Holiday

Holiday is a beautifully warm and intoxicating departure from the typical beachy coconut fragrance. It’s inviting, cozy, and somehow manages to feel both sun-drenched and comforting—like golden hour by a seaside bonfire. MDA has a way of bottling “warmth” better than almost anyone, and this is no exception. The toasted coconut and spiced Jamaican rum greet you with a delicious, heady embrace—rich but not cloying. That warmth melts into creamy vanilla and tonka, all anchored by a soft, smoldering woodiness that brings to mind pimento wood crackling gently by the beach. It’s cozy, but also fresh and open, like a breeze rolling off the ocean at dusk. Perfectly balanced and truly unique. It’s the feeling of a sun-warmed memory, lingering long after the sun goes down.

This fragrance actually FEELS warm. It's the feeling of walking barefoot on a hot concrete road after a rain in a tropical neighborhood where the heat is wet, you're walking past fruit trees while drinking a pina colada, and someone is smoking a black and mild on the sidewalk as you walk by. I realize that is oddly specific lol but this fragrance is definitely very visceral, it's not something you just casually spray. You experience it.

A cologned man in a hawaiian shirt that is unbuttoned way too far is drinking a very niche overproof pineapple rum at a dark wood-paneled bar on the less populated side of the island. That's my immediate thought about Holiday; There's a sharp layer of men's cologne and under that, rum and fruit and wood. Something bizarrely medicinal, almost mentholated, is coming out on my skin with the men's cologne; it's all I can smell at a distance unless I really put my nose to my arm. As it warms on my skin and begins to dry down, the menthol recedes a bit and the whole blend becomes more of a pineapple cocktail that you're having with this hawaiian shirt gentleman, who I fear I actually kind of find attractive despite finding him initially offputting. It almost makes me think this guy is wearing bay rum aftershave - it's an astringent note and musky base, but in a retro-tropical way. The fruit and wood persist in the middle and are anchored by his cologne. I detect no vanilla or cream. I have to wonder if the musk and sharpness I craved in cloudbreath ended up here? After about an hour or so, the menthol-booze is completely gone and the wood and musk and lingers gently close to the skin. He's a lot, but he's a nice guy, and he'll help you find your wallet if you drop it after all those cocktails, but he's also not going to stick around for more than 4 hours or so. I doubt I'll find myself reaching for this, but it's very intriguing.

Beautiful, warm and fresh. Crisp rum and soft musk melt together for a summer evening scent.
