Jardin de Grasse

Jardin de Grasse was launched in 2021 and, up til now, is the only fragrance marketed as unisex by the brand. According to the Creative Director of the brand, Pierre Aulas, it was essential to have a French cologne within O.U.i's fragrance line since it is such an emblematic product of world perfumery. So, together with Olivier Cresp, they decided to give life to a fragrance that brings notes of neroli and Italian bergamot, followed by a body of pink pepper, Tunisian orange blossom, and petitgrain, on a base of sandalwood, musk, and labdanum. Olivier reveals that he decided not to use lemon, as this note sometimes results in a cheap smell. That's why the bergamot is of Italian origin, and he required natural raw materials, because “a quality cologne is not made using synthetic ingredients,” he said. On the skin, Jardin de Grasse is pure delight. Have you ever tried a fragrance that, despite not being gourmand, activated your taste buds? Well, that's what happens here, through a juicy sensation that invades other senses and gives a strange idea of freshness, as if it were an iced and citrus tea. It is not innovative and, truth be told, this was never the company's intention, since the goal was to pay tribute to traditional colognes, focusing on a country with a warm climate and easy acceptance. However, the result is not generic, as the classic colognes usually bring higher doses of petitgrain, whose aroma is sour. Jardin de Grasse, in turn, praises neroli and orange blossom, which end up generating a more luminous and fruity effect. Another feature worth mentioning is that many of the most classic colognes evolve towards a soapy effect, typical of a time when bathing was not part of the hygiene ritual, and the smell of an elegant soap was always welcome. In Jardin de Grasse, the result does not evolve towards the citrus-aromatic, which was made to please the men of the court, but towards the citrus-floral, which tends to be more pleasant for the female audience, expanding the target audience. To reinforce the durability, the perfumer used high doses of musk and combined it with labdanum, exploring its ambery facets, instead of the ones that pull for the leathery scent. And although it is sold as French Cologne, this fragrance has an Eau de Parfum concentration. The performance is quite satisfactory on my skin and the presentation of the product is very pleasant. The box has golden applications, and the volume (115ml) turns out to be the best cost-benefit of the brand. But it sins for not containing an internal protection cartridge, present in the other perfumes of the brand. Furthermore, I cannot end this analysis without making a more critical observation. As much as everything fits with storytelling, making us relive the ritual of freshness of classic colognes, the world has evolved, and the fragrance industry has evolved with it. It is contradictory to see that the same industry that advises not to rub your wrists, after spraying on the skin, considers it acceptable to bring a product with a screw cap, without offering a second option, as is the case of Cologne (Mugler), CK One and CK Be lines (Calvin Klein) or Serge Lutens' perfumes, all of which are older. Apart from that, Jardin de Grasse deserves a lot of praise and promises to be the signature scent of many Brazilians.

Comprei o creme de mãos, quando senti o cheiro imediatamente encomendei o perfume, estou aguardando chegar. O creme de mãos me lembrou o Nina Ricci Rose. Cheiro maravilhoso, não achei tão cítrico.

Very similar to Neroli Portofino by Tom Ford but way affordable. Great performance and great quality of raw materials here, undeniable. If I liked neroli this much (yes, this is pretty much neroli) I would rather get this than Tom Ford's. This is a cologne style construction although it's an eau de parfum, very functional and unissex fragrance. Wouldn't wear it because of neroli but it's really good quality overall.

Leans towards female. It is a very floral fragrance. Purchased for my girlfriend.
