La Fumee Ottoman

I fell in love with this special edition when visiting the Miller Harris Boutique in London. I sprayed it on my wrist and after the whole day took off my leather jacket thinking oh what's that lovely scent on the sleeve... it just got better and better. So annoying that a scent this wonderful should be limited edition grrrrrr ! La Fumee Ottoman is more feminine than what I remember "La Fumee" which I had a sample of. But that's not to say that you wouldn't enjoy it if you are a guy who likes oriental scents, attars etc. La Fumee Ottoman opens with a blast of rose cardamom scented incense and a very noticeable cedar / cumin aspect that blends in well with the overall sweetness. This is what I would call the first stage. The fragrance then movees through a more spicy and almost powdery phase where I notice patchouli. Finally the drydown loops back to the incense theme reminding me of fruit infused shisha clouds...It took me a few months to jump on board and get a full bottle (when an online retailer had it on special offer which seemed to be a one off) - no regrets I love this stuff.

Very, very lovely - it shares the same warm, complex, nuanced swaddling of spices of all the La Fumees - but not quite worth the large leap in price from the standard edition, IMHO. I sprung for both because I *love* the basic one but find the rose note a bit overbearing, and was hoping for a similar mix but smokier, spicier and a bit more masculine and savoury rather than sweet. This kind-of-does that, but it's really not so far away from the original line and paradoxically the longevity seems poorer, on my skin at least. Having said that - still absolutely beautiful, not too overbearing for such a powerful range of notes, can be worn with anything and to any occasion. I love it and use it a lot - it's intensely comforting and gives you a real lift. I'm just not sure this one is worth the special-edition premium price, and do now sort-of-regret having both this and the straight ahead La Fumee. BUT, if you find this (or any Fumee) at a price that suits you, snap it right up. It's absolutely quality gear and you will not be sorry.

Just would like to add to my review below... I have had La Fumee Ottoman for a while but I am not so excited by it anymore. considering the price tag it doesn't have the best sillage and longevity and there is a middle phase where the rose tobacco and incense step back and I am left with an almost soapy old school patchouli man cologne vibe. Eventuall it's all good again but... it's not exactly perfect so I have started looking into layering as well (will try Boudoir, Al Rehab Saat Safa as a base). So the reason I write again today is that I received Aramis Calligraphy Rose today, a blind buy. I sprayed it on and once the slightly herbal opening calmed down I was left with a superstrong rose incense scent with a powerful drydown that resembles the very best of La Fumee Ottoman. So before you get depressed over the fact that LFO is limited edition and damn expensive, head over to Aramis and try the Calligraphy Rose.

Tried this the other day in one of the famous London department stores and fell in love with it straight away. I agree with d_l_esmond's analysis and cannot add to it much more other than it is absolutely adorable to wear especially in this crisp and cold weather that we currently enjoy in London. It is the perfect scent to wear for it gives you instant warmth, forces everyone else to cuddle up to you and snuggle up under that cashmere luxury scarf (or for the lovers and couples under that duvet). It would also be a lovely scent to wear to bed, when you just had a hot bath and fresh bed linen. You will be dreaming of Ataturk, presumably, as he had the winning formula for some time....Happy dreaming! 8/10. Truly sophisticated and perhaps a perfect first incense fragrance in case Amouage is too hefty for you.

My second Miller Harris score. I have the La Fumee and like it. That one is about incense, labdanum and sandalwood, but this one is so, so much better. The addition of the cumin and cardamom warms this up and the tonka turns this into what I think of as a real Woody Oriental. This perfume has more dimensions than La Fumee. The journey for me is: incense - amber - spicy - rose - tonka. Stays on my skin and has decent sillage. Super easy to wear. Super sexy. I'll be wearing this in cool to cold weather to help keep me warm.... EDIT: As the weather has gotten cooler this fragrance has gotten more beautiful.

I love layering La Fumee Ottoman with Chinatown by Bond No. 9. To me the smoky incense and cumin of Ottoman works perfectly with the peachy floor wax (and incense-y) notes in Chinatown ... the alchemy turns Chinatown's flowers into a sort of spicy potpourri, and the resulting aroma gives cozy traditional Chinese shop vibes ... the lacquered wood shelves full of salves and teas and herbs and spices, incense lit in a corner, freshly waxed floors, dried wildflower and rose petals in porcelain dishes. It's really lovely.

This is a smooth oriental style, the rose is just nice and not overpowering. I wish it has stronger sillage. Overall nice and easy wearing. A lighter version or Calligraphy i can say..

This seems to me a polite, understated Amouage, if Amouage would do such things. It has the backbone in common with the other Fumees, but starts with a lovely, very highly quality rose (somewhat shortlived), then moves into a light oriental spicy phase (dominant cardamom). The dry, incense and wood/smoky base ties everything together quite nicely. It took me a while to get it, initially seemed a bit fragmented and disorienting. However, I really like it now - exudes quality and it is quite long lasting. I think this is fundamentally unisex, but as a perfume coming from a more Middle Eastern tradition.

This one diverges the most from the original (of the flanker's I've smelled). It's clean despite the spicy cumin, and it's also smokey and resinous with notable amber. And I'd rank this in the middle between the other two I've sniffed, in order of my preference: La Fumee Arabie, La Fumee Ottoman, followed by the La Fumee original. La Fumee Ottoman is very masculine but there is a lot to like about it if you're in smoky, ambery and resinous, middle eastern fragrances. Worth sampling but it's not a safe bottle blind buy. -

This is a beautiful perfume. A slightly spiced rose opening leads yet more roses, but now they not only spicy, they are woody and touched w/ amber. The dry down almost goes into gourmand territory. It smells slightly like vanilla and fruity caramels. This would be a great perfume for date nights.

Very disappointed in this. I found La Fumee Intense, Arabie and Ottoman for $50 at TJMaxx and grabbed them all assuming there had to be one that I liked. Sadly, not the case. I did like Ottoman the best for the rose and amber, but it was still headache inducing and had a weird and unpleasant carbonation feel in the back of my nose when I sniffed, like smelling doctor pepper right when the bottle is opened. I had wanted to try this house for such a long time, but I’m afraid it leaves me cold. Even for the deep discount, I returned them all. If I am craving incense, I’ll reach for Tauer or Amouage and if I want a trip to Constantinople I’ll grab a Lutens.

Starts very scary, all kinds of weird herbal chemicals, dry down is much better with herbal vanilla. More masculine then feminine and long lasting. Cold weather heavy perfume. I didn't not take it despite 50$ price, as I have a better ones to use.

با تعجب بايد بگم كه رايحه كلي و غالب در اين ادكلن ، از ابتدا تا انتها ، بوي توتون بسيار لطيف و نرم و خوشمزه و با كيفيتي است كه مثل اون رو به جز توباكو وانيل تام فورد ، جايي استشمام نكرده ام . اين ادكلن با رايحه اي بخوري كاملا شفاف و تميز كه با رايحه اي با كيفيت و دوست داشتني از رز و همچنين هل قاطي شده ، شروع ميشه و اين تركيب رايحه ها باغالب بودن نت هل در اين مرحله ، رايحه هاي ادويه اي شرقي را تداعي ميكنه. اين ادكلن از ابتدا طعم و بويي با شيريني خفيف و بسيار خوشمزه اي داره و اين شيريني جزئي تا آخر كار هم وجود دارد . كم كم زيره و پچولي با رايحه قابل توجهي از چوب ، با حضور همان طعم شيرين و خوشمزه شروع مي شود . نهايتا رايحه بالساميكي و رزيني به همراه كمي رايحه چوبي كه مرتب ضعيف تر ميشه را به همراه نتهاي ميوه اي خواهيم داشت. رايحه اين ادكلن هر چي ميمونه بهتر و خوشبوتر و لطيف تر ميشه . بالانس و كيفيت نتها مثال زدني است و بيشتر به درد فصلهاي سرد ميخورد. ماندگاري خيلي خوب و پخش بوي خوبي دارد قيمت نسبتا بالا و بسته بندي و شيشه بسيار زيبايي دارد.

This is a complex fragrance. Incense/sandalwood,a dose of labdanum....cumin...(not overbearing)...underlying sweet accord...rose-ish...Well blended for sure. This is one that must have time to develop on your skin/chemistry. This is very unisex,but it goes thru the masc/fem periods on the skin. Glorious scent in the drydown.Good projection/sillage. A class act,IMHO. Found on clearance @ TJ Maxx for a mere $32.00,so no complaints from me...lol....!!! Curious to try the other fumee edition someday.

One of the sweeter la fumees, this one caught my attention at an airport. I obtained a sample, and realized it is very spicy, and I have to say after a few tries I decided I would find the cumin dominance too overwhelming to wear. Feeling victorious for dodging an expensive purchase that would turn into regret :) If you love a strong cumin, but need the sweetness alongside it, this one is for you. To my nose the incense is not dominant.

Where in the US can one buy Miller Harris other than online? I found one in Tj maxx :)

Beautiful sweeter version of La Fumée Arabie. I just wish it was stronger.
