English Oak & Redcurrant

This is a fabulous perfume ! Fresh juicy ,aromatic and natural smelling. To me it feels like there is a definite patchouli note in here. In fact when I smelled it first it felt like a rose patch scent to me. It starts of very juicy and fresh ,sour sweet red currant with a hint of rose. The rose soon becomes dominant and the woody aspect just adds depth and warmth. There is a nice cologne like aftershave feel to it ,a men’s cologne vibe, which I enjoy. It’s refreshing and beautiful ,really well done and not as flowery as some other JMs I own. Definite unisex but some lady’s may find it too masculine for their taste. However it’s not dirty and deep and manly it’s more like a sweet,juicy fresh rose cologne if that makes any sense. I own quite a few JMs and this is one of my favourites. I have not yet tried the englischen oak and hazelnut but I am tempted to blind buy it although most reviews say it’s more on the masculine side. Which doesn’t scare me off. GREAT SMELL that works all year round ! As a reference ,other JMs I love Wood sage and sea salt Nectarine blossom and honey Poppy and barley Honeysuckle & Davana From the intense line I mostly enjoy Velvet rose oud and the discontinued iris and white musk.

It was a strange love at first sight for me. Firstly I was drawn by this interesting combination of notes. I usually am sick and tired of fruity notes in fragrances but this is quite an elegant combo. At first strike, it shows woody, masculine facete. A little bit fresh and energetic, jumpy. But not fresh as generic man's aftershave for young boys wannabe grownup men. Not at all! Just a soft moist and lively oak wood. Then, just at the right time, the rose starts to show up, balancing everything so it's masculine and feminine at the same time, stops it from going too fruity and infantile and form going too blunt and roughly woody and sour. I find it pleasant for any time of the day and year. Very long lasting on the skin with or without additional moisturization. Absolutely fantastic woody fragrance! It reminds me of Narciso Rodriguez elegance in fragrances, a bit musky.

I received a tester of both English Oak & Hazelnut, English oak & Redcurrant! My JM counter in Oberhausen Germany just informed me that I was one of the lucky ones who will receive both fragrances in 30 ml as a special gift! I have tested the English Oak & Redcurrant last Saturday. First spray on my skin, it was sweet fresh and fruty. I would consider it very similar to Grpefruit and Pomegranate noir, but not as complex. It is a fresh simple fragrance which is very Jo Malone. After a few minutes in the dry down, the woods come out! Very subtle & shy English Oak! I love it! * Since Rose is listed on the main notes list, I would say that it is not totally a floral scent, more fruity fresh scent for me.

This has been my favorite fall/winter scent for the past two years. An addictive, fresh and spicy concoction of crisp woods and sour yet flirty redcurrants that become this beautiful, refreshing scent. A tiny hint of spicy powder. Very natural and down to earth yet sophisticated. A very multi-use scent as it feels fresh enough to be a day scent as well as mysterious enough to be worn in the evening. Good longevity. A very natural but noticable scent with zero sweetness, unlike many other perfumes which rely heavily on sugary notes. Can be unisex but to me this is more feminine. The English oak and hazelnut is also lovely and has more masculine notes.

The opening is super pleasant and I get red currant which is a very berry and fruity note. It ́s starts of as a very happy and fruity scent, quite bold. Then it transforms into a beautiful delicate rose, it ́s not a seductive rose.... more delicate, young and fresh and much complemented by the red currant. After a few minutes the red currant disappears and the rose is left together with the oak as a base... very very beautiful 💟 In my opinion this i s a very successful combination which I like a lot 😍 almost a LOVE! As someone else mentioned - GREAT SMELL that works all year round! It ́s a compliment getter.

This smells like the entrance to EPCOT at Disney World, which has beautiful oak trees between the parking lots and the entrance. I’m thinking about spraying a little of this in the dirt to see if an oak tree sprouts out of the ground. This and English Oak & Hazelnut are excellent representations of the trees that I loved to climb growing up and love to see the wind blowing through the Spanish moss along the riverside. It’s nice when you can be anywhere and nowhere at all and still smell something as if you’re right there. This is really, really nice.

THis is becoming one of my favourite Jo Malone colognes. It is spring here in Australia and it is a lovely scent to wear in this weather. I mix it with Blackberry and Bay and it is divine. Yes, it does remind me of Diptyque's L Ombre Dans L'Eau (which I also love). I love the tanginess of the redcurrant note. Lovely and fresh for warm weather. Other combinations I like are with Basil and Neroli and also wood sage and sea salt.

I absolutely love this and hope to own it one day! This is a scent I could use up in no time, it's just that comfortable to me. It's worthy of any occasion and perfect to make everyone wonder what she smells like without knowing...and wanting to keep smelling it!

I'm not a fan of fruity fragrances other than fig but I must say this is a real winner. Woodsy, fresh and bright. Beautiful bitter, crisp opening that really impressed me. Both women and men can wear this comfortably.

This was a blind buy, and it did not disappoint. it's light and sophisticated, a beautiful combination of fruit and wood, filled out with rose. it doesn't last very long on me, but i ain't mad about it.

Wow. Very addictive scent. Garner compliments from people around you. Purchased for about 60% discount at philippine airport.

I love this fragrance but it's ashamed that it's discontinued.

Because people have different tastes. Some people want to smell like candle or room spray; some people want to smell like they've been baking all day; some want to smell like forest trees or wild flowers; some wants to smell like they came from the beach (with a little sweat); some wants to smell like leather or animals; some want to smell like incense or potpourri; some live for oud and some detest it... There is no need for such question—You either appreciate it, learn to appreciate it, or don't. For me, I don't like metallic scents and that's my PREFERENCE; I also don't want to smell like "just another guy wearing a typical cologne" but I don't find them stinky and don't question their choices. Society may limit our way of thinking (like "perfume" is for women, aldehyde is for old ladies, and only girls can wear fruity-florals), but you don't have to limit yourself :)

English Oak & Redcurrant has a deep, mossy woodiness to it that I find wonderful, as well as a prominent juicy tartness from the berries. And then the rose note rounds it all out and tames it slightly. It makes me think of an Edwardian manor house with an ancient mossy oak that’s grown up huge and tall beside the back corner of the house. The oak has rosebushes growing at its base, and there’s a thick hedge of red current running slightly wild along the property wall. EO&R smells like nature that’s been somewhat cultivated, but is still earthy and alive. It’s a beautiful scent but not necessarily a pretty one. It smells contemplative and unselfconscious, like an adult woman who climbs up into a tree when she needs to think.

Many might say this unisex fragrance leans more on the "masculine" end of the spectrum. But there is a time and place for every type of scent. Or at least that's what I believe. I don't wear this often on its own, but I haven't found a fragrance yet that I didn't like layering with this (right now it's Roses de Chloe). On me it starts off a bit sharp and sour but settles down after 10 min and the oak comes out really obviously...and just keeps on coming. This scent stays on my skin and clothes all day. Actually I find all the Jo Malone frags I own very long-lasting and I'm baffled by people saying they have poor longevity. I guess we're all different. Good thing there are thousands of fragrances to choose from!!

Beautiful, but not long-lasting, even by Jo Malone's standards. I could not get this to stay on me with any projection at all--after 2 hours it became more or less a skin scent. The oak note is unusual, and the tart redcurrant opening is succeeded later by a rose note. This is a very English fragrance... if only it lasted longer, it would be fantastic. I am confused by those complaining below that this is not a strictly feminine fragrance, because it has been clearly marketed to both men and women. This is perfectly unisex, as it announces itself to be.

I didn’t like it when I first bought it, I kept it and take it out to try every now and then. About ten times later I start to like it. I found that this is the only perfume I can use when I am sick/ nauseous/ extremely sleepy, you know when you are not feeling too well, all your favorite perfume / food/ wine they become not that tasty and then make you more sick. I don’t use this JM red current and oat alone, but it’s definitely helping me a lot in different situations, I don’t think I can be without it in my collection.

I oversprayed it because it is a cologne but... I dont know if it is the overspraying or the fabric of my clothes (pullover), i was able to smell it after 5+ hours! I wasnt expecting it at all. It is really office friendly, even overspraying didnt give me headache. About the scent; i smell oak and rose mostly, not sure about red currant. Fresh cut oak. Not like a white floral or fruity fragrance, it's classy in my opinion. This is what I call safe fragrance, you can wear anytime anywhere.

I was looking for English Oak and Hazelnut, but it was out of stock, and this one was available. So, I ended up getting this. This one is nice with prominent fruity accord. Unisex and versatile enough without being generic. Red currant or raspberry like scent is there till drydown, with oak is whispering at the background. Performance-wise is good enough with several spritz on skin and several on clothes. It lasts the whole office hours. I am quite happy with English Oak and Redcurrant.
