Explorer Ultra Blue

Rating : 8.5 / 10 Price : good Fragrance journey is truely subjective and I mean it. I was gasligted by so many influencers and folks, not to try Ultra Blue at all. I regret listening to 'em so much. My goodness this is my gem!! I wonder if folks ever actually tried this with there nose This is now my official office no.1 fragrance period. it's so manly it feels clean, gentleman-ish, inoffensive. Defintely get the marine vibe. Man, Montblanc makes some good stuffs It opens with zingy bergamot, sweet but zesty and then as it dries down I get this super gentle toned down "blue-ish" vibe must be the patchouli and leather playing a role and then sea notes sits together with woods and all together it's just soooo good I don't know where does generic even come from If the seanote is generic, almost all sweet fragrances should also be generic, simply by its numbers and how much mass produced and boringly cloying they are. God, these folks pulling out words that just doesn't even have any significance It's not bold but that's the point. Some colognes should be inoffensive and generic enough to be worn. well everyone has different point of view so I'll stop here. but there's no reason to be hated this much at all. Like, for what? Sometimes not listening to the others rather rewards you back.

I love this fragrance. To me it's like the more mature blue sport fragrance . To me it has the top notes of sport marine, a bright but not too strong bergamot. I do get a slight exotic fruit light time but it's all packed with a strong punch of pink pepper . It all melts into a blue sea marine bubble that sits for the length of the fragrance. It all gets driven by a very light woodsy and pachouli scent. I don't get the leather notes . But I guess I can kinda see how some might. But anyone that tried this do not expect any type of a leather scents . If you start to sweat a bit with this on it really intensifies and makes it smell even better. Only thing I regret is not purchasing a bigger bottle. It's a very good value too. I got the 2oz a year ago for $27 and now I'm seeing the 3.3oz is $34 on jomashop. I have a few other Mont Blanc scents and absolutely love them, so when I first saw the 3.3 rating on this I was surprised and wondered why. Because of the rating, I avoided getting it for a while. Then I saw a bottle of it at one of my regular discounter stores for $24 so I got it. I can tell you 3.3 rating is savagely harsh. I think people who rated it this low either didn't smell it, dont like blue fragrances to begin with, or they can't think for themselves and they let the score influence their decision. It's quite crisp, definitely blue, and it doesn't have any noxious notes in it that have caused me to return fragrances before. It has a Nautica vibe to it, but whereas if you wore Nautica in your teens into your twenties, this is the more mature version. Glad I got it.

I love this fragrance! It's the first cologne I've tried with a "Sea Notes" accord that I actually enjoy. Explorer Ultra Blue features this accord without the "Calone" note. Instead of citrus, I get more fruitiness from the "Exotic Fruits" note, which is great for me since I don’t particularly like citrus scents. I also appreciate that the Ambroxan in this cologne is more tolerable compared to other fragrances containing Ambroxan. I can detect all of the base notes, and the leather note is not animalic, which I find pleasing. I believe this scent is versatile enough to be worn year-round during the day. Currently, I experience about 6 hours of longevity, and I hope that improves over time.

First are there enough Blue’s on the market? Apparently not, so what, who cares....when something is popular and selling everyone’s going to jump on board it’s called fashion and some are trends and others are fads. Explorer Blue is Montblanc impression of a Blue, is it good, yes, is it and EDP, yes, is it totally unique somewhat. This is a decent release and sure it’s not a Bleu de Chanel, or Sauvauge and that’s ok, then it would be a clone. This has spice some sweetness and that fresh clean dry down, women like these kind of smells. So don’t always follow the crowd everyone is wearing Chanel and Dior, stand out and wear Explorer and by the way both are great in my opinion.

This is the first fragrance that I officially bought on my 18th birthday which happened the other day and let me tell you, it is a great marine scent, I understand it is not unique or amazing but I honestly don't care what the reviews and critics say. It smells like what Montblanc describes as "freedom and adventure, refined masculinity and charisma around the world". The other day I wore it and then went to visit my girlfriend and her friend, they both told me they liked my scent. Don't let the reviews get to you, just try it and if you like it then get it, you decide what scent you want to have, and I have found mine.

Similar to voyage but citrus instead of cucumber. Safe not sexy. Good spring/summer for work, church, hanging with friends. I like that it’s pretty much gone by the time I get home from work so I can wear something else at night, however, this is versatile enough to flex into night if your not looking for love. Platonic fragrance. Works better for night than voyage though. Wife likes it. Stupid name, ultra blue. I also can’t find much relationship to original explorer other than the bottle, but that doesn’t bother me. Quite like the bottle. Like the price too. Good value. Will buy again.

Explorer Ultra Blue is a fresh, citrus, aromatic and marine fragrance. Its opening is quite citrusy and fresh, it is pleasant and masculine, and gradually gives way to a more aromatic and marine phase, without many changes in its development. It gives the feeling of being freshly showered and giving a dose of energy. Ultra Blue is fresh and therefore ideal for use on warm days, such as spring and summer. In performance it lasted me at least 8 hrs. (or more)., without much sillage, but not at skin level. It's not as interesting as the original Explorer, but it's versatile and enjoyable.

Underrated. Not bad at all, in fact rather good, especially in the dry down, where it has a fresh blue marine smell against a slightly spicy background. The beginning is a generic blue scent that is nothing much to write home about. However, the bottle is impressive, and performance is very good, where it lasts as a clearly discernible skin scent for 10 or so hours. My only problem with it is that I already have Givenchy Gentleman Only Fraiche which has a very similar (if slightly more minty) smell, but I'll buy it anyway because I like it. End of....

Still can't understand why this gets a lot of hate. I have several popular summer blue scents in my collection such as bvlgari aqva, D&G light blue, blue de channel etc. and this is one of my favorites for hotter weather. It's definitely a marine scent, but also has that kind of green aromatic vibe. Nice and unique smell, low price, longevity on me is about 7 -8 hours , which is great for this type of fragrances. I just can't find any negative thing about this perfume

Despite all the hate, I have tried this on myself multiple times and I truly love it. The aquatic notes blend nicely with the exotic fruits and pink pepper to create a beautiful beach scene. Ambergris is used very nicely here as well. The dry down is predominantly patchouli, and that's a nice finish to such a blue fragrance. I would definitely recommend this. Try it for yourself and you'll realise that all the hate is unfounded.

This is quite nice, actually. So fresh, so watery lemon, is an amazing smell. I ́m still trying to figure out the performance, but is solid for about 5/6 hours with good projection. If you find having problems with performance spray more throughout the day because this is really nice (except for the hatemongers and they ́re ubber comments about synthetic this and that and the smell is boring, etc etc etc.)

This smells like you are at the ocean and the main man Patrick Bateman comes up to steal your girl. As he walks up the strong mineral smell he radiates immediately is enough to take your girl. Only losers who can’t stand the smell of an ultra masculine musky mineral scent hate on ultra blue. If you wanna assert dominance like I do I recommend this. Overall 5/5

Ok, so my experience with explorer ultra blue is very pleasant but i face longivity issue..if you like RL polo blue edt kind of DNA then you will like this too...its just simple crisp freshie aquatic kind of scent which feel very pleasant in high heat summer ☀️, i hope it stay little longer as its so pleasant but longivity is main issue only.💖

I am suprised how people just went posting hate on it mostly if they didnt even try it. I would say, its really good fruity marine perfume, it performs well with over spraying, as i believe you dont need summer fragrance that lasts more than 6 hrs. At the same time it is not an oud amber fragrance that few sprays would get the job done.

A super safe and fresh summer signature scent for casual occasions. It’s fresh, pleasant, and extremely easy to wear. It is slightly generic, but that also makes it a very reliable fallback. I’ve worn it a lot and still really enjoy it, but I’m currently looking for new summer DNAs that feel a bit more exciting and distinctive love-

Not a Wow this is amazing but a clean everyday scent you can wear at the gym at the office and etc. Imo I think ultra blue is a hidden gem that's better then the original after the 3 hours it does become a skin scent and the projection is alright suggest more then 6+ sprays, the opening is harsh to some but the dry down is amazing

Un parfum agréable et sympathique mais sans surprise et qui ne dure pas très longtemps. Comme bien d'autres l'ont écrit ici, parfait pour porter au bureau ou lors d'un diner d'affaires. this fragrance is amazing for the summer, in the opening it smells like citrus and alcohol but after a few seconds it smells like the ocean and there are some strong woody notes in there as well. I had low expectations considering this had a low rating but it's fantastic. scent: 9/10 longevity: 7/10 projection: 7/10

Despite there not being any florals listed in the note breakdown, I’ve always gotten a floral component. For about 3 years it hadn’t hit me, until today, that Ultra Blue is to Mefisto what the original Explorer is to Aventus. Not a 1:1 clone, but this has a Mefisto feel to it. It’s distinctly Mefisto and not SMW.

It's hilarious how people comment on this ultra versatile fresh fragrance that's almost similar to Acqua di Gio Profondo. Explorer Ultra Blue is underrated and hated so much, while Profondo is praised highly. This is arguably Profondo with less salty accord. It is a real dumb reach.

Heavily underrated and overhated. Fragrance although yes, generic, is a simple clean aquatic masculine scent that is a solid summer all rounder. A good release from MontBlanc. Heavy on the sea notes, salty almost slightly peppery. Leather note is nonexistent.

I don't have it myself but my boyfriend wears it every day and I love it so much. it lasts forever, especially on clothes, and I can smell it even when he's further away. my clothes still smell like this after being with him, so I definitely recommend it.

Very underrated. Fresh citrus, clean marine, slightly salty and spicy. Good performance and good value - it's not going to set the world alight but it's solid.

An excellent blue scent. It doesn't bring anything special to the table, but it is an easy wear that gets me the occasional compliment.

This has similarities with Nautica Voyage. Less green, soapy and some peppery. Longevity about 6-7 hours.

I've been testing a sample of Explorer Ultra Blue for the past week and I have to say it's not as bad as the ratings here would suggest. Let's be honest: if we divide fragrances users into mainstream/casual and fragheads, the former will find Ultra Blue a pleasant, well composed and alluring scent; the latter will despise it for being totally boring, unimaginative and repetitive: because this is what it does, bringing in DNAs from several different perfurmes and merging them into a single bottle. Now, measuring the scent for its qualities, I like the marine vibe which share some similarities with the Acqua di Giò line - I'm familiar with the OG and Profumo, and to me is a bit more Profumo than the original one, at least in the opening and initial half an hour. It moves from AdG to Aqva Marine, although not as salty, after 30/40 mins - mixed with a slightly more sweetish/heady ambergris (which surely is ambermax or ambroxan) that really suggests, subtlety and maybe for 20 mins before hitting the drydown, the idea of the floating mass of ambergris during its aging process, in a way; maybe the misterious exotic fruits note, depending on what exotic fruit they had in mind, contributes to it. Durian anyone? I'm joking, I'm joking. It's not challenging of course, quite the contrary -it's Montblanc, they need to appeal a certain audience-, but I find it quite interesting and it adds some spin which I did not expect. The drydown is a rather generic woody/ambroxan, not cloyingly so at least, but that's what the market is liking at the moment - it's a vicious circle we won't get rid of easily nor quickly. Summing it up: unoriginal scent that is well put together, will be a nice initial foray into the contemporary aquatic genre for those building up a collection, may be a very good spring/summer dumbreach scent for many once it hits discounters, doesn't differentiate much from similar products, but is pleasant and has that sweet ambergris thing going on which is curious in such a fragrance. Quite versatile, nice projection, definitely appealing to bystanders, will pull you some compliments. Longevity is ok-ish, at around 6 hours. Groundbreaking? No. Neutral like, my sample is batch L056 from Feb 2021.

This is just nautica voyage but not aquatic and it's citrus instead...even though it says it's aquatic in the accords it doesn't smell aquatic. Nautica voyage has like cucumber smell like some people say, so imagine without that it had citrus instead and you'd get Mont Blanc Ultra Blue This is a nice fragrance, it smells fresh and clean, very unoriginal but it does smell good....but I swear i'm nose blind and anosmic to this, I can't smell anything besides the opening like within literally 10 minutes I can't smell anything on clothes, on skin or on paper. So surely I must be anosmic to what ever they put in here because I don't believe the performance could be that bad especially not by Mont Blanc which usually have long lasting fragrances It's underrated, gets too much hate when it does smell really good...but it's not aquatic so I hate the name Ultra blue and like others mentioned it's not related to Explorer in any way there isn't any Explorer DNA in here almost like a completely different fragrance. I feel like this should be kinda scored about equally to nautica voyage, both very similar fragrances but voyage performs better and smells better than Ultra blue. So what does it actually smell like? it smells like very light citrus, not that overpowering citrus and then as it dries it's more spicy possibly vetiver or wood. Don't be put off by the leather note here you can't smell the leather and if you could then it's very light and weak. Every note in here is light and weak, so it's not overpowering or strong in any way. I do think they need an EDP or intense version of this to make it WAY stronger so you can actually smell the notes. Now you'd probably be thinking citrus & vetiver/wood then it smells like CK defy or another fragrance with citrus & wood? but no it smells the closest to nautica voyage

I agree that this is a safe, fresh scent. It gets a lot of scorn because the original Explorer is well-regarded. I like it, but it is not as impressive as other Montblanc offerings: Explorer, or Legend Spirit. The issue is the value proposition. As a new fragrance, Ultra Blue does not stand out in the crowded market, yet is priced like a top-tier designer product. Explorer had the benefit of being cheaper than Creed's Aventus, while smelling similar. It did not stand out in my collection until I stumbled upon the dramatic difference applying it after moisturizing my skin. It seemed to suspend the pepper note, and the woodsy notes almost indefinitely. A morning application lasted 24 hours as a skin scent, with the usual performance in sillage and scent evolution otherwise. I will try recreating this a few times, but it definitely changed Ultra Blue into an interesting experience. I was smelling pink pepper, pachouli, and woods off myself all day, as opposed to the more blue/oceanic profile it usually provides. I woke up the next morning and could still smell it on my wrists. I have not adjusted my review to account for this use with moisturizer.

This is crazy overhated, if you realize what it’s trying to do, which is a “ultra blue” (marine/aquatic) take on the original explorer, (Aventus DNA) then you will realize that this does that extremely well. To me it has an atypical smooth rounded marine quality, which is the “ultra blue” aspect, and then it’s paired with a lemony citrusy smoky quality (like aventus DNA) which makes it a very well executed designer release, by designer I mean a fragrance with great versatility, non-challenging, and innofensive (while still retaining very good performance. Adding to that, there’s a fruity quality which is reminiscent to millisime imperial, just think of the fruitiness in that, but with no sweetness, kind of like just the skin of the fruit or something like that. With all of these qualities to the fragrance, I think it’s a great choice, which easily competes with things like bleu de chanel, sauvage, and other fragrances in that ballpark, and with the pricing of this thing at discounters (very low) I think this is an amazing choice for a well rounded, versatile fragrance with good depth and good quality.

I just did a blind test with wife and daughter - comparing this directly against BdC EDP. Both preferred BdC, which I think is to be expected at their respective price points. But neither one disliked Ultra Blue, neither one thought it smelled cheap or unpleasant. I heard from them that Ultra Blue is "rounder", and that there was something slightly fruity. They both called it blue. They both thought there was some other scent that they couldn't place. I suggested patchouli, "eh...". I suggested leather, "maybe..." I suggested chocolate, "I suppose I could see that..." Leather seemed to get the most agreement, but nobody was completely satisfied with that. The BdC was described as spicier. It also has fruit of course, but citrus as opposed to the redder fruit of the Ultra Blue. I finished off my 100 mL bottle of Ultra Blue today and I'm wondering if I will miss wearing it. I don't think I will. I feel as if it's significantly better than the 3.60 that it has on the site today. Especially for the price. It was more versatile than I expected, good in the office, good outdoors. Weirdly underappreciated.

Last year I asked for montblanc explorer for Christmas as my first proper fragrance. I was 17 at the time. I didn’t know a lot about fragrances back then and I heard it was a good choice. I ended up getting this fragrance instead. I have been wearing it to work a lot and received compliments from a couple of my female work mates. Which is why I’ve kept wearing it since. I really like the fragrance as it’s way more spicy than something like nautica voyage, which I have as well, but remains a very fresh and aquatic scent. I believe this fragrance can definitely be worn all year round, in fact I got the compliments primarily in the colder weather. Although, I personally would opt for a less spicy scent in summer. Understandably I will forever hold onto this fragrance as I received compliments while wearing it. I understand why people may not like this fragrance in terms of expectation. But I think it is great for someone my age who wants a fresh scent for the day.

Underated asf Was so surprised that this had a 3.4 out of 5 This is a nice fresh marine/citrus smell with a salty note that I definitely picked up. I was in Myer and one of the fragrance clerks recommended this to me. I hadn't heard great things about this fragrance I was hesitant at first but my curiosity got the best of me. I'm glad it did. Don't judge this fragrance off the rating it's a actually very good and I was generally surprised how long this lasted. After I sprayed it I took a shower approximately 7 hours later with scent still being there. I could still smell it after my shower and I didn't try to avoid washing it off. I'm so glad I tried this Im definitely going to buy a bottle it's a great summer fragrance. Only downside it is not versatile. This is definitely a summer fragrance and not much more than that. Could use it in spring but this will definitely be best for summer. Scent 8/10 Performance 8.5/10 Versatility 7/10 Price 9/10 Overall 8/10

More green than blue; fresh, metallic and clean. Opens a bit sour; it's green, has a pine/juniper aroma. It's fresh, a little bit spicy and aromatic. Has a metallic edge a bit like some Creed fragrances. Smells a bit like "mountain air." (if that makes sense?) Has earthy notes followed by a clean musk. Woody base. Smells coniferous as it wafts in the air. There are very faint drifts of salty/marine notes as it becomes a skin scent. These did put me in mind of "Milliseme Imperial?" but it's not exactly the same. Love the bottle but the name/design are misleading IMO. I don't think it smells "blue." More masculine in scent, good for ages 18 - 50(ish.) Good all year but might be slightly more noticeable in the heat? More of a daytime scent. Performance is hard to gauge. Projection is good for at least the first hour. Lasts as a faint skin scent for quite a while (on my skin.) I think it's the best of the Explorer line. Would recommend trying it first though.

A disappointing and middling existence... is what I’ve been hearing about this release. Until I ended up with a sample. I now realise that’s literally only because the original Explorer was Aventus-lite and people expected another Creed-lite to follow. Personally, I probably would’ve enjoyed that also, even though I’m not a fan of Explorer, but this is pretty good! Unoriginal, sure, but certainly not unpleasant. At £36 for 100ml, what a steal for a pleasant, ultra-clean masculine aquatic that isn’t too sea salty for someone inexperienced in or not a fan of that genre of scent. Yeah, it’s light but that makes it perfect for those days you don’t really want to wear anything but still want to come off *fresh*. If Profondo is like an attractive man swimming in the Italian coast, this is like that same man going for a lap in a beach resort swimming pool. I wouldn't get this, but it would make a good gift for someone else.

Is this the red-headed step-child of the Explorer line? Based on reviews you'd think the inspiration comes from Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau Intense Pour Homme having a secret love child with Ralph Lauren Polo 67 EDT, but I think I get more Polo Blue with different fruits and more pepper. The opening is sharp bergamot, pink pepper, and exotic fruits (I don't really think Polo 67 here, but I sort of get it, just dialed back fruit). The heart is the marine accord coming from the Light Blue Eau Intense concept: salty, airy, and watery. It is also a little bit ambery. In the base I get peppery patchouli, light woods, and just a hint of leather. It is not nearly as salty as Issey Miyake Le Sel D'Issey but it goes in that direction, and is considerably peppier than what people might think. If you took Le Sel, Polo Blue, a splash of Polo 67, and a pepper shaker, you'd get Ultra Blue. Somehow it works.

Finally got my hands on this. Starts off with a citrusy/pink pepper opening. The pepper here is very nice because it gives the citrus some edge, but it's not abrasive at all. Then it moves into a salty/aquatic mid with hints of the original pepper. Dry down is a very clean, slightly spicy patchouli with a touch of woodiness. I get ZERO leather. Final thoughts: I actually really like it. Fresh, clean, pleasant, and mass appealing for sure. It's not gonna blow you away, and it is pretty light like others have mentioned, but it's good. Let's be honest; the original Explorer wasn't really that 'original' either. We all know it was inspired by a certain fragrance, so I wasn't expecting anything super original in the flanker. I think my lower expectations helped me enjoy it. Summer/Spring, safe, wearable, clean, good.

Perhaps it's nature's strange game, To mix the pleasant with the tame, In this fragrance, a tale is spun, Of the sea, and where it's from. So if by the coast you stand, With Montblanc Ultra Blue in hand, Close your eyes, take a deep breath, Urinal cake and sea, a curious depth.

This is arguably masterful at what it's trying to do (be a generic mass appealing fresh dumb reach.) It is handsome, grown shower gel masculine scent. It's refreshing to have an all rounder/fresh fragrance which isn't sweet nor overdosed with citrus or aquatics. Has a classic feel. Definitely a shower gel fragrance. Performs better than the original and has that similiar musky "mens cologne" drydown. At the price in discounters you really can't go wrong with it. I don't love it or anything but I got 100ml for £29 and it gets more compliments and positive feedback than many of my more expensive frags. I prefer it to most blues. Give it a try, it is the ultimate npc/normie frag which means everyone likes it. It is a very sensible scent.

I agree most with the urinal cake and seafoam review. I read another review elsewhere that said 'smells like expo cleaner.' My own take is that it's like a bar of Coast deodorant soap mixed with Windex. In other words, I do like it, but it has some very powerful ammonia and alcohol notes, and the rest is sort a soap and cleaner smell. It's actually very masculine, and I do enjoy it. I wouldn't recommend it because I think a lot of people are going to be put off by the 'cleaner' vibe. 3.5/5.0 is about right. I'm still glad I bought it. For a perfume that smells like an expo marker, you would expect the projection and longevity to be better, but it's only about average. I know I sound like I'm coming down hard, but I do like it.

This first thing I thought of when I smelled this? Acqua di Gio. I'm surprised more people haven't said this. I have the Acqua di Gio edp and that's what I compare it to, although I see people comparing it to Profondo which I don't have, so I can't comment on that one. I even did a side by side and it's pretty damn similar. This isn't a bad thing, and this would be a great, if not perfect, every day cologne. It smells good, it lasts, it's not over the top, nor is it offensive, a general crowd pleaser, and I believe this to be a compliment getter. For the price, I'd say go for it, unless you already have Acqua di Gio. Spring time, indoors, maybe on a walk outside, during the day, or summer nights, would suit this best.

Honestly I like this! It's not your typical Blue fragrance. I think the fruit and the ambergris are what take this in a different direction. It's one of those fragrances that you can just spray as much as you want throughout the day. It is a little musky but I like it. It has a slight soapy fresh feel to it as well. It has it's one uniqueness, it's own profile that makes it different from others like Polo or Nautica. I love Mont Blanc fragrances and I recommend this one if you want a more sharp and masculine Blue fragrance. The difference maker is those fruity notes up top that give this it's character. I enjoy this one as much as the original Explorer. Both are different though. It's good and I'm glad I bought it.
