Fleurs d'Ombre/Ombre Bleue

I second HyacinthBucket and curleykitty8 reviews. The original version of this scent had nothing in common with this version. I can't believe there are 2 variations of this fragrance listed on Fragrantica, and neither are the original 1987 version created by Michael Almairac. Nor is Michael even credited on Fragrantica's Perfumer's page with creating the original version of this scent, but he is credited on Brosseau's website. It would have been helpful if Fragrantica had included that information. Trying to find out the notes of the Almairac version seems to be lost to history, but it is nothing like either version of Ombre Bleue on this site. The one listed on this page wore like a beachy aquatic floral on me. The original Michael Almairac version is not a fruity floral. Nor is it a beachy or aquatic scent. It is a heady and deep white floral on a creamy balsamic and powdery vanilla base. According to one blog post I read while searching for the notes of the original version, the author claimed (though gave no definitive proof) that the notes are jasmine, orange blossom, green notes, tiare, carnation, honey, sandalwood, vanilla, benzoin and musk. While I'm no expert, that is certainly closer to what I smell than the notes listed here, or for that matter, the notes of the other version, Ombre Bleue. It is really a headscratcher why the original Almairac formula was changed, since it is a very modern, niche level fragrance. It's not vintage or dated at all. It's a gorgeous, creamy white floral that could be mistaken for a Franchesca Bianci or Pissara Umavijan creation, or any other perfumer specializing in niche big white floral creations, if released today. From what I understand, at one-point the Brosseau perfume line was acquired by another company and that's when all the fragrances were reformulated. Supposedly, Brosseau bought the line back from the company that acquired it to return the fragrances to their original formulas because he was upset with what that company had done to them. I don't know how true that is or not, since there is not much information about it. I've read that Proctor and Gamble had acquired it and somewhere else that Dana had acquired it. Whatever the case, if Brosseau did set about returning the fragrances to their original state, then I don't understand why he didn't return Ombre Bleue back to the original Michael Almairac creation. Instead, he just copied the notes of the reformulated version and renamed the fragrance Fleurs d'Ombre Bleue. That's very odd and has me wondering if Brosseau found that doing so would be too costly. Looking at the original note profile that wouldn't be a surprise, but it is too bad because the original version really was unique, while the later reformulations are generic by comparison. Now as to other differences between this and later editions, the original 1987 formula’s liquid color, as HyacinthBucket pointed out, was gold, not blue, and as curlykitty8 pointed out, was in a rectangular bottle with an embossed design that could easily be mistaken for a Lalique bottle, though it is not. That was one of the few sure things I was able to find out when researching the original version of this perfume.

Reviewing a vintage 1990 EDT bottle from the first production(square bottle, gold liquid not blue). Ombre Bleue was originally created in 1987 as an expensive beach fragrance. The perfumers are Michel Almairac and Pierre Bourdon. In the mid 1990's it was reformulated, put into an octagonal bottle (the same style used for Ombre Rose) and artificially tinted the liquid bright blue, re-branding it as Fleurs d’Ombre Bleue. It was again reformulated and relaunched in 2022. The relaunched version bears no comparison to either of the two previous iterations. Vintage Ombre Bleue is a wonderful solar floral that is evocative of summer on the French Riviera in the 60's & 70's. It is a fairly linear scent with prominent orange blossom and a touch of clove from carnation. There is a smooth blend of florals with interesting beachy humidity ?benzyl salicylate and helional . Thankfully no / little aggressive calone. A touch of honey over ambery benzoin and soft cedarwood. It is soft and warm, not powdery at all - it actually feels dewy as if you are by the sea or in a greenhouse. Nostalgic and transportive yes, but not vintage except that you cannot find any solar floral with this depth and richness today. Quality: 4.5/5 excellent materials and blending Feminine Performance: 5/5 for an EDT it has excellent sillage and lasts 6-8 hours Vintage L'Ombre Bleue is for when you want to smell like Brigitte Bardot wearing only a bikini and the most classy french floral suntan lotion. I first came upon this rare gem as part of a box of packaged mini perfume samples from 1989. I had never heard of it before but after sampling, I definitely needed to know more. I searched and finally found a full bottle of the original on EBay from 1990. L'eau de Monteil is an alternative as it has definite similarities .Perhaps L'eau was influenced by the earlier Brosseau creation. Ombre Bleue however has more depth and complexity. *Do not buy the blue tinted newer version. Fragrantica has lumped the old and new versions together for reviews :( 9.5/10

I don’t know what everyone’s saying ... I get the sand & sea salt notes. It’s definitely truly beachy. My bottle may be well preserved, 1987 original. It’s exquisite. I get the spicy carnation, lots of sandalwood, sweet dried fruits & honey in background ... manages to actually bring on the heat, like cool waves & salt meet with hot sand, spice, almost rich humid hazy florals. I’m wearing it for fun tonight, my signature for tonight anyway. 😎 ... Just what I needed for the weekend. I live by the lake. & I’m craving the turn of the season into lake time. 🌊 This is the most artful 80s masterpiece in my little collection. It really takes me to that time & a luxury vacation somewhere in France.

I recently found at a Paris clear market a small bottle of the vintage Parfum, pale gold in color and in the old square bottle. This is in the grande dame of perfume category- balanced orange blossom, lots of carnation, and a nice spice note. Powdery and sweet, like the lilting of Hawthorn, but not overly so, and with excellent balance. The base is amber-vanillin atop a restrained wood, With no sand or sea notes, at least in the modern sense. This is an excellent interpretation of "carnation". Seek out the vintage version!

This is another treasure that was found. I do get a breezy, sand, marine feel along with the oh so familiar oomph that 80s fragrances have. It also reminds me of my really early childhood. It also has a soapy, out of the shower quality to it also that isn't overpowering. This one I wish didn't get discontinued because it is really really good. Also somewhat powdery. Its kind of like Classique by JPG and Je Reviens by Worth had a baby. This is an 80s scent that should have been given more attention.

This is truly a masterpiece. It is simply gorgeous and has great sillage for a floral scent that opens and evolves into a treasure. The carnation opening is floral fresh along with the lesser lily of the valley and jasmine, but it dries down into the amber, benzoin and unusal unique warm sand notes. It lingers forever and is a classic that's hard to find. I found a sealed vintage bottle. What a deal!!!!! For perfume lovers like me, it is a definite addition to your collection. WOW!

This review is for Ombre Bleue before they started adding blue dye and calling it Fleurs d'Ombre Bleue. I have the perfume with yellow juice from the late 80's. I do not know where people are getting aquatic notes unless the formula has changed. I get an intoxicating, honeyed orange blossom, white floral, sunny, possibly suntan lotion beach type scent. Mine is a heady fragrance with enormous sillage. It is heavenly but there is nothing light, fresh or aquatic about it. The new one must be an entirely different perfume.

On me this is mostly just flowers especially in the opening - it has a somwhat fatty feel to it that I usually connect with tuberrose (I could swear there a some of that in it). After drydown the aquatique and sandy notes appears. At this stage I feel it is very similar to my favorite aquaticqe perfume L'eau de monteil. Godd vaule for money - dont need much and stays on forever.

I mostly get dried fruit, jasmine and honey from this one. No sea, no sand, no beach here...not for me, in any case. It's a slightly musty perfume, and though that can never be a compliment, there's something about this perfume that's quite alluring. It's comforting somehow. My review is all contradictory! I like this fragrance, but not sure if I really want to wear it!

I tried this one at an outlet store, and I hate to be so negative but it truly smelled awful. The juice looks like windex and the smell is not too far off from ammonia window cleaner. Really strong chemical smelling and very harsh and sharp,I really can't imagine anyone smelling like this. Maybe I got a bad bottle but the tester looked new. I could not decipher one note, its not floral its not woody, just a mess. Honestly the worst fragrance I have ever smelled. Proceed with extreme caution.

This is nothing like the beauty that was the original Ombre Bleue. This is a mess of powdered florals. The original was a twin to L'Eau De Monteil; a gorgeous marine white floral. I was not expecting this gargantuan laundry soap scent when I bought this disaster of a "remake." If you loved the original - stay far away from this!

Oh wow. Not what I was expecting whatsoever. This smells exactly like plasticine. The oil based kind. I'm not against it actually, given it is a very nostalgic scent from me. I loved making figurines with plasticine as a kid. It was the first thing I would do coming back from school and often the last thing I'd be doing before I went to bed. More than an hour a day. Easily. For some 10-12 years. And it takes me right back. Not sure about the beachiness. Perhaps without my personal association I would be interpreting the muddy, slightly animalic, clay-like notions as sand. It gets slightly less pungent and more rubbery as it dries. Softer and slightly flowery but I don't really know if I can make lily or carnation at all really. It's just my eleven year old hands, covered with a mildly visible, waxy film of plasticine, before I went to wash them with soap and it would wash off by pilling in small bits. Beautiful bottle like others have mentioned, and the dreamily unnatural powerade-blue juice is very complimentary to the glasswork itself. I don't know what else to say, a bit shocked. Stays close to the skin it appears, but this is only my first impression. Clay, mineral oil, petrichor, animalic notes, and faint, non descript flowers and something green, just "something green". Amber and honey are slightly there I guess.

I tried this at a discount store many years ago, was ambiv alent about it and put it aside for 15 years or so, there was something really strong and intense about it. I sold my bottle on ebay for a great profit about 2 years ago and well, I started wondering about it and today I received a new bottle from ebay at a really low price. The first minute or so is very chemical and unpleasant....then it becomes very soft and beautiful. Carnation is the only flower I can pick out, the rest are faint and in the background. There is a creamy vanilla and cedar scent that is warm and comforting.All troughout there is a scent that eludes me, strong and intoxicating, loud, it is what put me off on the original vintage bottle and yet it is why I bought it in the first place (and the gorgeous deep blue bottle) This note is present in vintage Blue Grass and was in the Original Je Reviens. I can't get enough of it, yet I don't know if I really like it or what it is. So I will wear this for myself and enjoy the mystery. This does not last that long on me as nothing really does any more. It is an experiment and takes time to decide how it makes you feel. Certainly it is NOT BORING!

There should be two separate postings for this lovely fragrance. A definite nod to Hyacinth Bucket's review that concurs with mine which follows. Mine will review the older version which is housed in the most exquisitely etched rectangular bottle with a round stopper. It looks like a Lalique bottle, that is how gorgeous it is! I've had the perfume for a while and never opened it until the other day, deciding to break the seal. I seriously have never smelled anything like Fleurs d'Ombre Bleu and that is saying something quite substantial since my perfume sniffing career has been an ample one! Perhaps the best word to describe this incredible perfume is "opulent" because it is so rich in notes and layers of loveliness that are nuanced and truly beautiful. Despite having spent many hours on the beach in my lifetime, FdOB does not evoke any nostalgic feelings of sun and sand, rather a huge bouquet of extremely fragrant, creamy, spicy and lavish flowers. Nothing green nor fresh, not aquatic nor solar.... the additional notes of honey, benzoin, amber, etc bring a perfect sweetness and warmth to the already dreamy bouquet. A gem.

Ombre Bleue starts on my skin like a totally aquatic scent: very fresh(lily-of-the-valley, not citrus-y, but with that powdery nutty note one can find in numerous aquatics(certainly orange blossom, here enhanced by carnation, in others by ylang-ylang or quince) - I'm actually referring to that tannin sensation . I can think of so many perfumes similar to this beginning! Anyway, it's not unpleasant in this stage (I usually can't stand that tannin feel). Later on, the middle notes start to sweeten the mixture; I can feel jasmine and dried fruits, while the honey is kept inoffensive, but still noticeable(I am sensitive to this note too). In about four hours, lo and behold: the benzoin that I really enjoy, side by side with some amber and vanilla! So nice and yummy! The "floral" classification must be only a synthesis of aquatic+oriental, as I don't feel as if I were in a garden when sniffing this soft perfume. Considering its delicacy and its initial freshness, the name tells most of the story: Ombre Bleue...

LOVE this scent.....have been wearing it for more years than I can recall and always receive compliments from both men and women on it. It's feminine, sexy and easy to wear both daytime and evening.
