Climat (Vintage)

My one and only love soulmate of the perfume world is vintage Climat (where they still used chives) by Lancome. I miss it so much, even though I can re-create the exact scent and experience of it if I think of it even just for one moment. It will forever hold a special place in my heart...Although...if I ever could figure out a way to encapsulate the smell of the back of my dogs' paws, that would create a viable competition. I've spent about 20 years and my kids' college funds account purchasing fakes off eBay and Etsy. The most recent experience of buying yet another fake really traumatized me and actually led me to almost completely lose hope of ever inhaling this precious and unique scent of my childhood and adolescence. Broken-hearted, I finally accepted my loss and made a tough decision to venture out into the world of "other" "regular" perfumes in the hopes of maybe finding something that will excite me again. I threw myself fully (or in clinical terms, became hyper-fixated) into the rabbit hole of many lost hours of watching Youtube and Instagram influencers discussing their favorite fragrances and then dutifully took notes and purchased samples of every single one of them (If you think I'm exaggerating, you haven't dealt with clinical level AHDH related hyper fixation). I am happy to say that I actually found several scents that I liked, with "Rain" by Marc Jacobs currently a definite "leader." My extensive decades-spanning search for the "real" one and only Climat actually led me to realize that there is a whole "lost generation" of women, mostly from the Former Soviet Union who are similarly have been experiencing the same longing and emptiness left in us when the original Climat was discontinued. It was both comforting and unsettling to experience this...On the one hand, I feel a sense of affinity and belonging with these women. And on the other hand, there is also a slight sense of betrayal-like finding out that the intimate partner who has lost, had special relationships with others. (Maybe he even has a family on the side somewhere with a couple of kids kind of way). So I still do feel some strange kind of way about it..

[This is for a true vintage EDT, not the dubious version as pictured above] "We'll sing in the sunshine, we'll laugh everyday, we'll sing in the sunshine, and I'll be on my way." - Gale Gordon Climat is singing in the sunshine, "sounds" like a harmonica solo in a 60s folks song, smells like light filtered through waving reeds. It's aldehydic sparkle and crystal breeze, tinted with violet, hyacinth and rose, lathered like a morning dew pure, classy hotel white soap bar, near and distant at the same time. Climat is whipped with cold cream sandalwood and the white flowers and narcissus blur into new mown hay. This is where I experience the similarities with another gem, Santa Maria Novella Melograno. There is some similarity to Madame Rochas as well, yet Climat feels a bit more wistful, so to speak. The problem with Climat is that there are so many suspicious and outright "fake" versions out there, and one of them I purchased some time back, with the deep blue cap, "Climat" in a script modified from the original, and a textured glass. It smelled like a pleasant, if enfeebled, soapy aldehydic floral, with no discernable shape, feeling mostly like Ivory soap as it dries down. The difference between that and this vintage I now own is prominent. I had not tried the legit re-launches from Lancome that presumably predate these "knock-offs" but I've read that they seem to approximate the original to an extent.

Apart from Magie Noire, I would say that Climat is the most beautiful perfume I have ever worn. I discovered it about ten years ago when I found an unboxed miniature bottle in a charity shop. Oh my! What a delight. The little bottle sat on one of my kitchen shelves in my little flat and is long gone and much lamented. I'm not going to try to describe the smell, I couldn't put it into words and it would definitely lose in the translation. It's a floral aldehyde and I think you can tell I like it! (I love Malegria's alien description though! For me, although I know she meant something different, it speaks of Climat's elegance) Climat screams 'class' and 'quality'! Actually, I'm wearing Liz Earle Botanical No 1 at the moment (it's not on the database here yet), and, strangely,citrus aside, it's the only perfume that has ever reminded me slightly of Climat. I bought a new and sealed big bottle of Climat EDT recently on Ebay and was so disappointed. I don't know if it was a fake or a reformulation but it was barely there and had nothing of the contents of that little bottle about it. When I am rich I am going to get the really expensive set of Lancome minis and hope that that Climat is the same as the one I remember.

I got all versions except the new one and Russian addition. When you are talking about this perfume, you should really talk about 4-5 perfumes. 1st version in the white box is soft with low longetivity, the 2nd "winter" is sharp men like perfume with very low longetivity. The 3rd edition is one beautiful narcissus one, which everyone remembers and likes, and which costs $500 for 7 ml on eBay. The La Collection is my favourite - it's modern version of the 3rd edition. I would strongly discourage you to buy 1st, 2nd or any version in the blue box with the gold square. I would not recommend to buy 3rd edition, as it is overpriced. You can buy it if you really feel that nostalgia or as a gift to someone nostalgic. But if you really want to spend $500 on perfume, go and buy one of the modern boutique perfumes, better value for money. If you still insist on Climat, but La Collection. May be Russian issue is good too.

This scent is one from my childhood, I just can't believe I remembered it all this time (15+ years). It was so popular in the 90's that we had plenty of bottles (the original ones with the cap that twists off), but unfortunately my mom gave them all away as gifts. I always recalled the smell when I was feeling nostalgic until I finally went to Paris (a childhood dream coming true) in 2012 and brought several bottles at the Galeries Lafayette for about $55 each. Now it is double that on the Lancome website! I have two unused bottles left and what's the point of saving them?! So I will open a bottle and use it from time to time and treasure the memories from the past and make new ones! Joie de vivre! I am very inexperienced in picking out specific scents and can only say that this perfume is definitely very personal. It is long lasting and even as an EDT, a little goes a long way.

Ok. So somehow this got compared to Bond no. 9 Madison Soirée. I would say the top and middle notes match Soirée quote well. It isn just at the end of Climat you are left with a bit of a patchouli? I think smell. It's ok. Not really feminine or man grabbing. Kind of like a bit stale. This is OK. It's a nice vintage throwback. The difference with Madison Soirée is that it has this very feminine floral basenote. It seems to draw people to me ina positive way. I like smelling it because it makes me feel relaxed. I would say Climat is something to wear when you want to be noticed for wearing something unusual that people don't often smell and they will like it. It's pleasant and unique. If you want to be unique ina positive way I think this one will make you stand out and keep people guessing. I quite like it. But I like Soirée better.

Saw the new bottle of this at an airport today and sprayed some on my arm, just in case the airport one was real and the one I bought on Ebay (and returned) a couple of years ago was fake. Sadly, it's much the same affair as that one. LANCOME, LANCOME, LANCOME, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO CLIMAT, AND WHY? This stuff is NOTHING like the original Climat, I can't fathom it at all. The 'new' Magie Noire is very much like the old one so why was it so beyond Lancome to not massacre Climat, eh? I purchased a 'smellalike' oil perfume recently that was supposed to be 'Climat' and it was very strange. I think they must have based it on the new ridiculous imposter and never even smelled the original..

One of those scents that I'm certain that the perfumeur wept when they made it. In the same vane as perfumes like Fidji and Rive Gauche. I love this fragrance intently, crisp, clean, fresh and delectable florals, it always brightens my day. I have realised I have a thing for bamboo. Also on my skin this lasts ages which is an added bonus. Some may find this too retro but to me it exemplifies what perfume is all about, its complex but appears to be simple and innocent. An iconic perfume that deserves the credit that's its given. A must have for all serious perfume lovers. I have the vintage version, and I feel grateful I do.

Totally wonderful vintage! This has the same place in my wardrobe as a bottle of White Linen, though I love it far more. The notes are not that similar, but the clean, soap scent is reminiscent in category at least. I have Madame Rochas and there is a passing resemblance also, but it's not identical in any way. Another aldehydic winner, indeed! If you enjoy vintage style, aldehydic scent but would rather avoid the price tag, then consider the dupe of Rive Gauche, Taylor of London Panache. I find it to be in no way a dupe for Climate, but definitely a winner in this category also.

A wonderful clean classic floral! Fresh and alive.... The true authentic vintage version..... 1st edition second and final 2003 edition are all just a tad different melody swirling around the original vision.... Buyers beware! eBay is loaded with terrible china knock off fakes! Look for authentic trademarks.... A true vintage bottle in box will have no bar code......1979 versions are amazing and gold bullion prices..... I need to make this irony statement.... If you take Avon Regence cologne and mix it with Avon Tasha you have Lancôme Climat..... Go figure.....

Many people compare Climat to Madame Rochas, but they are not mutually exclusive. The sandalwood-tonka bean-bamboo-amber-peach-white floral combination blows me away. It almost smells like a fragrant primeval forest in a bottle. It has that 1960's 'save the environment' vibe. This is a perfume that makes a statement. It's also supposedly long lasting. I highly recommend Climat, and I'm so glad it has not been discontinued like so many from the glory days of perfumery. It's the environmentalist version of Chanel No. 5.

I just bought a 1.5oz EDT from my local pharmacy, produced October '05, like a reviewer below, according to the batch code. Wow! Soapy, floral, juice looks fine and top notes present, despite being old enough to drive! Nothing life changing for me here, but I paid $12 so how can I complain? Plus, it has OAKMOSS listed in the ingredients. Who wouldn't smile about that?? Update: something about this reminds me of Tresor. Peach, rose, and aldehydes maybe. More shampooey than Tresor, but there's a pleasing resemblance.

I am not going to compare old and new versions of this, the only sample I ́ve tried looks the same as in the picture. I must admit that for me it is quite similar to scents like Caleche or Madame Rochas. I can feel the smell of clothes washed in soap, clean bedsheets, baby powder. It is very pleasant and comforting like a goodnight kiss. On the other hand it smells expensive and sophisticated, very elegant. I recommend it for daily use because it is light and fresh.

This was my favorite fragrance in the 80's, when suddenly it dissapeared from the danish stores. Last week I found it again on a holiday in Amsterdam, new bottle - and new smell. It has the same sharp lemony burst at the beginning, but the refined, beautiful soft layer of rose and jasmine, which I liked so much, did not develop afterwards. I had read about reformulation of this masterpiece and it is true, sadly enough.

I just purchased a new "sealed in the box" bottle of Climat EdP on Amazon.com last week. Awful, awful...smells like hairspray - I am returning it tomorrow. So very, very disappointed because I love this fragrance. I still have 2 of my original bottles from 10 years ago - empty, of course, but I can still open them and smell what is left. Climat is a truly beautiful fragrance. I would love to find it again!

Got my original miniature from 60th. Its really different from the modern versions. I was very sceptical about comments that old one is different, as I have other vintage perfumes and they are exactly the same as the new once. Cant say the old one is really bad and new one is really worse. I actually love new one more, though old one is good too.

This was a totally beautiful fragrance. Warm aromatic but not too heavy. I found it sensual. I always got compliments when I wore it. Sadly, like a lot of other very successful fragrances Lancome stopped making what had to be their most favoured perfume.

I disagree that this is an “old lady” fragrance. It reminds me a lot of Bond no 9 Madison soirée. It smells very soapy and clean to me. I lean toward soapy powdery scents so for me this is a love.

I doubt the bottle pictured is a knockoff; I bought mine from a legit Lancome retailer. It's probably a new/crappy formulation, but I don't think it's fake. I agree it's thin and light.

I had the vintage which was lovely but sadly is long gone. I was thrilled to see it back in the shops but this smells nothing like the original - a total waste of money.

Absolutely wonderful! A perfume that makes a woman unforgettable. The truth is it smells very much like Estee Super, but Climat is superior to Lauder's creation.

It's a great beautiful classy sweet and slightly sour scent with elegant dry down and a wonderful veil!

I got here by way of Dia. After sampling the Amouage beauty I was intrigued with fragrances with a similar feel. So my research began. La Collection version, released 2005 was my goal. But on poring over review after review, I concluded that not only was it very hard to find and expensive, but the celebrated depth and animalic notes had been left out of that formulation. My next choice was the current edition EDT sold on Lancome's website in a modern tall, clear bottle with silver lid. This is purported to be rather thin compared to the original too, albeit more affordable than the La Collection release. I still wanted to sample this in closest to original form. There aren't many reviews that refer to the current EDT either as I believe Climat has fallen out of favor for fear of investing in a counterfeit of which there are many. Additionally the website claims that the current issue is "a memory of a vanilla fragrance." Not today. No vanilla with my fresh greens and whites please. Vintage became an option but there are so many knock-offs circulating that I entered into a purchase with much trepidation. I managed to acquire a used micro mini pure parfum, a travel spray EDP, and a mini EDT, all from the same seller with a solid reputation. I'm happy to say that compared to reviews of those who have experienced the original fragrance, this seems to meet my expectations. Spray EDP: this is glorious and most likely the one I would purchase in a larger fresh bottle if it were available. There are beautiful low tones of sharp narcissus, lily of the valley, rosemary and bergamot peel at the top, infused with aldehyde and musk for a fresh clean feel. A hint of civet lends a little astringency and depth. Mini EDT: This one was just as complex as the others but the sillage was softer and longevity rather moderate. Overall, just a thinner version with perhaps a bit less musk. Micro mini parfum: This version has all the nuances of the EDP, but also a larger base with amber and the greenery is a little quieter but deeper. A warm scent with a wonderful cool beauty. All I can say is that it's a real shame that this isn't produced in EDP or parfum strength by Lancome anymore. Thank you to those in the forums who helped me seek out the real Climat!

I was around 10 years old, when my mom got "Climat" as a present. 15ml bottle, just as the one on the fragranticas picture. Smells divine! I remember putting tip of my nose very close to the bottle, and the smell would fallow me for hours. I just got 75ml bottle of "Climat" EdT, as a gift from my moms friend. First sniff....jes, it is "Clemat", but lighter, somehow more like a "day" fragrance. Not cheap, but not the same as the old formula. I like this new one too. It is sweet - aromatic. Much thinner that the old version. Long lasting. NOT old lady like (at least not on my skin). I do not know why they brought this back under same name though. It is kinda cheating on the customer. If you are thinking of buying a new "Climat", get a sample first. You can consider it as a little sister of "Clemat". P.S want to add that i will also agree with "Doc Elly". I detect some citrus notes too.

Climat opens incredibly floral and soapy on my skin. As the top notes start to peel away, I'm catching a scent profile that reminds me of Calendre, Rive Gauche, and Ma Griffe. Unlike Calendre and Rive Gauche which comes off as quite metallic to me, and notches less feisty than Ma Griffe, Climat is warm and effervescent and reminds me of calamansi limes. The base is quite reminiscent of Ô de Lancôme. I've tried four vintage Lancôme scents (Magie Noire, Poeme, Ô de Lancôme, and this) and they have all been beautiful olfactory creations thus far. They are certainly quite different from the pefumes I see hanging out at their retail counters nowadays (different variations of pink fruitchoulis). They make me wish I had grown up in the 70s and 80s to have experienced them in their heyday.

Flowers straight up, preserved in aldehydes! That’s what jumps out of the vial, even before being invited out. Once on the skin, a lot of citrus comes to the fore, making the blend masquerade as something almost like orange blossoms, one of the few flowers that I like in perfume. This citrus phase is nice, but it fades pretty quickly, only lasting a couple of hours. What I tried is the EdT, so a more concentrated version might have better longevity. This is a pleasant floral scent that seems to be heavy on the top notes. It’s nothing extraordinary that I would go out of my way to obtain more than a sample of.

Floral aldehyde fragrance! I would say that the aldehyde note and the narcissus note are the most noticeable in this fragrance. The composition of this fragrance seems much more complex than compositions of the nowadays fragrances. And it's great! Actually, I can't say that I like this fragrance too much, because I prefer more lively floral compositions. And in this fragrance floral notes bring associations with flowers in the glass more. But I really appreciate that this fragrance smells complex a lot. And it's really elegant.

The Longevity and Intensity of Climat could be compared to the Russian perfume called Red Moscow (2Krasnaya Moskwa) that my grandmother used many years ago. This is what I would call a perfume for centuries, it is never out of fashion. Moreover, unlike Lancome La Nuit Tresor, which gives me suffocation and headache, Climat is intense yet not clingy, smoky rather than powdery. It should definitely be worn at a late hour, not to shake in the underground on your way to work at 7 am.

Have a vintage miniature, bottle looks the same as the extrait parfum version but the liquid is clear. No performance issues here - projection is big, scent is soapy, clean white linen and throwback. Unisex by today's standards. Kinda reminds me of a lot of things, Kiehl's Original Musk and even Jovan Musk. Reminds me of, meaning just that and not a bean more.

Found today at a clothing consignment. Excited because I've read about it. Big, airy, soapy and dated or classic, depending on how you look at it. Suspect this to be from the early 2000s. It looks legit and even has a little paper insert. The scent lasts less than 20 minutes on skin.

Clean and powdery. I have such a hard time distinguishing the notes this is so well blended. It smells like expensive talcum powder. It's a lovely vintage. I think I'll wear it when I want to smell like a cloud, light and airy.

a beautiful vintage soapy floral aldehyde that smells like hyacinth to me but I could see some daffodil and rose in there with a hit of musk and sandalwood to round it out.

Smells like L Air du Temps from Nina Ricci and Azuree from Este Lauder. Soapy and beautiful scent, big projection for 2 hours and about 5 hours longevity.

It's a good fragrance but it really has that "Old lady" vibe to it. It's a really dated fragrance

The Aldehydes and narcissus are very prominent in this perfume. While it has a powdery finishing, the flowers jump out at every swift of this perfume. I purchased this perfume on Ruelala, and I wonder if this is the original that has been held up in costumes since the 80's or it is a replica made in Poland. These days, if you want a Cimat, then you can buy one for over $100 directly from Lancome, but it is not possible to test it before purchase, and I am not sure how true the formula is to the original.

my mother love this scent.she wear it since her universty times.there was deficite of this parfumes iN USSR so i think this smell takes her top that happy days when she was young.but i dot like this scent.it too heavy and smells like oil.

This smells like soap to me. Extremely soapy scent! It seemed much better after spraying, but it changes into a strong aldehydic fragrance. Too old-fashioned and cloying for my taste.

Very oily smell with vintage feeling. For the vintage lovers must be ok, for me is really hard to wear for more then 10 minutes.

This review is for the new version: I didn't have the chance of trying vintage Climat and since some time I was wondering about the difference between the two. Indeed I had opened a topic about this which didnot help much, but revisiting this page again I am so happy to see reviews comparing the two. It seems that the new Climat has not much to do with the old one (another Magie Noir case). Having tried two or more times the new one to be sure as to how it really smells, I can say that my experience is totally different with it (than the other users'). I smell curry, spices that is particularly (even exactly) curry! It has a strong aldehydic and animalic note to it, which I can describe as "old world". As for flowers, rose is detectable to my nose. Overall, the new Climat is a very heady fragrance which takes a slightly softer -and somehow more floral- turn some time after the application. I would certainly wouldn't classify it as a floral though. It is well composed hence it's hard to break it down to its components (by delving into that curry note!). This is a mega mixture which I will describe as: Aldehydic - chypre - animalic(civet) - spicy-like - slightly floral - and slightly powdery. A very interesting fragrance.

Fantastic Floral fragrance. My girl friend in the Caribbean island of Curacao wears this as her signature scent. Lancôme went from this masterpiece and beauty to vanilla scented praline nonsense like La Vie est Belle. Explain to me how that happened. This is a beautiful bouquet. The opening is aldehydes so if you are alright with aldehydic openings very strong then you'll survive. There is a peach and bergamot scent right away. Fruity but not too much. A jasmine then introduces a floral show starring lily of the valley, rose, narcissus, and tuberose. I would say that here the narcissus and lily of the valley are the real attraction. This is a white floral scent and it becomes even more so with the tuberose. The heart is aromatic with rosemary. The scent does it's flower thing until it dries down to woods and vanilla in its form as Tonka bean. A musky scent is also there giving the scent a warmth along with amber. The animalic note of the civet is real so it does turn into those animalic scents that you may or may not like. This is a gorgeous floral animalic scent and really does smell vintage and older but thats' why it's so great.

I have the version of Climat that has the propellant, which I think is the late 70's - 80's version (?). Climat is the perfect name. It feels breezy, like a light wind rolling across a foothill. The sun disappears and reveals itself behind swift-moving clouds, dappling the valley with dancing shadows throughout the afternoon. This fragrance is well balanced, but I can detect certian notes in particular: rose, narcisse, violet and animal musks. The florals seems to add just a hint of powdery sweetness, green notes providing the feeling of being surrounded by wind-stirred foilage, and the animalic, woody notes giving the composition an element of mystery and a base for the other swirling notes to tether to. How Climat can feel oily and dry at the same time is part of its beauty. I wear this running errands. It helps me feel deliberate (yet absolutely romantic!) while I whirl about the high sierra mountains with a list of to-dos in hand, but this would be what I wore if I were to host a cocktail party, too! I love you, Climat. Forever.

I had seen images of Climat on Ebay before and didn't know much about it, so I didn't want to risk it. However, A woman at a flea market was asking a fair price for what was left (1/3) of a vintage, 1/2 ounce parfum, a few months ago, so I snapped it up. I'm glad I did. Climat, is one of those creamy, old-style chypres that seems to lie somewhere in between the beautiful and long discontinued Deneuve and YSL's "Y". While I am NOT a lover of aldehydes (love Chanel No, 5 though), I have to say that they don't seem to feature prominently in Climat. What does seem to dominate, in a good way, is oakmoss, which is, strangely, not listed above. If you're a chypre lover/collector, you should definitely keep your eyes open for a VINTAGE bottle of Climat and heed the words of many of the reviewers here: Don't buy new Climat expecting a real classic chypre because the IFRA will not allow them to make a chypre like this anymore.

I have a complicated relationship with this aldehydic wonder. It`s a nostalgic scent for me...my mom wore it for a while when I was a very happy toddler, and then she bought a bottle when I was a very unhappy teenager. I love and hate it at the same time. The opening is almost sickly fresh, and then it quickly develops into a gorgeous sharp floral...the trail it leaves behind is unbelievable!But there is something "too much", something disturbing about it, pain/pleasure type that won`t let me have it. I would also add that there is nothing sexy about it for my taste, it`s a scent of a different,non-carnal nature, like it was made for aliens with turquoise-colored blood that communicate by telepathy and have sex in dreams. I always love it on others and immediately it puts me in a hound dog mode - but, unfortunately, it is just not made for my pleasure. Climat is my Nemesis perfume.

Its dramatic to write about the legend in the terms of the Past tense.I prefer to live in denial, as when you think of richness and silkiness of old times Climat, you just visualize the real pure oils of plants and flowers. Life seemed to be naturally sensual, dreamy, warm and multidimensional, when you had that bottle on your dressing-table. New-ish versions are gross parody on the glory, magic, fullness and beauty of original Climat, which once made men to be drunk from passion and look like complete helpless idiots in front of the woman, who was wearing Climat.

Beautiful and so underrated. I was just graduated when i got Climat into my hands and wore it religiously as signature for a long time. It was unusual because Climat wasn't popular in my age group then, all were raving about Escada juices. As much as i recall on my young skin it was transparent green and aquatic. One my co-worker complemented me each day, she stalked me and didn't leave me in peace till i wrote her the name. Of course i still do have sentiments for this precious perfume, but i think it wouldn't be the same effect if i came back.

I was introduced to this fragrance in the 70's when a friend brought a bottle back from France. I had read once that it wasn't introduced to the USA because it was too complex for American women. It is, or should I say was, the most wonderful perfume I've ever worn. It's a classy, sensual scent that every man in my life commented on and women ask what I'm wearing. But, as others have noted, what is sold today bears little more than a shadow resemblance to the original. Such a bummer. I see that Lancome has discontinued it again.

Old but gold. My first review I decided to dedicate to my very first perfume. I never wore real perfumes till 20's, usually just deodorants were my things for that time. You see, I wasn't a girly girl and all feminine stuff came to my life rather late. I remember how I got a mini bottle of this perfume and just little drops made my world sunny. It has light airy scent of white narcissus and lily of the valley. Too many people told me I smell like springtime. That was beautiful time and literally spring of my lifetime.

One of Lancome's evergreen stars, Climat shares its limelight with Maggie, Cuir de Lancome, Mille Et Un Roses, Sagamore, Sikkim and many others. Climat EDT opens with a burst of bright sunny aldehyde that reminds me of Amouage Dia, lighter, slightly drier, fresher and sopier but not any less ethereal. The inky green oakmoss gives a wonderful depth to its earthy-forest-floor kind of smell. Longevity is exceptional, with a close to skin projection. Another great classic to keep.
