Kiton Black

Decent, but nothing amazing. Kiton Black is basically a tart raspberry scent driven by a suede/violet combo that fades into a sort of nondescript woody base. It's linear for the most part and while it feels like the ingredients are of a good quality, it's not really composed in a way that's dynamic or layered. There's little interplay among the notes and instead it's just kind of there, a little blob-like, albeit pleasant and inoffensive. I wore it several times and each time I found it got annoying after an hour or so. I think the original Kiton is very good, so Black was disappointing to some degree, although not really a bad scent, it just didn't live up to my expectations. Performance was fine. It has good silage and projection. It's worth checking out, but don't get your hopes up too much. I would rate Black a slightly above average 6 out of 10.

I wore this bad boy in high school. EVERYONE loved it one me. It has a nice pepper-y kick to it. Very interesting scent. I eventually got sick of it and (at that time) it's expensive price tag. It was once 100 smack-a-roos and when you're in high school, you settle for that 5 dollar bottle of Bod Blue Musk... yowza.

It reminds me of Fahrenheit but better. That leather note and red berry note just says masculine. a must buy

Let me explain why such a big difference here in opinions about longevity, projection and sillage of this perfume. As I found out hard way, it is manufactured in UK, Italy, Spain, France, and Ukraine. I had it in the past, and recently bought new bottle from the trusted online retailer. To my disappointment, it lasted 1/4 if not less than one from old bottle, and same poor was projection/sillage. I assumed it being usual victim of reformulation, and discarded it from my buy in the future list. Short time later I'm receiving sample of it with order from Nordstrom - and it has same performance as old. When I look at package of bottle I received I saw it states Made in Ukraine. I went to Nordstrom store and their Kiton is made in UK, and macy's in Italy. For a moment I thought that for the first time my trusted online source sold me fake product, but after some investigation I found out Estee Lauder in fact has manufacturing facility in Ukraine. I placed new order with another trusted online store, and guess what? Their Kiton was made in Ukraine too! I sent it right back without opening. I went through my collection and sure found few more made in Ukraine (Aramis line) underperforming Estee Lauder perfumes that I previously was blaming on reformulation. Being myself from ex-USSR, I know how much everyone is stealing from work to supplement their low salaries, and how bad is quality control, so for me it doesn't come as surprise at all. So, final verdict: Scent 7/10 both versions are smell about the same on opening and drydown. Longevity 8-9 hours for non Ukrainian manufactured version, and 1-2 hours for made in Ukraine bottle. Same goes to projection and sillage: moderate on borderline with heavy for one, and soft to non existing for another.

(UK batch code, B98): I was lucky enough to blind buy a bottle of Kiton Black, as I was hunting for similar scents to GPH II. Although it never did hit the spot, I do appreciate this interpretation of a modern fougere. A bright zesty opening that is supported by violet flower which then morphs into cardamom found in the DNA of YSL LNDL, oddly enough, closest to Eau Electrique. Violet and tea notes stays pleasant on skin, which somehow reminded me of Rochas Moustache EDP. Leather stealthily emerges during the drydown, which surprised me as it resembled PHI. Leathery drydown on Kiton felt clean, smart like the PHI, but without the powdery iris and projection. It somehow feels methodical in its progression, like well-planned chapters in a tale : starting fresh with citrus, invigorating florals, reminiscent of serene tea time and finally resting in the comfort of a leather seat with a bouquet.

Oh, Kiton Black , what a wicked web of intrigue you leave in your wake. Enough in fact to make you love this fragrance in all its smooth well rounded refinement. Which is what brings about that sense of boredom in time. I think of Kiton Black as perfect on a well groomed mature professional who prefers his suits to be tailored and of the best quality. A seemless genteel view on life ,excuse the pun. My initial impressions of Kiton Black were favorable, though some niggling thoughts about a grayness or almost velvet grayness that sullied the true blackness of this scent. This fragrance is very formal and well mannered to a fault. Too much of a smooth operator in my books to continue in my winter rotation.

I am a huge fragrance collector and have the original Kiton which I like, so thought I would add Kiton Black. Like its brother, this is a good fragrance but is very similar to its brother in many ways. The only real difference is that this has more of a peppery/pencil shavings note, the same note that you would find in Lalique White though Lalique white uses it to underpin the citruses but Kiyon Black then goes in the usual Kiton direction here. I think if you own the original, there is no need to purchase black as it is very, very similar but still good!

Smooth and refreshing scent! Not really natural-smelling but still smells very good to me. I find it is a scent that could suit almost any occasion. Unfortunately too masculine for me to wear (I enjoy wearing some masculine perfumes). Its soundtrack would be "Smooth Operator".

One I relate to Aramis Always, with the banana-skin like front. This has the night time qualities I wanted in He Wood by DSquared, another scent I fid has a banana-wood type smell to it. Gorgeous woody scent.

So disappointed... When i first used it, the effect was so weak that my friends could't even smell it anymore after 1 hour, Even though i had sprayed several times! Waste of the money..

Found both kiton fragrances at Marshalls at 29 bucks! Awesome! Love this fragrance . Wasn’t sure which one is better but I like the original so I got it and the black

tested this today, all hype for nothing. It's nice but 2-4 hours smell almost nothing anymore. maybe office scent safe and not offensive

An excellent woody scent!!! Pity it's a bit pricey.

Powdery woody leather. Pretty nice.

I've got full bottle of this in 2009 and it still there 3/4 full because it didn't really work with humidity and high temperature. I didn't say Kiton Black is bad. It is good, really. A fresh new car vibe. Black sport car with full grey leather linings. Fresh, young yet leathery. Not heavy leather like TF Tuscan Leather but rather smooth and subtle. It's definitely a beautiful leather fragrance in the market. You'll get the it factor and immediate gestalt with this, but only lasts 3 hrs top on my skin in tropical-indoor environment.

I was surprised that we’re in the realm of Dreamer and Malle’s Hiver. Again, an old computer game, again Cristobal and Anthony. So purple, dreams, and a contemplative space with a good amount of air. Maybe I mentioned this — this dreaminess — when I interpreted the Ecuadorian vibe of Carven PH with its sparkling quality. And here you have a similarity to Calvin Klein Man.

OG Kiton Black formulation: I picked up a partial bottle of this about 8 years ago. I use it very sparingly. For me, this is class in a bottle and I love to wear it when I am dressed up. It is a very unusual violet composition, with a light hint of the gasoline smell in Fahrenheit, but very different than Fahrenheit. The OG lasts, and lasts, and lasts. I put it on last night at around 5:30 PM, I can taste it in my mouth whenever I wear it (a bit TOO strong), and it is noon the next day and I can still smell it on my wrist as a relatively strong skin scent. I do worry that the scent has lost its top notes or started to turn, because it has a certain smell that several other vintage colognes I own have, but I am beginning to think it is actually one of the base ingredients coming through. Very lucky to have this in my collection! This is a sweet, clean fragrance that brings to mind clean lines: a close up of tuxedo fabric and stitching, the clean lines of a luxury car's black leather interior with shiny silver details, the clean lines of parted swept back, slicked back hair. Modern Kiton Black formulation: I picked up a bottle of this around 3 months ago. This is so much lighter that it feels qualitatively like a different scent than the original, non-reformulated Kiton Black. It has some of the scent profile, but it only lasts a few hours and just doesn't have the same rich scent structure. Some people would argue that the reformulation is better because the OG was TOO strong (do you really want to TASTE your cologne?). On the other hand, it has such phenomenal lasting power that I really enjoy. One of my favorites in my collection, even though I only wear it a few times each year.

What a strange fragrance this is....I'd read below that it was "office safe" and an inoffensive scent, pretty plain etc. Well, I sprayed once on each wrist first thing in the morning and wasn't overly impressed, it seemed the reviews i'd read were likely correct. It reminded me of another scent (annoyingly I can make mental comparisons but 99 times out of 100 I can't name the fragrance in question) and I told myself that once my commute was over, I could always wash it off when I got to work. On the journey to work my nose was irritated from the scent, I think it was the red berries note that was fizzling my nostrils. My journey to work takes just under an hour and shortly before I arrived I started to pick up hints of leather, so I thought i'd leave it and see how the fragrance developed. In the end, it lasted all day and all night (i repeat, one tentative spray on each wrist only) and after about 4 hours the leather changed completely into a green scent, very reminiscent of Green Irish Tweed!I see now that one person made that connotation in the 'reminds me of' section and i agree. For the rest of the scents life on my skin, that's what I got, a kind of slightly fruity Green Irish Tweed. This isn't something i'll wear often (I still can't decide if I like it or not) but it certainly surprised me and is a lot more complex that it first appears to be. Deceptive sillage and huge longevity.

Creamy violet and red berries scent. Has a leathery background to it. I think of this as a gentlemans cologne. While I dont get the most compliments on it, I personally love this cologne. Think of it as the suited up version of aftershaves. Its not quite a barbershop scent, but that creamy violet and red berries just have that thick clean essence. For those complimenting on silage, you must have gotten a bad batch. This stuff is strong! My bottle is about 5 years old and is still ridiculously strong. One of those 2 sprays max fragrances. I was at the mall today and the guy at the fragrance store turned his back, then recommended this to me... after I already told him it was one of my 3 main scents. The sample there was weak, and it smelled familiar, but not anything like my bottle from nordstrom. Ill be purchasing "in production" bottles in stores whenever possible since Ive been burned by too many too good to be true cheap internet prices. Pay the premium on this one and get it in stores since its still in production.

Kiton Black is a smooth violet leaf and leather combo. It reminds me a lot of the original Kiton Men, but it ups the ante with that tonka and leather. It opens fresh, but deepens pretty quickly and once you hit the full drydown, you're in sophisticated/seductive territory. This smells grown-up, but still fun and very unique compared to the current stuff at department store counters. The leather here is really nice on my skin and gives this a mysterious quality. Wearing this puts me in the mood for some good darkwave or a midnight stroll or a swank after-hours party. Original Kiton Men is hard to find now, but luckily this is still around. I'm going to get another bottle while I still can because I love it.
