Per Cent'anni

This is really interesting! Earthy, slightly leathery and a bit grassy. It's not gourmand to me at all. Leans masculine. I wouldn't wear it but I like the scent. -

I was lucky enough to receive a bottle of this from Laughing Saint's giveaway with Fragrantica back in April. It is high allergy season, and that coupled with a cold made me wait to wear it to really be able to experience it. So, full disclosure on that, as it is these reviews that sometimes help us all in blind buying a perfume that we might not normally purchase, and in that spirit I'm happy to add my thoughts here so that anyone who is on the fence might take a chance on this gorgeous little oddball. I call it that with much respect and adoration, and very appreciative that I get to enjoy it. Its uniqueness is palpable from the first spray - it is like nothing else. It can definitely be a uni/multisex fragrance. The story and intention behind its creation, and its name, just enhances how special and carefully crafted a perfume this is. Please bear with me as I try my best to describe this - it is a very complicated fragrance. Never messy! Just... beautifully technical, and technically beautiful. It opens on me almost tingly and sharp, strangely floral and pale grapefuit mixed with a woodsy vanilla and almost sort of a lightly sweetened bread... assuming this is the pannacotta, it is a sweet note that stands out mysteriously... and as you are trying to figure out what you're smelling as the notes weave in and out, it then starts to transform as a whole and become cedar creamy, with a distinct rooibos tea, a little Earl Grey, a light nutty almond (not amaretto/cherry almond, if this is what you are expecting) and a sandalwood musk. As soon as you recognize one note, another dances in. There is movement. Things are definitely happening as it evolves, and most of the notes are quite discernible from one another, but blend together almost symphonically. There's not enough ylang ylang or jasmine to put your finger on, other than it being a touch floral just to keep it sparkling against the dry, creamy woods. The journey is amazing, and it coaxes you along as it opens up and shows you its notes. There is a chase here! Not a gourmand, not overpoweringly sweet or syrupy, it remains dry, and warms as it fades into a sophisticated sweet musky skin scent. It could take you from day to night quite easily. I did find myself reapplying after about 2 hours, but it's difficult to be disappointed when the scent is so captivating. It will be jangly or confusing to someone who just wants a simple and pretty perfume to wear. This has teeth - not a bite, but a confident, defiant smile. It doesn't care if you don't like it, because it knows it isn't for everybody, and it is more than okay with that. It's a sepia-toned vintage lace wedding dress with combat boots using all the right cutlery and lifting its pinky to sip from its China cup. A cool, sharp, warm, sweet, dry, slightly floral woods with rooibos tea and pannacotta (???) would be the long story made short here, and although that might rightly inform you that this is a scent for all seasons, it would be doing Per Cent'anni a canned disservice. Perfume is art, but there is something incredibly heartfelt about this one. And Mr. Taylor was so thoughtful to reach out to me when there was a delivery delay due to a Canadian holiday interrupting postal service, and made sure I had the tracking number so that I could let him know as soon as my package arrived. If these notes intrigue you, and you are a curious person with an open mind, and an offbeat sense of romantic tradition, you need a bottle of this. The evolution of the notes alone is an experience unto itself. I adore this so much, and am very grateful to have received it. Well done, highly recommend!

Sounds like something I would wear to my wedding! Citrus, wood, white florals- right up my alley!
