away like I thought it would , based on how well it was received in the reviews. Now that I have worn it for a few hours , I get whiffs of soft rose and Iris which adds more depth . I mixed it with my heavier gardenia by Annick Goutal ( not a satisfied blind buy) which comes across to me as dirty and soily gardenia , and bang , 💥 what a fragrance mix! I might just have to get a bottle so I can mix them together . Just heavenly ! Update - Worn it now most of the day on its own and I love it even more . It is the best gardenia I have ever smelt !!!! And the longevity is out of this world . I can still smell it on my wrist the next morning . Just bought a bottle and one of Fleur Nocturne ( fruitier , sweeter version) and La Route D’Emeraude ( woodier version) 💓💓💓 love my first experience with the Perfume House - Isabey . With the full bottle and I’m perplexed . It now smells very powdery which I didn’t smell before and my favourite gardenia is not as distinct. Sob! sob! Maybe it’s because the weather is getting warmer .

OMG! I could smell this fragrance at a perfume exhibition some months ago and I was immediately taken by it! I tested only once and couldn't buy or at least receive samples, so I left it there back in my memory. If testing perfume only once can matter, I can say it hit my brains! It is probably what I'm secretly looking for to wear for myself as signature and probably don't dare. It's an all woman scent, totally feminine, enticing, beautifully vintage gardenia that doesn't smell only gardenia, rather a complex changing smell that keeps the wearer captivating all along. And yes, "my" beloved orange flowers are there! That's the secret of perfume for me when you have no comment. So many times I have to say: "Oh, ok, this is nice in this part, not that part" Not with Isabey Gardenia! It was one of the scents that made me say: "Yes!" in that occasion and it was full with niche perfumes! I will try and track it down somewhere.

I bought the whole variation set from Isabey, and I think, this was my favorite scent out of them all. Absolutely classy, timeless gardenia, vintage meets contemporary, soft and elegant, but full of character and not faint at all. Creamy, true gardenia shines through with hints of very mellow vegetal and mentholic qualities, and soft, ethereal sweetness from ylang-ylang. This is what I could see Grace Kelly wearing, it's this type of perfume. Stunning, the quality is just indescribable, nothing synthetic smelling, sticky, unbalanced here. True and timeless beauty. I also can see it being similar to a cross between Organza and Fleur Nocturne, minus some sweetness of both. I agree this is very universal, it is sensual, yet sophisticated, could be beautiful in all sorts of weather. Can't get enough of it, gardenia that's very much my taste, which doesn't happen too often as I am not a usual white floral lover.

What a joyously feminine and youthful fragrance... it's like it is announcing the springtime and the first blooms of flowers opening up during the dawn! I can smell the juicy tangerine and orange blossom keeping things fresh and the creamy gardenia, jasmine and ylang in the heart notes. I love the touches of iris and rose in there too and the powdery and musky base. What's not to love about this?! I'm super happy to own Isabey's Gardenia perfume and I don't think that you could get a much more classic and refined white floral perfume for the ladies than this one. It's something that a woman in the 1920's in her Lanvin and Chanel would wear while draped in her pearls, but equally the modern revamped version of this woman in 2023 and not 1923. Lasting power was around 5 hours on me and people could smell me about an arm's length away. For this lovely beauty I'm giving a perfect 5 stars :)

Isabey Gardenia is all lace and skin. She is female personified. I honestly smell very little gardenia in here but it doesn't matter. What I do smell is gorgeous enough for me to make sure that I have a bottle at all times. This is very sexy stuff. It starts off a little heady w/exotic sweet ylang ylang and orange blossom.This fragrance carries quite a soft countenance and when you're in the room w/it you'll be looking around for the woman who's sensuality is noticable, feline,w/smooth glowing skin and an air of grace about her. As the jasmine, iris, and gradenia unveil themselves you'll realize that you're in the presence of a timeless classic. Heartachingly beautiful Isabey Gardenia smells like an impossible find ~ the past and the present brought into one shining example of perfection in parfumerie. What an excruciating pleasure she is.......

NEW FORMULATION NOT AS GOOD. This has been my favorite perfume for a long time. As soon as I open my backup bottle, I order a new one so that I always have one in reserve. I just opened a new bottle, no longer in the square bottle with clear lid that came in blue box, but the newer white box. IT HAS BEEN REFORMULATED! It no longer smells the same and the longevity that I loved is totally gone. I'd have gladly paid double the price for the old formula. I hate it when they try to cut the cost of manufacturing an item only to decrease the quality, which is what I'm assuming happened. I wrote to the company directly, but no response. I'm heartbroken over this. Got to find a new perfume. Yes, it's that different.

Isabey Gardenia. 1.7 golden square bottle and clear plastic cap. One of the top 5 gardenia fragrances. It opens and carries a lot of ylang-ylang with the gardenia. It gives it body and creaminess. The ylang is just as strong as it is in Ysatis- which popped into my mind in the opening spray. It evolved into a creamy sweet gardenia scent and it was indeed beautiful without veering into blue cheese and maybe a slight mushroom nuance, but its not bothersome. The iris and rose are around the edges of the gardenia and its a very nice addition to the heart. The gardenia settles upon sandalwood, a white musk and amber. Its mature and beautiful. Its worth exploring if you are a gardenia fan.

One of the best gardenia fragrances I’ve sampled. I love a rich, creamy gardenia scent and that is exactly what I get here. They ylang-ylang and orange flower really lift up the gardenia and make it shine. I also smell a hint of spice as well. Nutmeg. Sweet smelling, really fresh flowers always remind me of nutmeg. I own several gardenia fragrances - Chanel Gardenia, Robert Piguet Fracas as well as Gardenia, Marc Jacobs Gardenia, Jo Malone Vintage Gardenia, Creed Fleurs de Gardenia... but I can still find room for one more in collection as they all offer something different. This one is my pick for the full heat of summer. It’s decadent, lush and just gorgeous!

Guys, do not mistake an Old Formula Isabey Gardenia for what they are selling nowadays, totally different in all aspects: performance, projection, longevity, density. An old formula Gardenia is a thick, lactonic-creamy beast-like gardenia to die for. A micro droplet lasts for days, no exaggeration! The projection is phenomenal! It IS an old school masterpiece which is not possible to find anywhere, sadly. The new version is a weak, quickly disappearing and barely noticeable by other people around you skin scent. P.S. The bottle on the top of this page is a NEWER version, whilst the old bottle has a clear plastic cap.

Isabey Gardenia is the goddess of gardenia perfumes! This fragrance is SO GORGEOUS! This is the most sweet, creamy, lush gardenia I have ever smelled in a fragrance. It’s such a “true to life” floral that I almost fainted the first time I smelled this because I was in pure olfactory bliss. It makes me feel feminine and elegant every time I wear it – not to mention that men seem to find it irresistible, I get tons of compliments. This is one of those that despite the cringe worthy price, I will always have a bottle in my wardrobe. It is absolutely a gardenia lovers dream!

Beautiful fragrance, smells great, feminine, sweet floral gardenia orange blossom amber. And soooooo similar to Kenzo d'Amore. the more i smell it the more i think i have Kenzo on my wrists. the only deference is that Kenzo features Tuberose and Isabey features gardenia. its smells very similar. I need to add when I asked my husband if it smells nice, he said yes and when I asked if it smells momsy he said yes super fast...lol... so it’s a beautiful faminine fragrance but it does smell very much like vintage momsy gardenia fragrance (: kind of like Kenzo d amore

I ordered this today based only on the reviews. I have searched for a perfect gardenia perfume for a while. I found several I like, but they don't seem to last long on my skin, an hour tops. I'm hoping this is "the one" that I will both like and will be longer lasting. UPDATE: This may be the most gorgeous perfume I've ever smelled, even though it surprisingly doesn't smell like gardenia. I was so worried about ordering it blind since I couldn't find a sample of it. I'm so very glad I did. This is true love!

I really like this perfume. Honestly, I am not sure it is a pure gardenia perfume (more Ylang-Ylang), but it smells so mesmerizing and captivating. The scent is a multi-layered feminine white florals which is creamy and classy or slightly old-fashioned. It is a definitely "gardenia at night" and a scent for a femme-fatale. If I prefer gardenia under summer sun and sea breeze, I would wear Kai. When I go out for some afternoon tea, I would wear Elizabeth Taylor Gardenia. :)

Like it's sister fragrance, Fleur Nocturne, Isabey Gardenia rests on a lush blanket of florals. The opening only whispers Gardenia, as if carried by a breeze on a Maytime stroll past a garden. Aldehydes more prominent than in Fleur Nocturne with a bit of a soapy opening from the orange flowers. The drydown reveals Isabey's luscious base of lightly spiced sandalwood and amber that retains an almost apricot-like sweetness. Excellent longevity. A truly addictive scent.

2nd review: the more I smell it the more I fall for it! I have a small precious sample and I love it. It's a little thick but in a good way and it keeps radiant. It has a fresh take on heavy flowers, lovely all the way. Great longevity, it makes me feel enchanted and romantic. I can see the similarities with Micallef and Chanel, but Isabey gardenia is still unique.

I joined Fragrantica just to review Gardenia by Isabey. I bought this perfume one year ago and it just gets better and better - the dry down the next day is just to die for, you just cannot stop smelling it on your skin. Gardenia is the creamiest, softest, and classiest fragrance, it really does stand apart in my view but without screaming and shouting.

Lush, uber-feminine white floral fragrance- instant love! I agree with panderadfisk, though- this is more about ylang-ylang than gardenia- (which must be nearly impossible to distill from the petals, since you never see it in essential oil form) Reminds me of Teo Cabanel's Lace Garden, which I also recommend to white/yellow floral lovers-

I could write pages and pages about this perfume! But I wont! I may spoil it with words! Because its just perfect!! Divine!!! Adorable!! Men do love it! And when the wind brings a slight scent of it to your nose, reminding you that you wore it in the morning or the night, its absolutely impossible not to think "Yes I am a woman!". :p

Love....love...love this perfume! It's like being enveloped in lush velvety white blooms still wet with the morning mist. Very heady and luxurious,very classy and elegant. It conjures up visions of long, flowing white dress and white gloves and sparkling diamond tiara....extremely feminine...Definitely a five stars...!

This is a gorgeous gardenia fragrance, sensual and sweet. The Ylang Ylang adds a golden warmth to it. One of my best purchases this year. Glad I found it. I am a gardenia lover and have Gardenia Petale which is a different take on gardenia - more fresh and light. Isabeys gardenia is more creamy and honeyed. A love!

A lush, creamy and powdery gardenia. Isabey Gardenia definitely feels vintage, but not the dusty type. It reminds me of a special hand cream my mother used when I was a little girl.

This is lovely but, this ain't smell like real gardenia. It's very sharp yellow/white floral fragrance.

To me, the queen of all gardenias.

A French style creamy white floral gardenia. Although gardenia is the stated theme, the fragrance feels more like a white floral composition lifted collectively by ylang ylang, orange blossom, and jasmine. From the very beginning, the scent carries a creamy and powdery texture. This is not a green gardenia, nor a realistic interpretation filled with damp leaves and fresh stems. The overall impression leans toward a mature feminine style. People who prefer cool, transparent, heavily green gardenias may find it overly “composed” or stylized. On the other hand, those who enjoy creamy white florals, ylang ylang, powdery musk, and traditional French perfumery will probably understand its appeal much more easily. The opening and heart mainly revolve around the richness of layered white florals, with relatively little dramatic development. In the drydown, the powderiness becomes more pronounced. The florals gradually shift from a bright white impression into something warmer and closer to the skin. Although sandalwood is included, it never creates a dry woody effect. The composition remains centered on white florals and powdery musk throughout. Longevity and projection are moderate. As an everyday white floral fragrance, it is more wearable than expected.

Gardenia starts off w/ a big blast of very yellow banana like ylang. I really get a lot of ylang w/ this perfume. This is a pretty gardenia and tropical floral perfume, but I get a lot of rose mingling w/ those tropical florals at first, but she doesn't stay around long. This is animalic but not overly so. Animalic for beginners. Very traditional, pretty white and yellow floral. I like it but I have other fragrances like it. For my money the better white floral w/ gardenia in this line would be Sir Galahad or the Fleur Nocturne. They are much more unique. Fleur Nocturne is fleshy from peach and much brighter and my opinion more well rounded and not as linear. Sir Galahad is more romantic w/ warmth from tobacco, saffron and olibanum. Like a honeymoon in a bottle. While nice Gardenia smells like many other gardenia perfumes on the market. Very beautiful and well-crafted like all of these Isabey perfume's I have tried. But if you are looking for something unique in a white floral for this price point, I would put my money on either Sir Galahad or Fleur Nocturne.

I have a coffret set that contains 10ml. bottles from this fragrance line. I love them all, and some more than others (La Route, Tendre Nuit), but the issue I am having is that this fragrance is not indistinguishable enough from Lys Noir where I would want to purchase a fb. I thought they would be very different from each other considering the note profiles, but they seem to have some ingredient that makes them too much alike to me. Maybe it is the vanilla, though I'm not sure that is only it. Purchasing one would be like purchasing the other because they so closely resemble each other. That is the same issue I had with KK's white floral perfumes too, that there is something in the base that makes them smell alike to me, though this brand is head and shoulders above that brand and has much better silage and longevity. While I really like all that I tried, and think the florals are gorgeous, I'd rather put my money on La Route d'Emeraude, as I think that is the most unique white floral that I've tried out of this line.

A predominantly white floral with a streak of vivid yellow stemming from a luxuriant use of Ylang Ylang. Contrary to its name, this is definitely NOT Gardenia, but it is nonetheless an extraordinarily plush floral amber, that is velvety, and uber creamy. Isabey's "Gardenia" is a blatantly FEMME creation (with a huge, unapologetic, capital F) which leaves in its wake a sweet, sensuous, cashmere-like trail which will undoubtedly get noticed. It performs impressively, lasting hours on skin and longer on fabric. Thus quality wise, you definitely get what you pay for, just don't expect Gardenias. PS. This has the same feel and texture as vintage YSL Poison, but without its infamous "grape soda"🍇note. PS #2. If you want actual Gardenias, try Jeffrey Dame's wonderful Gardenia soliflore (like an olfactory portrait of a Gardenia, fatty butyric acid and all!) or even the insanely inexpensive Forever Florals Gardenia (not as photorealistic, but just as good). Both of these come MUCH closer to the real thing.

Mmmmm, this tropical white flower combination is so rich and creamy that it's more than borderline gourmand - without straying into sugary territory, it smells like gardenia flavored ice cream, if there were such a wonderful thing in the world! In the opening there's a distinctly clean, soapy aspect as well, and as it dries down it becomes more heady and boozy, but that lovely creamy sweetness is the essence of this fragrance, I think. I don't tend to seek out white florals, although I do like them, so I don't have many gardenia scents to compare this one to, but I can definitely believe those on this page who claim this is one of the best out there. It lasts all day as well, and it projects very nicely. Another addition to my (decant) wish list - I was pleasantly surprised by how much I like this.

I bought a sample because I love the smell of gardenia, but....it reminded me of another wonderful perfume that I have. I was almost shocked....: L'Instant de Guerlain Fleur de Mandarine! I guess it's the orange thing that is simular in both of the perfumes. In the one of Isabey it's the African orange flower and in the Guerlain's it's the mandarine and bitter orange. They really smell quite the same, except Isabey's seems to have the Gardenia in it which I unfortenately don't smell that much though.... But in spite of the missing and outspoken Gardenia smell is this one from Isabey also gorgious in a very classy, classic and some kind of chique 50ties way...

This is a gem, gardenia is my favourite flower to smell. I'm a person who wants to live with excess and this scent is perfect. I hate fake smells or anything artificial but this really reminds me of the flowers blooming. Its so sensual and luxurious. This has a slight powdery finish, soft and delicate white floral. It is extremely expensive, I got this as a graduation present. I've had it for two years and I wear it on special occasions, the scent hasn't changed in the bottle and I make sure to keep it in the dark. I also have Kai which is similar but I still prefer Isabey.

I thank all the reviewers before me; you made me curious enough, so I took the risk and bought this perfume untried. And I'm so glad I did! It's really one of the warmest, softest smells I have encountered so far. On my skin I get only a little gardenia, but a lot of georgeous jasmine and iris, accompanied by some other fresh white flowers. Someone here called the perfume "velvety"; that's exactly what it is to me. It's like wearing a comfortably heavy shawl of dreamy, creamy white flowers. The base is lovely, cosy and warm with sandalwood and lasts very, very long on me.

This is a blend of several white flowers and one yellow - most noticable for me is ylang ylang with its earthy mushroomy quality, but also budding gardenia all sparkly like pear popsicles, and orange flower bringing in a hint of citrus. Sweet but also refreshing. M. Micallef Gardenia is much warmer, creamier, sweeter, a little powdery and almost overripe gardenia leaning tuberose. I recommend it to people looking for a sweeter, more tropical, more gourmand-leaning and more true to its name gardenia.

I am impressed! I should have suspected from that gorgeous amber coloured juice, but I was ready to write this one off as an uneventful gardenia. Well it's a honey dripping, spicy, indolic gardenia, lots of ylang and oriental goodness, plus that citrus twist to make it sparkle. Very light, very much iris indeed. When I smell it, I see how the night comes in to the garten where the irises grow. The moonlight is shining, I can hear the romantic melody and I see how the night touches the ground, the flowers and covers with tenderness sweet little iris with dew drops. What was unexpected is that it is pretty light for parfume, though has a good staying power.

A powdery, sweet white floral fragrance. It's not an overpowering powdery floral, but a delicate one. Very beautiful projection, but I wouldn't say it's creamy or smooth. Reminds me of a soap that I can't recall the name of, but don't take that in the wrong way... It's a beautiful fragrance, but doesn't stand out enough for me to buy a full bottle.

I've bought this perfum after a friend's suggestion.I love the fresh gardenia's perfum but i can not find it here.On my skin it's only ylang ylang,nothing else. Very logng longevity and sillage ,too much for me!I think it's the perfect fragrance for a party summer,in the evening on the sea dancing calypso!Certnaly not a moorning fragrance

so my ml sample bottle while I was trying to apply this perfume and the perfume fell all over my arms. I noticed that someone said that it should be applied judiciously, I guess that is one thing I didn't do. I do like it, but all I get is gardenia.

Quite well done floral-powdery feminine fragrance. It is subtle, versatile and sophisticated. Miles better than the majority of sweet-mass appealing-nondescript feminine fragrances that girls tend to wear. 8/10

A pleasant dip into creamy white florals. Soft and feminine, unlike a lot of other white florals that are sharp and unbearable. A white floral that's classy and says "sweet Southern Belle."

A very beautiful light sweet and creamy blend of otherwise very intense flower scents. It makes you think of blonde or honey colours, and sunlight. Use sparingly.

Creamy, powdery like a luxury dress shop in the late fifties. Not really the scent of gardenias, more a spicy sandalwood bouquet.

Reviewing an official Isabey sample from 2025. Gardenia Eau de Perfume was launched in the 1920's with the most recent documented reformulation in 2006. This is a light very powdery floral that falls short of evoking the scent of real gardenia. Gardenia opens with soft citrus, orange blossom and Ylang-Ylang. This is followed by a blend of old fashioned powdery florals over a light ambery/musk very synthetic base. The fragrance improves somewhat over time as the jasmine shows it's indolic undertones. Quality- average to poor Feminine Performance- average to poor This is now an unoriginal and dated powdery floral fragrance which has likely been further reformulated/ over diluted since 2006. Please note that this is the Eau de Parfum and there is an Extrait de Parfum (2014) which may perform better. I also wonder if some of the positive reviews are based on the extrait version rather than this powdery watered down nonsense. I would have loved to sample the original Gardenia by Isabey so adored by many. Unfortunately, as some previous reviewers have already accurately noted this no longer exists unless you can find a vintage bottle or try the extrait. 5/10 Edit: I tried this elsewhere and found it weak and synthetic as noted above. The extrait is better.

I've been on a bit of a white floral bender. I purchased a bunch of sizable samples with gardenia as a primary floral note. I hope to locate "another" gardenia fragrance that resonates with me beyond Narciso Rodriguez Narciso EDP "White Cube." I sampled Loree Rodkin "Gothic III," Farmacia Annunziata "Spleen Fever," Parfums de Nicolai "Kiss Me Intense," Montale "Intense Tiare," Elysian "Black Gardenia," Les Eaux Primoridales "Gardenia Supercritique" and Isabey "Gardenia." To my nose, Isabey "Gardenia" is the most realistic version of a gardenia flower bush that I sampled out of the bunch. And despite having many other floral notes, Isabey Gardenia performs as a slightly indolic, full-floral experience resplendent with the natural fragrance of gardenias. Isabey Gardenia is a nice enough fragrance. However, I prefer gardenia fragrances with a bit more development and depth than what I experience with Isabey Gardenia. To this end, I find Isabey Gardenia a bit boring.

Very interesting perfume...When I first smelled this, I was like "wow"The opening notes are Just so Lovely and very unique.. I suddenly felt like I'm a princess..:D but After 15-20 min It settles in to very creamy gardenia with very sweet scent like Honey which I really can't stand :( This is such a beautiful scent and you can get the Gardenia note prominently ..People who can wear this one, This one is a true winner!!!

Just received my sample and was so excited to try it. I'm in my 30s and THIS is absolutely a mature perfume!! OMG. It makes me think of an elderly lady who uses tons of powder on her face. It's very floral and powdery, not modern at all.
