Treachery

Well well, this is something special- a booze lovers dream! If you like a whisky note this is the only fragrance you'll ever need. I've never smelt anything quite like it, the note is heavy hitting, potently strong and so realistic it's almost like you've doused yourself in a high quality scotch.... seriously this stuff will singe your nose hairs for the first 5 mins or so. It does calm down eventually, just as weIl as folk are liable to think you've just come from the pub! If you've smelt baraonda, imagine the whisky note in that x10. Great stuff.

The people who claim this is "too sweet" and "too boozy" all have some of the most ridiculously sweet or boozy fragrances on the market in their collections so I wonder where these reviews are coming from. In any case, I think both this and the barrel aged versions of these are both superlative examples of their kind. I mean gosh golly gee imagine a boozy fragrance smelling boozy and gosh golly gee even more imagine the barrel aged version being boozy.

Potent good quality whiskey opening followed closely by a great, moist, raw almond/cherry tobacco accord. 3-4 hours in, everything softens down to a soft cacao vanilla for a further several hours. Sweet, but no more so than plenty of others in this genre. Also, not particularly beastly. If you want that, try Amouage Opus XIV Royal Tobacco or Baruti Perverso. I enjoy the craftsmanship here. Feels like a proper small batch Indie fragrance. Very nice.

Maher Olfactive has put out a really great fragrance in Treachery. It's maybe the most photorealistic boozy tobacco fragrance out there, with an emphasis on booze stored in old oak barrels. It's like a night out with Jack Sparrow. It has great longevity for me and good projection. Not a ton of compliments but people do like the smell of it. Probably more of a nighttime fragrance. 10/10.

This stuff is amazing! I have a hard time calling many fragrances ‘boozy’ that are generally referred to as a boozy fragrance, however this one perfectly fits the bill.. it’s like straight whiskey and pipe tobacco with some warm chocolate floating around. It’s worth a try!

Damn! This one is straight up Whiskey in bold way. One of the most realistic boozy representation in a perfume. It is really strong and bold. It is like Scotch Peat by Strangers Perfumerie but definitely different booze. This one is sour and vanilla sweet booze. I love these kind of booze fragrances. I love this one, too.

Treachery was recommended to me by one of my friends as a tobacco based scent worth testing. I've got a sample. This is not a tobacco based scent for me. There is a weird mix of booze, cough syrup, fermented cherries, dry cocoa pods, dry cocoa powder. The fragrance was announced as smoky and I've read people claim there's t tobacco in here. Well... no tobacco, at least not appearing on my skin. It reminds me a lot of Thierry Mugler A Taste of a Fragrance with hints of L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme EDT. Longevity and sillage are great. Overall a let down.

By the way, what I described is Treachery Barrel Aged - that might make a difference...

You just met the loud talker at the party, and he smells like a bowl of potpourri getting drunk on cheap booze. At least they got the name right. A rare hate vote from me.

To boil down Treachery as being simply a whiskey tobacco scent is borderline offensive to the incredible ingenuity and genius of Shawn Maher. Treachery showcases a brief albeit stunning whiskey accord which is almost more floral than it is sour, but just as quickly as this scent explodes on skin so too does a dry cacao create waves of rich earthy chocolate. The result is a tenacious gourmand booze accord that quickly shifts into one of the most realistic pipe tobacco notes I have EVER smelled. The pipe tobacco here is replete with intense mentholated spices sitting on top of dried fruits ala davana, creamy florals and a freshly opened bag spiced tabac. Shawn has done something new here which is worth noting. This smells novel in many ways without feeling gimmicky. Don’t expect a syrupy sweet honeyed vanilla accord with a *hint* of tobacco; instead be ready for one of the most realistic pipe scents on the market. The sweetness here is subdued and adds a touch of natural flair but it’s the powdery almond note that steals the show. The combination with the tobacco is incredible. As it dries down Treachery shifts into something creamy, powdery, and confectionery without feeling cloying. Dry, powdery woods and tobacco shift back and forth between an almond pastry of sorts with a dash of tonkafied sweetness and a kiss of vanilla. The mentholated aspects of tobacco are still present and while the initial overwhelming intensity of the fragrance has quieted, Treachery is still projecting at arms length even after 4 hours have passed. Florals are present towards the late drydown which I love. This entire experience is something to behold and it’s only a matter of time before Treachery reaches cult status. 1 spray is absolutely beast mode. It will fill a room for half the day. Performance is 12-18 hours with strong silage and projection. For the price this is a 10/10

This is a vanillic-almond saccharine bomb that is waaay too sweet for me. This is the second time in my sniffing life that I've come across a cacao paired with an almond and the result being RIDICULOUSLY too sweet. Like, off the charts 'sweet', and as such, I could (and would) never ever enjoy this one. The whiskey goodness is totally overwhelmed by the fluoride gag-reflex-activating aspects of this scent. And I don't say that in anger or anything like that, it's just TOO sweet, no other way to slice it. If you're into these kinds of scents, this is right up your alley...

On me this is much more gourmand than booze. The whiskey note is present but fleeting and plays only support to the main star of the show which is almond, cacao and vanilla. There's also a huge cherry note - not the fresh cherry but the one you find as decorations on drinks. Fortunately it is not as sweet as these main notes may suggest, the whole experience is softly pleasant and unsurprisingly mature thanks to the tobacco base. Love it!

Cloying whisky spice... I get an extra sticky cloying whisky blend with bits of vanilla , sugary almonds, and more of tobacco cacao mix. I guess this is for those who enjoys a sweet cloying alcoholic beverage that is lightened up with bits of spices. No thank you..
