Scapin 245

Scapin 245 is from 2021 and is part of the O.U.i fragrances aimed at the female audience. The creative concept revolves around a three-act comedy, created by Molière, called Les Fourberies de Scapin. The play was first performed on May 24, 1671, at the theater of the Palais Royal in Paris. Hence, the name next to the numeral 245. The inspiration, according to Nathalie Lorson, was the French woman who exudes confidence and elegance, and who attends a show at the Palais Royal in a beautiful and comfortable evening dress. The fragrance of Scapin 245 is classified as floral-oriental and brings top notes of bergamot and freesia, opening space for a floral bouquet of jasmine Sambac and gardenia, on a base of tonka bean and ambery woods. Where do I start? Well, much compared to the famous Good Girl (Carolina Herrera), the Scapin 245 has even been called Scarpin (classic women's shoe) in some video reviews. As much as mistakes happen, credibility goes down the drain at these times. And then, taking advantage of this hook, I saw a lot of comments like: “it's identical to Good Girl, only...” more floral, less sweet, without the coffee, etc. And I ask myself: Again? Identical is one thing, similar is another! It is not possible to generalize, because we live in the era of digital influence. Getting back to the point, Scapin 245 has a fresh output, but it's not exactly citrusy. Here, bergamot comes in as a support note for freesia, which brings spicy floral nuances. And almost immediately, the jasmine invades the environment with its indolic and sensual content, which receives a greater dose of sophistication, thanks to the presence of gardenia, a flower that always makes fragrances more refined. It doesn't take long for the sweeter side of Scapin 245 to appear. The tonka bean provides a great load of almondy sweetness and the ambery woods work as a mixture of sandalwood and amber. That's why the drying is so creamy. I think it's worth talking about my experience with the scent of lavender that reveals itself on the skin. And this comes from the mixture with the “L'Essence de Grasse”, which became an ingredient present in all the brand's creations, exploring the harvests of rose, sage, lavender, mimosa, and violet leaves, native to the south of France. Scapin 245 is not a perfume whose fragrance innovates, truth be told. And it has similarities with its Brazilian cousin Floratta Red (O Boticário), the latter being more sparkling and citrusy, thanks to the notes of orange and orange blossom, which make it a little more versatile and pleasant for daytime use. In terms of performance, Scapin 245 does not disappoint. And as much as it is more of the same, for many women, it is the type of fragrance considered as sensual by a large part of the male audience. A tribute to Escapism, with the savoir-vivre of the French.

I bought the sample kit with three fragrances, and I’m so glad I did not blindly buy the 50ml. The aldehydes and the extreme frugal sweetness make all three female fragrances unbearable, and unwearable. It smells cheap and lasts forever. A huge Brazilian cosmetic company (Boticario) is behind this brand, but they’re being sneaky about it and presenting it as a Brazilian perfumery niche brand. The olfactory direction is by Pierre Aulas, but the product itself is a complete disaster. Pretty bottle, though.

Good Girl opens more citrus-y, but the dry-down is quite similar. Scapin's projection is okay but it does not last.
