Jardins d'Armide

So... Jardins d'Armide... 🫠 After falling in love with Déjà Le Printemps, I excitedly ordered more samples of Oriza L. Legrand fragrances. I tried the first three: 1) Beautiful, 2) Sophisticated, 3) Evocative... Then I put this one to paper. Qu'est-ce que c'est??? It was a whiny musky note. Not terribly strong, but also not pleasant. It was so unfortunate and I was ready to write a very disappointed review. Then I let it sit on the paper strip and tested some other fragrances and returned to it later. QUE BELLE!!! It had (almost) completely transformed! This has a very beautiful effervescent quality to it, along with a sweetness that reminds me of photorealistic candy, like pastilles or SweeTarts. Yes, there is definitely rose, violet, marigold: But the best quality rose, violet, and marigold I have ever smelled! Gorgeous! The opening has long been forgiven, and this is definitely a masterpiece! I never thought I would love a fragrance so floral as this one, but she's a beauty! She's one in a million girls! Don't fall in love 😉 Perfect 10/10.

I do love cosmetic powder/rice powder scents. They’re my retro guilty pleasure. This one is rose heavy on me, with the violet/Orris playing supporting roles. The opening is a bit harsh and a little bitter, but that’s actually grown on me quite a bit. Once it settles the purple and red flowers are still vibrant but in softer focus,.It’s powdery, but not talcy baby powder. I guess I could compare it to ELDO Putain de Palaces and Maria Candida Gentile Burlesque. The balance of powder/floral elements are different for each one, but they’re the same idea though this calls to mind a Versailles palace as opposed to a one night stand in a hotel or the Moulin Rouge. I used to love the ELDO until I tried Burlesque, which smelled like better quality materials and more polished and filled-in in comparison. The Oriza may have knocked Burlesque off it’s pedestal, though. I’m hankering for a bottle. One of these days...

My experience with it doesn't quite match the scent pyramid. From top to bottom I mostly smell a powdery mix of violet and rose with something that smells like incense--not honey like I hoped--but frankincense or something churchy. Carnation provides an old smell, like dust that has accumulated on books that nobody has touched for a hundred years. I have been sampling a lot of perfumes lately that all happen to smell like churches. This smells more like a chapel, a melancholy one, where services are held regularly although hardly anyone ever attends. The chapel is hundreds of years old, made of cold stone, like the cathedrals of Europe. Colored light streams in through stained glass windows. The scent of flowers lingers in the air, flowers that are beginning to wither in their vases. They are changed every Sunday morning. Today is Saturday. Sillage is minimal. Longevity is a solid 12 hours or more.

This is my favorite Oriza L. Legrand perfume I’ve tried so far. It smells of very powdery, honeyed florals, mainly rose and violet. This is sweeter than I expected, and at first I thought it might be too sweet for my taste, but I’ve since fallen in love with it. Jardins d’Armide smells incredibly romantic! It’s so soft (texture, not intensity), sweet, and powdery. The sweet honey base is a bit chalky, even screechy, but it’s what makes this so noticeably vintage – no warm, generic, ambroxan-y base to be found here. Sillage is moderate, and longevity is 6-ish hours. This perfume always makes me feel so pretty! I’m currently on a hunt for the perfect powdery fragrance, and this is a strong contender. I might have to get a bottle of this, we’ll see... EDIT: Found my perfect powdery scent in Teint de Neige, but I’d still love to add a full bottle of this to my collection.

Very sexy grandma perfume - starts with a very strong parma violets smell, like a violet-scented powder puff, which smells delicious but doesn't necessarily smell like a great perfume. It made me wonder if floral perfumes with powdery undertones could ever truly be in vogue again, the way fruity gourmands with ambery notes are in vogue right now. I liked the whimsy of that first moment though, and I kind of went about my day, occasionally getting a whiff of the parma violet scent. Then after a period of not really noticing it, I went to smell my wrist and found it had dried down to a really beautiful honey scent - it becomes so intimate and sexy, I was totally surprised at how much I like it. It makes me think of porcelain dolls, powder rooms, the old style jelly candies that are covered in flour. It's a shy yet whimsical scent with an underlying sexiness.

Introduction of violet powderiness which I was a bit wary of but once it settles the rose, almond and the tonka sweeten and warm it up. The sweetness rounds and enhances the orris and iris that are quite evident. I really thought I would not like this but I really love it after powderiness wains quite quickly (thankfully). I realise why I like it so much now! It smells just like F Malle Iris Poudre. I guess I shouldnt be surprised considering the notes in this. It even lasts a lot longer than Iris Poudre on me. Im definitely getting an fb. I dont care if I smell like an old lady lol! I LOVE IT! Oh, I have to say that the sample box I received was gorgeous and beautifully wrapped in pale peach tissue paper. The box is soft duck egg blue with an apricot coloured satin ribbon wrapped around it with the bow on the front. It made my day!

Jardins d’Armide might be an even bigger powder bomb than Shalimar or Habanita — but of a completely different flavor. i’m becoming a sucker for powdery perfumes, me: so soft, such comfort. this one in particular showed me that even roses are not a problem when they come in powder form. this is a Rococo dream of Marie-Antoinette in her boudoir. it’s like being shoved face-first into the color palette of Sofia Coppola’s anachronistic pink dream of pre-revolutionary Versailles. enough pink powdered roses and tart violet candies to choke all your aunties, with a splash of amaretto on the side. the morning-after vibe is lingering powder, sweet grass, soft musk, and incense. musical accompaniment: “Your Brilliant Flowers” by Kaito, particularly the beatless version illustration: film stills from Marie Antoinette

My experience with this one has been rather opposite to what others have described. I found the Chypre Mousse to be the most difficult to appreciate and this one the most accessible. I do NOT get the heavy powder that some do, there is a nice light soft powder to it for me that keeps it rather feminine. The florals are very well combined and I don't really discern one over the other, just a beautiful blend. Thankfully I am not picking up much carnation not the heavy incense that some have mentioned. This is one you should spray lightly and give your brain a day to 'learn' it for it is something rather unique, then spray again a day or two later and you'll be surprised how much more you'll be able to appreciate it as a whole. Definitely fb for me, a very compelling sophisticated fragrance.

I'm a lover of any fragrance which makes you feel like a Belle Époque fancy lady, going out for a ball after powdering her skin generously to acheive the porcelain skin that was so fashionable at the time. Jardins d'Armide is exactly that. To put it simply, to me it smells a beautiful dried bouquet of flowers with plenty of powder on top. And I mean this in the most flattering way possible. It's elegance from an other time. It reminds me of the Bienaimé fragrances, but a bit sharper and not as sweet. Overall, once again a beautiful fragrance by Oriza Legrand. I'm almost ashamed to say that I own 6 of their beautiful juices but I've yet to find a house that brings back so many gorgeous retro scents for a decent price tag (perhaps Bienaimé?).

I love this, and it will be my next FB purchase. I am wearing a fresh sample just to make sure it has not been changed since I received a small decant several years ago. At that time it was impossible to find in the U.S., but now I have a local source! One me it is a dream of soft florals, honey, musk, and warm, dreamy almond, so lovely. Trying this one on a scent strip gives no hint of the wonder it becomes on skin, so be sure to give it a good wear before deciding. The almond is not candy-sweet like L'Artisan's Jour de Fete, nor is it an amaretto-like liqueur. It is sheer, subtle and perfectly judged to go with the floral notes without overpowering them. In fact, I think men would also enjoy wearing this if they like an almond note.

This is a gorgeous “now” perfume that feels classical in every sense. The powdery iris, guided by tonka and musk, is the overarching first impression. As it opens for a few moments, the orange blossom makes itself known with honey and almond trailing behind. Sweet and powdery, but not at all cloying. None of the other florals can be individually picked out, but blend beautiful. Every time I think I pin it down as a floral, I hesitate because it is so very complex, almost as if it has angles and one moment you can appreciate the orange blossom, and the next it’s a subdued, honeyed gourmand. I don’t think this is an everyday scent for me, but it’s lovely for special occasion use—I just can’t for the life of me decide what sort!

Beautiful powdery conceptual garden. What makes it special, to me at least, is the sugary scent of candied violets, I think it infuses the experience with such romantic elegance and grace. After the powder cloud settles, flowers emerge yet none of them have that vegetal feel, none of them are fresh, it feels like a photographic moment of a private garden like a boudoir, a powdered bosom, cascading curls and silk ribbons, the bowl of candied violets on a small table. Colors are vibrant pastels, pink and purple hues. It is vintage, of course, but it also has such presence, such beauty. One of my favorites from Oriza, gorgeous now in early spring.

I LOVE the aesthetics of this one. Powder, violets, slight sweetness; it smells to me more like expensive cream than lipstick/makeup. Stunning scent with a vintage vibe, but I wouldn't say it smells very dated to my nose (though it depends on what you're used to; ofc, it's not similar at all to modern sweet-flowery-gourmand scents). I'm not sure I need a FB (though it's gorgeous), but I will definitely use up my 5 ml decant when it's a bit colder outside. Also, Angel's Dust is one of my faves, and I do not find it similar - Angel's Dust is much more lipstick-y and iris-y. Here, violets take the main stage.

Jardins d’Armide by Oriza L. Legrand is another powder bomb, and I absolutely love it! It’s like stepping into a vintage dream with that classic, powdery richness. The scent is elegant, soft, and a little old-school in the best way possible. It’s not just a powdery fragrance; it has a depth and complexity that makes it feel timeless. There’s something so comforting and luxurious about it, like a vintage perfume you’d find in an old Parisian boutique. It’s definitely for anyone who loves that classic, powdery vibe.

An historic, rose-centric "amber floral," Jardins d'Armide was created in 1909. Interestingly, Fragrantica members have voted orange blossom as its least-detectable note, but I find it as prominent as the rose note and that it is the authentic fragrance of orange groves in full bloom. Dusty flowers on the trees exhale a gentle, sweet earthiness, captured in this perfume and enhanced by tonka beans and almonds—all enveloped in a powdery cloud.✿ Scent family: Amber Floral Longevity on me: long-lasting

Love at first sniff. This is stunning. Sweet without being sickly and powdery without being too choking. The floral notes come together beautifully and form this wonderfully transportive fragrance. I’m so glad this lived up to my expectations. After trying my sample a few times I know I’ll end up with a full bottle. It’s evocative of a different time but isn’t at all dated in my opinion. Hopefully the rest of the samples I’ve ordered from Oriza L. Legrand are as fantastic as this one!

I will preface my review by saying that I love this brand as a whole. Everything is insanely good,superb quality and has that retro vintage feeling that I adore in perfume. This one is no exception. Jd'A is a perfect powdery floral. Nothing more and nothing less, which is not a small feature in a world of endless new brands and launches. Plush,fluffy and so,so elegant from top to bottom anytime anywhere. Lasts for ages both on skin and clothes and wears as light as a feather.

Not my genre at all, but I can’t deny that this is well executed. Cloudy, soft floral that makes you think of elegant Mucha ladies walking through a sunny rose garden. Satin and chiffon in olfactory form. Very light, airy, sweet like powdered candy but also green and tart. I could've sworn this had star anise in it. With no warmth or vanillic elements to speak of, it makes for a purely floral soapy accord that’s extra delicate and almost botanical.

Oh how I love this! I find this to be utterly pretty, ethereal, sparkly and powdery! Notes of violet, roses, iris and frankincense blended so well. I cannot help but link it to fairy dust, incense and confectionary. I love it and on my skin its sweet and sparkly. It reminds me of my childhood, Pink Musk Mastic Lollies..and incense.

I had this beautiful potion since it was released and I just recently opened my bottle of Guet Apens from Guerlain and they smell quite similar! A field of violet, iris and carnation with honeyed musk. 💜🌟💙
