Lapis Philosophorum

#1805 in my “Tour de Fragrance” This is a really unique scent. Dominated by the olibanum and myrrh of course, but set apart with a bevy of notes I rarely see. Truffle shows up in half dozen of the Tom Ford scents I’ve tried and in Carolina Herrera’s “Bad Boy Cobalt” which I ran out of last month. I have Carner Barcelona “Black Calamus”, the only calamus scent I’ve tried so far. But all-in-all you won’t find this mix of notes in any scent I’ve encountered. Not even close. Is it worth $240 a bottle to me to wear something absolutely no one will recognize? Yeah, I’m reaching that point. There was a time when I wore Dior “Sauvage", Calvin Klein “CK One”, Ralph Lauren “Polo Blue”, Azzaro “Wanted”, D&G “Light Blue” Chanel “BDC”, Versace “Eros." But as everyone else started wearing them all the women that interested me started mocking men that wore them, so I gave them all away. I like being asked, “What is that cologne you’re wearing” which will never happen if you’re wearing a best selling mass consumer product. That doesn’t mean you have to “go niche or go home.” There are thousands of excellent and affordable scents out there that have not reached the status of being a night club air freshener like Eros. Longevity on this scent is solid. Silage is moderate so safe business wear. Not gonna make your car pool mates roll down the windows. Interesting date wear. But not cheap. Really, if you have a few like this on the shelf for special occasions a 100ml bottle lasts a very long time. It’s a buy for me. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

Mine is a summer offer of LP Extrait de Parfum, 30ml bottle. This is one of a kind in my collection, a really earthy woody smell that opens up better in colder weather. The scene it paints is quite distinctive for me:" Warm, sunny summer forest and you are sitting on the warm mossy ground, leaning against a fallen tree that has been there for a while and started to get soft and mushy", - the slightly rotten and balmy smell of that tree, the mossy ground, the warmth of the forest - that is how LP extrait comes across. I do not think the sillage is much more than soft here, yet I still keep it only to myself, it is somehow very private and not to be worn to every or any occasion as it would feel out of place.

This is a worm stone, The red wine stone with Myrhh. Smokey and like flying to the full moon on a burgundy velvet carpet with gold stripes in November, and i can smell the warmth of the carpet and feel it's tenderness all the way to the space while hearing "A Whole New World" by by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle from a far away distance in an echo effect. It is quite magical to my senses, cozy, boozy, worm, and woolly. It has that smoothness dark line of smoke that captures all your senses and strikes you a bit for a moment then calms you in for the rest of your journey.

Lapis Philosophorum is really balsamic fragrance. It is a fragrance for someone that have seen everything, found understanding of himself and the world. Certaintly one of the most intriguing perfumes I have ever smelled.

سال 2013، سالی هست که این عطر و عطر دوم روسا از برند لیکویید ایمجینرز لانچ شدن. اگر که اختلافی در سال ارائه ی این دو عطر وجود داشت؛ تردیدی نیست که عطر جدید به تقلید فضایی مشروبی عطر قدیمی متهم میشد و باید گفت که با صرفنظر از یه سری تفاوتها؛ هر دو عطر تا یه جاهایی به شکل شگفت آوری مشابه عمل میکنن و فضایی صمغی-الکلی ارائه میدن. به همون دلیلی که از دوم روسا گریزونم؛ این عطر هم برام یه کار ناخوشایند بود؛ با این تفاوت که لاپیس فیلو؛ در بخش ماندگاری و پخش نسبت به همزاد خودش بهتر عمل میکنه و بعد از حدود 4 ساعت از آغاز نمایش که دوم رزا تقریبا ضعیف شده و داره محو میشه؛ لاپیس وارد فضایی جدید میشه تا از یکنواختی فرار کنه ولی این اتفاق برای من که اصلا از چنین فضاهایی خوشم نمیاد؛ یه فاجعست؛ هرچند خیلیا بخاطر این تغییر فضا و دوام بیشتر؛ عاشق لاپیس خواهند شد. به هر حال... لاپیس در فضایی درخشان، کمی صمغی و تاحدودی چرکین؛ تم الکلی خودش رو ارائه میکنه که در ابتدا یه حالت تمیز مثل بوی شامپوهای کلاسیک زرد تخم مرغی که ما خوب می شناسیمش؛ داره. این شامپوی شیک و نوستالژیک، حاشیه های چرکین و کمی دودی کار رو میشوره و با خودش می بره و اونچه که باقی می مونه یه فضای کاملا الکلی با پس زمینه ای خاکی هست. با گذشت چند ساعت از این نمایش، فضای الکلی قدرتمند وارد پایه ای صمغی-دودی با نت برجسته ی کندر میشه که حالا کمی خاکی تر هم میشه؛ اما همچنان تم مشروبی خودش رو حفظ کرده و هرچه به سمت پایان میره بر جذابیت صمغی، خاکی و دودی کار افزوده میشه. اما افسوس که سخت میشه چیزی رو احساس کرد. سنگ خرد و تعقل که هر فلزی رو طلا میکنه؛ در اینجا از یه تم مشروبی و آشنا خودش رو به فضایی صمغی و دودی وارد میکنه. پایانی خشک، خاکی، دودی و الکلی که بوی الکلی اون منو یاد جمله ی: جام آخر سهم خاک، میندازه. موندگاری بالای 7 ساعت و نشر متوسط این عطر میتونه یه خبر خوب باشه برای دوستداران دوم روسا. کامنت: م.ع (سایت لوکس بایر (با امکان تست سمپل

Lapis Philosophorum strikes as an interesting take on a lately *uninspring* theme. The main vibe here is the typical balmy incense already experienced in way too many compositions playing similar themes but the point of strength of this creation by Durbano, is to be found in the countless and quirky elements that enrich the bone structure. The fragrance opens with a winey accord and gas-like undertones that while sounding definitely OTT, at the same time they're so nicely played and orchestrated to give birth to a pretty novel and necessary twist to an otherwise *no-surprise* kind of composition. There's also an overall mentholated vibe which shows up since the early stages of the opening and remarks its presence throughout the late drydown, which is particularly interesting. As I previously said, the whole composition developes around a thick incense base that's pretty bombastic and tenacious if not a tad too *conventional*. With that said, I find Lapis Philosophorum to be overall quite successful and interesting enough to warrant a full positive rating. Good stuff. Rating: 7.5/10

The allure of trying something new is what drew me to Oliver Durbano. One thing is for certain, Lapis Philosopher's purpose isn't perfect. The same gripe I have for Diptyque Vetyverio is the the same gripe I have for Lapis. This stuff smells like alcohol, nail polish remover and the bottom of a woman's make up bag rolled into one. This is a dud on all accounts. I predict that this fragrance will die young. Well at least the corpse is beautiful.

boozy and incensey and smoky/spicy with solid sillage and long duration..really exotic with an Amouage kind of vibe!
