MY MY MY! Another underrated juice due to its celebrity brand. I bought the 1oz, and after smelling it - I went online and secured the 1.7oz... this stuff is too good and will be gone really soon! It starts out with a sickly sweet and pungent lacquer accord. The sweetness is very similar to sweetness Red Delicious for Men by DKNY. The lacquer accord has been referred to as a "paint smell" and that's quite accurate. The chemical lacquer accord remains this way for a good 20-40 minutes. Once the lacquer accord fades away, you're left with a smooth and decadent berry milk-chocolate goodness rounded out with a soft vanilla (tonka + amber combo). All this is laid upon a frame of a deep suede and leather accord. There's only a slight gourmand touch. It's totally masculine, in my opinion and wholly unique. The projection is average, but the longevity is outstanding! Hours upon hours of goodness! If this was packaged in those thin vertical shaped bottles with a spherical cap under the Serge Lutens brand, it would sell like hotcakes! I highly recommend! Get your bottle before it's too late!

I picked this up on discount and I have to say this is one amazing fragrance. Please do not judge a fragrance by it's branding. I wear fragrances for their overall smell and how well they perform on me. Longevity and projection are excellent. I put this on before work and through out the day with a couple of hours apart I got two compliments. Seems that this appeals more to the older women than the younger. Very masculine, spicy, leathery, Sexy, fragrance you cannot go wrong with especially the price. To my nose it's very comparable to calvin klein's encounter maybe D&G the one but not the longevity issues. Find it, buy it, and enjoy.

My perception of celebrity fragrances couldnt get much worse. I swapped a bottle of MIP for this - strictly due to the note breakdown (and because i never wore MIP). I'll say this - regardless to what name is on this bottle, it is easily my favorite scent that i've smelled - niche, designer or otherwise. Tart, robust blackberry with a dusty sweetened leather and amber accord to back it up - it's phenomenal. i'm glad i ignored my instinct on this. 8/10

I love this. It lasts forever and projects very well. For some reason, I get an oddly high number of compliments on this one from other guys. "No homo, your cologne smells great" I guess that's a good sign... especially if you are homo...

It's Friday June 17, 2022 and Dua Fragrances just released their version. Won't have it until late next week, but wanted to pass along the information incase someone is looking for this discontinued gem.

i really like this scent, it's sweet but in a different way and havent really found anything that smells quite like it

Just got my nose on this today. It starts out with a sharp spicy woodiness that's harsh but tolerable, then dries down to a leathery sweet blackberry vanilla accord. Overall much better in the drydown, people who aren't fans of spicy openings will not like this at all but if you can wait for the drydown, it's totally worth it. A bit pricy considering it only comes in 1 oz bottles retail. I did get an immediate compliment however!

This is probably not the best cologne ever, but it's my favorite I've tried so far. It's got good sticking power, and you only need one or two spritz to have a solid scent. the other votes say it's got a really high sillage, but Nobody has told me they smell it from too far away. The leather is good and the chocolate is good, it does smell a little sweet, but no so much that it seems unmasculine.

The notes sound great! I am SO looking forward to this! Don't know much about the guy, but that's not why I wear fragrances. Haha. : )

I agree with saint James review. There is an awful sharp note that makes you step back and go "what the heck is that?!" I think it's the balsam mixed with the leather and it lasts for the entire life of the fragrance on the skin. I normally like gourmand sweet fragrances so I thought I'd enjoy the chocolate note and i can definitely smell it but it smells very artificial! This fragrance notes just don't work together very well making it a sharp and overwhelming fragrance. Disappointing because I had high hopes for those notes...

I'm just posting my review that I originally wrote in May of 2016 and somehow forgot to post here: This is definitely one of those unexpected gems that pop up from time to time along the lines of 24 Gold and Bentley Intense (not that it smells anything like them). Phoenix made me wince a little bit the first time I smelled it. It opens with something that smells kind of like paint thinner. At first I thought maybe my bottle was off, but it's not, it's just a quirky little accord in the opening that you get used to pretty quickly and come to actually enjoy over time. Beneath this turpentine note is blackberry, dark and fruity, with plenty of heft and substance. That's how Phoenix begins for the first half hour or so, wherein the turpentine transitions into a boozy cognac, and dark chocolate and suede begin to emerge in the base. What's nice about Phoenix is that it's very well-balanced. The chocolate, while noticeable and an important component of the scent, never becomes too prominent. The same goes for the booze and the leather. As far as the suede is concerned, it's of the clean, smooth variety and adds a bit of a rugged, masculine edge to the fragrance. Phoenix is dark, but never dirty. Sweet with its berries and chocolate, but never gourmand. It's smells like a proper fragrance--not something you'd eat or drink, and not a novelty perfume meant to replicate a leather jacket or piece of furniture. This should wear well for anybody in any age range and seems fairly versatile as far as occasions are concerned. It's comfortable and relaxed, but also well polished, and seems appropriate for an evening out. Performance is very good, with solid projection and longevity around 8 hours plus. Unfortunately this is discontinued, though it's still widely available online and usually for a reasonable price. Thumbs up. Side Note: I'm not sure about that last part. I have no idea if this is still widely available online or for a reasonable price. The rest of my opinion reflected in this review stands. EDIT: As I've noticed while perusing eBay, this is going anywhere for $175 for 1oz. to $300 for a full 100ml. That doesn't mean anyone is paying this much...or should pay that much. Phoenix is a really good fragrance, and it's pretty unique, but I wouldn't pay over $120 for a 100ml or more than $50 for 1oz, $80 for 1.7. That's just my opinion, but it's about where I would place this fragrance in terms of price and in its context as a discontinued celebrity scent.

Only my third time wearing this, so this is subject to an edit. Probably not, though. I'll explain. First 20 Minutes: Melty Hershey's chocolate, an incredibly crisp blackberry, and wet paint. Seriously the strangest take on a suede note to ever smack me in the olfactory bulb. Silage is crazy. Original formulation Joop! Homme crazy. Be forewarned! 20 Minutes - 1 Hour: The wet paint note definitely settles down and this actually turns into an incredibly balanced, sexual, incredibly masculine fragrance. Slightly musky, boozy, chocolaty, spicy. These 40 minutes are pure enjoyment and amount to one of my favorite experiences with a fragrance. Silage is heavy but not overpowering. Maybe 12-14". 1 Hour - 2 Hours: This starts to dry into something very similar to Calvin Klein One Shock for Men, but (and I'm aware that this isn't a listed note) there's this black currant tone to it and, of course, a subtle musky/leathery vibe that carries it which CK1 Shock doesn't have. Very similar "holiday spice" vibe, though. Very pleasant. Silage deteriorates slightly. Maybe 5-6" projection. 2 Hours - 4 Hours: Holy dry down... A bourbon/vanilla blast emerges, the blackberry/chocolate combo finally harmonize into this sweet, creamy, unabashedly sexual bomb that actually projects farther than the end of the mid notes. Maybe 6-8". 5 Hours+ : Pretty much the same as the initial few hours of dry down, but the silage slowly dies off. It probably fully died at 8 hours, because the only way I could smell it was to literally push my nose into my wrist at the end of the work day. Fantastic fragrance. Nothing about it is linear, nothing about it is boring, and EVERYTHING about this screams, "I am a man and you KNOW what I'm here for!" I could even see the paint note growing on me. This could easily be a niche fragrance if it wasn't celebrity endorsed and if it cost roughly $200 for a 1.7 fl oz. Luckily, it's available at your local Wal-Mart for somewhere around $20. If you are a man, you need this fragrance. Ladies, if you want to buy your man a fragrance that will make you literally want to take a fork and knife to his arm and devour him, purchase this fragrance. New signature. Screw the hate. ...PS Keith Urban's music is God awful. Just so we're clear.

I agree that this is better than bargain bin prices, so if you see it there I say grab one. It reminds me of a toned down Taste of Fragrance with a kind of varnished leather note added, though the blackberry is noticeable at first. I never got cognac, and this is not an outright gourmand, though there is a mild chocolate note. It's more of a niche idea, actually, and it doesn't have any of the "usual suspects" one often finds in "cheapos," such as metallic woods, laundry musk, plastic amber, etc. It's only a little sweet and it's not syrupy at all, so I'd say this is more for the aficionado who knows what he (or she) is seeking - I'd say it's unisex for those women who enjoy leather scents. A note in here reminds me of half pipe tobacco (seems to be quite a bit of tonka in here) and half chili powder - quite interesting! UPDATE: I used an extra spray and I am even more impressed with this one, which I value at a niche level. By contrast, I view the two McGraw scents I've tried, at a lesser level, for example if I were asked to compare the original McGraw to the original Michael for Men by Kors. I don't know who K. Urban is, but I noticed this was not made by the usual "cheapo" companies, so the company that created this one apparently decided to go the extra distance and make something memorable. UDPATE #2: In some ways, this is like a "modernized" Bogart Pour Homme (the one with a lot of tonka), with blackberry and chocolate replacing lily and rose This one, though, never gets cloying, as BPH can over time. There's probably a niche scent similar to this one, and I'd guess Pure Tonka is a bit similar too!

I always get a little thrill whenever I discover a cheapie fragrance that smells great, is high quality, and performs well, and Phoenix is one of those fragrances for me. Phoenix starts off with a sharp, somewhat synthetic pang of lacquer/varnish and blackberry. I love fragrances that play around with nuances that are intentionally artificial and industrial, so I enjoy the way the varnish note smells. After a few minutes I can pick up on the woods, cocoa, and cognac. This fragrance has great sillage but is slightly short-lived. I would definitely recommend wearing this fragrance with a light hand, and not overspraying to try to compensate for the short longevity. The lacquer note at the beginning seems to have an exponential effect on itself when you spray too much, and it's very sharp and headache-inducing when overdone. I really like the vibe and feel of this fragrance. It's very masculine and outdoorsy but also stylish and sophisticated and even plays with synthetic tones. For such an inexpensive fragrance it's an enormous bang for your buck.

This frag does not live up to the hype. All of the notes mentioned are pretty noticeable on my skin. At first spritz there's a very sharp note that annoys me. It is the same note in Tim Mcgraw's frag. It hangs around for about 45 minutes; waaay to long for me to get to the basenotes. I could clearly smell the chocolate in the middle. I liked it but that doggoned sharp note...ugh. In McGraw's scent the note I hate dissipates after approximately 30 mins. It drys down to a beautiful skin scent. Phoenix is too sweet for my taste and that dreaded note lives all way through. Not for me.

Really quite a nice little fragrance, and worth picking up if you see it on sale. It's sweet with a good dose of bourbon and vanilla thrown in and lasts for ages. I read in a magazine that Keith's favorite fragrance is Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille, and that does seem a more approriate choice for him than this fragrance which is probably a little young for a mature male. It would be more appropriate choice for the lean and youthful Keith who appeared in Playgirl in 1991 as opposed to the well quaffed and stylised performer that Keith is today.

The cowboy atop his horse looks out across the drizzly morning canyon. He sneezes and takes a bottle of cough syrup out of his saddle bag. Lightning flashes, his horse rears up... cough syrup on wet leather! The opening of this fragrance is sweet, resinous, camphorous and kind of medicinal. This is mixed with leather, making it quite unusual. I have the same feeling about the opening of Kanon Agarwood, which though not necessarily identical, I find to be similarly disconcerting, in a pleasant way.

Oh no, smelled this today while considering it as a potential gift for my boyfriend- and... I was disappointed. Yuck at first smell, indeed. It was sharp and very Stetson Man-esque, uber cheap smelling. As it faded into the tissue (I sprayed the sample on a tissue to smell it) I smelled a sweet note and something similar to Bourbon. Overall, not a winner in my book. But if you like simple, non-complex mens cologne, this ones for you.

I cannot believe no one has thought this smells like the Michael Kors from 2001. I get that distinct vibe from it....and lipstick. I like the similarity to the Kors but it also reminds me of that smell from old lipstick. Nice enough. Nothing offensive about it and lots to like, but the price it is going for at the moment makes it not worth it. I would buy another bottle if it weren't for the price.

spicy sweet leather.. like someone rubbed berries into a leather jacket and sprinkled it with cinnamon and threw some rum over top of it...this could have been so much better... its got great ingredients but its not done right. for a $10 scent its good but theres something about it that makes it smell cheap. longevity = 8 sillage = 7 overall = 5..
