Coco Mystère

I'm here to write a book on this cuz I love understanding every bit of the character of a scent I like. I'm into dark scents, balsamic or under-the sun-syrupy and lactonic-balsamic ones of course (see Happy Spirit Magical Nights Chopard). I did not care about Burberry Her for instance, I went straight for the balsamic goodness of Burberry Her Intense. I also love cold (almost bitter) woody scents, as crude as they can be - like my fav candle Cedar Oakwood (Huntington Home of Aldi - I despise scented candles, but I like a few). So! Coco Mystere was calling my name. Opens very dark, woody and balsamic, so boozy-balsamic that it reminds me of Coffee & Whiskey by BBW (which I LOVE) throughout and especially the first 5 mins, but instead of coffee with its whiskey sourness, you get a smooth creamy, slightly lactonic coconut here, a drunk coconut! Drunk on ginger liqueur maybe? This baby is dark, in a literal sense too. It leaves some color on my skin which might stain the clothes (wouldn't like to find out). There is a deep, musky "wet" feel like walking out of a wooden tropical house and taking a night time swim in a tropical sea (minus the sharks). Sexy yes. The sandalwood adds a cold veil to the whole scent for me, right away, which I crave in perfumes and it's not pencil shavings, more like wet wood or even a Palo Santo note (as in BBW Vanilla Palo Santo minus the vanilla - thank you very much). The woody musky feel is intense and counteracts the usual warmth of ginger - good for me! The jasmine adds a sweet sexy floral powdery touch, very ethereal, uplifting and calming. No aquatic notes, no aquatic scent here, but the coconut has a powdery freshness which sometimes I find in SOME aquatic woody scents (the sandalwood powdery vibe of Sea Salt Coast by BBW for instance - different scent. The powdery character of J by Jennifer Aniston). The coconut is not dancing alone here obviously, it's served with some of the most beautiful aromatic ginger I've smelled in a perfume and which dominates the fragrance for me in a good way the first 15 mins (the balsamic (but not syrupy) ginger-liqueur I mentioned). It's a unique scent to me because the musky coconut shines through the notes of ginger, jasmine and sandalwood and intensifies later on me. Rich aromas from all directions blending together, so it's not just another plain coconut fragrance IMO. It doesn't give Coco Paradise by BBW to me, where the coconut is the main attraction, and since that one is a happier coconut, on the (very) salty side, hence why upon checking its notes now I see "salted coconut monoi", hah my nose didn't trick me. No joke Coco Paradise is so salty and its coconut is in-your-face syrupy, sticky balsamic (very lovely too just different and can induce a headache for me even tho I like it). Smelling my arm an hour later, I still perceive a BBW Coffee & Whiskey, boozy vibe here, mainly due to the ginger-sandalwood. It gives a slight amber impression in the drydown without much warmth and retaining the cold crude woody feel. This is what I am left with past the 5 hrs mark and it's quite masculine, no complaints! To me this could be unisex like Coffee & Whiskey is. I rarely like ginger, and here it's everything, not cookie-sweet, not sharp and edible (as in BBW Jolly gingerbread village -which I love) and not overly fizzy/peppery to be obnoxious. It is far from "cozy" (what it smells like in Burberry Goddess) and not too warm and Christmasy, but it adds its unique spice and allure, giving the "drunk" balsamic goodness here which pairs so well with the "toasted" quality of the coconut. A genius little gourmand touch. They utilize sandalwood, musk and ginger so beautifully that they manage to give this coconut a dark and mysterious character as opposed to Lait De Coco. They have a similar vein, but the latter is more milky, and this one is very drunk and woody, slightly lactonic. It's not an overly sweet, happy, coconut scent. It's not the kind I smell in BBW coconut scents (Meet me In Miami has a bubblegum floral coconut - amazing too), or a KKW Pink lips milky, sugary, edible coconut (all very lovely). It's a musky, almost smoky coconut with moderate sweetness. Toasted they say? yea exactly that, with toned-down sweetness, but reminiscent of the "soapy", lactonic coconut in Lait De Coco. LE MONDE'S COCONUT NOTE. Le Monde Gourmand's coconut is VERY unique to me, some of the best I've had, very sexy and grown-up. It's always like a stark "white" in my mind, can't describe it, but it has something so fresh, slightly powdery, clean and pure, like coconut flakes on buttery smooth, cold, soapy bed sheets, almost a "plastic" feel to it, but not artificial, always very lactonic in its core. It's more intense in Lait De Coco being purely milky. Coco Mystere is its dark, seductive sister. Lasting power is 3 hours, moderate projection, amplifies with time, performs great in hot weather, smells more rich on oily skins. After 2 hrs I smell some of the coconut with the same woody liqueur-balsamic feel, almost reminiscent of amber at this point and the sandalwood is much more crude now, kinda like in that Cedar Oakwood candle, just not too bitter. Lait De Coco & Pistachio Brulee were my first loves, so unique to me, this one is added to my list along with 000, Tres Pine, Beau Bleu and Meringue Magique. I've become a fan of Le Monde. Got their Petale Ephemere now (a Greek word: εφήμερος, so I hope it's not too ephemeral in lasting power).

Sooo nice it’s like root beer or dr. Pepper but it’s nice and creamy with the coconut

This is a beautiful scent. I don’t get a ton of the coconut or jasmine in the dry down but the ginger and sandalwood really come through for me. I wore this to work while I was running around and it started to become a bit cloying. I also started to feel like it was pulling too mature, at least for myself.

Spicy fresh ginger comes through on a creamy coconut cream, some woods also peek through at dry down. Smells beautiful but more masculine in my opinion, passed over to my boyfriend and it smells amazing on him.

I am a coconut scent collector because I find that it’s still not as mainstream as vanilla, cherry, rose etc. This is probably the best coconut scent perfume I’ve tried and I am sad it is currently discontinued. sassa7’s comment about this being similar to Coffee and Whiskey is correct. The only difference is C&W has coffee notes but overall they are 90% similar. Hope this helps those who are looking for dupes while Le Monde Gourmand hasn’t brought it back yet.

I told everyone in my life that this smells like (elevated) diet coke. i dont think they believe me but it has that spiciness with a super fizzy quality. i dont like the taste of coke, but i really enjoy this

I bought this and Lait De Coco but neither has any lasting properties at all. Reapply every hour(?)
