Monsieur Lanvin

A true gentleman 's fragrance of the 60's! Lanvin Always makes refined and superb blends, and this is absolutely gorgeous. It opens with a light taste of lemon and fruits, then u can feel cinnamon, clary sage, lavender, carnation, touches of leather and civet. This soft animalic note gives a bit of edge and masculinity. This is in the same league of dior eau sauvage, monsieur de Givenchy etc but less lemony and a slightely more rugged. Another similar is eau d'hermes which has a similar leathery-civet note. If u want a more "modern" comparison i think versace l' homme has something in common with monsieur Lanvin. This is good for a man over 40, spring is the best season but u can wear it in any time of the year. It requires elegance even in the casual situations. Moderate performance. Oldie and goldie! Trigger alert: if you have sensitivities to lemon, green notes, clary sage, carnation, civet, and powder, move on pronto. If a classic 60s fragrance that embodies all of the above sounds like ambrosia to you, Monsieur Lanvin would be rapture. My bottle is a pressurized atomizer, and I need to be so careful as to not drain its contents in one application, but it is divine. My gamble in scoring yet another vintage on the cheap resulted in a near pristine condition, with very little degradation to its top notes. It's miraculous, really. Monsieur's verdancy seems courtesy to petitgrain and a touch of galbanum, but the real showstopper is this spicy floral accord. Most notably featuring jasmine, it is buttressed by civet (do you understand your civet yet? It doesn't always necessarily smell pissy and certainly shouldn't smell poopy), powdery, plush, outlawed nitro-musks and leathery undertones. For some reason when wearing this, I feel like watching old episodes of Cannon or Kojak while wearing this. Who loves ya, baby?

A true masterpiece now discontinued since 1991? Go and ask why? The house of lanvin should have kept Monsieur Lanvin in production! Such a pity👎 this is a true gentleman fragrance🕵️ ❤️ so complex and so well blended! A true masterpiece🏆❤️🏆

This is an amazing gathering of notes. The longer I wear it the better it becomes , total love!

I got a small 2oz bottle of this, the older version with "Monsieur Lanvin" engraved into the top of the cap (not written on the bottle side). First impression is that it is a muskier, more manly version of Bal a Versailles without the chocolate and amber. I think the degree and balance of jasmine and rose combined with the civet helps make them so similar. As it develops, the jasmine and rose begin to dominate over the musk. Civet is potent but not overbearing and does fade off a bit. The overall picture is a fairly unisex fragrance. Not sure, but the coloration of the newer version looks lighter, possibly less civet and more citrus. Once fully into the dry down (after an hour or so), Monsieur Lanvin becomes more like a skin scent. Definitely doesn't have the warm soft ambery feel of BaV. It stands as more masculine, IMHO. The vintage version of Monsieur Lanvin is generally more expensive to obtain... so BaV is a fine alternative if you like a good amber and more animalic accompaniment.

If you are a fan of this discontinued fragrance and don't want to pay big bucks on eBay for a vintage bottle, then try Van Cleef & Arpels pour Homme - the most recent formulation in the black bottle. To my my nose they are practically identical after the dry down (it's a bit bug spray-ish at first) and the Van Cleef option actually lasts longer.

Magnificent! ... Elegant, masculine and not over the top. I recently bough it from a trusted site and, smell brand new. Having in consideration that this original formula contain civet, a very tricky ingredient for old perfumes. I played the russian roulette. There is the excitement when you buy a vintage fragrance. Go for it!

I can remember wearing this fragrance in the late 80s. I was walking to work and a girl I worked with stopped her car and asked me if I wanted a lift. As soon as I closed the door she said "You smell beautiful!". I could never bring myself to throw that bottle away and it still lives in my bathroom cupboard to this day.

My first bottle was the oval, took me several years until I settle for the second square bottle. The smell is quite different. Now that I cannot find even the square bottle, I only used it for special occasion

they dont still make this? and Lanvin for Men either? why not? maybe they will re-do it again soon like some other fragrance companies have. since I would possibley like to get them - they might be nice.

I think it's one of the top 5 most beautiful men's perfumes ever. Elegant as a true gentleman, Van Cleef & Arpels pour Homme is another perfume, very different. Here we are in the Olympus of the gods.

Sublime fragrance. I just picked up two 3oz bottles of this, and Figaro. $470/ea (US). It's the best fragrance purchase/investment i have made.

Awesome great autumn and winter classic stuff here. For real classic men.
