Unitas

I love the spiciness in this fragrance: it has very well balanced saffron note which is soften by some gourmand spices. The tobacco notes here is also beautiful: it’s not too dry but not too sweet either. It smells like a very old private club with leather armchairs and cigar smoke in the air. A new batch of samples arrived and the lucky dip winner was Unitas, a woody oriental. First impression is definitely cinnamon but it very quickly merges with all the other ingredients, though as it dried down I could smell vanilla but not if I brought my wrist to my nose, which is a bit odd. For a very fleeting moment that initial hit reminded me of something red and medicinal, like cough syrup. I don't think I have the ability yet to identify particular notes, but to me it seems difficult to identify anything other than cinnamon/spices/woods and vanilla. Definitely not smelling rose, or jasmine. It fades very quickly on the skin but I can still smell it. I'd say it has a moderate projection and longevity. Up close it's a bit sharp and still has that slight medicinal air but I like it. It won't be a go to fragrance though. It's definitely grown on me, but I think, for me, it's better on fabric than my skin, where it has a gorgeous sweetness. Keeps reminding me of another fragrance, but I can't place it.
