Âme Sauvage

This smells just like the notes listed above. I live in Miami, and they are always doing some type of blacktop work on the highways etc. Mix in some leather and some anamalic notes in the drydown, and there you go. I would consider this a cold weather fragrance. Men that love fragrances similar to JV Dark Rebel may enjoy this, or maybe some eccentric woman with nose rings and green hair who's into witchcraft. It's very eccentric, and not for the mainstream perfume lover. This is for a specific "niche" crowd. This fragrance is extremely dark, and Dark Rebel seems quite tame to this level of darkness. I would recommend to sample this one first. Kyse Perfumes offers 1ml and 3ml sample sizes for peanuts. My favorite niche/indie house I've discovered since my fragrance journey began. Ame Sauvage marks my last Kyse sample of the current catalogue, a mix of, first and foremost, leather, with asphalt, animalic notes, vanilla, and immortelle. I find it to be rather dry, not funkily animalic, with slightly sweet and floral tones provided by the vanilla and immortelle, respectively. It starts out a little more masculine and leathery but dries down to be more sweet and floral; an interesting evolution. I think that most people could find something they like about it, and It performs pretty well and has the standardly-excellent Kyse pricing of $80 / $54 / $34 / $21 for 100ml / 60ml / 30ml / 15m, respectively. It's a decent entry in the house--not among my favorites but an interesting offering that appeals to fans of leather, floral, and sweets alike. 6 out of 10

I find the tar in this to be reminiscent of the more well-known and popular men's leather fragrances (e.g. Tuscan/Ombre), but without the berry/fruit note that is commonly used to make the scent more mass-appealing. I never liked the fruity/candied notes in those fragrances, so I appreciate that something like Âme Sauvage exists. It's not something I'd wear myself, but I'd recommend it for those who like challenging and darker fragrances like Encre Noire or Gucci Guilty Absolute for Men. It sits inbetween those two in terms of challenge I'd say. Also, if you're not the type to pick up on vanilla easily, you won't really notice it, at least I couldn't with my sample. It stands out from Kyse Perfume's sweeter selections, but the performance is great like all the rest.

I liked the idea of this one. But the vanilla up front is SO prevalent, and SO sweet... the leather and asphalt are there for sure, but the whole comes off a bit candy-coated. It's less "dude in a beat-up leather jacket fixing a car on the side of a highway" and more "girl in a shiny new pleather jacket sipping a vanilla milkshake in the mall parking lot" - both ideas can be sexy in their own way, sure, but since I'm a 50-year-old dude the latter isn't really an olfactory image I should be projecting. Maybe I'd like it on a date more than on myself.

I received a spray sample of Âme Sauvage along with the bottle of “J” moisturizing shower gel I ordered. On my skin the asphalt note smells like hot tar, rubbery and bitter, and the leather like a skanky black motocycle jacket. I regret to say Âme Sauvage is the only fragrance I've tried from Kyse that I personally haven't enjoyed. Happily I found a co-worker who liked this A LOT, and I was able to pass the sample on to someone who really appreciates it.
