I received a lovely mini bottle of vivre along with some other classic samples and minis from my generous new friend and swap buddy, @royalroad..thank you dear friend for giving me the chance of trying classic gems Vivre opens with a faint citrus/green accord but the star player of top notes is coriander,there aren't much aldehydes here Vivre has a floral heart but to be honest,none of them standout for me,if smelled very carefully I can say there is some rose and jasmine there,the only flower that I detected without much effort was iris,so,it has a blended floral heart which is mostly a powdered iris/rose on my skin I believe drydown is the dramatic part,there is oakmoss,leather,myrrh and sandalwood which are nicely blended but still,all of them are strong and glowing...I'm not into woody/leather scents and can't get along well with chypers,and vivre is definitely a chyprefloral on me,not a floral aldehyde..it's strange but after it dries down(which I don't like,too woody and rough for me,I believe it can be uni)it changes,as if it re-dries-down to a heavenly rose,iris,myrrh,oakmoss combo well rounded by a creamy sandalwood and with just a faint touch of soft and warm leather..this scent is very feminine,magical,soft,powdery,elegant,classy,beyond this world and cold and warm the same time So I don't like this scent until it reaches this point(after almost an hour)but I loooove the drydown and it stays for ages on me..I dabbed just a little on my arm and now I'm in a powdery rosey heaven I can't get enough of it..I guess sillage is great too It's wearable around year but I guess best choice is mild weather..I find first hour of it almost unisex and mature and only for classic chyper lovers but drydown is youthful,recommended to everyone mostly powdery rose,iris lovers and is very wearable for every age I suspect maybe it's juice has turned because it opens kind of sharp and alcoholic..don't really know..just can say my nose is enjoying this beauty and there's no need to sniff my skin(by the way it doesn't smell this much pretty when I sniff my skin)I get whiffs of it as I'm writing my review and this joy is continued for hours Gonna save my little bottle for personal pleasure,when I'm at home and can enjoy this heavenly whiffs I wish they reproduce this gem,it's one of best scents my nose has experienced till now ❤❤❤❤

Max Gavarry Is the perfumer for Molyneux Vivre 1971 & needs to be credited for this gorgeous Masterpiece of a fragrance. I had Vivre Eau De Toilette & it was Stunning how it unfolded & enveloped me. Vivre Molyneux was originally made for Queen Farah Pahlavi, & wearing it, I felt like royalty, With luxurious wafting all around me. So beautiful it makes me weep sometimes! I miss it so much! & It's a big, big Love! This was an aldehyldic fruity floral chypre that eventually dried down into softer greens, suave myrrh, leather,nuances, with marigolds, & peaches threading throughout. What is a similar satisfying affordable cheapie you ask? Liz Claiborne Triangle Bottle & is a beauty that can be purchased for under 15 dollars at TJ Maxx, Marshalls', Ross, & Burlington! So, even if I long for the real deal, I also need to enjoy what I can & move on. FOMO is messed up & life is to be lived & cherished with our loved ones. Ta Da! Happy Smelling! Update: I am also reminded of Vivre Molyneux while I am wearing Dolce & Gabbana Red Cap & they are similar in the dry down & throughout the fragrant journey as floral aldehydes.

Just a soupçon of Vivre parfum on each hand and my body doused with the EDT sends me to heaven. Beaming aldehydes and the vegetal stems of springtime new growth converge. There's a vibrating coriander and angelica escorting a backlit pageant of fluorescent florals. I imagine the flowers having a bioluminescence, a panoply of indolic white florals, day-glow marigolds and magenta hyacinths, UFOS: unidentified flowering objects. Starting off vibrant and benevolent, Vivre slowly simmers into a cinnamon shade, the slow drip of warm resins and the caress of vetiver, a bit more seductive, retreating to a wooded nook beyond the grasses, to watch the sunset. Vivre is sort of a Goldilocks: neither too sharp nor too round, neither too floral nor too mossy. Just right...just exquisite. The soundtrack for Vivre: "Love Song for a Dead Che" from the United States of America.

I used this all the time in the 1970s and it is the only perfume I've ever used for which perfect strangers would stop me in the street (or a shop) and ask its name! Why do really good perfumes always disappear? Is it a marketing ploy? Other priceless ones I used which disappeared for no apparent reason were, "Shocking" by Schiapareli, "Calandre" and "Metal" by Paco Rabanne and the timeless Givenchy III -- where can I buy these now? Does anyone have a link to a nostalgic perfumes site where they will let you purchases smaller sizes of the genuine items?

excellent vintage-type scent. very classy, i imagine an elegant mature lady wearing it. (i wear it too, though im hardly classy lol.) very sweet, in a comforting way, also refreshing, even in the summer heat. in fact, the name VIVRE is very suitable, i feel like enjoying life while wearing it (i have the vintage version and thankful for it). the opening is bright and floral, the dry-down is like caramel with cinnamon... i love it. considering to buy another bottle.

I discovered this perfume back in the early 1970s, fell in love with it, and have worn it off and on ever since. I especially love the floral angelica-laden top notes which are rather unique. Nothing else really smells like this.

Molyneux have relaunched and re-orchestrated Vivre in a new bottle in early 2017. You can find more information at basenotes.net and the brand website as well. I hope it to be a good reformulation of the glorious vintage Vivre.

Very SAD, the reformulated release, in the plain round bottle, does NOT smell like the original, some notes in it smell like plastic or chemicals. It has spoilt my memory of this once beautiful scent.

One can still find this good juice on auctionsites ones and a while, that's how i found mine and am very pleased , it was a blind buy due to the very good reviews it has.

Love this scent and just found a bottle on eBay! An interesting side note: This perfume was the favorite of Empress Farah Pahlavi. Beautiful woman with exquisite taste!

One of the best perfumes I have ever put on. Delicious! I have no words to describe it. It's a pity I can't find it anymore here in Brazil.

This came out when I was a teenager and I was going to the beach almost everyday in summer. Loved it!! Where is it now??

I own a sample which age I don't know., so maybe some lighter notes have disappeared. Still, this sample smells divine. The sample I own is a soft and well-rounded leather-wood-powdery floral. The leather is warm and not aggressive nor bitter, the sandalwood note is delicious, the oakmoss and vetiver are old-style and classically elegant, I can smell resins, and the coriander note is discreet and spicy. The flowers are not distinguishable in this sample, just a globally floral aura. From this sample alone, this must be a very very beautiful scent, a wintertime comforting woody chypre. I would very much like to have a bottle.

I haven't sniffed the current incarnation of Vivre, but I used to have a love-hate relationship with the scent years ago. On my skin it started off with a shot of puckered lemon and something resembling roses, and never quite settled into anything with which I could truly get comfortable. But on my mother's skin Vivre became smooth and cold as marble, with an incandescent elegance that my skin just would not, or could not, conjure up. If you are the least bit curious about this scent, I encourage you to give it a try. Who knows? You, too, might fall in love-hate with it!

Joie De Vivre Vivre by Molyneux is unfortunately one of the more obscure fragrances from the 70's. It's been discontinued and you're lucky if you can get your hands on it. What a fragrant gem I have in my collection. The aldehydes are not too far from resembling the Chanel perfumes. Then you're hit by an all-powerful scent of green leaves, oak moss vetiver and warm incense and myrrh. A lot goes on in this fragrance while you wear it and lasts for 10 hours. Leather that wears like sexy red leather. Oriental sandalwood. Chanel style woodsy notes, balsamic myrrh and aromatic spices. The flowers are taking a back seat. I smelled mostly iris, rose and hyacinth but they are well rounded with ylang-ylang, jasmine and lily of the valley. I'm getting the feeling that this was one of the early "green" chypres or "clean green" scents of the 70's. I have another such fragrance in my collection: Aliage by Estee Lauder. Vivre is similar to Aliage but it appears to be more developed and sophisticated because of the bigger floral heart. After about 2 or 3 hours it smells like an indolic jasmine, very strong, and the green notes plus the greenness of lily of the valley is very noticeable. This is totally an autumn and winter fragrance. A well balanced woodsy floral. Smells expensive and mature but it's amazing. I consider myself lucky to have it. I'm not selling it!

Vivre was first launched in 1931. (described as a rich floral) The bottle was then rectangular, very similar of the Chanel 5 bottle. Then discontinued in the 1960's. It was then reformulated by Max Gavarry under IFF and relaunched in 1971. It was classified (the one from 1971) as an aldehydic floral chypre fragrance. It begins with secret spices sprinkled over an aldehyde bittersweet orange top, followed by a rich, elegant tropical floral heart, resting on a sensual, leathery and aromatic woody base. Top notes: (the one from 1971) aldehydes, bittersweet orange, tea blossom, coriander, leafy green note, angelica, bergamot Heart notes: orris, orange blossom, jasmine, hyacinth, ylang-ylang, lily-of-the-valley, Bulgarian rose Base notes: leather, sandalwood, tonka bean, oakmoss, vetiver and myrrh. Then discontinued, relaunched in 2017 (totally different composition of notes and bottle design) These are the notes of the new Vivre released in 2017: peach peel, plum and blackcurrant in the opening, with a heart of Jasmine sambac, lily-of-the-valley and rose; the base is oriental with notes of sandalwood, tonka bean and vanilla.

This was one of my mother's perfumes. She has a small miniature bottle which she gave to me when I first went off to college. I hated the stuff then but I appreciate it now and enjoy it. This has already "turned" so what I'm getting mostly is oak moss and sandalwood. It has faint scents of dry leather, myrrh and coriander. I would say that it probably smells spicy or a combination of spicy-floral when you buy one and start off fresh and new with it. It's definitely a chypre floral in the style of Y of Yves Saint Laurent. It has a strong iris and hyacinth which makes it powdery. It's also a bit reminiscent of Mitsouko. Elegant, sophisticated, very French, something I could smell on women like Jackie Kennedy, Catherine Deneuve and Sophia Loren. It's still very beautiful if you're crazy about woodsy fragrances. I prefer Ivoire de Balmain but this isn't too bad. I think it suits certain special moments and occasions. I'm going to place my order.

Vivre is a lovely chypre. I layer this with Aliage by Estee Lauder because I like how they harmonize together. They share similar notes, namely oak moss and vetiver. Vivre is less aldehydic than Aliage and it opens with a coriander scent along with light florals: orange blossom, hyacinth, iris, rose and jasmine. The flowers do not take over the scent and you can hardly call this frag a floral fragrance. This is all about the base notes: the myrrh, the sandalwood, the vetiver and oak moss. Each of these notes can be experienced by the sense of smell. Fortunately for me I love oak moss sandalwood vetiver and myrrh. I would say that one note in particular that stands out is the myrrh. It's a warm, and very cozy, powdery scent. It's perfect for winter time. It's mature, womanly, and very French. It smells like every French ballet instructor I've met. This is very sweet, sophisticated and easy to love.

I agree with the views of every one of the reviewers below. I knew someone who also used this when it was out and so I chased down two bottles intended for them. You could see the effect it had, taking them right back to those times; all the same they decided it was too many memories to return to(!) So VIVRE hunters I have: the classic VIVRE shape, the bottle with the stopper, and a little under half full. Just the bottle in itself is now a rarity. The other is a 30ml EDP bottle with its box - box is a little worn - and a little over half full. For one or both get in touch while they could still be yours. It just bears to add that to some this, "leaves Chanel 19 in the dust".

If you like YSL Y .. this is a smoother rendition .. the aldehydes are strong, the green notes give off a bitter vegetal green of the stem of the hyacinth then the rose and lilly of the valley recover the floral heart enriched with ylang. The jasmine makes this sexy without being overt. Definately elegant, polished and put together. Its not as mossy as GIII, calandre less floral than Vivre. Its lovely in the genre of 70s french perfumes. It was a favorite of Royalty and heads of state in the 70s-80s.
