La Fumee Intense

Initially, I had an impossible time telling Miller Harris La Fumee Intense apart from La Fumee Original. But after wearing both for several days, I completely get it now. La Fumee Intense is very similar to Original with a few distinguishable and rather notable differences: less smokiness, less incense and the addition of lavender & oud. La Fumee Intense opens with an intense, aromatic, green & spicy accord. I assume the opening is cardamom, coriander, lavender and whatever else. Original does not have such an opening. Throughout the wear, Intense evolves as a more floral, creamy developed version of Original, minus the immediate appearance of incense...again, lavender & vanilla (elemi) are present, for certain. So, floral & vanilla notes are very prominent during the Fumee Intense mid-phase as well, lasting about 30 minutes in. The floral addition is actually quite nice. But...the opening notes and floral accords DO tone down the incense that I love in La Fumee Original. The immediate dry-down is where I am split. While MUCH more resinous, thick, syrupy, sweet and powdery than Original, La Fumee Intense loses me a wee-bit with its woody, mid-to-base notes. I guess it's oud (or something similar). And there is the persistence of these thick, creamy, resinous notes. All the notes comprising La Fumee Intense do beautifully blend after an hour (or more) with intermittent wafting of spiciness, mild incense, amber and lavender. The beautiful interplay of spicy floral & woody notes makes La Fumee Intense very appealing. Intense is much more well constructed and definitely more complex than La Fumee Original. Yet, there is something unmistakably beautiful that I crave and adore in the simpler, cleaner and more linear smoky incense dry down of La Fumee Original (versus the dry down of Intense). Seems like the smokiness and incense of La Fumee Original are lost amongst the more varied and complex notes of Intense. La Fumee Intense's longevity, performance, silage are all pretty fierce & favorable, as opposed to the closer-to-the body, shorter wearing performance of Original. If this helps, I find La Fumee Original a somewhat "easier," all day, every day wear; whereas due to its intensity and complexity, I might wear La Fumee Intense during the fall/winter months, at night, out for dinner, on a special occasion, etc. In a very funny way, as yet another reviewer noted, with the addition of spiciness, lavender & oud, La Fumee Intense seems more suitable for men, whereas La Fumee Original seems more suitable for women. And yes, as this reviewer stated, "...the LATE dry down is quite beautiful and definitely worth the wait." Either way, you cannot go wrong! Intense, or Original...I love them both!

Compared to the exquisite original La Fumee, La Fumee Intense, is more incense- and cardamom-focused with less elemni up front. The oud is smooth, high-quality, and likeable. The spices are a bit sharper (not in a bad way) than in LF as there is no sandalwood accord to blend the edges of the composition together. The chamomile and lavender are subtle, but play their part if you pay attention (the former being more noticeable). I hardly detect any patchouli at all. I can't say I like this one better than the original or the others in the series, but it is still a solid, wonderful Miller Harris fragrance. Definitely unisex, maybe leans masculine, though I wear it without hesitation.

Has 2 distinct phases. The opening is sweet, balsamic, comforting, almost boozy and lasts for 1-2h with strong projection. The dry down is smokey + fresh spices and extremely good, emotive and reminds me of Christmas or the very high quality incense I once experienced burning in a wooden Austrian chalet - this stage lies very close to the skin. I purchased on the strength of the dry down but the problem is so much would need to be applied for anyone to experience it they would be choked by the opening. However I thought this was clearly the best out of the La Fumme range.

عطری هست که جابجایی بوی خیلی آهسته ای داره. اول کار رایحه بیشتر بصورت اسپایسی ظاهر میشه. بعد از مدتی بوی فلفل سیچوان قابل تشخیصه و در نهایت هم عود هست که تکمیل کننده عطر هست. بوی هل در این عطر وجود داره؛ ولی خیلی محسوس نیست ----------------------------------------- This perfume have very slow scent changes. Top note is spicy, then after about 1 hour; you can feel pepper like scent and after that oud is appear.

By far my favourite of all the beautiful Miller Harris perfumes. It is smoky, spicy but also has a fresh, herbal, elegant tone, probably because of the lavender and chamomile. The incense note reminds me of the sangkangs (incense burners) in Tibetan temple complexes, and makes me feel calm and grounded. I secured a backup bottle in the Miller Harris website's sale.

The previous reviewer (tonileefiore) is spot on with her review. This is my first date (blind buy) with any of MH "La Fumee" series. Starts with a blast of spicy cardamom, supported by a strong woody accord and lavender (cannot spot what this opening reminds me of, but I've definitely smelt that before). The lavender then tones-down to leave space for some vanillic resin and a delicate chamomille/floral accord. What about the incense? Yes, it's there, part of the blend, as a supporting backbone, but it's definitely not a main player here. Only in the base will one spot a weak woody note reminding me of oud, made earthy by a shy patchouli. The (very) late drydown finally justifies the name of this fragrance, by letting a raw frankincense swimming up to the surface and dance with the patchouli. Probably the most interesting part of the fragrance, assuming one would have heavily overpsrayed and be patient enough to wait 4-6 hours for that to appear (useless to say: at that stage the fragrance is just a weak skin scent - at the point where I sprayed 4 times and let dry a minute in between each spray, that is: heavily overpsrayed). Overall a nice floriental more suited for colder days than nights, given its below average performance, and overall thin structure. Since it's said to be the best performer of the "La Fumee" flankers, that will for sure sign the end of my exploration of this series. I see this one standing as a high-end designer fragrance, more than niche, in terms of quality. You understood it, I was expecting more from a hyped house like Miller Harris. Still, a great purchase at current discounter pricing, but that fragheads that are quite far in their journey may want to pass on. Interesting, but not stunning. Just a like for now. Fall days, 25+ Edit: I have been a little harsh in my judgement. Actually, at the 2nd wear, the unique spicy chamomille accord developed, combines beautifully with the oud-y note, and the projection is (slightly) better. Promoted to (a small) love!

I love incense and cardamom. I was disappointed to find a sort of pickle aspect to this. I blame the elemi and geranium. Elemi has been known to ruin a scent for me. My skin seems to amplify both geranium and elemi. I can just about make out the herbal aspect to this. I definitely get plenty of oud. What a shame. The longevity is the best from the fumee range of MH scents. After nearly hour the geranium eases off and it's better. I suspect the geranium and elemi don't like each other. It's still quite a dark, smoky creation. I can still just about detect a pickle thing going on in the background. I will have to test again in a week or so. It might be down to what I've eaten in the last couple of days or my new meds. I joke not. Your diet and meds will change your chemistry. It has good longevity but the sillage is pretty poor considering these warm 20 degree conditions.

In one sentence drydown is: herbal/ incense with vanilla, nice soft and lasting.

It's hard to speak of this fragrance without mentioning the original La Fumee or others in the line. The original La Fumee, which I've reviewed already, is what really started my olfactory journey. I believe it to be truly unisex in the way (the whole line) that most of niche perfumery is meant to be, and there isn't anything in this to make me feel as if I'm wearing a men's fragrance. La Fumee Intense is the truest to the original DNA, and while it is a tiny bit simplified in its composition, it is more intense and does last much longer than the original. I feel that in comparison to the original the Intense version is somehow more threedimensional and less austere. There is a very slight sweetness (even juiciness?) to it in comparison to the original's dryness, although I don't necessarily detect any fruit in this the way it is present in some others (Maroc and Ottoman). But I do have a feeling that this also has a cumin note that is unlisted, although it's not a prominent one even if it's there. It could also be the cardamom and geranium combination that can come across like this. In comparison to others in the line it is definitely one of the spicier ones. Yet it's a balanced spiciness that doesn't become overbearing. It's not as nearly as sweet or fruity as Maroc or Ottoman and is less woody than Arabie. So in a way it's the balanced middle point of the entire La Fumee collection. If one could only have one of the entire collection, this is probably the one I would recommend. And I have or have had all of them. The projecion on me really depends on weather, but longevity is around 8 hours. Longer in warmer and more humid weather.

Classic on one arm, Intense on the other. Intense: is sweeter, juicier, slightly less smokey perhaps and definitely more intense version (not difficult, due to the classic fume's longevity issues, which becomes dry smokey veil after 2 hours). prominent Oud note does appear and then recedes after about 30-45 minutes. very nice. has a truly lovely dry down. can't decide which i prefer. not smelling the same as these, but Classic resembles Penhaligon's Elixir and Passage d'Enfer. Whereas Intense resembles those, but more akin to Ambre Sultan to my nose, but more unisex - if that helps differentiate. feeling a bit spicey ambered and incensed out right now.

This is a nice cardamom scent. All other notes seem to support that well-known spicy cumin/cardamom accord that dominates this fragrance. However, MH does a great job with this, as it doesn’t come across as sweaty or dirty. There are hints of freshness and elegance, and a touch of exoticism swirling around in the cocktail. Ironically, I get almost no smoke or incense at all until the final stages, as has been noted below. Longevity is ok, certainly nothing noteworthy, but suits the scent profile just fine. The price seems a bit high for what you’ll get with this, but we all set our own discretionary spending levels...

My husband bought for me at tx maxx for £32. A blind buy, thought if I dont like, I will just put it on ebay. It was on sale and plastic wrapp was broken. Someone probably opened it, tested, didnt like it and put it back. I wiped it against my skin and thought: whoa, no surprise, someone didnt like it! Insence and more insence and oud! But when it started to settle there was also lavender. After a few hours I am nearly in love and I find it as a sister of CK Obsession and Yves Rocher Venice. Beautiful fragrance, probably discontinued, hence in tk maxx. Well worth £32 (but never rrrp £170!)

I love this brand I don't know why I haven't bought from them yet! So many gems here, La Fumee, La Fumee arabie, this. I think it's just that other brands in this genre got to me first, but this is definitely a house worth having. Elemi seems rich in these scents, but in a good resinous non sour way. Beautiful spices and incense. Good lasting power, not too expensive. 10/10. Making me want to stock up :) But I have enough perfumes for 20 years so I will stick to samples and decants for now. ** 200 samples for swap UK - check my customs, 10+ bundles! **

This reads masculine to me. The incense is right on top w/ the first spray. The lemony quality of the elemi comes in right away, the lavender is distant but still there. In the heart of the perfume the geranium comes in and give a sharp and fresh spicy rose effect. The dry down is smoky and slightly sweet powder. All in all a really good fragrance but this blind buy will be going to my husband, luckily he likes it also.

Very lovely perfume. Elegant and easy to wear. Balsamic, amber and spicy, vaguely sweet and a hint of something lovely that I cant put my finger on. I think it's being discontinued. Dont be deceived by the silly name. It does not smell of smoke. Good projection. Massively underrated.
