Hysteria

I bLind bought this as I couldn’t find a sample and it has been on my list for some time despite never smelling it. Received my bottle today (got it on BF sale), and I really like it! It’s cold AF right now so I know it’s now really the right perfume to wear during this time of year where I live, but had to try it. It’s reminiscent of a few I’ve sampled lately and really liked but felt they were missing something, and this fills that gap. I know I tend to buy one of four kind of frags, either vanilla ones (a recent thing), tropical beachy scents like this that have a green lush Tiare/Hibiscus etc thing going on, more floral focused and not as beachy (in what I call the more romantic and classic perfumes like AG gardenia passion and van cleef gardenia petals), and amber/smoky/woody frags that are mostly unisex, like the myrrh mystique (my latest one for a fall winter scent), and Jo Malones ginger biscuit which I’ve had since 2023, best suited for for this time of year. I need to stop myself from buying more summer frags since I won’t be able to really wear for another 4 months from now, but I can’t help but love the smell of REALISTIC sunscreen scents- and this smells like legit sunscreen in the best way, like vintage Bain de soleil and a an expensive tiarre frag over it while laying out at your 5 star hotel private beach. This is a true sunscreen scent and I am here for it!

Hysteria, love her. I was not previously a heady florals person but this got me instantly! It was my favorite from the discovery set. The BIG white florals, jasmine & tuberose, are the body of this one for me. The other notes making the occasional cameo but mostly working as background scenery (& doing that job really well!) I get some coconut, some suntan lotion & sometimes a little bubblegum from the tuberose! I do wish the palo santo would make a more obvious appearance - but thats not exactly a complaint - because I do love it as it is! I had a very successful layering moment with this and Ossuary from La-Curie which is a Palo Santo heavy beauty* I do not get the indolic skank that happens for some people - With my skin chemistry it vibes 'fresh' while still balmy and lush. Feels like you had a great bath, and are taking an evening walk, smelling the new buds of a night blooming jasmine vine mingling with the fresh air & evening humidity on your clean skin.

A hot summer day like no other. This is the scent of pure unadulterated 95 degree humid weather. You're on the beach, gathering firewood with bugs all around you and the sun blinding and burning you. In the distance from the jungle, you smell Tuberose and Jasmine. You're parched. Luckily you remembered sunscreen

I'm quite fond of Hysteria and have had it for a while now. I brought a decant of it with me to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. Someone once suggested using a new perfume or acquiring one early on in a trip so that you could develop a strong association and scent memory. In the future, you could smell the fragrance and be transported back to that specific trip. Hysteria is predominantly a heavy white floral. Tuberose is the star, laced with coconut, and suntan oil. At first sniff, it's really quite strong so I prefer to let it air out a little before you can enjoy it. In my mind, it pairs well with tan skin, sweat from the humid heat, and palm fronds swaying in a coastal breeze.

It's a brutal summer day, the mosquitos are terrible, and I put on Hysteria by Mondo Mondo as if succumbing to it. The concept of the fragrance is something about a colonist woman in a state of paranoia in some jungle, but I get more of the summer melt, globs and globs of sunblock, drinking coconut water to stave off the fatigue and mirage. After a time you smoke a bowl and the sunblock smell is less harsh, or it's the nice part of the sunblock, and you are able to dissolve into the heat and the sound of waves sweeping closer.

"Hysteria" is aptly named. The notes suggest something smooth and milky, but Hysteria has some unexpectedly jagged edges. It's a bright warm-weather scent, but not an easygoing one. Instead, imagine white florals and musks with the grit of sand and the rough husks of coconuts. It's sharp and scratchy. For me, this is a fragrance for sweaty nighttime dancing on the beach during spring break, but not one for oceanside daydreaming. It's similar to Crazy Enough by West Third Brand, though I prefer that fragrance's truer jasmine.

Surprisingly dry tropical scent; shards of coconut shavings mixed with dried bits of tuberose petals and stems, with bits of palo santo woods chips tossed in. The scent of dried sunblock lingers very strongly over the entire concoction. This definitely requires body heat (even sweat) to evoke the creaminess one would associate with summer. Rather big sillage (more than arm's length), my sample near the crook of my elbow is still going strong 4 hrs later. I predict this will be an 8hr+ scent.

Susan Alexandra in Hysteria by Mondo Mondo: She looks out her window and waits for the summer to change to spring. Everything she feels, she feels it deeply, powerfully, and sensually. She thrives on roll-on-Gewürstraminer, palo santo, coconut oil, and red nails, obvi. She is heady and intense, but also fresh, she is the Goddess of Seltzer. Susan Alexandra is full of love and tanning oil. A beautifully choreographed act of summer: lying under the shade of the palm, in jumbo sunglasses, drinking coconut milk from a reusable straw (glass). This is an homage to a deep breath, glistening with dangling, iridescent miracles of my Fruit Face Crossbody Bag. Palm trees, however, are not native to NYC. Therein lies a deep pool of sewers and rain-drop-fringed-cheese dip? In the city, at the beach on the balcony in the city, “Hey Siri, can I get a tan through my apartment window?” The world is suddenly shaded, cast under a cloud. Twirling for a brief moment, just long enough for the jasmine to summon a deep breath and take you to far away places. Despite this, there is a constant and growing damp heat–it is, afterall, her favorite season (summer.) Sun Shower, either laughing or crying. “Crystals. Crystals. Crystals are ahead.” The fluffed, pearled cloud finally passes, and the sun takes that deep breath which glistens over the salty streets. This is birth, renewal, strength. Looking down on the avenue she notices the roses in the sun opening up (blooming) all at once completely, absolutely, suddenly (utterly). It’s an unexplained mystery where the fields ebb and flow, unfolding before your eyes. She caught it. Her tears suggest she is day dreaming of swimming in some juicy milky sea or taking a stroll through bubbling strawberry fields. A would-be perfect day for a picnic, surrounded by sweaty cheese, unwashed fruit, and jasmine tea, with ice long melted. Being swarmed by butterflies who narrowly escaped from their cocoons, just in time for this floral embrace. At this precise moment it becomes my second favorite season (spring.) As if in a memory of sweet summer, as if on the balcony, but we have just a window, dreaming of doo-dads and being kissed. Instagram: @scent_speculation

This brought back memories from my Y2K teen era in San Antonio Texas during summer break... coconut paletas, reapplying sun tan lotion and still getting red, replacing swimming with showering, reapplying sunblock lotion, white cast, no makeup needed, slippery Prada mules, tennis skirt and sporty cardi, Tiffany and Co silver heart choker, air dry waves that smell like pool water. Breakfast at Ocho and simple lunch at Mariposa, shopping for dinner. Sunblock soaping off in late night shower. Expensive af sun block lotion. Heady jasmine and tuberose but very clean and vibrant, not dated at all. Didn’t expect to love this.

Jasmine is at the heart of this scent for me. Yet the jasmine is not as indolic and heavy as in other scents, there is a dryness in Hysteria that keeps the scent very balanced and wearable. The suntan lotion note is pleasant and not too forward, more like a whisper. I sampled first and I am glad I bought when the company was having a sale.

I want to try this so bad!!! Why don't we have more fragrances like this? I'm considering a DIY option. It's so hard to find a decent suntan lotion/coconut/coppertone scent. If a fragrance house composed one - it would be in nearly everyone's collection. They are so nostalgic!

hysteria is if humidity could be bottled. the white florals are so indolic and dense, the supporting notes barely cut through it. ironically enough, i use this to layer since it gives such body and warmth to other scents. on skin, hysteria can be fleeting though.

The most intense white floral fragrance I think I've tried, it's pure indolic stank and sweat-addled creaminess. This is the smell of walking the beach of a Caribbean resort and finding a body washed ashore in 110 degree heat.
